Yes, Mr. King (A Billionaire Revenge Romance)

Rate this book
Book 1 in the Revenge & Riches Series

MR. KING

I had everything—a talent empire, the respect of my employees, and a fiancée straight off the cover of Vogue Magazine—until the day my rival took it all away from me. He screwed me out of half the company and stole my girl too.

I needed revenge. I needed…her. The jilted wife of my rival who was broken like me.

I just never expected one fiery unforgettable afternoon with her would change everything. We didn’t just become allies, but accomplices, bound by our mutual thirst for revenge.

But as our plan unfolds and our chemistry grows, the lines between vengeance and genuine affection are blurring. Cara and I are on the brink of something powerful.

I just don’t know if it’s our betrayal and desire colliding, or the real deal.

CARA

My marriage wasn’t perfect, but I never suspected my husband would walk out and leave me to restart my life in my thirties with zero money, an empty resume, and way more insecurities than before I met him. Especially once I found out he left me for his boss’s much younger fiancée.

I felt betrayed. Humiliated. And so, so angry.

Until I accidentally found comfort in the arms of my cruel ex’s smoking hot billionaire boss, Mr. King.

I didn’t go to his apartment intending to sleep with him—mind-blowing boundaries were definitely crossed—but nothing quite prepared me for the job offer he made me. One that will help me get my life back on track and make my ex’s life a living hell.

5 deliciously soapy stars!

My (33F) husband (37M) blindsided me with divorce papers after 15 years together. I supported him when we had nothing and, after a huge promotion at work, he left me homeless with zero job prospects. What’s worse, he moved his boss’s fiancee (25F) in. His boss (38M) has asked me to help him get revenge… but I just want to lick him all over. TDLR: WIBTA if I sleep with my ex’s boss?

Whenever I read something like that, I want to scream “Yes! Get with the hot (billionaire) boss and ruin the ex’s life!”, and this book really spoke to that part of me. 🤣🤣🤣

I loved this random KU download! Soapy premise but the writing was very engaging, both characters (Cara and Ethan) were likeable, and surprisingly their actions weren’t that OTT. Cara was downtrodden but I liked her spirit, and Ethan was, dare I say it, kind of a green flag. They had great chemistry and the smutty bits were 🥵. The ex was the shittiest one I’ve read in a long time, but revenge is a big part of the story, so ✅✅✅!

I did want a longer epilogue/conclusion, but can understand why it ended where it did as it leads into the next book (different main characters) which is already on my TBR. There were also a couple of plot points I didn’t love, but they didn’t detract from the sheer enjoyment I got from this revenge romance.

CW: abusive relationships, pregnancy/pregnancy loss, and SA are discussed and/or alluded to.

I ended up liking this book much more than I thought I would. I loved the revenge angle and the fact that the MC's are a bit older helps a lot. The spicy scenes were great! I loved how the relationship between Cara and Ethan progressed. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Overall the book was good. I wasn't a huge fan how long Ethan was thinking about how much he loved Samantha, considering even Cara wasn't so bent out shape over her actual husband leaving her. Also it was bit annoying there was no resolution with what happened with Ethan's brother.

The FMC husband leaves her after 15 years of marriage for a younger woman. But the twist is the woman is the MMC’s fiancé. Revenge plot begins! The FMC and MMC are victims of instalust and this book is very spicy.

This whole book takes place over 2 weeks or so and it is honestly way too fast for them to fall in love. I didn’t buy into their love but I was very entertained.

A very engaging book. The interaction between the MCs really makes the reader feel the relationship. Intellectually, the fact the book only takes place over about a month makes it seem unbelievable. But emotionally it works. I really felt the affection grow between these two.
I love the title and how it was used in the book
My only complaint is the loose thread at the end. I see there is a 2nd book which will probably handle it, but it's a strange thread to leave dangling.
I do recommend this book.

Amazing! I’m completely hooked!

I absolutely love Sierra Prynne as an author in general. So reading this romance book was a no brainer! Very well written and the banter between the MMC and the FMC was great and gave me all the giggles. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next one!!

