Dark Eagle IV: Scarab

Rate this book
An Empire's Fate Lies in the Shadows of an Ancient Land.

43 AD.

The mighty Roman Empire is stretched thin, its grip on its most vital province slipping. In Egypt, whispers of rebellion echo along the Nile. Roman legions, once feared and unstoppable, are plagued by desertions and mysterious deaths, many haunted by visions of gods and monsters. Supplies meant to sustain the empire falter, and pirates roam the Mediterranean, striking with uncanny precision.

As Rome teeters on the brink, the Occultum—Rome's shadowy and ruthless special forces—are sent into the heart of Egypt, a land where the past looms large and the line between myth and reality blurs.

In the face of fearsome enemies, forbidden love, and a web of deception that stretches across the Mediterranean to the Nile's sacred waters, the Occultum must confront not only the forces threatening the empire but also the fragile loyalties within their own ranks. Every step closer to the truth brings them deeper into a deadly conspiracy—and closer to an unimaginable threat hiding in the shadows of Egypt

This was another excellent read in the Dark Eagle series by K M Ashman, this time most of the action took place in Egypt, with just a few chapters focused on Britanica. The actual series is based on Romes use of undercover soldiers much like our special forces of today, the only other author I know who has written about this is the excellent series by Nick Brown, both series comes highly recommended.

Not as entertaining as I-III.

I love the plot of the Occultum adventures. This time, however the author overdid himself. Too much of misticism, cult, religion, hallucinations related to widespread drug use happening at the same time in Brittania and Egypt. Hard to believe and irritating. I hope that next books are better.

Occults

Very well written with exciting twist and turns! Almost 3 stories in one. Occults thrive on superstitions and fanatics. I look forward to reading the next book in this series of the Dark Eagle.

Editing errors

Nice sequel, but far too many editing errors through-out. Typos, missing words, and a coup.e of historical inaccuracies. Revision needed.

Brilliant

This series just gets better and better and the characters move through an ancient land with orders from Rome to do things that the armies cannot. Absolutely brilliant
