Sometimes the choices we make in life take us down a path we never intended to travel. Sometimes that path takes us to a place we never wanted to be and holds us there longer than we ever wanted to stay. Grace Thompson knows all about making those choices. Becoming a teenage mother right out of high school was never part of the plan, and marrying a man who turned her dreams into living nightmares was more than enough to leave her broken. Now, years later, having lost her husband in a tragic accident, Grace longs for nothing more than to return home to the Texas ranch where she grew up and the family she left behind. Discovering her best friend, Noah Miller, is once again living at the ranch stirs something deep inside that Grace thought was long buried. Filled with longing for a new beginning, she embarks on a journey that not only brings her home but brings her face-to-face with her past. When Noah Miller left his family and the Amish way of life at the age of eighteen, the Buckner Ranch became his home and the opportunity he craved to build a new life for himself. A friendship with Grace soon developed and took root deep in his heart. He longed for that friendship to grow into something more, but his decision to join the Army put everything on hold. Although Noah can’t change the past, his stubborn heart clings to hope that a future with Grace is possible. Will Noah and Grace get a second chance at love, or will the past come between them in ways neither one could have ever foreseen?
The debut novel Finding Grace by author, Amber Wellin, definitely met the expectations of her desire to create relatable, engaging stories that pull readers in and point them to a closer relationship with God. Amber certainly achieved this goal with Finding Grace. I could relate, I was engaged, and it drew me in with God’s truths scattered throughout the theme of the book. I can’t wait to read more from Amber Wellin!
Christian Fiction is not the genre I typically reach for when looking for a book. However, this is a fantastic read. While this is Christian Fiction, there are so many other components to the story, including light romance and suspense. I enjoyed watching Grace's journey and how she grew throughout the story personally and within her family. My favorite line from the book is "We've all made mistakes," Grace responded, "but I'm thankful that by the Lord's grace, we don't have to let our failures define who we are." A must read!
Finding Grace by Amber Wellin is a stirring tale of heartbreak, healing, and the quiet courage it takes to begin again. Set against the wide skies of Texas, this novel explores the power of second chances not only in love, but in life itself.
Grace Thompson’s story begins in the ruins of regret a young mother whose dreams were shattered by choices that left her wounded and weary. Yet when tragedy frees her from the life that bound her, she finds herself drawn back home, to the Buckner Ranch, to the land and the man she left behind.
Noah Miller, a man of steadfast spirit and unspoken longing, carries his own ghosts. Once a soldier, once a boy who loved her, he now faces the question of whether the heart can truly forgive the past and whether love can rise again from the ashes of time.
Amber Wellin writes with honesty and tenderness, crafting a romance that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant. Her prose flows with emotional sincerity and small-town authenticity, reminding readers that redemption doesn’t come through forgetting the past, but through finding grace within it.
Finding Grace is more than a love story it’s a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, the healing power of forgiveness, and the beauty of returning home to oneself.
Finding Grace captures the reader’s attention from the start. Its unfolding was adorned with a tapestry of real-life struggles and opportunities to grow in faith through the unknown. The author did an excellent job of balancing the characters’ Christianity with the transparency of doubt and confusion. Great use of prayer and biblical principles in a practical world. It was equal parts redemption, a love story and suspense. I cannot wait to read more from this author.
I really enjoyed Amber Wellin's debut novel. A story of heartbreak and redemption and of finding a home for your heart. I especially liked the way Grace's family surrounded her with care and protection when she most needed it.
