Alphas of the Rocky Mountains #1

His Mate: A Dark Wolf Shifter Romance

Rate this book
He's not just going to mark me. He's going to breed me.

I'm completely bare and shamefully on display, fully aware that in a few short moments I'll be writhing and screaming as one brutal climax after another ravages my helplessly bound body.

Because the alpha wolf who has claimed me as his mate is coming to breed me again.

And no matter how desperately I strain against my bonds, he's going to take what is his.

The first time he caught the scent of my helpless arousal, he lost control of his instincts, pinned me against the wall, spanked my ass red, and then mounted and rutted me like a wild beast.

But today, he's not just going to leave me sore and spent with his seed dripping down my thighs.

He's going to mark me as his.

Publisher's  His Mate includes spankings and rough, intense sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

This was a bit of a mess to me by the end. I was surprised to see this author has several books out because I would have thought it was her first. There were lots of good ideas in the book, but the author didn't make them make much sense and were just happening, so I was confused. One big one is, why are the wolves trying to kill Kendra and Rowan if they want to study them??? I thought the point was to take them alive, but for some reason, at some point, that went out the window. Lots of repetition in dialogue, too. And one last thing: the spanking. I'm not a huge fan of spanking in books, but i won't take points away just for that...but in this book, it seemed like a gimmick. I don't know if it's a wolf thing in this whole series, but the spanking was NOT hot and sometimes seemed like it was thrown in just to add a kink when it wasn't really needed.

Gonna call is at 47%. I read up until there and got kinda bored and was going to come back, but after 3 attempts, I officially threw in the towel. It wasn't awful, the tone was just way more serious than I was in the mood for and the storyline was kinda predictable and boring.

DNF at 50 percent do not recommend this book. I’m actually traumatized. The weird thing is it’s rated highly but I just could not get past all the agression and possessive alpha vibes yes I do read other dark romances like this but something about this book maybe the fact she’s 18 and he’s a million years old and sooo possessive like gross. Like doesn’t get much consent and basically 🍇s her at the start 🤢.

Nope. Absolutely no. dnf'ing at 33% due to even her mate not granting her a choice. And supposedly she enjoys it all? Not for me.

Cliffhanger

Beware it ends on a cliffhanger. I didn't think I saw there was more than one but this book is simply incomplete so hoping there are more.
This is a nice twist on werewolves...a post apocalyptic type book.
Werewolves are a virus, the females can't produce so the makes take humans to breed.
The two mains seem to have found love but the sex is brutal caution it's a book about raping human women to breed them.
Our mmc does claim her and yet he's brutal.
They're on the run it's humans vs wolves, some factions of wolves washy to help the humans to keep them alive. No humans no breeding for wolves.
I think they want to get back to humans getting to choose, females falling in love...mates etc but the book doesn't get there.
They fought off some wolves but they're coming.
We need more, how can Sara Fields just leave us hanging?
There is potential here. If I knew there was a second book I'd up my rating.

Hard To Believe He Cares About Losing Her When He Fuels Himself Overstimulating Her

Tried a few of these books by Sara Fields and its evident that its just stress smut for those affluent enough to need to create conflicts in their lives.

I will review this based on the words you chose to manifest.

Can't imagine having such an Unseen, Unloved and utterly Unfucked life that you are able to ignore her pain and tears and sheer terror, JUST BECAUSE its the same nerve cluster that stimulates her.

This is the same story of gaslighting, over and over.

Fields reminds me that women MOSTLY take a long fucking time to work out they've been raped.

Fields reminds me that accidental choking has risen dramatically since "authors" (copy and paste the AI beat for beat) started just doing the sane story in the same plot points.

Guess thats the difference between those who wish they lived in pain.

But no, I'm not offended.

I would need to invest energy in worrying about the Sexless unseen Neoliberal and Neoconservative women out there who need smacked around to enjoy having fun.

Can't relate.

But then you Genocide Gaza.

You nuance the patriarchy.

You aid dominator cultures.

Fuck.

All.

Dominator Cultures.

