4 3/4 stars, After reading Damaged and the Beast(which is calling for a re-read) I fell in love with Bijou Hunter and the characters of Ellsberg, and it's no secret that after I read Damaged and the Beast I hated Bailey. I wanted her to die a slow and painful death after she was humiliated through Ellsberg (yes I know I can hold a grudge in books) I honestly never though Ms. Hunter could make me not want Bailey gone I never dreamed in a million years that Bijou would make me like and dare I say love Bailey. and want to read a book about her *gasp* But Ms. Hunter started to prove me oh so wrong and do he impossible, Bijou Hunter did the unthinkable and made me like Bailey and then love Bailey and look forward to her in the books and then she made me ecstatic for Bailey's book and now I am all on the Bailey fawn bus.
Nick was always a no brainer for me he was sweet and then the more I got to know him through books the more I saw there was a lot we weren't seeing and when I heard he was Baileys hero I was on pins and needles to see how their story would play out. Bailey has had a good life more than a good life, everything Bailey wanted she got including a great family, With the help of friends and her brothers significant others Bailey has worked hard at becoming a better person who she likes and through this process Bailey has gained friendships that she never dreamed she would have. The only thing missing in Bailey's life is Nick.
Bailey was devastated when she realized Nick was into Farah so Bailey did what she does best and acted out, and even though Bailey has went through a lot of changes wanting Nick for her own will never change. Frustrated that Nick never seems to notice her Bailey makes herself known and loudly. Nick grew up completely different than Bailey so when he could leave Nick never looked back. Now fighting in the Thunderdome Nick is finally able to afford college and things he never had growing up but what wants most of all is Bailey. Even though Nick knew Bailey was too good for him Bailey has always been it for him so when Bailey puts herself out there and makes it obvious that she wants him Nick finally makes his move.
As Nick and Bailey start a relationship it isn't easy for Nick, the things done to him as a child have made having a relationship hard but Bailey is more stubborn than his past and she isn't willing to give him up no matter what. As Bailey and Nick begin to fall in love the past comes back in different forms to try and separate the two. Now Nick and Bailey will have to decide if they will fight for the one thing they each always wanted.
I loved this book it was such and easy read, I picked this book up and I was instantly taken back to Ellsberg. Bailey is once again hilarious in this book I literally laughed on the first page and continued laughing through out this book. I also loved seeing Bailey's growth in this book she isn't just a shallow rich girl she loves Nick and her family and friends and she loves them all deeply. Like I said earlier Nick was easy for me I loved him from the beginning and knew I would just fall more in love when I read his book but Nick wasn't just easy he suffered a lot growing up and that shaped him and made him who he was. There is so much to Nick that we get to see in this book and my heart broke for him and all that he went through but we also( and maybe the best part) get to see Nick push past his upbringing so that he could be the man Bailey deserved and the man he deserved.
We get to see all the great characters from the past books and we get great follow ups on them all as well. I must say that the epilogues were fantastic in this book, they weren't super long but they were written so well that I never felt like we were missing anything they were the perfect ending to a great book and even better love story . I cried while reading them and it just made me even more sad to have to finish this book. Bijou Hunter is a great author who can not only make me cry but make me laugh, and fall in love, and also make me feel like the charters she has created are real people that I know and love.
This is one of those series that never can quite leave your thoughts. Though I read A LOT this is one of those series that I find myself either thinking about or check on to see when the next book comes out( fine some might call it stalking) or even wanting to re-read. Now I just have to wait for more from this series (oh the struggles I have to endure). I can't wait for the rest of this series. We get a great peak at the next characters and it just made me that much more excited for the next book.
**Thank you Bijou Hunter for this book to review**
So I still think Bailey has the IQ of a Skittle... I still think she's the most narcissistic, self absorbed, annoying person in this series. But she's also very caring... In her own special way. Thank God, Nick found her temper tantrums cute. Thank the Lord, Nick thinks Bailey's perfect, 'cause honestly? No one else would.
With that being said, Bailey is funny as hell! Following her thought process is pure entertainment! While she grew on me slowly in the previous two books, she became almost likeable in this one. Oddly enough... Because let's face it, she is a first class bitch. And she hasn't really changed that much!
