Jessie Haas has written over 35 books for children and adults, many about horses--a lifelong passion. She currently owns a Morgan mare, Robin, who is being clicker-trained to be a trail and pasture-dressage horse. She lives in a small, off-grid house in the woods with husband Michael J. Daley, two cats and a dog. When not writing or riding or reading she likes to knit, cook, and write, or ride, or read.
I believe out of the four Beware books I read last night during the pouring rain and thunderstorm, this one was my favorite. It was the most intense but also the most real somehow too. But yet it wasn't scary or anxiety provoking either, probably because I had faith that in the end everything was going to be ok.
So in this one Beware is sick. She is horribly sick in fact...and poor Lily is willing to go those extra miles to do anything to save her beloved horse. It shows very clearly what owning a horse is really like because horse ownership is not all shows, blue ribbons and rides on a trail. It is also worry, calling the vet and staying awake at all hours and being out in the awful weather walking your horse.
Even I learned something from reading this!
And the climax certainly builds in this story too!
This is definitely my favorite. But I sure would love to know what was in those things that Beware was munching on! I say "things" to not ruin the story.
I have decided to add some of my favorite children and young adult books that I have read in a shelf so that I can buy them for my girls one day. This was a cute little book about a mare called Beware, though I did not realize it was part of a series! I will have to get them the other books. The girl in the story gets home from school, goes out to ride the horse, and discovers it is sick. I remember being so concerned for the mare, but was so relieved towards the ending. I miss reading all these horse books.
