He's spent twelve years protecting everyone else. She's the only woman strong enough to make him kneel.

Kane Delgado is Nightshade Security's most formidable operative—the man who finds the exits, neutralizes the threats, and keeps everyone safe. But beneath the tactical precision and military discipline lives a secret he's buried for over a the desperate need to surrender control to someone strong enough to hold him.

Jordan MacCallister orchestrates perfection. As the brilliant mind behind Houston's most exclusive private club, she manages chaos with ruthless efficiency and never lets anyone see her sweat. She's confident, capable, and completely in control—of everything except the hypervigilant security specialist who keeps trying to protect her when what she really wants is to strip him down and make him beg.

When they negotiate a three-scene deal to test their explosive chemistry, the rules are explicit consent, structured power exchange, and absolutely no emotional entanglement. But Kane's carefully constructed walls are crumbling, and Jordan's discovering that true dominance isn't about control—it's about trust.

As an external threat forces them closer, they're faced with an impossible retreat to the safety of their professional boundaries, or risk everything on a surrender that could heal them both—or shatter them completely.

Savoring Surrender is a high-heat BDSM romance featuring a protective alpha who's learning to kneel, a confident Domme who's learning to hold, explicit power exchange with enthusiastic consent, found family who meddle with love, and a happily ever after worth fighting for.

Savoring Surrender — Helena Newbury
This one lands at 3 stars for me, and not because the premise isn’t strong — it absolutely is. A hyper‑competent protector who secretly needs to kneel paired with a confident Domme who knows exactly how to hold him? That should’ve been a knockout. The potential is right there on the page.

But the execution feels scattered.

The story reads like it couldn’t decide which direction it wanted to take, so it tried all of them at once. Scenes don’t build on each other — they reset. Emotional beats don’t deepen — they restart. Plot threads don’t progress — they duplicate. I’d get invested in a moment, turn the page, and suddenly we were doing a slightly different version of the same scene, like the book kept slipping into alternate drafts.

It’s not confusing in a fun, twisty way — it’s confusing in a way that breaks the emotional arc. Half the time I cared about the characters, and the other half I was trying to figure out which version of the story I was supposed to be following.

And that’s the real disappointment: Kane and Jordan could have been electric. Their dynamic has so much potential — sharp, intimate, intense — but the scattered structure never gives them the space to fully shine.

By the end, I wasn’t savoring anything.
I was just trying to make sense of a book that kept tripping over itself.

3 stars because the characters deserved better, and the story needed serious tightening before it ever hit “publish.”

I normally don't go for erotic romances as there tends to be less plot than spice, but I was pleasantly surprised that while there was still a tantalizing amount of spice sprinkled throughout, there was still a compelling plot line with characters that I didn't hate.
I enjoyed the ethically greyzone that Kane treaded in, using company property/technology to watch Jordan, and how his supposed emotionless personality added to the tension between them. Honestly didn't get much from Jordan but felt she was written well as an compliment to Kane.
I will say that there was quite a lot of back story included that I didn't understand, that despite this being a standalone, I would recommend reading it with the rest of the series, if not in order, just to be able to understand all references made.

