From Parker A. Garner comes a spellbinding tale for readers who crave richly woven worlds, complex characters, and high-stakes fantasy that challenges the threads of destiny.
Parker A. Garner is an author based in Tennessee, where she lives with her husband and their many beloved pets. A lifelong lover of storytelling, she has been writing for as long as she can remember and eventually followed her passion into publishing. When she's not crafting new stories, Parker enjoys traveling and immersing herself in different cultures, always seeking inspiration in the people and places she encounters.
Your Path is Sorrow by Parker A. Garner is a compelling debut romantasy that’s both intriguing and cloaked in mystery. The plot is easy to follow, and the world-building is solid. Personally, I found myself wishing for a bit more depth in that area, there’s such a fascinating premise with gods and humans living together, and the nerd in me wanted more detail about how that dynamic actually works.
I also really enjoyed the tension and longing between Corla and Ramsi. Even though the second half of the book doesn’t give us many scenes with them together, you can still feel Corla’s yearning for him, which adds so much to the emotional pull of the story.
And that ending? Absolutely wild. This book closes on a massive cliffhanger, quite possibly the most shocking one I’ve ever read. I’m still recovering.
There is a little grammar and spelling issues that I noticed but it didn’t distract me from the story that much.
“I leap up in a panic, reaching out toward his retreating figure. The sudden motion has him turning, and I lock eyes with him. I gasp like a shock of icy water has been tossed over my head. The intensity in his gaze is exhilarating and terrifying all at once.
He is devastating.”
Solid 4.5 ⭐️ for this debut!!! I loved the characters in this story, even the villains I wished would perish. The beginning of this book starts out so strong! You’re launched right into all the emotions with Corla from the first chapter. She is a very headstrong, determined FMC, which I love. There is adventure, friendships, betrayal, and gods who you’ll love and gods you’ll hate. The descriptions of each character and place paint such a vivid picture. I am really really looking forward to the continuation of this story!! There’s a book 2, right? Right??
*I am honored to have received this complimentary ARC from the author. This review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.
I’m going to need all these amazing debut fantasy authors to immediately have book 2 ready for me to read because… 1- They write amazing books and I need to be further immersed 2- You can’t just leave me with that ending and not expect me to be crawling up the wall for more details😂😂😂😂 All that aside, this was an amazing book from start to finish. Garner has a wonderful writing rhythm that keeps in time with Corla’s emotions to give us another aspect of being a part of the story. The misunderstood villian trope though??? Unmatched I’m obssessed. Ramsi is so multifaceted, and even with only seeing him for a small portion of the story, I KNOW he’s going to be another top tier book boyfriend (I’m talking bat boy level). I did have a feeling about the ending, but I’m okay with that because I was still thrown for a loop when all was said and done!
YOU. NEED. TO. READ. THIS!!! Let me start off by saying that I very scarcely hand out 5-stars but Your Path Is Sorrow deserves it. It grabbed me by the emotional collar and dragged me straight into the Under.
At its core, this is Corla’s story. A girl who, out of pure love and desperation, binds herself to the imprisoned God of Suffering, Ramsi. She becomes his mortal bride-to-be to relieve her mother of unbearable pain. The deal is simple and horrifying. Ramsi is supposed to call on her once a year until she is mature enough to marry him. Except… he never does…
So Corla does what any rational person would do when bound to a god who ghosted her for five years. She keeps living. She studies to become a vet, wanting to heal animals. She builds a life with her friends Lauren and Amir. She goes to parties. She meets the intriguing and slightly too-perfect Lucas. Everything feels normal-adjacent. But this is a fantasy, so obviously things are about to unravel…
When Corla is finally dragged into the Under to meet Ramsi, he appears cold, distant, and deeply unimpressed by the mortal girl tied to him. But this book thrives on deception, and appearances are very much out here lying. The connection between Corla and Ramsi simmers under every interaction, tense and magnetic, even when neither of them seems willing to acknowledge it.
Just as Corla starts leaning into that pull, she is ripped away by the other gods, who decide she is not a bride but a weapon. Their plan is to train her to destroy Ramsi once and for all. And this is where the story truly sinks its claws in.
