Weed is a courageous little dog who believes he`s the son of the legendary Boss Dog, Ginga. After his mother dies, Weed begins an adventurous journey to find his father in the Ohu Mountains. Accompanied by the cowardly, but kind-hearted GB, and meeting other dogs along the way, Weed`s journey is a long and hard one...
Known widely for "Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin" and "Ginga Densetsu Weed," Yoshihiro Takahashi is a manga-ka (Manga artist). He seems to like drawing dogs (particularly Akita Inu) in his mangas, and they are often both the protagonists and the antagonists. GNG (Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin) was created 1984, followed by its sequel, GDW (Ginga Densetsu Weed) in 1999. A prequel for both was created in 2000, GDR (Ginga Densetsu RIKI). He also writes many short stories, most about animals.
This series only had 3 volumes published in English and now they're out of print, so I got these through Interlibrary Loan. This volume is EMOTIONAL. Some of the first big plot points revolve around the different ideologies of strays VS pets and the emotional trauma from a mother's pups being given away. Being told primarily from a dog's POV really adds some weight to these everyday scenarios. The biggest thing that jumped out to me, however, is how COURAGEOUS Weed is! Weed's determination to do the right thing at any cost fired me up!
I love the adorable doggy art in this manga. Weed is a stray dog, the son of Gin from the previous manga, starts his journey to find his father. On the way he meets lots of other dogs and he wants to help them. However helping can get you into dangerous situations!
I loved the art, the way the dogs see the world and the feel good factor of this manga, but the story overall didn't really grab me.