I hardly ever write reviews on books, but I’m writing one on this book because I truly believe that this author did not have anyone proofread this book. There are multiple chapters and scenes and scenarios in this book that are doubled up meaning the author should have chosen one or the other, but left BOTH of them in there for example the scene in the beginning of the book at the bar when they leave, she writes in one chapter where they go to a certain area after the bar and then in the next chapter, they leave the bar and go to a different area. Which one was it? you had to read on to find out which one it actually was. This happens again 40% through the book when they leave dinner, they go to one place and it writes about that and then in the next chapter it writes again about how they left the same dinner and they go to a different place which one actually happened???? who knows because the author put them BOTH in the same book. (And toward the end of the book oh actually they never went to the dinner WHAT!) Like WTF! Extremely confusing! The only explanation I can come up with is that someone made her rewrite areas of the book bc the woman was too dominant! And now it doesn’t read fluently with the mixture of scenes. But still it should have been proofread! It happens again and AGAIN THROUGHOUT THE BOOK! After an incident happens the couple goes back to apartment and converses works through her shock, oh wait next chapter actually she’s is in the hospital from shock from the incident WTF WHICH ONE HAPPENED!!! She rode in the car to the apartment the previous chapter but when she’s in the hospital it says she passed out from shock in the car, it makes no sense! Later she finds out about the same lie in two different ways like which one actually happened! I could keep on! She gets saved/ rescued later extracted by car from event, next chapter same event extracted by helicopter wtf! There were 3 version of this scenario two kinda overlap. Another she states I’ve never been to his apartment towards the end of the book um yes you have! Remember that scene!! UGH Pure frustration! I couldn’t stop reading bc I was invested in the characters but it just kept getting worse and making me mad! Like did you accidentally publish a rough draft!!!
The book has so much potential I kept hoping it would make sense of it somehow!! But there was never any clarity of why there was SO MANY double takes on scenes!!

Savoring Surrender is the next book in the Shattered Embraced Series. A book I enjoy but was a little confused at the beginning. It jumped around a little bit between the characters point of views, eventually it got on track and the rest to follow is why I love this series.
Kane and Jordan are both Alphas in their own right. But what happens when you ask the Dom to submit? They spent months dancing around each other, though everyone around them knew there was something there. However, Kane is so tactical that he’s having trouble accepting what is by telling himself he is not deserving. Despite all that Jordan is determined to get him to kneel, to submit, because he needs to off load his burdens. They are bringing him down.
Both characters have fortresses built around them. Both finally agree to 3 scenes. With the first two flipping roles, because Kane isn’t the only one who needs to off load burdens but Jordan does too.
As Kane is beginning to drop his walls the threat to their business and organizations are building. Something big is coming and even though he drops his shields around Jordan he knows he needs to keep her safe as well. Of course it also scares him because the last time he was “distracted” he’s the only one who came out of it alive.
Will Kane start to pull away to protect her?
Will Kane lose sight of his job because of “distractions”?
Jordan’s afraid of being hurt, will she do something to sabotage everything they built?
These questions and so many more that keep one turning the page. You want to know what happens next. You don’t put the book down unless you have too. And though the book reads as a standalone it’s always best to go to the beginning and get all the back story that lead to this one.
So make sure when you sit down, you have time. Because once you start you won’t want to stop.

Nightshade is the most formidable security company and Kane is the man who gets things done, he takes care of the rest of them with precision and control but Kane is hiding a side to him that he has hidden for decades, he seeks to let go of the control and surrender himself, find someone who is strong enough to take this role on.

Jordan manages one of the most exclusive private club in Houston and while she is in control and manages things to perfection, with her ruthless

So when he enters the world of Shattered Embrace and that's where he meets her, the potential woman who could make all his dreams come alive. So when they negotiate to do three scenes where there rules are clear, Complete Consent, a structured power exchange and no emotional involvement, what could go wrong?

As there chemistry deepens and the dangers become more apparent, can they both keep the relationship within the carefully constructed rules or too hell and break them.

This is the fifth book in this series and as always can be read as a stand alone story, but I would definitely recommend reading this series. These two characters are well developed and the chemistry between them jumps off the page.

It is always a thrill to read this genre but having the male character so rugged and strong in control in his job, to have the challenge of him wanting to surrender that control in the bedroom is a wonderful turn of events. Although during the course of the book I love how Jordan realises that the true control is the trust between them, that Kane trusts her and that she trusts him in ways she has never really done with anyone else.

I love this series and can't wait to read more books by this wonderful author.