What follows is a delicious, painful dance between fate versus free will, layered with magic, witches, divine politics, and betrayal on betrayal on betrayal. I was just as emotionally invested as Corla, trusting the wrong people, doubting the right ones, and constantly questioning everyone’s motives. I genuinely did not know who to believe, and I loved every second of that uncertainty!!
This book gripped me tight and raised me from perdition. It throws curveball after curveball without ever feeling cheap. Every twist feels earned, every manipulation tactic hits where it hurts, and the emotional stakes keep escalating until you are fully trapped.
And honestly, this line lives rent-free in my brain: “If they want a weapon, then I am going to become one. Let them sharpen me to a deadly point, and then they can feel the tip of it against their throats.”
Yes. That. Exactly that. You go Corla!!
I am wholeheartedly invested now. Emotionally compromised. Spiritually bound. I need to read the sequel ASAP and SO SHOULD YOU ❤️
4.5 ⭐️ This was an excellent debut novel! From the very beginning of the book, I was captivated by the story and atmosphere that the author created. I thought that Parker A. Garner's writing style was fantastic and over all this novel was very well written.
We got enemies to lovers, excruciatingly delicious tension, fantastic banter, morally grey characters, political intrigue and amazing world building.... pretty much everything you WANT in a fantasy romance.
I thoroughly enjoyed the FMC Corla's character development. The MMC... Ramsi... 🥵🔥wow... that's all.
The cliff hanger ending has me READY to devour the next book 🙌🏽
I was pleasantly surprised with this book and its uniqueness. My only con would be pacing . At times I felt like things were going way too fast and I wanted it to slow down a bit... but overall, it was a great story and I would absolutely recommend it!
I seem to be going hard on Romantasy lately and I’m not mad at it! This was SO GOOD. The cover drew me in and the story held me there. Unique Gods and magic system, classy spice, and a DROOLWORTHY MMC (and honestly FMC as well) HIGHLY recommend!
“You are the sweetest torture I’ve ever tasted. I want to drown in it.”
I was immediately drawn in with the realistic characters, gradual world building, and a story that delivered one twist after another.
I loved the world building. It's spread out and leads the story along, not just dumped right on you all at once.
The FMC is great. Confident but not pretentious. Flawed but willing to work on it. I'm worn out on characters that are immediately the best at everything and have everyone around them constantly pumping up their ego.
My one issue is the pacing of the romance, but I feel there's a reason behind it, so I'll let it simmer until the next book comes out.
There was a great amount of detail to each location and character without weighing down the story. It moved along at a great pace with a bit of intrigue and background sprinkled throughout. My perfect kind of ending: big revelations and a stressful cliffhanger. I can't wait for the next one.
If I could give this book six stars on this app I would!! I devoured this novel! It was so beautifully written and unique to typical stories of this type. Corla was such a strong fmc that I really related to. She’s fierce, protective, loyal, among many other attributes. This novel made me feel all the emotions and that I was with Corla during her adventures and trials. It’s one of those books that make you forget your reading as it feels so real. I cannot wait for book two, and I adore this novel! One of my new favourites!
“You don’t have to look so scared, mi fionella. I don’t bite. Hard.”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️
This book was a breath of fresh air in the Romantasy genre. I have not been enthralled by a book like this in quite some time. This is will be a book I will not stop talking about and sharing with others.
A thrilling adventure of a girl, Corla, seeking a way to save her mother and a God trapped in the Under Realm banished until someone can free him. Bound by their deal she has promised herself to Ramsi, God of Suffering, The Reaper of the Fields and will come to collect her when the time is right. Five years pass and Corla has been anxiously awaiting when Ramsi will take her to be his bride. The dark and mysterious God has a way with playing with our sweet Corla and it is captivating reading their tit for tat relationship develop. Book 2 cannot come fast enough.
Okay, I just finished reading, so I think I can finally breathe again…Your Path Is Sorrow by Parker A. Garner is giving me the full fantasy treatment and I guess I didn’t realize how badly I needed it.
This story begins with naive, Corla Everly, who in a desperate act to ease her mother’s suffering, makes a blood pact with Ramsi, the caged God of Suffering, signing away her soul and setting herself up as divine prey. Years later, her forbidden connection to Ramsi is exposed, throwing her into a dangerous world of gods, witches, and magic that her family tried to shield her from.
