Alfie: Part II

MM Romance Part 2 of 2 Second Chances Irish Mafia Family Hurt/Comfort Age Gap Revenge Opposites Attract
When two broken hearts have reached their limits, it’s time for a mobster to play dirty in order to let the healing begin. Don’t worry, Alfie has a plan.

That very second, the moment West said those words…I almost shattered. Again. I’d put myself out there. I’d begged him for a second chance. I’d told him I’d give up everything for him and our kids—but he’d shot me down. And now, when I let him know that I was changing my last name back to O’Dwyer, he had the balls to say his name suited me better. He stood there in front of me, trying to act like his eyes weren’t burning with unshed tears, and admitted that he didn’t know how to let me go.

Not long after, I nearly broke into a million pieces again, when Dad called and said that Mom was in the hospital. That she’d been assaulted.

No words could describe the rage that flooded me, and I couldn’t hide it from West either.

He was about to find out just how far the Sons of Munster would go to avenge their own.

Alfie belongs in the Irish of Philly universe by Cara Dee. However, Alfie and West’s story has been written so it can be enjoyed to its full extent as a stand-alone.

I'm often stoically silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there's so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex. There's a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly. Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve. Additionally, I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.

Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.

I'm a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, and geeking. There's time for hockey and cupcakes, too. But mostly, I just love to write.

The heartache was worth it in book 1 so we could get to the reconciliation in book 2. These characters were so well written and real! And how does Cara write kids that are so endearing?!?! I hate kids but loved little Trip! Ellie was a nightmare but funny and devious 🤣🤣

Alfie found not only himself but West again. Becoming a family with the Sons did wonders for his attitude. He was a born mobster. This is fiction so I didn’t mind the justification for all the wrong doing. Selling drugs is not a winning goal. AND stealing from the government IS stealing from the people. Who do you think pays for the government. It’s not a money tree it’s TAX PAYERS. So that was a bit annoying when it was stated we aren’t stealing from the little guy. Epic eye roll 🙄 but I digress

West’s friendship with Shannon was super endearing I refuse to call it the vomit inducing term of “bromance” 🤮🤮🤮. The golfing and scheming was fun.

All in all a good duology. Definitely 100% better than the last one because “This Will Hurt” was awful. 😞

Off to Beta read next… then back to my Cara Dee marathon binge 🤣🤣🤣

The way I was waiting for this book, I couldn’t wait to read the rest of Alfie and West’s story. While the first book was high intensity angst and Alfie coming into his own and West growing too, this one takes off from right where that left off .. so kicks off the devastation that is the break between West and Alfie but I was so relieved because it isn’t dragged out at all. While they may be resting in their corners at first the pull (facilitated by Finn and Shan) is impossible to ignore and they get to work getting their priorities right. There is a lot more introspection where West is concerned here cause he has a ways to go and very unfamiliar road to trod and he has to clean his own house. All of it is immensely satisfying. If you loved the first Sons of Munster series you definitely need to read this one - it has the same giddiness inducing found family vibes and a ton of chemistry and banter thrown in for good measure.
That reminds me - the dynamic is as hot as ever between Alfie and West and I loved it but I did also love the bromance between Shan and West too.. those two are a match made in heaven.
The plot line with Alfie’s mom was heartbreaking but it built the bonding and all sorts of weight and self discovery on the way towards that extremely sweet ending
Absolutely loved this duet can’t wait to read more in this world, Cara Dee is one of my favourite authors for a reason and I am blown away everytime I read a book from her.

Expect:
* Irish Mafia
* Found family
* Second chance
* Violence
* Hurt/comfort
* Age gap
* Opposites attract

I started skimming after the 76% because the story had stopped being about Alfie and West for quite a bit of this 2nd part's length and I just wanted for things to get on with it so around that percentage I started skimming.

I'm torn.... I'm still having a hard time liking West... he is a bit of a self-centered individual and while Alfie is ready to do anything and everything for them to be together, West is just throwing one wrench after another without actually sitting down and seeing if its as impossible as he presents it to be for them to be together... nope he needs Shan to just silver platter everything to him. And then the story takes such WILD turn, it was just unbelievable to me.

Them getting together so "effortlessly" after the very heart-wrenching breakup at the end of pt.1 and the beginning of pt.2 was just lackluster.

How did this go from West actually not getting back together with Alfie, because Alfie chose to become a Son, to West head shooting from a meter away 2 thugs? COME ON!!!