Savoring Surrender by Alyndra Quinn is an emotional, intense romance that draws readers into a story filled with passion, vulnerability, and complex emotions. The title gives the book a dramatic, intimate tone, and the story feels like it belongs in a series centered on desire, trust, and emotional healing.
Following the story of Jordan and Kane, who are both from previous books as background characters, and are finally getting to see the spotlight for themselves. This is the fifth book in her Shattered Embrace Series, and I was so excited to pick this one up. When I ran into issues with the pov from the characters, it did kind of pull me out of the story a bit, but not enough to ruin the ride overall.
What I enjoyed most was the way the book explores surrender not just as romance, but as an emotional journey. The characters seem to face more than just attraction; they must also deal with inner fears, boundaries, and the challenge of letting someone truly see them. That deeper emotional layer makes the romance feel more meaningful and keeps the story from being about chemistry alone.
The book has a sensual and dramatic feel, with moments of tension that make the relationship engaging. I liked how the story appears to balance passion with emotional stakes, showing that love can be powerful, messy, and healing all at once. Readers who enjoy romance with intensity, vulnerability, and a darker emotional edge may find this book especially appealing. I was so happy with how this whole series ended, as I just couldn’t put down any of the books from start to finish. If you are looking for a great series to sweep you away for a weekend, then this is a definite binge-reading one for you!

Savoring Surrender (Shattered Embrace Series) by Alyndra Quinn.
4 of 5 Stars.

Having read and enjoyed the previous books in this series, I was excited to get back to the Shattered Embrace world. Kane Delgado is an Alpha male who is used to protecting everyone as Nightshade Security's most formidable operative. However, he has a secret, a need to surrender control, but only to someone strong enough to hold him. Jordan MacCallister is the brilliant mind behind Houston’s most exclusive private club. She’s used to being in control, so is not used to someone trying to protect her, which is what the hypervigilant security specialist, Kane, is trying to do. As neither of them can deny their explosive chemistry they negotiate a three-scene deal, with Jordan in control.

They both agreed to not let emotions get involved, but they both find this more difficult than they were expecting, especially when an external threat forces them closer together. They must make a decision to either go back to having a professional relationship, or the more intimate one they have both been searching for. This is a steamy BDSM romance between a confident Domme and an Alpha male. The chemistry between Kane and Jordan sizzles off the page and leads to some steamy scenes. I was hooked throughout by the mix of drama, action, suspense, and romance.

Savoring Surrender (Shattered Embrace Series #5) by Alyndra Quinn

This isn’t the first book I’ve read by the author. I think I’ve read all the books by this author and I am in love. This book is all Kane and Jordan. She finally gets a book where she may or may end up happy. Savoring Surrender is the fifth book in the Shattered Embrace Series.

Kane is running security as the guests have a good time. He is making sure that they are safe. But then Jordan keeps catching his eye. He wants her, but he’s too stubborn to say it. After the wedding when they return home he keeps tabs on her. He claims it’s for her safety, but it’s because he’s obsessed. The quote I chose for him is this: “You shouldn’t wander off alone.”

Jordan is happy that Derek found someone for him, but she can’t help being hurt that it wasn’t with her. Then she finds Kane and can’t help but feel a spark between them. Only if she could get him to loosen up a little bit. Then he starts showing up at the club when she is there. The quote I chose for her is this: “Three drinks over four hours. I’m tipsy, not incapacitated. I can still walk a straight line and recite the Greek alphabet backward.”

This is a series that I have enjoyed reading from the first book. This is a series that can be read as a standalone but I highly suggest reading all of them. One of the things I enjoy about this author is their creative characters that are written with a lot of heart and soul. I also enjoy how the author has the ability to pull me into the story with ease and keep me there throughout the story. This is a story about Jordan and Kane. Their story is about trust but there is a force that is pushing them together. Will they find healing in each other or will they retreat to safe boundaries? I enjoyed both of these characters. They are strong, connectable and well developed which made their story easy to read and entertaining as well. They made me want to know more about them which had me turning pages fast. The growth of this story is great which kept it fast paced. This is a great story that I enjoyed. I look forward to seeing what is next for this author. I highly recommend this book.

This is the 5th book in the Shattered Embrace Series. I have enjoyed everyone of these books and I do recommend reading them all. They are the perfect blend of danger, protective alpha male vibes and the chemistry of your couple just sizzles off the page. This story follows Kane and Jordan.
Kane is also in protective mode. He is an alpha male and knows his role is to protect everyone around him. However there is one woman who can break those walls and is capable of bringing him to his knees and that is Jordan.