When someone tells me its ok to bmget Bate the fuck up by someone claiming to care for you, as he likely lacerates your asshole, fuck, you remind me of the "middle class" protectors of rapists.

But don't worry, women are actually attracted to Kindness, so its nice knowing you do this to yourselves, because now I can perceive your necrotic clitoris with no guilt.

Green Pilled Patriarchial Parable of Toxicity.

Snore.

Where's Luigi, save her St Luigi of Mangione.

Pap this fucking coward

Its Dark...Beyond Dark...basically BLACK!

The physical abuse is not something I wish to read about...its almost ruined shifter books for me...definitely deserves a one star.

If you like rape and abuse, read on. The beginning starts with a 19 year old girl being dragged from her home to a compound. Along the way, she is slapped, demeaned, and otherwise abused. Once at the compound, she's forced to publicly strip. She's threatened, beaten, and aggressively given a medical exam while forcefully restrained. Then shes savagely raped. The author tries to frame it pretty by suggesting she likes being beaten and restrained while being aggressively fucked. Being a woman myself and having been a virgin once, sex the first time is painful! Even when your partner is trying to be gentle. Just pass on this disgusting writing.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy and am voluntarily reviewing it. I swear this book is three books in one. There are several storylines that make this book a great starter to an epic series. This book is like a Planet of the Apes/Hunger Games/Twilight mashup. I barely know where to begin. I am just happy that it is a series. There are so many characters that I would like to learn more about.

Time's up for Kendra Riley. The wolves are coming to take her to be bred. Yep, you heard me right. In this world the wolves need humans to birth their children/pups. The wolves had an uprising and pretty much rule everything. Humans don't have much say and just try to stay out of the wolves' way. Kendra is a force though. Her determination will either help her or harm her during her time with the wolves.

Rowan is Patient Zero. The wolves have finally caught him and he is being forced to mate with Kendra. Something goes wrong and Rowan bites her so now they are mated for real. No turning back. Rowan, of course, knows what that means. How is Kendra going to react when she finds out? Surprisingly well, until she tries to leave him and finds out what the mate bond actually is.

But wait, there's more. So much more. That is just 15% of the book. Readers are delved into a world of wolves and humans like no other. After looking for Rowan for so long, they finally caught him and he got away. Not only him, his mate as well. They are determined to find both of them. Kendra and Rowan together are powerful. The mate bond is strong. Both are willing to give up their life for the other. Will they be forced to if the wolves find them again? On the run is not a good place to be, but that is the only life they can have right now. This book feels complete. No series cliffhangers, but it does leave readers longing to know more.

the storyline is a little different for werewolf books. that part was interesting. however, the first 25-30% of the book is just rape kink. it actually made me sick to my stomach. even later in the book, the MMC basically forces himself on the FMC and assualts (hits) her, but after it's already happening, she decides she kind of likes it, so it's ok now. it's a horrible literary cop out. I had a really hard time understanding some fundamental premise also.
1. the FMC and her human friends talk about missing the before (the collapse) time, getting used to being dirty, missing malls, etc. the collapse was 206 years ago, and they are 18 and 19. they weren't alive during the "before." There are a lot of these references, and they are confusing.
2. why do they need to breed more werewolves? like at all? they are almost immortal, and they are slowly wiping out the human population...so why do you need more?
3. if the werewolves want to capture the MMC and FMC, why do they keep trying to kill them?
4. why are some werewolves scientists and doctors and others are barely functioning feral beasts? that is a huge swath of reactions to a virus.

I know some of these points are missing the forest for the trees, but it really bothered me. I skimmed a bunch because things were too graphic or rapey for me. I don't think I'll be reading another from this author.

This is essentially an Omegaverse non-con-to-con smut story. I don’t typically mind that setup, but I struggled with several aspects here:

1) The FMC is described as “strong” simply because she says “no” a few times—which, honestly, who wouldn’t in that situation? That alone doesn’t make her a compelling or resilient character.

