Achtung, Dark Romance ab 18+ mit sehr triggernden Themen, also checkt bitte vorher die Triggerwarnings!
Ich weiß nicht wie ich meine Gedanken zu dem Buch ausdrücken soll, weiß auch gar nicht was ich erwartet habe. Das Buch ist definitiv Dark, sehr Dark sogar. An manchen Stellen ist mir echt schlecht geworden. Okay, an einigen Stellen. Sowohl ihre als auch seine Vorgeschichte sind übel. Ohne meinen Feminin Rage, hätte ich es nicht durch das Buch geschafft.
Ihre Entwicklung fand ich ja schon sehr interessant. Nicht unbedingt überraschend, weil ich „Scandal“ gesehen habe und da gibt es eine etwas ähnliche Entwicklung bei der weiblichen Prota. Dennoch, hat es mich auf eine wahrscheinlich doch sehr morbide Art fasziniert.
Sein Charakter wiederum war ein bisschen oberflächlich gehalten. Es sollte wahrscheinlich dieses düstere Image füttern, aber dennoch hätte ich mir im laufe der Geschichte mehr erhofft.
Ich dachte beim Lesen „Nach diesem Buch, lese ich nichts mehr von der Autorin. Das ist mir zu wild.“. Dann wurde aber ein Charakter zum Ende hin vorgestellt „Venom“ der mich gaaaanz schön neugierig gemacht hat… Also ja, wir schauen mal ob mein Kindle mich nochmal zurück zu ihr führen wird. Ausschließen würde ich es tatsächlich nicht.
Ob ich das Buch empfehlen würde? Schwierig zu sagen, das kommt ganz auf euch an. Es ist definitiv nichts für schwache Nerven! Lesen auf eigenen Gefahr. 🙈

I have now read this book 3 times, obviously I am OBSESSED!
This story has it's trigger warnings so please make sure you look them up before diving in.
The way this story capsulate you with the full emotion from Charlotte and the abuse she endures from her shitty boyfriend, the author is not shy with the details but being a DV victim myself this story really showcases the fear, the walking on eggshells, the defeat, the way you have to calculate your every future move in order to not be abused was really well written and to me not at all triggering from my own trauma.
This story is dual POV, Logan Arison is a true vigilante, after suffering the loss of his family due to his Father's poor decisions, he takes out his revenge/pain/suffering on the worst kind of individuals who are the most deserving of meeting his alter ego THE BONE REAPER. (my kind of man!!)
This slow burn is truly a slow burn, all the tension and banter (who doesn't love and eat up great banter) makes these moments with the main characters all the more delightful, dark play time with unique bedroom toys is very steamy and so satisfying if you enjoy the side of being a sadist!! (I did have to draw out the toy in mention, I am a very visual type reader :])
Venom, miss Kayla ma'am, you already know what you need to do next with my 2nd favorite man in this story, Venom needs his own book to shine even more, more venom moments is a necessity, thank you in advance.
This book releases January 16th 2025, highly recommend picking this up on release day and diving into the dark world of The Bone Reaper for the new year it is something quite special in my opinion.

I binged this book WAY past my bedtime. I love a strong plot with serial unalivers, and this was a refreshing and new take on that trope. I NEED to see more of Charlotte & Reaper’s story. These MC’s really did find their perfect match in each other and the banter and slow burn was perfection 👌
So much opportunity for a continuation (you know…with that other intriguing Southern charm unaliver that was mentioned🐍?).
Loved Kayla Marie’s writing style and I’ll happily read anything she releases.

A sweeter romance than I was expecting going in, with dark themes of course.
Slow burn relationship wise but the connection was immediate. Reaper and Charlotte make such a perfect pair.
I saw the twist coming in a way but it still had an extra surprise I didn’t see coming as clearly.
The epilogue which was in my favorite side character’s perspective makes me think there’ll be another book following them and I want it now!
I received an early copy and this is my honest review.

What a delicious & dark slow burn. From the masked MMC to the serial “unalivers” I don’t know where to start. If you aren’t afraid of a long list of triggers & enjoy a dark story, add this to your tbr!!!!!!

The premise was fun and the potential was there but.. the execution very much was not.
There was almost nothing original about this book, and even in its unoriginality, I was bored.
Dialogue: cheesy
Main characters: annoying and one-dimensional
Plot: moved forward at warp speed with zero time for tension to build
I got hooked in because of the art at the beginning of the book (freakin gorgeous, that's for sure), but at no point afterward was I invested. This became part spite-read, part "I feel guilty for bringing this book to the attention of my friend so I guess let's finish it together" read. And now here we are.
At least Venom was interesting, I might consider picking up his book.

