The Irish Potato Famine by History Nerds. (Audiobook read on hoopla app)
A interesting little book thst goes in depth on the subject of the Irish potato famine. The causes, the consequences, and the far reaching effects. I always thought I got a full picture on how bad this moment of history was. This book clearly showed me that I did not have a clue. Very heartbreaking and anger inducing book.
Well written and narrated, concise but didn’t feel it locked for detail. Grateful for the greater understanding of what my ancestors went through in their rural village in Ireland, that drove them to leave for Scotland in 1848. Sad that the hubris of government, then and now, so completely misses the human suffering often caused by policy rather than poor choices of people trying to scratch out a living.
Short, but thorough coverage. I realized going into it, I had zero knowledge of the Irish Potato Famine at all. Not at all how I pictured it. Very vivid imagery of first hand accounts. I liked how it went into details about the political and social background going on at the same time. Very interesting read.
A very good tour through the history of Irish Potato Famine and its impact on the people of Ireland, and immigration around the world. I found it fascinating.
