Milan is a young supermodel with a disability. She lives in the Upper East Side, she falls in love, and on the surface, her life seems perfect. But she struggles with inner turmoil, not in the least about her hearing disability. Broken is a novel that does it title justice and that presents an intriguing, engaging, fresh story of young love.

Milan isn’t your typical supermodel though. She’s witty, quirky, has a sense of humor and is overall, a nice person – none of the entitlement you sometimes see with models in movies. I also liked how Milan isn’t alone in her struggler, but is instead supported by a large group of friends.

An interesting, quirky YA novel, and a fast read, but enjoyable.

Milan's in a very unique position. She's a teenage supermodel hiding the fact that she's hearing impaired. While her family and a few close friends know the truth, the public does not. Milan knows what it's like to be discriminated against and teased, and she's reluctant to become the poster child for disabilities at the height of her fame. Adding to this is the grief she feels about her mother's death, her distant father, and a brother who despises her for reasons that are never quite clear. There are also boys -- a longtime love interest, and a foreign exchange student who swoops into her life in a very big way.

Milan's not alone, though. She has a large group of friends, girls who are colorful, outspoken, and (most of the time) supportive. Their world is that of the rich and privileged, with fashion galore, lavish parties, and photo shoots with the sprinkling of the more mundane -- namely high school. Because even though they're fabulous, they still need to graduate!

The novel ends on a cliff-hanger. We're not quite sure how Milan will handle this latest curveball thrown her way.

I do wish that there was more about Milan dealing with her disability. She's trained herself to sound "normal" when speaking, but I wanted to feel more of her struggle. It seemed like this was something she would have to deal with on a daily basis, especially when dealing with new photographers on shoots, or even in high school, but most of the time, I forgot that she was hearing impaired.

Who do I recommend this book to? Anyone who loves to read about the glamorous jet set and young love!

Cautivating.
When I first started this book I had my doubts about wether I would like it or not, as I kept going it became obvious that stopping wasn’t an option: I was hooked.

Tanille Edwards gives us a travel inside this young model’s head but twist it outside the glamour and runways to show us her daily struggle. The Supermodel who has everything. Beauty, Smarts, Luxuries, Friends She also happens to be deaf.

Milan, our main character lacks the self centered position expected on a Top Model and replaces it with a fresh attitute, witty comebacks and a remarkable sense of humor. She’s the kind of girl we’d all want to be or be friends with.

All girls can relate to some of the aspects of this book, I personally see a lot of myself in it. Wether it’s going out with your friends, fighting against a sibling or some love trouble.

"Place no one before thy self" the cover is the first thing that gives this book my approval and blessing.

I consider it a light read, it’s easy to understand and navigate and definitely a good book to spend the day or read while on a trip or vacation.

Love, intrigues, glamour, friendship and a lot more make of this book a MUST on my YA reading list.

As a plus, “Broken” by Tanille also comes free with two of her BIGGEST summer hits “All of Me” and “It’s Not Okay”.

4/5 stars from me. The missing star comes from the fact I do wish we would’ve seen more of Milan dealing with her disability, half the time I forgot she had it.

I love this cover. And I mean really love it. I'd put that on my wall as a poster.

Ok, that was a little beside the point of a review, but I'm just saying....it's a great cover. LOL

The book is actually very good. Extremely good, in fact.

So good that I finished it in one morning. Only stopping reading to do little things like go to the bathroom, make a cup of tea, and eat breakfast.

Well written, good plot, I like the characters, and the story could be predictable, but there's some twists in there that keep it interesting.

I look forward to reading more by Tenille Edwards.

I found myself going back to every title once I finished the chapter. Every title felt like my special secret. I wasn’t just in Milan’s world, but my own secret garden as well. Milan seems to have everything a girl would want, but it is only a facade. She craves more out of life than materialistic goods and always being told she is pretty. Her best friends, twins Sierra and Frenchie, admire Milan for being on the cover of magazines and walking the catwalk at fashion shows. But Milan realizes that sometimes, even with good intentions, our friends can hinder our own growth.

