A deliciously sexy, bad boy/good girl, hockey romance from Amazon Top 20 bestselling sports romance author, Maren Moore.
Lennon Saint Devereaux has a reputation that precedes him. Orleans University’s resident bad boy on and off the ice. And I know to stay far away. Until there’s a mixup and we’re forced to share our ice time. I can’t stand his cocky attitude, or how annoyingly attractive he is. He’s the reason the Bad Boy Rule exists. Because guys like him will break your heart. But the more time I spend with the hot, tattooed enforcer, the more I realize that being bad… has never been so much fun.
Saint
Lennon Rousseau plays the role of a high society socialite well. She’s the definition of a good girl. Valedictorian, president of the esteemed Social Club, a purity pact with her friends. And I want to ruin her the way that her father ruined my life. I can think of a hundred ways to dirty her up, and getting her beneath me is the perfect place to start. I thought she might be the answer to getting my revenge, but now I’m beginning to wonder if she’s the one who’ll bring me to my knees instead.
The Bad Boy rule is a standalone in the Hellcats Hockey series which takes place in the Orleans University world.
The Bad Boy Rule (Hellcats Hockey, #1) by Maren Moore
5/5 stars
Oh. My. God. I looooooooooooove this book. I love it so much. It's my second book by Maren. The first one was so sweet and I really enjoyed it. But this masterpiece.. this one is HOT. I completely, madly and utterly fell in love with Saint Devereaux. I almost want to steal him for myself! The spice is incredible. My previous book was also a five star book, but this one completely blew that one away. I need to have a physical copy of this stunning book on my shelves so I can devour it all over again and at least once a year!
This book is the story of Saint Deveraux (a notorious player, bad boy and cocky but talented hockey player) and Lennon Rousseau (an obedient rich girl, innocent and loyal daughter).
Saint is hardened by his home life. His father is a drug addict, a drunk that abuses his mother. And in the past even his own son. But now that Saint towers over him he leaves him alone. Saint safe place is his sport. He finds solace, peace and an outlet as a hockey player.
And Lennon used to find peace in figure skating. But her father took that away from her a year ago. So she could focus on college, fundraisers and other obligations he lies on top of her. But Lennon secretly arranged a private hour a week on a skating rink to get back into figure skating again. The thing is.. the skating rink is double booked and Saint is booked at the same hour as she is.
And the second their eyes connect, something sizzles. Both annoyed they don't have a free hour to themselves. But also instantly drawn and ready to taunt the other person.
"Still... not... leaving." His words are low and heavy, his brow arching as he says them. "Neither am I." I lift my chin. "Seems like we're sharing the ice, then, doesn't it?"
I immediately fell in love with their push and pull, their chemistry and their taunting remarks. How each other responses drives them what to say next. The looks, the touches... my lord I set my own body on fire! I was grinning and smiling like an idiot right from the get to.
"What's your name? So I can be sure to tell Summer that I'd rather choke and die than ever share the ice with you again."
A huge swift in the story comes when Lennon's father suddenly wants her to start dating her ex-boyfriend Chandler again. Her cheating ex-boyfriend. It hurts her to her core. And together with her best friend Maisie she comes up with a plan to start fake dating a bad boy as a f**k you to her father and his disregard for her happiness. Maisie suggests she should ask Saint and she does.
Meanwhile Saint figured out it was Lennon's father who was the catalyst of the demise of his home life. And he agrees to her proposal all in order to take revenge on her father and hurt him like he hurt his family.
But as hard as he tries to hold onto hate. He cannot deny that Lennon is the only girl that he wants to devour more than once. And Saint's filthy mouth? It sets our girl on fire.
"Don't forget, Golden Girl, that you're mine to kiss... touch.. whatever I want. Even if it's just for show."
Slowly but surely they both start to see a softer side in the other one. A stronger side. A fighting side. And when this little scene happens..