Nick was not my favourite character, but he was the perfect fit for Bailey's craziness. He has a lot of demons that have tainted how he views himself. I was surprised to see that Bailey was the one to take a deep breath and handle the situation in a mature way. She showed him understanding and patience in situations where the 'old' Bailey would have gone apeshit.
The epilogue was almost the best thing about this book. We get two epilogues, Nick and Bailey's, and the HEA is nicely wrapped.
Although I enjoyed Bijou Hunters Damaged series, it’s taken me a long time to get around to reading Damaged and the Dragon. Bailey Johansson is probably one of the most immature, self-centered and annoying characters I have ever read. A little bit of her goes a long way so I had a hard time imagining myself enjoying a book with her as the heroine. After a Damaged reread binge, I decided to bite the bullet, started Bailey’s book and ended up actually liking it.
With Nick and Cooper’s past issues surrounding Farah, plus the way Bailey treated everyone, including Nick, in the beginning I had a hard time seeing the attraction and the subsequent connection. As the book progressed and the relationship started getting on more solid ground, it was easier to believe in them as a couple.
This series has always been about a heroine who has been damaged and the serious alphaholes who make it their goal in life to heal their women. Although Bailey is needy, annoying, and has self-esteem issues, here it’s Nick who has suffered the damage and it falls on Bailey to get her head out of her ass enough to fix him. I would have never imagined she could find it in herself to do this, but she stepped up… well in her own way. I can’t say she’ll ever make it anywhere near one of my top ten lists as far as heroines go, but she did redeem herself.
As for Nick, his history broke my heart. Because of his past no matter how badass in the fighting ring he was or how his actions with others spoke to him being a good person down to his soul, in his mind he was trash and irreparably damaged.
In previous books, the Johansson family has always had this goofy relationship going on. Although endlessly picking at each other and squabbling, underneath they are unbelievably tight and loyal to each other. It was especially heartwarming how they saw through Nick’s outward appearance to the goodness that was underneath it. Every single one of them wanted that for Bailey, and they each in their own way went about getting it for her, in the end not just because they loved their crazy-assed sister, but because they wanted it for Nick too.
Was this my favorite Damaged book… No, but it is one I ended up enjoying and can see myself re-reading when I feel another Damaged binge coming on. The loyalty and the love between the Johansson family and crew are showcased here and worthy of a re-read or two down the road.
When this series started I didn't like Bailey one bit. By the time this book started though I liked her a bit more. I still felt she was a spoiled, needy brat most of the time but it was working better for her. Nick has lived a rough life and has a lot to work through. This book showed so much growth by both characters. Bailey was able to truly love someone and put them first. Nick loved Bailey for things that drove most others crazy. They fit. Their love wasn't as epic for me as the others but it was still a great read. I just didn't feel their love quite as much. The epilogue was amazing as always allowing the reader to not only see into the future of the MCs but also into the future of past characters. This series will be a definite reread for me.
I've been completely hooked on these books since I read Damaged and the Beast and with the exception of Gator, not part of this series I know but since I've liked everything else by this author I thought I'd give it a go but I just couldn't finish it no matter how many times I tried but despite Gator I've loved everything else Bijou has written. I have to say that while reading Beast I really, really disliked Bailey to the point where I didn't think anything would change my opinion of her, but the change started in Knight and it wasn't long before I realised that not only did I like Bailey but she was actually my favourite character, Nick, well Nick was always so easy to like so with my new love for Bailey and easy to love Nick I was really looking forward to this book, more so I think than any of the others, well maybe with the exception of Knight. Dragon started well but if I'm being honest, and there's no point in writing a review if I'm not going to be I felt early on that it was going to be a disappointment, it seemed to lack something, now it could be that I'd built up my expectations or maybe I expected too much but although I could appreciate the humour and relationships I'd wanted more. Now Beast and Knight were brilliant but difficult to read in places since Farrah and Tawny had suffered so much and we experienced it with them, the following books although still brilliant were softer, easier reads. Dragon for me struggled early on, or should I say I struggled with it but then I don't know what happened about half way in everything just sort of fit and I found myself loving it, which suggests the problem was with me. I think I realised that this book didn't need any extra drama, that sounds wrong because this book is not all hearts and flowers Nick has a ton of baggage which he struggles with throughout the book but it's strength was the personalities and relationships and once I'd come to terms with that it worked. it's strength is he personalities and relationships and once I'd come to terms with that it worked. Bailey is just so damn funny she's self assured and confident at the same time as being insecure and needy and I just love her, and Sawyer, I really love Sawyer I just hope Bijou sticks with these books long enough for Sawyer to get hers because that would be one interesting book. So after a slow start which I'm willing to admit could be my fault I loved this book, I read it in one go if you count me reading it and falling asleep while doing so then finishing it off as soon as I woke this morning. So now I'm ready for Dylan and Winona's book which if it goes according to plan should be out soon and then Harlow and Saints in July, fingers crossed.