There is a lot to love about this book, but I'm not going to bury the lede…what I loved most was RAMSI. THIS MAN. THIS GOD. The way this character is written should be ILLEGAL (from his words, to his actions). When he said, "your moans are only for me, a heavenly noise only my ears get to hear." I SCREAMED into my pillow at 3 AM. I am UNWELL. 😈
The slow burn tension between Corla and Ramsi is the best kind of torture. Corla’s growth from a young girl making desperate deals, to a force to be reckoned with felt natural yet necessary, self-fulfilling yet destined… like she was truly discovering herself and her path for the first time. ❤️🔥Beyond the characters themselves, Garner's worldbuilding of Amery is so immersive I felt like I was breathing that air. The unique realms, the magic system, the divine politics - it's all woven together expertly.
Trope time:
⚔️ Enemies to Lovers 🏹 Forced Proximity 💫 Fated Mates 🖤 Morally Grey MMC 🔥 Touch Her and Die
Did we end on a cliffhanger? Oh we absolutely did, and I’m already willing to sacrifice whatever necessary to the God of Suffering himself if it means I’m able to find out what happens next.
Your Path is Sorrow is such a dazzling debut. Just prepare your heart, your soul, and maybe your loins, because this story might just leave you undone. Thank you to TorchLit Ink and Parker A. Garner for the opportunity to read and fall in love with this book.
Corla's childhood bargain with a trapped god to save her mother from suffering quietly shapes the entire course of her life. This story leans into that delicious sense of inevitability as things come due.
I had such a good time with this book. The dynamic between Corla and Ramsi pulled me in immediately. It reminded me of Hades and Persephone (and thus Von/Sage from Between Life and Death). It has tenderness wrapped in sharp edges, devotion under old wounds. Their relationship is a slow burn, but the yearning is so constant that it never feels slow. Even when circumstances keep them apart, you can feel how deeply she feels for him, and it gives the whole second half such a strong emotional undercurrent.
Corla herself is easy to root for; she is fierce, stubborn, and painfully vulnerable at times. Her growth from a desperate youth to someone who refuses to be a pawn was one of my favorite parts. And I loved that Ramsi’s “I’m terrible for you” angst is actually handled well; he never slips into cruelty just to push her away. He’s morally gray, yes, but he owns it without punishing her. My only complaint is that parts of the characters and setup feel a little too familiar.
The worldbuilding has layered mythology and political scheming. I didn’t expect it to get as dark as it does, but that honestly made me love it more. It has that perfect blend of emotional wreckage, divine interference, and romantic torment that I was hoping for. I can't wait to see things expand even more in the next book.
Thanks so much to MTMC and the author for the complimentary review copy. This review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.
I just finished my arc (thank you TorchLit Ink)....and y'all.....
I am not okay 😭😭 Okay, I am "okay" I guess but the emotional rollercoaster and the cliffhanger was not fair 😭 I was not prepared! With the emotional whiplash and plot twists, this book is an immediate favorite and exceeded all expectations I had! This is an incredible debut by the author and made me an instant fan with book 2 an instant buy when it is released!
This book was so captivating! I flew through it in just a couple days because I could not put it down!
The FM and MMC 🥹😍😍 I cannot wait to read more about them! The FMC is fierce, and strong and perfectly vulnerable. She's a realistic character and I love her for it! The MMC is book boyfriend material and I'll leave it there to avoid spoilers. There are characters I love, characters I wish I could force to live in an eternal loop of torture and then there are characters I am excited to learn and see more of in the next book!
The worldbuilding was spot on, and the way the characters were tied into the worldbuilding was incredible done. The descriptions of the multiple settings throughout the book were immersive and detailed in a way that could only draw you further into the story.
If you are a fan of romantasy, strong FMCs, mysterious and alluring MMCs, Gods, witches and crazy backstories, then this is a book you need to read!
Blurb: Corla has been raised to avoid the gods and anything involving them her entire life. However, when she breaks that vow and ties herself to a trapped god, she triggers a chain reaction of events. Years later, she finds herself more intimately involved in the world of gods than she ever imagined – and in danger at every turn. Can she continue to hide the secret of her parentage? Will she be able to escape the vengeful gods? Or will she fulfill the prophecy that she will be the end of the world?