"Lennon." God, my name rolling off his lips feels like a sin, and I want to drown in it. "Come. Here." I push down the reasons I should say no, that I should stay on my side of this tiny elevator, and I slowly crawl over to his side, lowering myself to the floor beside him. Neither of us says anything for seconds that seem to stretch on forever, staring, breathing. Until he reaches out, palm curving around my neck as he hauls me to him, smashing his lips against mine.
Things get explosive. And when Lennon offers him everything but s*x. They go off the rails and my God that journey is all-consuming and I loved EVERY second of them exploring, touching, connecting and seeing. Seeing the soul of the other one.
There's a possessive place inside me that's preening with the fact that I'll be taking all of her firsts. That no motherf**ker on this planet will have them. It's fucking mine. She's fucking mine.
But it's not only a book about lust. It's also a story about pain and hurt that they both went through as kids. It's horrible, painful and my heart broke for the both of them.
Why did you come here, Saint?" "I didn't know where else to go." It's a whisper, his voice rough and uneven as he pauses, holding my gaze. "You're the only thing in my life that feels right anymore."
And did I mention how filthy our boy is? THIS filthy!
"You know what you taste like, Golden Girl?" I look down at him, cataloging his hard, possessive stare, mouth hovering over my p***y." "Mine."
And our boy wants to claim every single part of her.
The truth is I don't even know if Lennon is mine, but what I do know is she's not going to be anyone else's.
I cannot stress enough how beautiful, hot, powerful, painful, sexy and just utterly brilliant this book is! I love how they went from taunting to f**king to connecting to loving.
And I LOVE that this book shows so many authors how you tackle secrets and how you deal with it. I hate 3rd act break up scenes in romances. I know they are extremely popular to use. But every time it needlessy happens the joy instantly leaves my body.
And this quote encompasses why I love this book to pieces. And why this bad boy/good girl book stands above so many others!
When you love someone, you don't leave. You don't walk away when it's too much. When they make mistakes. I don't need you to prove anything to me, Saint. You already have. And you just proved it again.
You. Don't. Leave!!!
5 HUGE, delicious, all consuming stars for The Bad Boy Rule. A book that I will read many, many times!
Maren Moore never disappoints when I’m in the mood for a super addictive, read in one sitting romance packed with swoony moments and spice 🌶️ 💕
I ADORED this one! I’m such a sucker for a good hockey romance and this one had everything!!!! Saint the classic bad boy and Lennon the rich girl trying to get her controlling parents off her back, so obviously… fake dating trope enters. And like any good fake dating setup, you know someone’s going to catch real feelings!! GETS ME EVERY SINGLE TIME 😏
That trope plus the enemies to lovers tension? YES. It made the book SO fun!!!
The whole vibe centers around her finally being DONE with living the life her parents expect of her. She wants to break out of her goody two-shoes shell and start doing things her way and honestly, I loved that for her. She’s such an empowering FMC, and I was cheering her on the whole time. And don’t get me started on Saint he might act like a bad boy on the outside, but he’s 100% a softie deep down.
And yes, it's spicy and romantic, but it also goes deeper. Lennon’s struggle with her parents and the pressure they put on her felt so real. And Saint? His family situation is heartbreaking. The way Maren weaves their emotional trauma into the story made my heart ache (in the best way) 🥺😭
If you love fake dating, emotional depth, hockey boys, and a heroine who finally chooses herself, this book is definitely one to add to your tbr. Maren Moore, you’ve done it again 👏🔥.
it's your classic bad boy/good girl trope, sports romance vibes and all. which, like, normally i’m here for, but i’m currently in the worst reading slump ever. so the whole thing just felt...predictable?
the characters were cute, i guess. but nothing groundbreaking. if you're looking for something light and fluffy and easy to read, this MIGHT be your vibe. but for me? it just didn't hit.
cute concept, but didn't pull me out of my slump. 3/5 stars.
thank you to valentine pr for the e-arc in exchange for my honest review!