This was a fun ride of a dark romance! A bit Butcher and Blackburn with the vibes, as we get some devlish laced humor, violence and blooming love amongst two people who's tastes run towards the unaliving of evil doers.
The way they meet sets up Charlotte's proclivities towards darkness. It's also a nice twist that she meets the professional k1illing mercenary, Reaper, in this way. Him taking her under his wing and them living with one another works well within the narrative. They have instant chemistry, albeit he's still quite reluctant and a bit socially awkward. He's closed off and fearful to love, whereas Charlotte becomes quickly smitten, intrigued and fascinated by her brutally capable and s3xy new roomie.
It still manages to be a slow burn effectively, even though it's a pretty brisk read but it's no less impactful! They just vibe so well! The final act is an exhilarating showdown finale (it's graphic and I loved it). Reaper is merciless to protect who he loves; a precise, combat ready warrior. I really enjoyed these two and I'm especially intrigued by a certain Venomous side character...and I'm betting we may see him get his own book?? Wink 😉 His sardonic wit was just intoxicating, part Damon Salvatore and part Dexter. He and Reaper are truly forces to be wreckened with!

This was my first read from Kayla and I’m so happy to have been chosen as an arc reader for The Bone Reaper. I loved all the characters in this story the fmc charlotte was a victim of dv by her jerk a$$hole boyfriend. Her best friend lily decided to intervene and reach out for help to The Bone Reaper. The Reaper takes out anyone that abuses women or children. When he reads lily’s email about her best friend charlotte his interest is piqued. Unfortunately for reaper, charlotte had already taken care of the problem lol The banter between these two characters was great! There were some moments that made me laugh. I loved reaper! And charlotte was such a baddie ❤️😍 but if I’m being honest there was one character who stole the story and that was Vemon!! I’m gonna need a book with him asap!!! 😂😉 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🫶

This is a story of survival and finding your people and loyalty. This is dark there is some dv that happens on page so make sure to check your triggers. I hope Marcus/venom is getting his story too because he has captured my interest thoroughly. I cant wait to read more from Kayla.

Ooh okay okay. This was awesome! A FMC who finds herself with her revenge. An MMC who is tormented and finds his heart again. Ah so cute and bloody. I love it all. Also made me want to have bo e decorations around. My favorite quote was "I have the power to break bones. She has the power to break everything I am." 🥰 I also can't wait for more from Venom!

Charlotte’s sass and sarcasm was perfectly executed . Sarcasm can so easily lean into cruelty, but here it was clever and entertaining. Reaper’s boundaries, and the way he respected hers, made me love him even more. I also appreciated that we got to know exactly what he did without being drowned in gratuitous gore.
The romance was an earned slow burn. The spice didn't become repetitive or the sole focus once introduced. This story was about Charlotte and Reaper shedding the shells of who they used to be and become stronger together.
I was obsessed from the beginning, but the moment Venom stepped onto the page I was screaming. His book cannot get here fast enough. Totally recommend.

Holy hell. That's it. That's the whole review. No but for real, holy hell. I freaking loved this book. A massive anti hero who stands up for women in bad situations but also loves his choccy milk? I'm sorry, what? Oh my god, I legit am obsessed with this couple cause yas bitch, you fucking did that shit. *insert Sticky by Tyler the Creator here* I cannot wait for this one to hit y'all because Reaper (also Marcus? I mean come on) and Charly are a legit dream team.

i ate this up in one sitting.. reaper and charlotte have my whole heart 🥺 they are the epitome of right person x right time. they found each other when they needed it the most. charly is so special to me because after everything she went through she kept fighting and brought the light back into her life and into reaper’s life i love them so much ❤️

The crazy part is that this book started off so strong. I was literally recommending it to people halfway through because it had me hooked. The dynamic between the Reaper and Charlotte was everything at first. I loved how they clicked right away, not because of some forced trope, but because their personalities actually aligned. Charlotte’s darker edge mirrored his perfectly, and that’s what made their connection feel real. When she told him she wanted to train with him in his craft, it made total sense. From there, watching their relationship develop was genuinely fun. Charlotte had that sunshine energy that balanced out his cold, standoffish vibe. It took time for him to open up, but when he did, their semi-friendship and growing tension felt natural. The scene where he made her the art room in his home? Perfect. That was peak emotional payoff.
But then came the competition, the France trip, and everything started to slide downhill. The tone shifted, the dialogue lost its spark, and once the plot circled back to her ex and the whole semi-kidnapping subplot to get to the Reaper—it completely lost me. It just felt like a different book. The twist didn’t hit, the writing didn’t sell the stakes, and I went from loving it to feeling checked out.