Review: The first things I noticed and fell in love with about this book were the beautiful and vivid descriptions, with superb imagery, word choice, and language. However, it didn't end there; this world captured my attention and took me for a journey. I enjoyed the pace of the world building, the suspense, and the magic and lore of the world. One critique I had is the tropes the book is being marketed with. In this first book, we really don't get to experience much in terms of the enemies to lovers, touch and 💀, or morally grey MMC. That aside, I did genuinely enjoy the story, the FMC, and cannot wait for the next book – especially after that cliffhanger!!
I loved this story and couldn't put it down once I started. I was immediately drawn into the story because of the immersiveness of the writing itself. In chapter one I was already diving headfirst and I didn't even really understand what was going on. (you learn later). I loved the characters, the world building, and everything about this story. The world building was paced really well, filling in the reader on the history and lore of the world but at the same time, leaving you needing more. I have so many lingering questions about the world but I'm sure the answers will be revealed as the series continues. The characters in this one are beautifully written and Corla, the FMC, is wonderful! She is written as confident but flawed, filled with warring emotions about not just herself but those surrounding her and those who have passed. I think she is very relatable in that she sees herself as unworthy and alone, even though she is more powerful than she knows. The betrayal and sadness that she experiences is written so well, her emotions became my own and I loved her character. The FMC and MMC relationship is my favorite, but I can't really explain why without spoiling the story...but I will say I loved it and I can't wait for more of this MMC. The ending was so good, but I was SO SAD that it was over because I enjoyed this book so much!! I can't wait for the next one in this series, I'm hooked!!
Thank you Torch Lit Ink and Parker A. Garner for an ARC of this absolute hidden gem of a book!
I had SUCH a good feeling about this book even before I read it! I couldn't explain why, but I just felt it was going to be so good and people needed to know about it - a hidden gem!! I'm so glad to say I was right!
I was immersed in the story so quickly! I just kept wanting to turn the pages and read more and more! The character dynamics were well contrasted and also complimented each other. The lore and worldbuilding was so intriguing and I loved the hint of underlying mystery with each bit we learned more about!
There were plot twists!! They were SO. GOOD!! The story took turns I never would have expected nor guessed and it felt like so much was happening in just this one book but I wasn't overwhelmed at all!
The cliffhanger was absolute madness!! I cannot wait for book 2!! It is an absolute NEED!!!!
“Get to Ramsi, Corla. He is your future. He is your freedom. He is yours.”
So I read these books a little out of order and not going to lie kinda glad that I did! I was honored to be on the ARC team for Your Path is Sacrifice and when I tell you I bawled like a baby at the ending and then started reading this book! And OMG!! I LITERALLY CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK!!! These books have changed me as a whole being! The betrayal, the pain, anguish, my gods the love, compassion, the fire! These books are out of this world! I’m not crying ok, you are! Oh and still eff Lycaster!
“I’m not going to break.” This is a constant between both books and I love how it came full circle!!
Your Path Is Sorrow has an interesting plot with solid world-building, though I found myself wanting more depth—especially with such an unique premise. Gods, witches, and mortals all coexist in the the ancient realm of Amery and I really wanted more detail on how that dynamic works and how the magic actually functions within the world.
That said, the author nailed the tension and longing between Corla and Ramsi. Even though the second half doesn’t give us many scenes of them together, Corla’s yearning for him is evident and adds so much to the narrative. I did notice a few spelling and grammar issues, but nothing that took away from my overall enjoyment.
The ending was completely unhinged in the best way. This book closes on a MASSIVE cliffhanger so I’m diving straight into book two. And I need more Ramsi in the second because I love a misunderstood villain. If you like romantasy with plenty of action, mystery, violence, fated-mates, magic and real yearning you should check this one out.
This romantasy includes so many elements that are familiar and welcome to fans of the genre but it also has some interesting features (I am a big fan of dream-walking and always like when it’s included) that made it easy to fly through— the ending🎢!! Interested to see where it goes!
Gods Witches SECRETS 👀 Ancient prophecies Magic Multi realm Seer Spirits Dream walking Majestic foxes (my fav 🦊)
I seriously loved everything about this story, from first to last page it had its claws in me. The pacing is perfection, the world building, dream walking, and characters are chef’s kiss. The writing style keeps you engaged and is easy to read. Tropes include; slow burn, blood magic, physical abuse, and betrayal. This is book 1 in the Fates Entwined Series.