I still really liked this book, but it wasn't as good as the rest. I kept waiting for the big shootout or kidnapping at the end...and it didn't happen. Still a great because it was Nick's book, but I hope the next one has more action.
There is really no accounting for taste because I loved Bailey fucking Johansson! She's shallow and obnoxious and insecure even if she grew up as a princess. She was also unapologetic of her sexuality.
This is the fifth of a series of connected books. You need to read the previous books to understand the history and personality of the characters, but you can probably understand the story without them. There is no cliffhanger.
Bailey is the club princess. She is spoilt, demanding, insecure and has a temper. She’s also loyal and loving. She’s always struggled to find her place in her family and is insanely jealous of the crew that have found their partners whilst she still waits for love. She has a history of men using her for sex and then dumping her immediately which makes her clingy and perpetuates the cycle. Since meeting Farah and Tawny she’s been trying to be less volatile and catty. She’s liked Nick for months but never done anything about it.
We met Nick in the first book of the series and he’s popped up a few times in passing in the following books. Cooper, Bailey’s brother beat him up in the first book because he thought that he liked Farah. He put him in hospital but apologised and paid for the rest of the school year for him. After that Nick decided to earn some money in Tucker’s ‘Thunderdome’ fight club. He can take a beating and keep going long after everyone else is done. He’s been longing for Bailey ever since he met her but never had the courage to do anything about it.
Eventually, Bailey gets sick of waiting for Nick to make a move and she makes one. In this book, we see Nick for who he really is. He’s not just a nice guy who likes to help people and be a teacher, he’s also incredibly damaged by a terrible childhood. It makes him pull away from people and put up walls. Bailey hates when people pull away from her but she’s nothing if not determined.
I like how we see the real Bailey and the real Nick in this book and how they work through their problems. There is plenty of well meaning advice thrown around but eventually, there is only the two of them working things out. It’s really nice watching them both grow through working together and helping each other through the things they find difficult. They don’t let their issues get the better of them despite their instincts.
This book, like all the others, has an ensemble cast. It’s nice seeing other characters from previous books and seeing how their lives with their loved ones work out and how their experiences let them help others. Bailey watching how her friends’ issues made things difficult for them in their relationships helps Bailey see why Nick reacts the way he does to things and helps her be patient. Before meeting these friends, she probably wouldn’t have handled his issues at all.
Criminals or not, I really like the Johansson clan. I also like that Nick doesn’t want to be a part of the family business and no one tries to talk him out of it. It's nice that Bailey doesn’t want to be part of the criminal stuff either but she still finds a way to help her family. The family is warm, loving and loyal but to outsiders that hurt their people they are ruthless and they respect Nick because he’s a bit the same, but maybe not quite as extreme. I’m so pleased there are still plenty of books to read by this author. It’s always nice when you discover an author with a huge back catalogue!