Jordan is used to being in control of every area of her life and she doesn’t take kindly to a protective Kane trying to constantly save her. When they opportunity arises for them to do a scene together Jordan finally sees the opportunity to show Kane how good it can feel to let go of control and give it over to her.

This is a story about discovery. It explore the BDSM relationship where the protective alpha is learning how to release control and a confident Domme learns the power of having an extremely powerful man kneel before her.

Savoring Surrender (Shattered Embrace Series) by Alyndra Quinn. This is another great book in the Shattered Embrace series. This is the story of Kane who is used to being the Protector of everyone. He is Nightshade Security's number one Operative. He is always the one who takes care of everyone and makes sure things are done the right way. What Kane really wants is a woman strong enough to control him. When he meets Jordan who runs Houston's most exclusive club and when she meets Kane sparks fly. Jordan is not used to being taken care of so when Kane tries to protect her she's not to sure about it. They finally come to an agreement, Jordan is in control and no emotions are to be involved. As time goes on they find the emotion part harder to control. Getting closer to each other always involves feelings and with Jordan being in charge Kane has feelings for her he has never had before. Will they be able to keep it as BDSM lovers only? This is a steamy read that will keep you flipping pages late in the night.

I was beyond excited to pick up another book in the Shattered Embrace Series because this author does such amazing work with all their characters! This one in particular is the fifth book of the series, and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to read it. There were a couple of moments that felt a little disconnected for me, but overall, it was an absolutely incredible adventure. If you haven’t read any of the previous books, you can definitely read this as a standalone. That being said, I will always recommend reading the entire series when the books are this good! One of our main characters, Kane, has been in the series since the very first book, so there is plenty of continuity throughout. Our other main character, Jordan, was also in previous books, so getting to see these two together was a real treat. Their dynamic is perfection, and their chemistry is off the charts! I don’t want to spoil any of the fun, so I will leave you at my incredibly high recommendation of reading this as soon as you possibly can. I can’t wait to see what else this author has in store for us!

Kane Delgado of Nightshade Security is used to analyzing and planning escape routes as he walks into every situation. He is always assessing. He does not know any other way to live. That was until Jordan, the most brilliant event planner in Houston, started to show some cracks in her walls. This is the story of Kane lowering his walls to finally realize that he can have a life without always watching from the perimeter, planning the timeline, and anticipating the next crisis. Jordan gets to break through the wall Kane put up over a decade ago when he came home, and the seven others from his team didn’t. Can these two control nuts relax enough to get past their three-session contract?
This is the first book I have read by this author and the first in this series, although it is the fifth book in Shattered Embrace. You can read the books as standalones, but I definitely recommend reading them in order. I liked this book, and it had me hooked, but I feel like it could have been split into two books because it was definitely long.

This is the fifth installment in the Shattered Embrace series. While it works perfectly as a standalone, I highly recommend diving into the whole series. As a long-time fan of this author, I was incredibly excited to see background characters Jordan and Kane finally step into the spotlight—and their electric chemistry completely sizzles off the page. This is a steamy BDSM romance featuring a confident Domme and a rugged, powerful Alpha male. What makes this story so compelling is the role reversal: seeing a strong man who is completely in control of his professional life crave the freedom of surrendering that control in the bedroom. Quinn masterfully explores surrender as an emotional journey of vulnerability, trust, inner fears, and boundaries. However, around the halfway mark, the plot began to feel a bit drawn out and repetitive, making the book feel longer than necessary. Despite this slower pacing in the middle, it remains a captivating and well-written read that perfectly balances high-heat romance with genuine emotional depth.

