January 2, 2025Read this in one sitting on a quite January morning, first half of the book was a fascinating insight as to how most of the songs on this album were made.
In the last half of this book Mr. woods gives us some powerful and vulnerable insights behind the circumstances in his life that led to many songs on this album. Which give many of the songs in Hiding more depth for me.
The final pages left me with tears in my eyes, great read for anyone who is a fan of his work.

När man söker på billy woods blir det snabbt tydligt hur lite som faktiskt är känt om honom, något som kanske inte är så konstigt med tanke på att han konsekvent döljer sitt ansikte på fotografier och tycks värna starkt om sitt privatliv.
Med vetskapen om detta beställde jag denna bok (som mer påminner om ett magasin/tidning), skriven tillsammans med producenten Kenny Segal, med förväntan på en mer traditionell genomgång av deras collab-album Hiding Places (ett av mina absoluta favoritalbum) med analys och bakgrund av texterna.
I stället möttes jag av en lågmäld, mer berättande text som snarare fungerar som en inblick i billy woods liv och inre landskap under den period då albumet tog form. Det är oväntat rörande och skrivet på ett personligt och autentiskt sätt. Väldigt fint att få ta del av musiken på det här viset. Jag är inte så mycket av en ”textlyssnare” men läsningen har gjort mig mer nyfiken på innehållet i texterna till billys låtar.

Beautiful illustrations as usual by Musgraves, will appeal to people interested in Kenny's unique beat making process, and some rather intense anecdotes from woods which may recontextualize his lyrics.