If you love fated mates, morally grey, lots of lore of gods, magic and book series this is the book for you! I devoured this book! Corla and Ramsi are such a delicious enemies to lovers, fated mates who are wounded souls. Highly recommend supporting an indie author especially this beautifully written book!
🔥 𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬: ⚔️ Enemies to Lovers 🏹 Forced Proximity 💫 Fated Mates 🖤 Morally Grey MMC 🔥 Touch Her and Die
Such a surprise of a book! i was intrigued the entire time, not knowing who to trust, and im even more intrigued with the twist at the end! I can’t wait for book 2 and Corla’s vengeance which i know is coming and which will tear Lycaster apart!
This was super good and was hard to not read in one sitting. Garner brings together a FMC willing to do anything for her mother and a morally gray MMC and creates a world that entwines their fates and puts them at the mercy of the gods. The world building was detailed while leaving room for growth as the series progresses and I loved all the twists and turns in the plot that kept me on the edge of my seat and guessing (and not guessing correctly, haha). Overall, an awesome debut and I can’t wait to get my hands on book 2!
You guys!! This was sooo good!! We start with Corla being really young and trying to save her mother from pain so she makes a bargain she will soon regret. I love how strong and fierce Corla is, she is determined to not let anyone treat her as a pawn. When I tell you I was hooked from the very beginning and captivated by Ramsi, he is the tortured not so-villain who has eyes only for her. The way this is non stop action and yearning, omggg and the ending!?? Whaat!!? The ending had my jaw dropped, I need to start the next book like yesterday!!
*ARC provided by @torchlitink in return for an honest review*
”And know this, my dear, brave Corla: if they harm a single hair on your head, I will relish hunting them, binding them, and laying them at your feet to give you the final blow. No, Corla, you are not scared. Remember, my queen, you are a thing to be feared."
Title: Your Path is Sorrow by Parker A. Garner ( @parkeragarnerauthor ) Series: Book One of The Fates Entwined Release Date: Today! 🥰 Link in bio!!
Rating: 6/5 stars (yes, I broke my rating scale for this book) Spice: 3 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Tissue Moments: 2 🤧🤧
Favorite Tropes: Enemies to lovers, Morally Grey MMC, Fated, Romantasy, “Touch Her & I will personally give you to her to finish off”, gods & goddesses, light Beauty & the Beast vibes.
Corla strikes a deal with the god of suffering, Ramsi, in hopes to ease her mother’s pains. What she never expected was for this deal to set her in grave danger or draw her closer to Ramsi himself. Visited by him frequently in her dreams, she finds herself falling for him & thinking that perhaps the offer to be his bride isn’t so bad after all. But will Corla be able to pierce through Ramsi’s heavily guarded heart… or will fate intervene in another way?
Thoughts: I have never so desperately needed a sequel to a series in my entire life. This book is gorgeously written & will keep you on the edge of your seat just dying to know what will happen next. I will not spoil a single thing, so you’ll just need to trust me when I say grab a copy and grab your tissues!
What would you sacrifice to save the one you love most from suffering?
In the ancient realm of Amery, a bewitched and blood-soaked land in which gods, witches, and arcane magic engage in a tense and violent danse macabre, young Corla finds herself on the cups of insanity. To end her mother's suffering, she binds herself to the caged God of Suffering, Ramsi, trading a debt lifelong servitude and certain death in chains for in love of her dying mother. Waiting as a prisoner on death row, it is years before she is dragged from the comfortable, quiet life she has tried to build for herself into the clutches of her once and future god and the mysterious forces that draw her to him.
As her world unravels around her, Corla is also forced to face the secrets her mother desperately tried to shield her from. An earth-shattering revelation, a struggle in the darkness, a path crossed with the divine, and a treacherous labyrinth of deception and torture await Corla at the end of a journey of prophecy, self-discovery, and sorrow - and if she isn't careful, neither she nor her beating heart will survive the darkness.
