Rate this book
The Protein Advantage Cookbook is the new template for low-carb eating, filled with the latest science and 100 recipes to help you meet your weight loss, body composition, and health goals.

Authored by best-selling cookbook author, Carolyn Ketchum
The Protein Advantage Cookbook includes step-by-step recipes with full-color photos, the latest research on high-protein, low-carbohydrate eating, and tips and tricks for building your high-protein, low-carbohydrate pantry.

For years, we’ve followed the traditional ketogenic diet high fat, moderate protein, and very low carbs. And it worked—individuals saw the benefits of shifting from being sugar burners to fat burners. However, new science is showing that a low carbohydrate diet with higher protein ratios burns more stored fat and preserves and builds more lean muscle tissue. Recent research also suggests that a large percentage of adults are not consuming enough protein to maintain healthy bodies into middle age and beyond. And numerous experts agree that the RDA or protein for adults over age 50 is too low. High protein, low-carb diets are no longer the purview of body builders and athletes. It is a vital requirement for our health and longevity.

Liked her info about high protein, but her recipes did not inspire me... didn't try any

I borrowed this cookbook in ebook format from the library. Not every recipe had a photo. I was more disappointed that a lot of the recipes used protein powders and granular sweeteners. I'm looking for ways to eat more protein without artificial supplements or ingredients. These recipes might work for some; they appeared to be easy to follow.

I don’t know why anyone would subject themselves to such dismal recipes. Have people totally lost their tastebuds? The author failed to achieve her goal of making dishes as good as the ones she is imitating. The only recipes that might be worth trying are a few of the salads. The best bets would be the turkey club salad, the anemic looking blackened chicken salad and the Greek chicken salad. And cottage cheese isn’t going to make the desserts taste better. Credit for providing photos of 2/3rds of the recipes, further proving that most of these are not going to be satisfying.

My Review
: High-protein eating is what turned on my latent gout decades ago. There are squads and fleets of people who need to lose weight for a variety of reasons, whose health will be improved by eating a lot more protein than carbohydrates.

The recipes in this book are simple, easy to follow, and I'll assume very well designed to improve protein deficient dieters' health.

It's obvious the book was designed with tablet-users in mind. It's a very easy to scan and understand design. It's a very well thought out guide to making your transition into a protein-heavy diet.

Low-Carb That Feels Fresh, Doable, and Delicious

I’ve been eating low-carb for years, and lately I’ve noticed a big shift toward a higher-protein approach — and I’m all for it. The Protein Advantage Cookbook feels like it was made for this moment. Carolyn Ketchum does such a great job explaining why protein matters (beyond just weight loss) and making it feel simple, not overwhelming.

What I love most is how approachable it is. The recipes aren’t fussy or overcomplicated — just real, flavorful food you can make any night of the week. There’s plenty of variety, with satisfying dinners, tasty sides, and even desserts that still fit the plan.

This isn’t just another low-carb cookbook — it’s a fresh take on eating in a way that fuels your body, tastes amazing, and is easy to stick with. Definitely one I’ll be reaching for again and again.

This isn’t a BAD cookbook but if you have any experience with high protein and/or low carb cooking, this will not inspire you.

Also, be prepared for pricey ingredients-almond flour, collagen protein powder, egg white protein powder, sweetener substitutes, etc.