Everyone wants to be Milan, but no one truly knows her except Noel. Mean-girl Cara only envies Milan’s so-called fabulous life. Her brother, Dimitri, only bullies or ignores her. That depends on the mood he is in at any given moment. A great loss in Milan’s life has led to troubled relationships with both her father and brother. Milan’s father is unable to give her and her brother the emotional support they need. I think we have all been there in life with our ups and downs. There are moments when we feel closer to others than our own blood.

Noel challenges Milan. He takes her to a homeless shelter to help serve the disadvantaged. She is humbled by the fact that the people at the shelter are nicer than the crowd she lives and studies with in the Upper East Side. Noel fully accepts Milan for who she is. You see Milan is deaf and doesn’t use sign language anymore because she is embarrassed. No one else in her life has asked her why she doesn’t sign anymore. That is no one except Noel. Acceptance is hard to come by, but it is crucial to our hearts and souls. Milan craves that acceptance and finds it in Noel. Every single one of us is a Milan in need of our very own Noel.

Author/Songwriter Tanille has done it again! In her latest novel, “Broken”, we start off with a very unique hook. The Supermodel who has everything. Beauty, Smarts, Luxuries. She also happens to be deaf. This is a three part series in which we see her own who she is in the midst of New York’s fabulous teen lifestyle. We see a refreshing take on the New York popular high school crowd with its environmentally friendly and technologically clever attitude. Milan is the sort of girl everyone wants to be, the “listener” and the “lover”, not just the narcissistic heroine the movies sometimes tend to show. It is a darker love story than Tanille’s previous bestseller “Cameo” but with all of the romantic thriller elements mixed in! It is such an inspiration to read about a strong character as we see a coming of age story with a unique twist.
“Behind the guise of a smile and the enchantment of a girl’s eyes would grow the deepest sorrow I
had ever known. Had a final death come to our love?” – “Broken” by Tanille

“Broken” by Tanille also comes free with two of her BIGGEST summer hits “All of Me” and “It’s Not Okay”.

"Broken" is story about a girl named Milan, who is not exactly what everyone thinks. Milan is a teenage girl who is a model and has a disability that not many people knows about. She has seen from the past that people automatically judge her and feel sorry for her because she is deaf. After switching schools because of being made fun of she decides that she doesn't want people to know about her disability. Milan is also very much in love with a young man named Noel, but they have lost touch and yet she still can't stop thinking about him. Even though she is still in love with Noel, she tries to move on by dating someone else. While she is dating Merek she still can't shake the feelings she has for Noel.
I read this book in one sitting and was engaged throughout the entire book. My only complaint about the book is I felt like it jumped around a bit to much. Other than that I felt there were a lot of aspects that everyday teenagers can relate to. I was glad to see that this is part of a series, and am anxious to find out what happens between her and Noel and if she ever reveals her "secret".

Broken is a Young Adult book with a lot of great messages for everyone young and old. “Don’t wait for tomorrow. Do it now if you can." Milan’s Momma would always say to her. Don’t rely on your beauty or judge others on their looks. Milan feeling broken by the loss of her mother in the terrible accident, her strained relationship with her father due to him sending her first boyfriend away to boarding school in Europe, ran away never to want to come home again. Milan went against what her Momma taught her. Being a fashion model made her feel appreciated, vindicated, and most of all she could see her true self come out through the pictures. Through out this story the author takes you back to a time when this family was whole and not broken. Memories that Milan cherished.

I would rate Broken 3.5 out of 5 kisses.

*Received through Goodreads First Reads

I could tell from the first few pages that I wasn't going to be into this book. For one thing it is in first person, which based on personal preference bothers me. I just don't particularly like narratives in first person. The use of slang and mentions of pop culture subjects are probably supposed to make the story feel young and relevant but it came across as more amateur than anything. I will admit that I don't know much about New York, modelling or being deaf but the whole plot just seemed really unrealistic to me. I just couldn't really get into it.