2) Her so-called strength is apparently enough to captivate a 200-year-old Alpha who, somehow, has never encountered a woman who resists being raped before. He’s instantly in love, but there's very little development or depth behind that shift.

3) Despite being on the run multiple times, there’s always time for a spontaneous breeding session. The urgency of the situation gets completely undermined by the pacing of the sex scene and its not till a tender moment after the fact they they go "hey maybe we should try to run away since there are no guards?" Just... no.

4) Every encounter seems to require the FMC to have 7–10 orgasms minimum, which quickly becomes repetitive and unrealistic.

5) The world-building is scattered and only starts coming together around the 40% mark, which really hurts the story’s cohesion early on.

6) There’s a heavy emphasis on spanking and pain, but with zero aftercare.

I DNF-ed at 50%. Just couldn't push through the rest.

Kendra Riley has never known a world not ruled by the wolves, but Rowan Blackwood was there, and he is just one of the many humans to be changed by the virus. When he is captured by others who were changed into wolf shifters, they take him to a facility where young human women are forced into captivity to be bred in order to expand the wolf population. Like most young women Kendra dreaded her nineteenth birthday because that is the day the wolves will come for her and there is no way to refuse.
Wow, I loved this book, of course I love all of this author's work. Ther are quite a few characters in this book who have significant roles in the story, and whether you love them or hate them you will find that they are all well written with engaging personalities, and they are all absolutely fascinating. As aways there is a lot of steam and some pretty rough sexual encounters between the main two characters. This book will keep you on the edge of you seat with lots of violence, brutal battles, and unexpected twists in the plot. A must-read book that I highly recommend to other readers.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book that I received from Book Sprout.

The world collapses, changing everything forever...

This book shows how far civilization can change quickly. Before you read this book, I wanted you to know that this book is the darkest paranormal romance I have ever read. Their world changed after the plaque. The wolves were the supreme being on planet earth. They in stated a law that every female obtaining the age of twenty-two would be captured and used for breeding wolf pups. There was nowhere a human could run to escape. Kendra spends her last few hours of freedom with her two best friends. They break into a mall theater and watch “The Breakfast Club”. There was a knock at the door and they all knew who it was. They were here for her. Her unbelievably nightmare had begun. They take her the facility and treat her like a piece of fertile meat. She meets her mate during one of breeding sessions. There is no consent given and Rowan just takes and breeds with her. Can he save both from this vile place? Is there anywhere they can go and live a “normal” life? I recommend this book to those that have strong hearts and stomachs. It's a good read.

I always love when SFields gives us a good dystopian PN dark romance. It reminds me of the first books I read by the author, the ones that hooked me and made me a fan since (Consumed, Feral, The Omgeaborn Trilogy). Anyways, she writes a good plot with a great side of spice ❤️ 🌶 and her writing style has come a long way with more complex characters.

This story finds two characters at odds. One is a human taken and forced to be a breeder for the wolves that run the world. The other is a rogue wolf that refuses to conform who is forced to breed.

This wolf is not like the other 'infected' wolves that all transformed thru a viral illness; he was bitten. That makes him special and am oddity and these wolves want to know why. So they will force him to breed and get the secrets from his offspring. When these he is forced to meets his "breeder" for the first time, he knows that he will tear everything and everyone apart to safe himself and the little human he just met.

Action, spicy - so 🔥 🥵, and a plot that may lead to more books in this world (who knows). Recommend this to warm you up.

Kendra is doomed. She is of age, and they were coming for her. There was nowhere to run. She was going to be bred by a wolf shifter. Rowan Blackwood was changed after that fateful night. He lost his control with the new blood flowing through him. Now he was drawn to the one woman that was his mate. But they are both trapped by the wolf. It is like the end of the world. Things changed when a virus broke out. Now it is, take the humans and bring about a new group. Rowan is the first and they want him. Now with Kendra in the mix, they are both hunted. Of course, there is a Resistance out there that wants to take the wolves down. It is a “dog eat dog world” so to speak. Fighting to be free of the infestation. The Resistance leader, Sorin is tough. She doesn’t trust anyone including Kendra and Rowan. I was thrilled when a new person came on board with a plan, Silas. I have to say I was thinking about COVID and how things started to change. If there was a shifter turn in the world. I might want to be bitten.

