Carnival is just around the corner, so New Orleans is enjoying the last gasps of the off-season. It should be a quiet time in the French Quarter, but nothing is ever truly quiet on Bourbon Street. When a man and woman walking home from dinner are attacked by a monster, Zach Sully and Ofelia Archer are called to the scene. The man is dead, killed in an instant, and the woman is shaken. She also happens to be Sully’s ex-girlfriend. As Ofelia looks into things—monsters are her specialty after all—disturbing stories start to emerge. People who look like humans but have shadows that resemble spiders are taking over the Quarter…and they’re not friendly. The deeper Ofelia and Sully dig, the weirder things get. It seems the spider people were here before, only to disappear in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. What did they want then? Ofelia. What do they want now? It seems she’s still at the top of the list. Sully’s past is chasing him and his future is in danger. He’ll do whatever it takes to keep Ofelia safe. There’s just one little problem. The spiders are willing to use him to get to Ofelia. He’ll be the sacrifice spun in their web. It’s all hands on deck for another massive showdown. Who will come out victorious? There’s only one way to find out.
Another great entry but I am getting a bit tired of the villains they are facing. They are always extremely creepy with unusual.powers but!!!!!!! Once Ofelia becomes aware of their existence they never last very long and despite the dramatic conversations are always easily dealt with which does take some of th drama and excitement out of the story. Otherwise it's great, I love the interaction between Olivia and her family, Felix is.wonderful and I wish he had a larger role in the stories same is true of her mum and dad, some of the support g characters like Pascal and Angelique I would also like to see better represented, Ofelia only ever visits them when she needs something it would be nice to see a story where say somebody/thing from Pascals last came back for vengeance......know what I mean? Anyway it's still.a good way to.loose yourself for a few hours so on to wait for the next one...........
“‘You’re going to burn her to death.’ ‘By whatever means necessary,’ Ofelia repeated. ‘I don’t know how to kill her. I’ll use my magic if I can. I might need Pascal to rip her head off. I’m not sure how it will go.’”
So casually stated. “I might need Pascal to rip her head off.” 😂
If you have a fear of spiders you probably won’t care much for this book, but it’s worth reading when there’s paranormal coolness involved. Besides, the spidees (spinners) are all handled eventually.
This was great! Lots of action and at the final showdown I had goosebumps! Of course the good guys win again.
Next on my To Read list is book 1 in a series by Hope Callaghan I marked in GoodReads as Want to Read nearly 3 years ago, so it’s due time I got started. It is “Looking Glass Cottage” from Callaghan’s Easton Island Family Saga series. I’ve read at least three other series by this author and loved them all. They aren’t paranormal… well, except one series there are angels, but if you’re looking for something paranormal Callaghan’s don’t have it. But they’re worth reading. 😁
See you in my next review. Deuces to your cabooses! ✨✌🏼✨
"Hail, hail, The gang's all here!" The spinners were a fun addition to the paranormal mix, and the legend of Katrina. Hart's imagination has come up with another new twist. I don't know how she keeps doing it. I like the occasional gathering of allies, although I also love it when He can whip out her magick. I sort of missed that their heroism was all internal this time. It's hard to believe how much they crammed into one year. I'd have loved to see how Hart would have worked the Pandemic into the supernatural cycle, but that won't happen now. How many books does she plan ahead?!
Ophelia and Sully are one of my most favorite couples! I love how supportive they are of one another and how well they work together, not only as a couple, but as a team as well. I have really enjoyed how Oscar's character has come so far with his mental health and is taking responsibility, as he should. Every time I read a book in this series, it really makes me want to visit New Orleans. As always, I loved the story and the creativity of the different characters. Can't wait for the next book in this series.
I always enjoy a Fe and Sully book and this one is top notch! Interesting story, fun interaction with our favorite characters including Pascal, Oscar, Jack and Angelique. Looking forward to the next book. Highly recommend the entire series. While this book could be read standalone, you’ll enjoy the character interactions more if you start at the beginning.