This is my ZON Review..... This is A FREGGING Amazing Series... that has everything you want to read in a Great book , It makes you chuckle... that's Bailey so straight up to the point it's hilarious , & with all of Nicks hidden insecurities with Bailey things .... Her drama that he loves ...just rolled off of him when it was to do with her... another great love story , Hot .. yes .. lots of tuff .. ie : how do you feel about your father disappearing .. for good !! ... funny.. and Saywer God she's an evil genius the things that come out of her mouth.. a hoot..Always LOV reading this Author she writes fantastically ... So Get One Clicking People for the AWESOME READ you won't want to miss, this Book or Series!!! :-)
I've been hooked on this series from the beginning and I was one of the few who loved Bailey from the beginning. In all her loud, crass, insecure, potty mouthed behavior she is my favorite Bijou heroine. I loved this book although unfortunately not as much as Outlaw, which I hate because Bailey is my favorite. I just feel like it wasn't as complex as the others. But I really really like the dual pov and the dual pov epilogues. I'm super excited for Dylan and Winona and am going to be DEVASTATED when this series ends.
You have a hero or that I felt was a bit spoiled and didn’t really grow out of it. She acted this way from high school to college and expected to have an adult relationship....no. Just doesn’t work. With her lack of maturity she is insecure and needs to be reassured.
The hero is suffering from what I believe is PTSD from his childhood. I am surprised that it doesn’t come up, really, and how he should work through the trauma that he suffered.
I loved Nick!! He was a great hero!! However I had not liked Bailey in previous books and really didn’t care for her much now. They end up clicking as a couple I guess but I was mainly annoyed by her drama. I look forward to Winnie and Harlow’s books. I love Bijou books and enjoy this series. Bailey is just not my cup of tea.
I really enjoyed Bailey and Nick's story. It was full of faughs and was truly a fun read. Nick was a damaged good guy that fell in love with smartass Bailey who had insecurities about herself. I love Sawyer she was one of the funniest characters in the story. Truly a great series.
Omg I can’t get enough of these books. They get better and better. This author is harlious. while she dose give them the love needed and a HEA she also give the characters a past that’s hard to overcome without love
Love this series Love this family Loved Bailey and Nick's broken heartstopping emotional love story Gripping Ready for more Gimme Bullfrog with Winnie and Dylan
Bravo! I have been waiting for Bailey’s story for so long. I must be one of the few readers that loved Bailey F*ucking Johansson. She has the best dialogue with Sawyer and the rest of the crew. I usually highlight most of the parts with Bailey in the other books but I must have highlighter the entire Damaged and the Dragon (DoD). I know she can be a spoiled brat and rude, but it’s just so funny and she is just so real. I mean what other character you know would respond to Lark’s heartfelt advice “Be true to myself” with Bailey’s “You know, as is I was living in a Disney movie” or “So the cornerstone to your epic love is that you served him like a slave and he made you laugh? I feel like I’m being punked. I would have never guess Bailey would be the one to rescue a broken Nick. She was just so straight forward and if she had something on her mind that she needed an answer too, she just spit it right out i.e. Was I second to Farah. I totally believed she would hire an assistant and saw it as training herself on how to manage people. I mean really who would do that. The Damaged serious is one of the few biker books that all of the biker culture is second to the reader learning about the actual character. I mean Reaper’s is mention only at the right time to provide the right support to a story line i.e. Kirk asking Nick if he wanted his dad to disappear. I’m very pleased and happy about this book. It Bijou has time, I can’t wait for Sawyer’s story. Well we have some years to wait but it would be so epic. She is a combination of Bailey and Cooper. I mean how many kids do you know would tell someone “Someone hurt you, Want me to have them killed” . She is an old lady in waiting!
**I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review**
Wow!! I believe I have found my book boyfriend of the series!! I loved Nick!!! And in an amazing turn of events, I actually liked Bailey as well. Throughout the series, Bailey F'ing Johansson has been the mean, bossy, big mouth, rude, princess of Ellsburg. Her sarcasm and rudeness had caused me to hate her! Somehow, Bijou Hunter has turned that around and I now understand, why Bailey acts the way she does. In Damaged and the Dragon, Bailey falls in love and we are able to see how she lets down her guard, learns to trust her man and let go of her issues. Nick...Nick is super sweet, sensitive, patient, hot, sexy... I have actually liked Nick since the beginning of the series and I loved him even more in this book. He is dealing with his own insecurities and fears and even though he has liked Bailey for a long time, he didn't think he was good enough for her.