Rowan and Kendra. Hes ex marine. He and his friend stand guard at the entrance. They guard their clients secrets not knowing what they are. Trying to tell himself it didnt matter what happened behind closed doors. Then chaos. Behind closed doors. Still trying to tell himself it doesnt matter. Then they see it. They shoot it, it doesnt go down. They retreat. He watches his friend and brother in arms go down. Hes wounded in the fight to the death. A fight that will change his life. Two hundred and six years later .. the black plague and destruction abound, the Collapse. She was turning nineteen, she'd be taken and losing her freedom. If you run and they catch you its worse. It was time. The way Rowan and Kendra meet is breathtaking and primal. I am never disappointed in a Sara Fields story. This one is no exception. They are brutally dark and alpha and a pairing of two souls meant to be together. Couldnt put it down.

This is a simply wonderful read, the characters and the plot is simply captivating
Rowan has been infected and became a wolf shifter and has also been able to retain a huge amount of his humanity and has decided that the best thing he can do is to separate himself from the wolves that have taken over control of the pack.
When he had met Kendra under the most terrible circumstance the bond between them had been almost instant and together, they have managed to escape the detention center and then they have run for their lives.
There has been a battle between the wolves and humans and this has been a real mix of battling between good versus evil and I guarantee that as you read this story you will be left waiting to see what is going to happen in the next book in this series.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

Sara Field's latest shifter story, 'His Mate', is the first book in her "Alphas of the Rocky Mountains" series. It presents a dark and thrilling narrative set in a post-Collapse world (206 A.C. - After Collapse), where wolves have overtaken society and established their own rules.

This installment is as spicy and intense as her previous works. The story follows Rowan Blackwood, who finds everything changed when he discovers Kendra in a breeding compound after being captured for experimentation once again. Despite being dosed with a powerful suppressant meant to prevent such a connection, Rowan marks and claims Kendra as his mate. Determined to escape, he manages to rescue her and flee together. However, they soon confront other enemies who are equally determined to rid the world of wolves.

I’m looking forward to reading more stories in this captivating paranormal world—especially the tales of Silas and Sorin!

Rowan, from the start, is the first shifter. We then time jump ahead to after the collapse of society and the wolves taking over. Women are taken to centers to be breed. Rowan realizes Kendra is his mate and marks her during one of the sessions. The powers that be send another wolf in to Kendra and that sets Rowan off who breaks out of the center, taking Kendra. The tale progresses through their travels, Kendra making a dumb move, getting captured by humans, Kendra's first shift, uniting with others and humans to fight the wolves. The story itself was good, and action kept one interested. The one issue I had and reason for the rating is a lack of emotional connection between Rowan and Kendra. There was a disconnect with the reader and a lack of desire to feel for the couple and what they were going through. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Humanity as we all know it, is gone. Shifter wolves rule. Human women are nothing more that breeders because the new world order females are unable to conceive. As well mortality chases the shifters. But they know there is one shifter who has dodged his limited life span and if they can figure out his secret, they can possibly live longer. One of the ways to accomplish this is to use him to make human females pregnant. But all does not go as planned for the new world order, as Rowan, recognizing that Kendra is his bonded mate, escape. As they make their way through the wilderness, Rowan does everything to keep Kendra safe - even if it is from herself as they are hunted relentlessly. But it is not long before the hunted become the hunters.
A very enjoyable book to read and I am eagerly waiting for the next one in this new series to come out.

★“You’re not just any wolf-you’re the reason this all started. You’re the beginning.”★

This author’s latest shifter story delivers with its evil post-Collapse (206 A.C [After Collapse]), bred-in-captivity theme - this was another darkly thrilling and spicy story as always 💖💖💖 Finding Kendra in the breeding compound changed everything for Rowan Blackwood when he was captured to be experimented on…yet again. But this time, he marked and claimed Kendra as his mate, even when they had dosed him with a powerful suppressant to prevent just that, amongst other things. Vowing to escape, Rowan manages just that, taking his prize female with him. But not long after, they come up against other enemies equally invested in ridding the world of wolves. Really looking forward to reading more stories in this paranormal world (hopefully) with Silas’ and Sorin’s stories!