Cara and Ethan

Both characters are complex, multi-faceted and very well written. Dual POV, some angst, there’s OW and OM drama since the main characters were in previous but recent relationships before getting together. Cara is a pleaser with serious self esteem issues, and possibly body dysmorphia with the way she’s so critical about her body. She has trust issues. I loved her growth and her evolution into a more confident and successful woman. Ethan’s got his own secrets but overall he’s a good rich guy who wants Cara and all the good things in life for her.

These two are perfect for each other and deserve their HEA. The plot was well paced until the end, and then it felt rushed. Still some questions in the end about Ethan’s brother’s role in the company and what happens after the new year. I’m hoping there’s a book that’ll answer all that. But if not, this is still a worthwhile read.

I loved this. Loved it a lot. & the main reason is bc the author wrote Cara’s praise kink as an extension of her personality not just an in the bedroom thing. She wrote it like a love language. & it was glorious

It was for me, romance done well

3.5 rounded up to 4 stars

First time author for me and I am pleasantly surprised by the execution of this book. In a world filled with OTT possessive alpha males and simpering damsels in distress (and I am completely guilty of devouring those but a girl needs variety at times) this book was a breath of fresh air. Not only was it refreshing to read about MCs who are in their mid to late 30s, but especially those that behave according to their age. Also reading about an MMC who is vulnerable and doubts himself at times, makes them more human.

Cara the FMC was beautifully characterized. She's broken, not just by her cheating ex but by her guardian all through her childhood. But she has never given up and is constantly trying to better herself. All she is looking for is acknowledgement of her effort and support, which she hasn't gotten until the MMC enters her life. It was beautiful to see her come into her own and start to trust him. Of course it doesn't happen overnight and that was the beauty of it.

Ethan the MMC was a total breath of fresh air. He is confident and assertive but not an asshole. Whenever I've read any billionaire romance, I've rarely come across MMCs who are aware of their fallibility, those that don't think they are the shit just because they can throw money at any problem. Ethan is the exact opposite of that, while he is confident in what he has achieved, does throw money around to impress is lady, he is also aware that it can all be gone in the blink of an eye. And he continues to work hard to hold on to what he has achieved. I think I loved him a little more because of the way he interacted with all the lower staff - cleaning personnel, his driver, building security - he treated them as humans deserving of respect and I can't remember a billionaire book where this aspect was present.
His love for Cara was adorable to witness, he is such a green flag in that aspect. The way he thinks about each and every aspect of her wellbeing, even when he is going through difficult times was so well done. The way he second-guesses his actions based on her responses was adorable too. I didn't realize how quick their relationship developed until the FMC references it towards the end of the book but it was totally believable.

Now onto the cons, I can't really put my fingers on to one thing and say this was what made the book be less than 5 stars but it's there. The short chapter lengths got irritating after a while. There was no need to cut a different chapter just because the POV shifted but we are in the same scene. I would also have liked a bit more insight into each of the MCs lives. Although a lot is told, nothing is shown and it felt like you as the reader just had bits and pieces instead of a picture, if not the whole set of pictures as I would have preferred. The prose got a little too verbose at times, especially with the inner thoughts/monologues. But I am still interested in continuing the series and want to see what Nero is up to and why.

This was a pretty good book. We open with Cara having been dumped by her husband of 15 years with nothing left to her name because she signed a prenup. We also meet Ethan, an founder and owner of a company that Cara's husband somehow managed to buy half of, giving him as much control as Ethan. Cara's ex also happened to "steal" Ethan's fiancé from him. Ethan contacts Cara so they can plan their revenge on the two. Ethan and Cara hook up with one another pretty quickly which might seem weird but neither of them had been intimate with their previous partners for a long time before the breakups. The plan they come up with involves ruining Troy professionally as well as his reputation.