If you're ready to be drawn into a tense stand-off between the wicked and the divine, this is the book that will keep you frantically flipping the page, straining to see what happens next. I for one love a book with future consequences, and the premise of a girl promising herself in death and destruction to a god who wants OUT before her frontal lobe is fully formed was entirely delicious, and the book as a whole lived up to my dreams. Part vengeance, part grief, steeped in mystery, and fraught with peril, Corla's life as above is so below in the book - caught in the trap of so many things she doesn't understand, at once yanked around by the forces of fate and the schemers trying to change it, and bound by her strong-willed determination, Corla is a force to reckon with and also a victim in a story she isn't writing.
Anyone who is intrigued by the games gods play; witchcraft not just as a vibe, but as a whole practice here to cause chaos to an otherwise well-balanced world; grief as the idea of love persevering; steamy steamy shadow daddies who fall first and harder despite their best efforts; a splash of a school vibe as a treat; extremely dysfunctional family, found or otherwise; not letting your dreams be dreams (IYKYK); toxic blonde men; "fine, I'll do it myself" kinds of women; and a fantasy romance with extremely high stakes that ends in the wildest of cliffhangers, you'll find MUCH to love here. I can't believe more people aren't talking about this book, and I will immediately be diving into the next installment in the series! Congrats Parker on such a wildly seductive debut!
Your Path is Sorrow could easily be the next viral Romantasy book series for 2025!
Parker Garner is an absolute genius! I was instantly hooked from the very first chapter. The way Garner shifts and molds the book's universe was jaw-dropping, only revealing bits and pieces at very key moments (leaving the reader not expecting the plot twists!). We are introduced to Corla, our strong female lead who makes a deal with Ramsi, God of Suffering, to help end her mother's suffering. The caveat? She sold her soul to Ramsi, and now she has to wait with bated breath until he cashes in.
But, what Corla was taught in history class may not be the truth- is Ramsi really as bad as the rest of the gods say he is? Does he deserve to be caged? He took away her mother's pain, when none of the other gods answered her prayers. Her path can either save her world...or doom it.
My opinions: Oh goodness, where to start! I was utterly speechless after finishing this book. It was entertaining, to say the least, with a healthy dose of deception intertwined with romance and yearning. Gods and witches play a key role, being different beings than the "mortals." The vivid imagery Garner depicts in her words is what really elevates this book to top tier status. While I was reading, I could easily picture every single detail that was written- down to the color of the fur on the foxes, the wheat fields, and a certain person's steel grey eyes. The way Garner drew my attention and had it for all of the pages was truly amazing! It's how I finished this book in under 24 hours! Not a spoiler, but a word of caution, fellow readers: not everything is at it seems 😉 And the cliffhanger at the end? Mind = blown. You will want to be clicking your Kindle or turning the page, expecting another chapter (at least, that's what I was doing 🤣)!
I would highly recommend this book for anyone who is a fan of world-building, a strong female protagonist, other worldly beings, and just the right about of spice❤️
You know that feeling you get when you start a book and by the end of the first chapter something in your brain just clicks and you sit up straighter going oh I’m going to love this. Then you finish the book and you know you were right. That is how I felt reading Your Path is Sorrow by Parker A. Garner. From the moment I read the first chapter I was hooked. I devoured this book.
“My path is Sorrow.”
We first meet our FMC Corla when she’s making a bargain with the banished god of Suffering, she will become his bride if he takes her mother’s pain away. The deal was Ramsi would collect her the following year but five years later he still hasn’t come. Until one day one of Ramsi’s court comes for her and the world she knew is changed forever.
The world building was the perfect amount, not talking about 300 pages of world building that makes your head hurt from trying to piece things together to understand what’s happening but slowly giving you enough to learn about the world over the course of the entire book.
“I wanted to show you that this world is not all darkness and decay.”
I could not put this book down, between all the little world tidbits we got, the tension and banter from Ramsi to Corla and everything else this book was perfection.
“He is the Reaper and I am every bit his dark bride.”
I loved this book, the magic system and world feel so fresh and unique compared to other romantasy books I’ve read recently. If you’re expecting this book to be fast paced with lots of action you will be disappointed. This book makes me think of Peaches and Honey by R. Raeta, Addie Larue and House of Blight by Maxym M. Martineau because of the writing style so if you liked any of those books you would probably enjoy Your Path is Sorrow. I’m immediately diving into book 2 Your Path is Sacrifice because what do you mean that’s how it ends?! *Insert big bang theory gif of Sheldon throwing papers saying I don’t need sleep I need answers*
This book was not what I expected in the best way possible ! It totally surprised me !!