4.5 stars! The Bad Boy Rule is the newest Maren Moore release and it as so much fun! First off, the cover, I’m obsessed. And then the story was so fun too. College romance, hockey player x figure skater, bad boy x good girl, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, opposites attract.
I loved Saint and Lennon together and seeing their character growth on their own as well. They meet when they both end up booking private skating/ice time for the same time, he then realizes she’s the daughter of a man he hates (for reasons with his family). He decides she’d be perfect for his revenge, at exactly the same time she realizes he’d be perfect to use as her (fake) date to stick it to her father as well. But of course real feelings get involved too and it goes from there!
Saint and Lennon were so cute and I loved the caretaking between them. I loved how everything worked out between them in the end, when you think there might be a bigger conflict there actually wasn’t which was so refreshing. I liked the bad boy x good girl vibes, the nicknames Golden Girl x Satan, and his teammates (hopefully we get more in this upcoming series). There is some heavier content with his family life and I loved him finding his person in her.
CW: emotional and physical abuse by a parent (mostly off page), drug and alcohol abuse (a secondary character), toxic familial relationships, chronic illness of a child (briefly mentioned, very minor secondary character), fighting/physical violence (on page)
Oh my goodness, right from the start I was all in. Arrogant (and hardcore playboy) hockey player reluctantly sharing a rink with a prim and proper affluent former figure skater? What could possibly go wrong?!
Of course, during all of the amazing banter these characters had, as Moore slowly builds up the tension between Lennon and Saint, all I could think was TOE-PICK! (Iykyk) Every scene these two were in was like magic. And the best part was the slow burn nature of the first half of the book, that allows us to fully buy into this relationship prior to any hardcore steam, and it does indeed get steamy.
One aspect I loved most was the fake dating trope and how it’s utilized here to help us a) get a few LOL moments b) allow for Saint to get a peek into the life Lennon leads, versus his perception of it. Both characters go into the story with quite the misperception of each other’s backstory, but soon come to realize they don’t know the half of it.
I so enjoyed getting to see Lennon take charge of her own life, stepping outside of her family’s dictated guidelines for her life. And of course, Saint - the bad boy with a heart of gold. His stress over protecting his mother while not setting off his father is visceral at times. It’s hard not to fall in love with him, dirty mouth and all. I am so excited to see where this series is headed next.
Read if you like: ▪️enemies to lovers ▪️forced proximity ▪️hockey x figure skating ▪️fake dating ▪️bad boy meets good girl ▪️college setting
Absolutely devoured this book and I’m not even sorry about it. I really wanted to savor it but Maren put something STRONG and addicting in this one.
I absolutely adored Lennon. She comes off as timid and innocent but she has sass like no other and is NOT afraid to stand up for herself or for the people she loves. Saint- marry me now. He is complexxxx but goodness that bad boy, don’t care about anyone persona just does something. AND the mouth on this man you guys. You are not even ready. My highlights are astronomical just because of Saint. THEN to see the trauma he faced and the things he still to this day struggles with? You really understand him so much better and my heart was just so heavy for him.
The side characters were so good. I loved Lennon’s bestfriend/roommate, Maisie, and want her story as soon as possible 🤭 And REALLY loved Tommy (he deserves to have his old truck restored still by the way) 🥹
Overall, this may be my favorite of Maren’s so far. I have loved watching the growth in her writing and I really think she did amazing packing this story full of and balancing the emotion, spice, and heartwarming moments! 🤗
this was my first book by maren and safe to say not my last!! i know a lot of people don't enjoy this trope but this book was so bigneable and i literally read it in under 3 hours <3 defo perfect if you're looking for a book to read in between heavier ones. it did have some personal topics and huge self hatred mentions so just be aware !!!
The Bad Boy Rule was my first book by Maren Moore, and WOW, it did not disappoint! I thought I was signing up for a cute, spicy hockey romance, but this book came in hot with ALL the feels.
Saint is the textbook definition of a bad boy, and yep, I was obsessed with him the moment he showed up. And then there’s Lennon. She’s strong, independent, and absolutely refuses to be intimidated by Saint. I LOVED her.