I loved the relationship between these two. I loved that they were both able to overcome their obstacles to be together. And of course, I loved the humor!!
Nick: "If Bailey wants to go, we'll go. I'm not choosing for her." Cooper: "You can't let her boss you around, man. She'll own your balls." Nick: "She already owns them. At this point, we're just negotiating visitation rights."
It was great catching up with Cooper and Farah!!! I loved Kirk and Jodi, Bailey's parents...and Sawyer...her little mouth drove me a little crazy as usual but glad to see that she toned it down a bit! Can't wait for the next book in the series!
I adored this book. I've enjoyed watching Bailey come into her own over the last four books, but in this one, she gets her guy and really grows up. Nick is such a sweetie, and it was interesting to hear about his childhood and see into his head during his growing relationship with Bailey, interesting and heartbreaking. But, it was heart-melting to see him open up to Bailey, to open his heart to the possibility of a real and caring family. I very highly recommend. #BaileyAndNick #Dragon #DeputyDickhead #CageFights #Thunderstorms #Family #Bacon #Salvation #Dreams
“I like the carrot cake,” Maddy announced and Tucker nodded. “Fucking hillbillies,” I muttered. “We really do love our carrot cake.” -Maddy and Bailey
“If Bailey wants to go, we’ll go. I’m not choosing for her.” “You can’t let her boss you around, man. She’ll own your balls.” “She already owns them. At this point, we’re just negotiating visitation rights.” Cooper grinned. -Nick & Cooper
“I see you,” I whispered in his ear. “You’re mine in every way and nothing will make me let go.” -Bailey to Nick
Cupping her face, I brushed her lips with my thumb. “You’re medicine for my soul, Bailey. Never forget that.” Her naughty gaze shifted into something softer. “Thank you for being brave enough to love me.” Despite her earnest expression, I laughed. “Like I had a choice.” -Nick and Bailey
The first time I saw Bailey, I just wanted her to know I existed. In the end, I could only survive when she held my heart in her hands. Bailey Fucking Johansson was my salvation. -Nick's thoughts about Bailey
TITLE~ Damaged and the Dragon (Damaged #5) AUTHOR~ Bijou Hunter GENRE~ New Adult-Contemporary-Romance PUBLISHED~ May 20th 2014 PURCHASED/COST~ Amazon/$2.99 MY RATING~ 5/5
MY THOUGHTS~
I chose to purchase and read this book because I absolutely LOVE the series! Damaged and the Dragon was a great read. I enjoyed it from front to back. The entire Damaged series has been awesome, each in their own way. This 5th book in the Damaged series was both comical and deep at the same time. Bijou Hunter is an amazing writer and always manages to hook me straight from the beginning of her books. I couldn't put this one down any more than I could the ones before it. I just love her writing style. This book featured a lot of self-discovery and realizing what's important in life. All of the characters, including those from previous books in the Damaged series, seemed to have matured a bit in their own ways while still being true to their original personalities. I feel as if I know them all personally. Bijou Hunter has an incredible way with her character development. I look forward to reading more of this author's work, for sure.
This is the story of Bailey and Nick. Bailey sees all her friends and family happy and in love and she's envious of that. Let's face it, isn't that what we all want? Of course we do. And Bailey Fucking Johansson is no exception. We really see what Bailey is made of. I was actually surprised to know that Bailey is vulnerable. What you see on the outside is partly a facade. Nick on the other hand, he's been in love with Bailey since he first laid eyes on her. He's had a very rough childhood & he doesn't want his dirty past to taint the goodness that is Bailey. While I was reading this story I thought, "It's the Dragon who is damaged." Bailey loves Nick so much that she waits it out for him to come through, even though she has no patience. It reminded me a lot of Cooper and Farah. Just reversed. So, yea, Bailey and Nick get their HEA, but not without working for it. The Epilogue was wonderful. Nick's POV of it made it real. I love the princess & the dragon together. It was fabulous!!
