***I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review!***
I think that the author continues to show improvement with character development and overall story line. Aaron does continue to grow on you the more you read about him. You also get a better sense of who his children are in this book. All of the characters that you have come to know in previous books are back with a vengeance, as there are plenty of more crazy times to be had.
While I am not a big fan of books with a much older character involved with a younger character, I think that Aaron and Chloe do have an interesting connection. She certainly brings out a better side of him, and helps him to understand himself and his past better. Chloe is very understanding of the feelings he still has towards his late wife, which is very important, as that is something that will never truly go away.
I did think it odd to read a lot more of Aaron's story, as I thought this series would focus more on his children, and especially with it being back to back with his previous story. I felt that this story would have been easier to get into if Riveted had been in between. It seems that just as you are getting into his past, and his love story with Angel, that book ends and then you are forced to move onto a new love interest which has some inherent problems of its own. I guess I just felt like these books could have been combined or rearranged to make it easier on the reader.
This series is based on a family of crazy people. I have never read a series where crazier things have happened, and with such regularity, than they do here. Each person in this series has their own baggage to deal with, and at times, the situations that come up are still highly improbable. I think that many of the scenes and characters were added to make the book funnier, but they actually detracted from the story for me. I know that this is a work of fiction, but I have to believe that these situations could really happen in order for me to completely connect with it. I have to find characters that I would want to be friends with, that make me laugh, that I find redeeming rather than just ridiculous.
There were some really great scenes in this book, and again, I think that the author had some really great ideas that just weren't executed as well as they could have been. The characters were better developed, but the editing was still an issue. There were still repetitive phrases used, and some of the same ideas and scenes were used in every book. While this book was better in some ways, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done in my opinion.
