This story was short, and I like short. In fact, long books make me nervous. Usually, by about halfway I'm wishing they were over and the author would get to the point. An author who can write novellas and write them well gets all the brownie points in the world from me because I know how under appreciated they are.
This story had excellent flow. The characters were loveable and quirky. The use of unusual analogies to describe Cindy's feelings was both cute and funny. I laughed more than once and felt I could identify. There were also a number of descriptions using hyphens. These were creative and not overdone. (I am now going to call my purse "le bag".)
The only problem I had with the story was that because it is in first person, Marshall's statement that he loved Cindy came out of midair. They were presented as longtime friends, then he says, "Oh yeah, I forgot to say I loved you." Perhaps this could have been handled with more subtlety, giving him more of a moment of revelation to himself. The end also felt, at times, like scenes were missing. I realize with the shorter length of the story much needed to be left out, but would have liked the plotline to not have time gaps.
Overall, a very clean story. No sex. No cursing. I enjoyed it a lot and recommend it to anyone looking for a quick, light read. Story is not written for young adults, but I think an older teen would enjoy it (and would rather they read this than more than half of the trash being sold as YA).
I am a sucker for friends to lovers stories, so I liked this even though it was really short - I would have liked a bit more of the journey and a little bit more of the guy's POV. But I did get this as a kindle freebie, so I can't complain.
