But Lizzie isn’t just a job.
She’s powerful, hunted, and unknowingly tied to a portal sealed by myth and magic. As secrets unravel and danger draws closer, Brody must choose between duty and desire.

Will she embrace the power within or risk losing everything?
A seductive romantasy of hidden powers, ancient bloodlines, and slow-burn desire. Perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Danielle L. Jensen, and Carissa Broadbent.
The Heir of Light and Shadows hooked me with the normalcy of Lizzie’s life at the start. Grad school, working at the tavern, a boyfriend whose jealousy keeps tightening the noose. The shift from mundane danger to supernatural threat is handled so well that the fae reveal is unsettling instead of flashy.
Brody’s role as protector kept me turning pages. His restraint and the simmering attraction under duty made the tension deliciously slow. I also loved the pendant and inheritance thread. Power waiting for its rightful owner added angst to Lizzie’s choices.
By the end, the stakes were personal and magical. I closed the book impatient to see how Lizzie grows into what she’s becoming and how the Shadow Fae world expands in the next installment.
Stella Jade's 'The Heir of Light and Shadows' is a high-stakes suspenseful romantsy that traces the story of unsuspecting grad student Lizzie Dugan as she finds herself at the center of a power struggle that's far more dangerous than she could ever imagine. The story is the just the kind of fast-paced, slow-burn, gripping plot that I love best, but all that is somehow secondary to its stunning array of (often flawed) characters. Jade's masterful art of dialogue and acute sense of character portrayal left me feeling (a bit too) attached to some of these characters--throwing me into a roller coaster of emotions all the way to the delicious cliffhanger of an ending, leaving me craving book two! Magical, emotional, and breathtaking, 'The Heir of Light and Shadows' is a definite 5 Stars for me.
This book took me on plenty of surprising twists and turns. I remember seeing the description of the book and being slightly confused by how a portal fantasy and mafia ties were going to meld together. The author definitely did it the right way. I was kept on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book, and even when my questions were answered, there were always more that popped up. I loved Lizzie as a character; she was strong and independent, but not so much that she couldn't accept help when she needed it. I am very curious to see where this story goes and can't wait to read the next book!