These two are total opposites, yet they fit together perfectly. Their chemistry jumps off the page, and once things heat up between them, it does not slow down, and honestly, I was here for every sizzling moment. There’s hockey, sure, but what I loved most was the focus on the characters’ personal stories. It made everything feel so real and easy to connect with.
If you’re into bad boys, fiery chemistry, and a romance that’s both spicy and heartfelt, I HIGHLY recommend this one!
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT: ❤️🔥 Good Girl x Bad Boy ❤️🔥 Opposites Attract ❤️🔥 Loathe to Love ❤️🔥 Secret Hookups
Holy moly. When I tell you I devoured this book, I mean it. I’m a sucker for a bad boy who’s fiercely protective of the people he loves, and Saint? He’s everything. Our MMC is broody, bold, and spicy in the best way. Beneath that edge is a man with a soft heart and a whole lot of love to give. Total dreamboat.
Lennon, our FMC, is the sheltered, rule-following girl who’s finally ready to step outside the suffocating grip of her parents’ control. Watching her break free and find her voice was so satisfying. The dynamic between her and Saint had me hooked from the start. A fake relationship between the sweet girl and the notorious womanizer? Sign. Me. Up. The chemistry, the tension, the slow unraveling of emotional walls—it all felt so real and raw.
What I loved most is that this wasn’t just a spicy hockey romance. It goes deeper. It tackles tough issues like toxic family dynamics and physical abuse, and it does so with care. The emotional layers hit hard, and the story felt heavier (in a good way) because of it. That said, definitely check the trigger warnings before diving in.
This book gave me butterflies, broke my heart a little, and made me root so hard for two people learning how to choose themselves and each other.
This was my first book by this author, and I loved it! Lennon and Saint have such fantastic banter and their chemistry is off the charts. The characters are also really complex, which makes the story all the more engaging. I found myself laughing at some moments while others tugged at my heartstrings. Lennon comes from a wealthy family, and she’s spent her whole life trying to be the "good girl," always seeking her parents' approval. On the other hand, we have Saint, a playboy hockey player with a tough background—he grew up in a poor family with an abusive father. Their worlds collide in such an interesting way. Lennon, wanting to break free from her parent’s expectations, asks Saint to be her fake boyfriend, and things get fun from there!
I adored Lennon. Sure, she starts off looking sweet and innocent, but she’s got so much strength and fierceness inside her. She’s determined to live for herself and it’s amazing how she stands up to her parents. Plus, her sassy comebacks to Saint are just delightful! As for Saint, he’s the bad boy type—known for being a player without any interest in relationships. His main focus is to improve in hockey to support his mom. He can be rude and grumpy, but there’s also something charming and thoughtful about him. My heart went out to him when I learned about his story.
The character development in this book is so well done! Lennon grows more confident and brave, with Saint helping her find her voice. In turn, Saint starts to open up about his family, and it’s lovely to see how Lennon becomes his safe space. The trust they build and the way they stand up for each other is so heartwarming. I also really appreciated that there wasn’t a third-act breakup—just a sweet, satisfying ending! Overall, it was a feel-good read that was lighthearted, sweet, swoony, and spicy. I’m super excited to dive into the next book in this series!
Daughter of wealthy social climbing parents who expect only perfection from her, Lennon realizes when her father insists she take back her cheating hand-selected by him boyfriend that she needs to stand up for herself. After a disastrous meeting with her university’s hockey himbo, she contrived of a scheme to make her parents understand she’s done following their dictates. Little does she know the hockey god has an agenda of his own which involves revenge on Lennon’s father.
Saddled with the yoke of dysfunctional parents in the form of an abusive, alcohol and drug-addicted father and a codependent mother who refuses to stand up for herself or her son, Saint has been shouldering adult responsibilities since the tender age of fourteen. When he runs into the daughter of the man he feels is responsible for the onset of his father’s downward spiral, he sees the opportunity to exact revenge by despoiling the man’s daughter, Lennon.