Savoring Surrender is book 5 in the series. It wasn’t my favorite but it was good. I thought it was to long and to drawn out. It was well written…yes. The characters were very likable I just felt like it kept going on and on. I loved Kane and Jordan’s story but it took me forever to finish the book.
Kane sees to always be on the clock. Always figuring out exits, danger and never fully in the moment when he isn’t actually working. Jordan is a very strong FMC and perfect for him but I was afraid she was going to come off to strong for him but turns out she was just perfect for him and they were exactly what the other needed.
On that note, the book confused me a bit as it seemed like it jumped around at certain parts. I felt like I knew they agreed to 3 scenes 2 chapters before it actually happened and I didn’t understand what the author was referring to until I read it 2 chapters later.

The Shattered Embrace series had been good all the way through. Kane has always been the one to look out for and protect everyone else. Now it’s his turn to let his guard down. Will he be able to do so? Jordan runs one of the most exclusive clubs in Houston. The chemistry between Kane and Jordan has been close to igniting plenty of times but now the time is right. They negotiate a three scene deal to explore the explosive chemistry but once those secens end they both want more. An external threat could endanger everything they have built and now they face a dilemma. Do they continue their relationship and surrender to what could either heal them, or shatter them? Or do they go back to the safety of being professional once again? The chemistry is hot and intense, the emotions run deep, and the story is intriguing. This could be read as a standalone, but you’ll want to read the entire series. You won't regret it.

Savoring Surrender is the fifth book in the Shattered Embrace series. I read this book as a stand -alone. The characters are well-written. Kane Delgado is a former military man who leads a security team; while living with survivor’s guilt.
Jordan MacCallister, manages Shattered Embrace and private club. She is always in control and very skilled in her job.
When the two decide to enter a BDSM relationship over 3 scenes, Jordan and Kane realize they need more.
The story takes a turn and this is where I could not connect. When an outside threat tests their relationship; the story drags a bit for me. However, it may just be because I have not read the other four books in the series.
I did enjoy the romance aspect and Kane and Jordan’s dynamic. I definitely recommend reading from the beginning of the series. I will go back to the beginning and re- read this one again.

Savoring Surrender (Shattered Embrace Series Book 5) By Alyndra Quinn

Savoring Surrender is the fifth book in the Shattered Embrace Series. This is a Dark Romance that kept me guessing while partially confused throughout the book. The characters were developed, creative yet was missing something I had a hard time connecting with any of it. The characters the storyline was definitely lagging. Maybe it’s a me thing and im just in a reading funk. I’m definitely going to reread this book again and hopefully my opinion is different after. I’m a fan of this author and still recommend reading this book just because I couldn’t connect doesn’t mean someone else might. I look forward to rereading and what this author brings us next.

Savoring Surrender by Alyndra Quinn, delivered an emotional and passionate story that pulled me in quickly and kept me invested in the characters’ journey. The chemistry between the characters felt intense and believable, and I appreciated the balance between vulnerability, tension, and romance throughout the story.
Quinn’s writing style flows smoothly, making this an easy and immersive read. I especially enjoyed the emotional layers beneath the romance, which added depth to the story and made the characters feel more relatable. There were several moments that genuinely tugged at my emotions, and I found myself eager to see how everything would unfold. A compelling and satisfying read overall, and I’m looking forward to continuing the series.

Savoring Surrender (Shattered Embrace Series Book 5)

I have been partial to Ashton and Zachary since I read their book. I have liked everyone, but they were just special to me for some reason. Jordan and Graham are probably my favorite support characters before I started this book. Now I think Jordan is just my favorite.

Jordan was a brat in the earlier books, but I saw a completely different side of her in this book and I loved it and her.

Kane was so tense and wound up way tighter than any person should be. He needed a way to release everything and Jordan was able to see that.

I think they may have dethroned Ashton and Zachary as my favorite couple and I'm okay with that.