This story had romance, some action, a mystery, suspense and true love! The main characters have been developed over the series which is why I suggest reading the series starting at book 1. I felt like I was a fly on the wall and could vividly see the new bar. The new characters in this book were very well developed. I loved this book and highly recommend it.
Yet another exciting book about Ophelia and Sully fighting monsters in New Orleans. This time it's spider people. Throwing an ex girlfriend of Sully's gives an interesting twist to the story and pulling in the rest of the paranormal residents really helps to flesh out the story. Great reading.
This one was a great read. The paranormal community gets bigger and bigger. Spider people is a new one that I didn't see coming. And I am not INE of those people who like spiders. I know they help regulate other more pesky bugs. Its all those legs and eyes. So spider people, um ok! On to the next adventure!!💙💚😉
Lily as usual you’re storytelling is riveting Fe and Sully do it again to save New Orlean’s with plenty of help from their trusted friends. I really luv Pascal’s character strong and silent until he’s not protecting Fe is his priority. You will be enthralled by this story line.
In the sultry, shadow-drenched labyrinth of New Orleans, Skully and Ophelia find themselves entangled in yet another web of supernatural shenanigans—quite literally, thanks to the city's oversized arachnid inhabitants. The French Quarter trembles with anticipation as our intrepid duo unravels mysteries more twisted than the wrought-iron balconies overhead.
I was overjoyed when I saw a new book was being released. This has been one of my favorite series. This book was wonderful and a little creepy. I may have nightmares. But it was so good. I loved the story and the characters. Definitely recommend reading.
Book 17 takes p!ace just before Carnival in New Orleans. There are strange deaths, strange sightings, murder, mystery, danger, and magic. Paranormals come together to overcome this new danger. Highly entertaining.
Literally 5 pages after saying the bad thing did not impact shifters, Zach (Sully - who is a panther shifter) gets infected by the bad thing.
There is a throwaway comment that he’s a “mutt” (implying not all shifters) but not clarified or mentioned. The last 20% just is sad after that huge plot hole.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I love Ofelia and Sully they are the dream team. They have grown so much and are so entertaining. I can’t wait to see what they get into next. Loved it
I've read all of the books in this series and was looking forward to this one too. However I didn't think it was up to the author's usual standards. I didn't like the spiders story line at all. The best part was Pascal and Ofelia's relationship.
I usually like this series but there were a couple pretty major editing issues that impacted the entire "resolution". A previous reviewer remarked on the biggest one. No spoilers, but it was frustrating. I will continue with the series.
The plot lines are interesting and suspenseful. Amazing how MS Hart thinks of this stuff. The characters are fun and relatable. Can't wait for the next. Happy Oscar is doing well.
Yes, another great book in the series. Like the other book this one too keeps you pulled in. I couldn’t put it down. I will not spoil it for you, you’re going to have to read it yourself. It’s worth the time!
Ofelia and Sully are hearing rumors of people with spider shadows. Sully's ex is a witness to a murder. Another mystery is to be solved before spiders take over the city. Great read and series. No cliffhanger and hea.
I love Ms. Hart's stories! Out of all the different books I read she is my favorite author. She has a fun sense of humor that she writes interesting mysteries around. You won't be sorry to buy any of her books.
People who cast shadows as spiders have been killing people lately. First Ofelia and Sully have to figure out what they are, where they came from, and how to stop them.
I enjoyed every book I love the characters and the setting. Visited New Orleans once, loved it. Plan to visit some of the places mentioned in the book in future.
This story was quite interesting with the usual quirky suspects, even if some aspects were kind of predictable for me, Lizzie for example was clear from the first chapter she came up in. But I enjoyed the story and the solution as well. 5 stars for a entertaining book, just how I like it.
This captivating series has completely drawn me in, leaving me eagerly anticipating each new installment. The storytelling is so compelling that my only frustration is the inevitable wait between books, as I'm always hungry for the next chapter in this incredible narrative.
I love Fe and Scully. They are so sweet together and the adventures sure do find them. Lily always manages to create amazing communities and characters.
Fantastic read! This took a turn i wasn't expecting and it took me aback but it turned out to be an integral part of the story. We also learned quite a bit about what happened pre Katrina.