Their enactment of the revenge is pretty smart and I was really entertained by what Cara did to Ethan's ex's clothes. It was smart yet effective, which really demonstrated Cara's intelligence. We also find out that Cara really was the one behind any of Troy's successes which she proves by going to work at the firm with Ethan. I really liked that Ethan was the one to recognize his feelings for Cara first, yet he was willing to be patient and not pressure Cara.

This book could have really gone off the rails with the revenge plot and actions, and there was some of that but eventually the MC's realize they don't want to stoop down to the level of Troy and Samantha. Which I loved that Cara and Ethan called them Trash and Salmon, that was too funny. By the end of the book everyone got what was coming to them. I will say though that the author's use of pfft to be read like a sound effect was just weird. It felt a little like fourth wall breaking and I don't love that in books. The other issue I had was the really short chapters. They were only a few pages, and there are 77 chapters in a 434-page book. That's a lot of switching perspectives with quick chapters.

No third act breakup

4/5 on the Spicy Scale

M/F

Past miscarriages

Verbal/Emotional abuse of FMC, not by MMC

Cara and Ethan's story was a really good read! These two characters worked so well together throughout the whole plotline of this story and in every twist and turn it took them. This book has the mystery, the spice, the drama and some humor.

Cara is, I think, a more complex character that has very low self esteem due to her ex, Troy (Trash) but she's built up her confidence beautifully through the story. Cara works with Ethan to exact revenge on is ex, Samantha (Salmon) who cheated on him with Troy. Ethan is the first to really realize he has feelings for Cara and is smart enough to only take what she is willing to give.

Ethan, to me was an amazing character, maybe close to a perfect BBF. He treated Cara quite well throughout the story. He told her how he saw her and he showed her what she was capable of. He had an agenda but he didn't treat her disrespectfully. I liked how they both kept their integrity throughout the turmoil and revenge.

Some parts of this were quick--like their first time was so soon, I thought; then ending I wish was a bit longer and some things explained or given closure. I thought it was strange that they called each other by Mr. King or Ms. Miramontes for most of the book instead of their first names. Maybe I missed something? I'd also have liked to see the divorce outcome (maybe in the next book?)

I liked that Troy got what he deserved but also wished Samantha got more than she did. I can't wait to read the next book! This was a fun read for me.

annoying main character

This is definitely another 3.5/4 star read for me. I’m only giving it four stars because the author is an excellent writer and I’m thinking about reading the next book in this series. The only reason why this is not a five star read for me is that the main character is highly annoying. The female lead has way too much self doubt that it made my teeth grind. And if this is supposed to be a revenge romance, I kind of wanted to see more of the revenge and less of the long drawn out scenes that added nothing to the plot. Perhaps if the character was more confident, the scenes wouldn’t have been so annoying. And what’s up with the ending? We find out who was the mastermind behind the stealing of the company but don’t get anything else. I don’t know… Definitely a good read if you’re looking for the self discovery/woman gaining more confidence type of read. I was kind of looking for the angry woman/scorched earth, kind of read. Seriously the author is talented. I think the reason why it’s not a fight for me is definitely preference to strong characters.

I don't normally read contemporary romance--I'm a fantasy guy mostly--but I've read this author's other fantasy stuff and liked it so much I thought I'd give this a read. I was not disappointed in the slightest. This was honestly great. There was great tension, great stakes. I liked both of the main characters a lot, especially together. It's a bite-sized story, but that was fine. I was caught up in it anyway and Prynne made me root for them, just like she does all of her characters, no matter what they're going through.

Like I said, contemporary romance isn't normally my jam, but I'm rethinking that now. I saw in one of her newsletters that she'll be expanding the types of romance she writes and since I'm pretty hooked now to read anything she writes, I can't wait. I also can't wait for the companion book to this one.

Enjoyable, but predictable.

I want to know this, if FL's best friends are so damn close as they say they are, why the hell did they not try to help the FL see what an ass her husband was? Fifteen friggin years! FIFTEEN! How do you let your bestie live abused like that for that length of time? Clearly they should have seen signs of him gaslighting her. Also, how would they not know how sick she was when she was pregnant? Too many holes to ignore.