The crazy part is that this book started off so strong. I was literally recommending it to people halfway through because it had me hooked. The dynamic between the Reaper and Charlotte was everything at first. I loved how they clicked right away, not because of some forced trope, but because their personalities actually aligned. Charlotte’s darker edge mirrored his perfectly, and that’s what made their connection feel real. When she told him she wanted to train with him in his craft, it made total sense. From there, watching their relationship develop was genuinely fun. Charlotte had that sunshine energy that balanced out his cold, standoffish vibe. It took time for him to open up, but when he did, their semi-friendship and growing tension felt natural. The scene where he made her the art room in his home? Perfect. That was peak emotional payoff.
But then came the competition, the France trip, and everything started to slide downhill. The tone shifted, the dialogue lost its spark, and once the plot circled back to her ex and the whole semi-kidnapping subplot to get to the Reaper—it completely lost me. It just felt like a different book. The twist didn’t hit, the writing didn’t sell the stakes, and I went from loving it to feeling checked out.

The Bone Reaper far exceeded any expectations I may have had with its promise of revenge and serial killer antics in the blurb.
You know a book is going to grip you emotionally when you tear up with the prologue alone. I was absolutely shedding tears within that first glimpse.
This was a difficult read for me during the beginning as someone who has survived an unhealthy dynamic with a romantic partner that too turned physically violent, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE mind the trigger warnings within this book.
This is a dark, contemporary slow-burn romance which I adore because I eat up all that delicious sexual tension and teasing like the gremlin that I am. But when that “f*ck it” moment hits, it is ON POINT from that moment on. Dark and sexy moments with some questionable bedroom… “toys” and practices is absolutely prevalent. haha
There is also plenty of violence and gore to satisfy the inner sadist (demon) in all of us that balances with the sweet moments between Reaper and Charlotte - which I will admit to some moments being a tad cringeworthy over others. Yeah, imagine romance considered as cringe but upon further reflection, I understand the need for it once Charlotte started to heal from her trauma.
And don’t even get me started on the side character we get introduced to. *fans myself with my hand* Me thinks we are getting a second book or at least, I will be keeping my fingers crossed that we do. I NEED THIS MAN’S STORY, Kayla! lol

My first book by this author and I am not disappointed. This book is nothing you can expect tho, yes it is dark but also our MMC is “sweet” but also “mean” i don’t know how to explain it hehehe. At the time of this review, it's just January 2025 & yet ALREADY THIS BOOK IS MY FAVORITE of this year, so it's going to take some serious book to replace this one for me. Author Kayla is a new to me author & I can't wait to read more from her. If you love books that come right out the gate running with action then this book is for you cause it don't start slow but it does start with some v!olence SO PROCEED WITH CAUTION & DON'T FORGET THOSE WARNINGS. 💥This book does deal with domestic abuse (NOT BETWEEN THE MAIN CHARACTERS THOUGH)💥 but all works out in the best way eventually 😈. The Bone Reaper became the reaper after the ordeal he had to endure when he was younger & because of that he now helps those who need a special helping hand from monsters that prey on the innocent. Charlotte is just.... I was wishing I could reach in the book & just hug her with the crap she had to deal with, but eventually her path finally crosses with the Bone Reaper and things slowly get better for her & she's able to heal & build her self up & come back stronger than before in away like no other. THIS BOOK WAS EVERYTHING FOR ME & I DID NOT WANT IT TO END. SUCH AN AMAZING READ.

This is a shorter read but it's giving ✨️everything✨️. Fluid writing, a good old banter, instant connection BUT still a slow burn, characters dealing with their trauma, excellent spice due to all the tension and BONE DECOR!! Am I jealous of his bone collection? Absolutely. Also the bone whips? Need those.

This was a GREAT read by Kayla Marie. This story was a dark romance, toxic relationship, masked stalker, touch her and. The Fmc, Charlotte is in an abusive relationship with her boyfriend Jason. The Bone Reaper is given a mission to complete, a cry for help from one of her friends. This book was pretty dark, please make sure you read the tw's.

I really enjoyed this book so much! The author, Kayla, has proven her talent and her creativity when it comes to writing a great story.
The story line was so well thought out and the characters were so interesting together and separately that I fell in love with both of them.
To top it all off, we are introduced to an anti-hero of sorts who quickly became one of my favorite characters and I was left wanting to know more about him…which I think we will get in the future. I will be waiting on that!
All in all, it was the perfect balance of love, friendship, action, trauma, vengeance and spice 🔥🔥🔥

I'm not usually one for a slow burn (too impatient!), but the author did it just perfectly. The slow build, the banter, the lingering looks, and touches between Reaper and Charlotte were just pure delicious perfection!