In some ways, it’s a pretty standard romantasy, but it also brings a lot of uniqueness that I enjoyed. The world-building was especially well done. I liked how it was spread out naturally over the course of the book and woven into Corla’s story, the different versions of the world’s lore and history were incorporated in a way that felt organic to her storyline and it never felt overly heavy or info-dumped, even with how much lore there is.
Where this story really shines, though, is the plot. There are definitely classic fantasy romance elements and tropes, but there are also so many twists and turns that feel completely out of pocket. I had multiple moments where I was genuinely surprised or just sitting there like, “wait… really?” because things kept going in directions I didn’t expect. Once I hit Part 2, I was fully hooked and ended up finishing the book in one sitting.
That said, it’s not quite a five-star read for me mainly because of the romance between the Corla and Ramsi, I just don’t totally feel the love yet. I think I understand what the author is going for with their relationship, but I’m not completely sure. I can’t tell if it’s a writing issue or something intentional that’ll make more sense in book two. Either way, some of their interactions left me a little confused and I’m not 100% sold on them yet.
Overall, this was a great book and I can’t wait to read book two. The ending genuinely caught me off guard, I don’t even know what I thought was going to happen, but it definitely wasn’t that. It ends on one of those confusing, mind-bending, rethink-everything-I-just-read cliffhangers that makes it impossible not to continue.
"Your Path is Sorrow" grabbed me from page one and didn't let go. Ancient realm, gods, witches, arcane magic – it's all here, swirling together in a volatile dance that kept me on the edge of my seat. Corla, our heroine, isn't your typical chosen one. She's just trying to live a normal life, which is tough when you've got a pesky blood pact with the God of Suffering hanging over your head. Talk about baggage.
The world of Amery is richly imagined, full of dangerous magic and even more dangerous deities. These gods aren't the cuddly, benevolent types; they're more like capricious toddlers with cosmic power, and they love messing with mortals. Corla's journey is a wild ride, packed with twists, turns, and betrayals that had me gasping. Just when I thought I knew what was coming, BAM! Another curveball.
The supporting characters are equally compelling, each with their own secrets and agendas. And the magic system? Fascinating and intricate, with real consequences. Every action has a reaction, and often, that reaction involves a whole lot of sorrow. The exploration of fate versus free will is cleverly woven into the narrative, making you think about your own choices and their potential impact.
I devoured this book in a single sitting. It's a thrilling blend of action, emotion, and thought-provoking themes. Corla's struggle to find her place in a world that seems determined to crush her is both heartbreaking and inspiring. I laughed, I gasped, and I may have shed a tear or two. Now I'm left with a serious book hangover and a desperate need for the sequel. When's the next one coming out? I'm dying to know what happens next! Five stars, and I can't wait for more!
I have to say it has been a minute since I dove into a new Romantasy series but oh man am I glad that Your Path is Sorrow was the one that took me back into the Romantasy world, because Parker A. Garner delivered. Your Path is Sorrow is Book 1 of The Fates Entwined Series so you are left on a bit of a cliffhanger but it was also the perfect stopping point for the book to create so many questions and anticipation for the continuation of the series. Garner's words built a world and characters so enchanting that she pulled me right inside the pages into her high-stakes fantasy. This story is all about the complex characters, world building, pivotal choices, and intense plotline. I went through a multitude of emotions on this read and throughout it I was definitely on the edge of my seat so to speak. Garner had a way of constantly keeping me guessing within her story and throwing little pieces of the big puzzle at you throughout it to lead you on an incredible journey to the end. You do get tastes of the Romantasy aspects within this story between the main characters Corla a young women who enters in a pact with Ramsi the caged God of Suffering and their Fates Entwined. In this tale you get a fierce FMC and a morally grey MMC who must both go through the struggles between their fates and free will, where every choice they make has substantial consequences. Now that I have met Corla and Ramsi I am not ready to give them up and need to know where the rest of their story takes them so I will be waiting for their journey to continue with Parker A.Garner's next book in this series.