This book absolutely delivered on the tension, trust, and emotional intimacy. Kane and Jordan’s chemistry felt electric from the start, but what really made this story stand out was the vulnerability underneath all the control. Kane may be the intimidating protector type on the outside, but watching him slowly unravel and allow himself to need someone hit surprisingly deep emotionally. Jordan was such a refreshing FMC too. She’s calm, capable, dominant without being cruel, and I loved how the story treated power exchange as something built on trust instead of just spice. There was genuine care between them, and that made the relationship dynamic work so well for me. Add in the danger/external threat storyline and the found-family vibes from the Club Shattered Embrace world, and I was hooked. If you like protective but secretly needy MMCs, confident Domme FMCs, BDSM with strong consent and emotional depth, forced proximity + high tension, “touch her and die” energy mixed with “please take care of me” then this is probably going to hit very well for you. Definitely one of those books where the emotional surrender mattered just as much as the physical one.

I have definitely savored this one. While this is book five in the series and it could be read as a standalone it’s so much better having started from the beginning. Kane has been in the store since book one. Not the main character but there and his relationship with Jordan didn’t just happen. Jordan was one of the main characters in book three, Discovering Desire. Seeing how she had changed and developed as a character from then to now was an added treat. Finally seeing inside Kane’s mind was a surrender that he deserved and needed. I instantly am on board with anything by Alyndra Quinn and I cannot wait to see what she will write next, but I know I’ll be there.

This is book 5 in the series and I have enjoyed all of them. This book follows Kane and Jordan. Kane is head of security and Jordan is the event planner for the Nightshade club. They both are usually on the sidelines watching and fixing things that go wrong, but they both want more and to release some of that control. So they decide to enter into a negotiation for three scenes. From the beginning they are both wondering if it could be more and they work through a lot in the book. I really like the story with a bit of spice thrown in but it seemed a little scattered. I had to reread because I felt like it would go back in time or maybe some chapters were out of order.

This is the fifth book in this series and can be read as a standalone but my advice is to read the entire series because of its great background information and because they are all very good reads. This one isn't my favorite one in the series but it was still a very enjoyable book. As always this author is great at creating steamy moments between the main characters. Both characters have grown a lot from the beginning and it was nice to see their growth. I was happy to see Jordan and Kane get their own story. I have enjoyed everything I have read by this author and I recommend this book.

This book is the fifth in the Shattered Embrace series and is another good addition. I really enjoyed the characters in this story, I thought their chemistry was undeniable and I couldn’t wait to see more of it. Although this trope is my favourite, I thought the author did a great job of displaying it while not letting it take over completely.
I thought the story was good, but not my favourite of the series. At times, it felt a little less put together than the other books, although I did enjoy it overall. This is definitely worth reading if you have enjoyed the series so far.

I love everything about this book. It is an easy read, the characters are relatable, and the plot is intriguing. I find there are many novels out there that focus on adult things, but this book has a clearly defined plot intertwined with adult actions.

Kane is a special character. The author did a fantastic job bringing him to life. I adore his vulnerabilities being exposed instead of suppressed. Layer by layer, Jordan peels him open like an onion.

This author has a gift for writing amazing characters and telling their stories.

Good, but...

This is a good read, but there are problems. It's almost like two books smashed into one. Scenes from different viewpoints, but wrong. Written to a different story. A plot point ended then started over without reference to how it just played out. Different storyline, conflicting, wrong. Confusing. I liked it enough to keep reading, but not as happy as it should have been. If any book ever really needed a good editor, it's this one.

Savoring Surrender by Alyndra Quinn is an amazing story of a man living with survivors guilt and needs a female role to hold his emotional baggage. This story has just the right amount of spice and I love how the main female character holds herself she is one independant girl that can hold not only herself but the man that she loves! I would reccomend this book and watch as they cant seem to put it down!

Love love love. This book was just right up my alley. I was not able to put the book down. I really enjoy books that grab the reader and sweep them up into a world that has drama and romance. The author pulls the reader into the bdsm world and weaves the story bringing a steamy world to life. I felt as though i was right there with the characters. I look f9rward to reading more from this author.

The Shattered Embrace series had been a winner all the way through. Kane has always watched out for and protected everyone else—now it’s his turn to let his guard down. Jordan is able to accomplish anything, including a scene deal with Kane, finally. The chemistry is intense, the emotions are deep, and the story is intriguing. This could be read as a standalone, but you’ll want to read the entire series.