Worst thing about this book, the issue with the ML's brother NEVER got resolved. Maybe it will in another book, but this book is not a HEA, it's a HFN, and not even a satisfying ending. Kinda disappointed.

Oh, another thing, FL never got a divorce? Like wtf was even the point of bringing in such a big bad lawyer if she was only going to be used in one small scene and mentioned in passing? Pointless!

This was a bit drawn out, but an otherwise good read! The only thing I had problem with was her ex Troy. Why did he drug the woman during pregnancy when he claimed he wanted kids? Why did he get in with Ethan's brother, guess I just needed more closure on why he and Sam did what they did and with each other etc. it seemed like the little closure we got on Troy was a last minute thought and rushed. Then we get nothing on him or Sam in the epilogue. Some of the revenge was pretty cute, I loved Ethan and his thoughts and protective nature towards Cara. Once she got encouragement from the right people (Ethan, her friends and a few agents towards end) she started sticking up for herself in her thoughts and actions!

This book was really good! I went into it not having any expectations, and I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of character in such a short and spicy book.

If you like a revenge plot featuring a super hot, rich and caring MMC paired with an FMC who has taken some hits from her douchebag ex but is slowly reclaiming her self-confidence, then strap in, this book is for you.

You’ll also love this if you want to see a total fucking prick get taken down.

And finally, if you enjoy boss/employee stories with a nice helping of hot chemistry, and a side of super smitten Man, get yourself this sexy book!

Oh this was a delight! Cara and Ethan (the titular Mr. King) have both been betrayed by the same person--Cara's soon-to-be ex-husband--they join forces to get revenge, and fall in love along the way. I LOVE a good revenge plot, and this one crackles. Mr King is almost immediately smitten and all in, but Cara takes a little longer to get there. The baddies are sufficiently slimy, and the comeuppance is satisfying. Lots of fun!

Second chance/Revenge/Makeover Trope

I like a good second chance, revenge, makeover story. I didn't quite get some of the issues, like Ethan saying he wasn't sure he would tell Cara what he found out about Troy--wasn't that the whole premise of the book? And conversely why Cara got so upset that he didn't tell her--he'd literally just found out. Their relationship seemed more like a rebound, but it works.

Um...how did Ms Prynne create my new MMC obsession with this much spice, this much strength, this much devotion? Reading this book put me in someone else's shoes AND made me want to BE in someone else's shoes, just to have Mr. King. And the fact that the next book features his hot convict brother in a MFM romance? Stop, I can only pant so hard!

Book was too long when the pages barely covered 2 weeks or something.
Hero went from being heartbroken because he lost "the love of his life" to being involved with the heroine in HOURS.
I don't like how the OW was kinda redeemed at the end. She was still a bitch and was apparently on board to get the hero's company without feeling any guilt. And she hurt him deliberately.

I liked the first half of the book a lot and if it continued in that direction it would have been 5 stars easy. But the second half is rushed, as is the timeline in the book, it seems wildly unreal, basicaly like someone else wrote the second part. It is a pitty because I was happy to learn there is a book No2 (as No1 ends on a clifhanger), but now I am not sure I want it at all.

Weak to Strong

It is wonderful to see a woman recover and thrive after her ex leaves in epic form.

It may have started out as a revenge plot but they definitely come out way better thanks to their exs.

I really enjoyed this book. Hot and spicy. I was disappointed with the abrupt ending that left me with questions. I thought maybe it was a cliffhanger but didn't see any titles to a second book. So I guess I'll never know what happened.

Eh, the pace was bit weird but overall entertaining. I’m actually more interested in reading MC’s brother book tbh

Plot was okay. The drama wasn’t there tbh, mostly cause I felt that we get to know both MCs in a superficial surface level, rather than deeply.

I liked the story overall, but I just can't get over how fast everything happens. The whole book takes place over 3-ish weeks, and one of those weeks is just the epilogue. It's a little too insta-lovey for me.