Except love has a way of changing plans and molding people into different forms, especially when it’s unexpected. Will Lennon succeed in asserting her independence from her powerful parents? Will Saint choose love for Lennon or revenge on her father?
This was steamy in the best ways, and both MCs experienced growth, transformation, and self-discovery.
I received an advance reader copy from The Author Agency, and I’m sharing my honest review.
I enjoyed this one. At first I wasn’t sure about Saint, cause some of the things he was saying made me cringe at times. He grew on me. I loved his banter with Lennon. I like how they handled certain situations in a mature manner. Towards the end I wish we had more answers with some of things that went down. Please tell me we are getting book about Bennett and Maisie?!?!?!
i read this in one day. i was eating it up!!!!!! also can we discuss the cover? hot. a man with tattoos. red hair representation. sign me up lol. i knew i wanted to annotate immediately and i love how pretty it looks. the banter between the two main characters had me giggling. i love that they are there for each other with their tough home lives.
saint has a reputation as new orleans university’s bad boy on and off the ice. strictly a no relationship kind of guy. the bad boy rule is in place because of this man. lennon is a high society socialite who’s reputation is good girl, valedictorian, president of an esteemed social club, and part of a purity pact with her friends. these two opposites have to share ice time which lead them into a fake dating situationship. saint (aka satan) wants revenge on lennon’s (golden girl) father so he agrees to date her so she can show her parents she can make her own decisions on her relationship. as time goes on, sparks fly. will they fall in love or will he break her heart?
tropes featured: bad boy x good girl, nicknames, figure skater/hockey player, virgin heroine, opposites attract, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, fake dating, and spicy

This is my new favorite Maren Moore book and I am literally obsessed with Saint and Lennon. I loved it so much! I have a new favorite book boyfriend and his name is Saint Devereaux.
It’s absolutely no secret that I’m a Stan for Maren Moore but this one blew me away. I knew I was going to love this book but I didn’t realize exactly how much!
It was everything I wanted and more.
✨ College Hockey ✨ Good Girl/ Bad Boy ✨ Black Cat MMC ✨ Fake Dating ✨ Enemies to Lovers ✨ Protective MMC ✨ Virgin Heroine
Saint and Lennon were perfect. The banter, the sniping, the way these two truly disliked each other… it was the perfect mix of chemistry and tension and I could not put this book down. I was hooked I loved it so much.
The fake dating aspect of this made me giddy because it started out so rocky. Lennon and Saint grew up in completely different worlds and watching them find common ground made my little heart pitter patter.
But once they figured it out, man these two were spicy as heck 🥵🥵 hello questionable uses of hockey tape and a penalty box that had “seen some things”
Read this now. Saint turns from bad boy to the most absolutely down bad man when he realizes how much her cares about Lennon and I loved that journey for him so much.
Expect: Hockey Romance, Good Girl x Bad Boy, Figure Skater, Forced Proximity, Hate to Love, Opposites Attract, Fake Dating, Reformed Playboy
Thoughts: I loved this book!! I haven't loved a hockey romance like this is a long while and this book just made me so happy. Loved Saint and Lennon so much.
There was just something about the writing and these two that made me fall in love with them immediately. I was invested right from the beginning. How they met and their banter was perfect. Saint was that bad boy we all love and while he had is preconceived notions about Lennon, I adored how he fell for her as he figured out who she truly was. He helped her stand up for herself and how to be herself. The way he supported and protected her!! That man...swoon.
Really the character growth for both of them was fantastic. Saint also came to terms with a lot of things in his life and Lennon was a big help with that. They truly became friends and then fell hard. I loved how Saint realized he really is worthy of her. And I mean, their chemistry was also off the charts!! That penalty box scene! The pacing was perfect given their circumstances and the payoff was worth it.
Ugh I just loved them. Sometimes a book just works, even if you can't really explain why and this was that book for me. I can't wait for more in this series from Maren and this makes me want to finally go read her baseball romances series too!