Wow, this book literally had me on the edge of my seat as I read it. In a dystopian world following a virus which turned humans into wolf shifters, Kendra is just turning 19 and is now to become a breeder. Scared she finds herself in a room with a shifter but it doesn't go according to plan when he marks her. Rowan has been captured by those in charge. He is Patient Zero, the first to be changed and his genes are special but he will do anything to protect Kendra when he realises he has found his mate. As Rowan and Kendra find a way to escape they discover there is more going on in the outside world and they find themselves in the middle of the battle with surprises round every corner. Hot, steamy, brutal, dramatic and with lots of twists and turns, this book will captivate you. Great characterisation and storyline I hope that we see more of this world that Sara has created.

This is an absolutely fantastic story. Kendra is about to have her 19th birthday and by law when a girl is 19 she is taken to the wall to be bred. Kendra does not want anything to do with it, but she is made to do it. She is taken to the facility in the middle of the city and there she meets Rowan who is a wolf shifter, he is the oldest shifter the virus took over and changed humans into wolves. Rowan recognises Kendra as his fated mate, which then puts her in danger. I absolutely loved this and struggles between Kendra and Rowan at first, but he soon wins her over and they escaped the facility together. This is an epic start to a new series that I have to say I am already hooked and I can’t wait till the next episode in the series to come.

Warning needed

Buy the second and 3rd chapter There is a graphic, what I would describe as a medical rape scene with a doctor and nurse. They are doing a type of Gynecological exam on the MFC as she repeatedly tells him no and to stop. It's very graphic and detailed. It immediately turned me off of this book. I'm all about dark romances and I can love BDSM ( the whole hard side of it). But I can't read a book that doesn't give you a warning, even in the description about a graphic rape scene. Readers deserve a heads-up, so reader beware that within the 2nd chapter that's where you're going to end up. You may wanna skip it. I feel that It doesn't really add to the story it could have been left out. If I would have known about it I would have skipped it so that I could have continued on with the book. But at this point I returned the book and just don't wanna read it.

This story takes place after the collapse of society and now women are taken to be bred. Both Rowan and Kendra are captured and he is forced into a room with her after being given something to bring out his werewolf basic instincts.

I thought the two of them were great together. He is a dominant and protective alpha and she is a survivor - she won't go down without a fight (but still has a submissive side). The spice was high and detailed!

There was suspense & action throughout the book with the two of them trying to escape and survive after they were captured. Rowan was ready to protect Kendra at all costs. I enjoyed the little twist at the end.

4.5 stars. When I get a chance to read Sara Fields I tend to just devour them quickly. This one was no different. I throughly enjoyed the book. Rowan was different from what I expected but he was still a delicious alpha who knew how to make Kendra behave. Kendra was wonderful. She refused to break when forced into not pleasant situations and she very much was a great mate to Rowan. Can’t wait to see where this series goes and hopefully see amazing males for Kendra’s two best friends.
I just wish we had gotten a bit more of Rowan’s view point. We do get it for some of the chapters, but mostly it was Kendra. It was still a fabulous book, I just wish I got a bit more information/feelings from his side.
I did receive an ARC from Booksprout and this is my honest opinion.

A stunning start for Rowan and Kendra

I enjoyed reading this story and the main characters Rowan (lead male) and Kendra. The book starts right out the gates with a strong scene so mind the triggers for violence also domestic discipline. I don’t want to give away the surprises but do want to give something about the story. Rowan is a former marine who has moved into security. One assignment goes horribly wrong and this event changes the course of history. The world has moved into a dystopian time where various factions have emerged. Also young women at the age of nineteen are offered up for breeding. It is an interesting world with surprises. Looking forward to the next book featuring Silas and Lia. Read On!