This is hands down my favorite Maren Moore book!!!!
I was absorbed in from the first page! I absolutely love a tatted bad boy and Saint is perfection!! I love his no sh*t/ cocky attitude and the way him and Lennon argued and banter was my absolute favorite!!! Anytime they were on the ice together I was locked in lol 😆 Lennon is a spit fire behind all this “Golden Girl” persona and I really enjoyed seeing her personality grow! They were the definition of opposite attract and the tension throughout was soooooo good!!!
The locker room scene…EXCUSE ME… 🔥🔥🔥🔥

READ THIS BOOK!!!
Thank you Valentine PR and Maren for this ARC!! My absolute favorite book of hers! 😍🫶🏼✨
Lennon is fiery as fuck and I loved her so much. Saint with his broody fuck boy attitude was so much fun but to see that he’s a broken boy that just wants to be loved and watching him fall for Lennon was seriously the best time ever.
The chemistry with these two was so good. The edging that was happening to me from the tension and banter…Jesus Christ. So hot.
This was so much deeper than I thought it was going to be too and I loved seeing Lennon take control of her life and come into her own while we got to watch Saint overcome his revenge after falling head of hockey skates for Lennon.
A showing up in the rain scene can almost guarantee a 5 star from me. So no surprise. FIVE STARS. Loved this one so much!
Maren, miss MA'AM!!! This was so good and just what the mood reader in me needed!
Lennon is the picture perfect, "do as your told" daughter - always giving into her parents wishes. She's the "golden girl," who never does anything wrong. That is until her father oversteps a little too far this time, trying to insist she get back together with her cheating ex-boyfriend, all for the sake of "appearances and family alliances." But Lennon is tired of doing exactly as she's told. She's taking back her freedom and dang it feels good. And what better way to show her prim and proper parents she's had enough by dating the "bad boy" she knows they would absolutely loathe to see her with. Saint Devereaux is Orleans U notorious playboy. Arrogant, with a "give no sh*ts" attitude, he's the perfect person for Lennon to parade around her parents. The one problem? They can't stand each other.
OOOOWEEEE this was a delicious, tension, banter-filled spicy mamajama and I ate it up! Saint Devereaux has a MOUTH on him and an appetite to match (if you know what I mean lol). Because who doesn't love the tatted up, cocky, playboy hockey player who's down bad for the girl he wasn't supposed to fall for? Pair him with the fiery red head who can't stand him, and we've got ourselves some lovely tension filled moments leading up to their explosive chemistry.
Maren is one of those authors who's book you pick up and you just know you're guaranteed great sweet and spicy moments and a beautiful HEA. She doesn't disappoint.
Forever in my Orleans U era!!!
Thank you so much to Maren for my eARC!

Maren Moore sports romances are always top tier! Thank you to Valentine PR for this ARC 🫶🏻
Saint and Lennon had such a great loathe to love relationship! Saint is the bad boy hockey player that never settles down. Lennon is the v*rgin and former ice skater that gets under his skin! What starts as a banter filled fake romance between the rich girl and the boy from the other side of the tracks becomes so much deeper.
Lennon has always had to be perfect to please her family but when she asks Saint to fake date her, she has no idea they’ll fall in love. Saint wants revenge for his family, so he has other plans for this relationship. Ultimately he becomes soft only for her and falls hard! When he wears the ring around his neck, such a power move!
I can’t wait for more hellcats hockey from Maren! 🩷🏒
Thank you to Maren Moore and Valentine PR for an eARC copy of this book. Fake-dating, good girl/bad boy, enemies to lovers romance about a hockey player and an ice skater. I really enjoyed Saint and Lennon as characters, I thought they had great development alone and in their relationship with one another. Also no 3rd act breakup!!!
I have only one small complaint. While I love a nickname for a character, this one was so overused to the point that I started counting pages WITHOUT the nickname used, lol. But other than that a very fun spicy, but also sweet read!!