Alfie and West's relationship felt like it was missing from the story once they got back together. Most of the story revolved around the attack on Alfie's mother, convincing her that Alfie becoming a Son ain't that bad and West and Shan's bromance with plenty of golf references that went over my head completely.

Unfortunately this continuation didn't work for me at all.

I am so in awe of this author’s work. Every story I read is so excellently crafted, full of feels, different circumstances, thousands of observations, and many different characters. It’s always breathtakingly fascinating and beautiful!

Alfie and West have been separated for years, they co-parent their kids. They still love each other deeply, but circumstances made it too difficult to communicate and continue.
Alfie wants a second chance, West wants Alfie happy, and it can’t be him.
West has difficulty letting Alfie go, the nail in his coffin is Alfie telling him to turn his name back into O’Dwyer.

In book one we saw how Alfie committed himself to his mob family. In book two we understand what this means.

I absolutely adore how Cara writes second chance romance. This book was definitely more focused on the romance which I was here for! I love these two so much and I loved watching their HEA unfold. West is an absolute gem and I ADORE this man. ADOREEEEE HIM! Alfie & West have such different personalities but they balance each other out so perfectly.

I will NEVER grow tired of Cara's books. I literally end up binging them every single time because I just can't stop reading. She's one of the best to ever do it.

-mafia
-found family

Ever so slightly disappointing. Alfie and West got together far too quickly after the end of the first part. I also didn't like the plot so much this time. Apart from that, I'm pretty happy. Alfie and West were absolutely fantastic.

okay ending

Not like I warmed up to West in this better than in the previous book but this was an okay book.

More likely I enjoyed seeing more of Shan and Kellan who are my faves.

Everything else was an add-on I guess. Also, solid writing, the storyline just needed something else.

I loved the first book in the series, and the second one was not so far.

The story pivots around Alfie and West's relationship and how they both come to terms with their new lifestyle choices.

Alfie totally cracked me up with how he tricked West into giving them another shot. But by the end, it was West who completely stole my heart!

Ella was hands down my favourite; so dramatic and adorable. And that bromance between Shane and West was quite entertaining!

That said, I was hoping for a little more of the mafia elements, and a few parts of the plot felt a bit repetitive. Plus, my feelings about Alfie are complicated. I love his rugged personality, but I wish he had more conviction in his choices.

Still, despite those little gripes, this book was a solid read and a superb wrap-up to the duet!

I skimmed most of the second half. I just lost interest. I skipped the whole warehouse fiasco because I didn't care, and didn't need to see West turn into some kind of gangster. So many things about this couple kind of bug me.

- The whole 'papi' thing makes me cringe, especially because literally nothing else about Alfie denotes any Hispanic heritage. I'm not talking about his mother, I'm talking about him. He literally uses no other Spanish words, but we just sprinkle Papi all over the place. Yuck.

- West calling Alfie 'boy' and 'baby boy' - double cringe. I was reminded (found out?) in this book that there is an age difference between them. Totally don't see it, like I do with Shan and Kellan whom I love, and who make me swoon when Shan calls Kellan 'boy'.

- Sweetheart, honey, and other pet names. They just don't work. I don't know why. I know that men can be gooey and loving with each other, but with this couple it just doesn't fit.

- F bombs when speaking to their parents and their children. Huh??

- I loved Trip and Colby. Ellie, meh. Would have preferred a puppy (ha!) but I get it. Shorty was cool :)

I don't know. West's whole journey from 'reticent about the mafia' to 'mafia wonder spouse' should have been great; the author took time building the steps, but it just didn't ring true to me, and got boring fast. West's conversation with his mother should have made me like him more, but alas. YOU allowed your family to treat Alfie like that, Sir! You don't get to turn around and look down on your mother, and curse at her and dismiss her like she's trash. Ugh. I don't know. Make no mistake. I don't like his family, but that whole scene felt disingenuous.

I did love Alfie's mom coming around to the Irish side of the family, the whole familial feeling at the end. The family interactions are the best part of the book.

Looking forward to Detective Hanna's book, especially since these two will be secondary characters.

The second half of Alfie is here! I'm always excited to score an ARC from Cara because she's one of my favorite authors, and her stories never disappoint.

We're back in Philly with Alfie and the rest of the Sons of Munster. We left Alfie broken hearted at the end of book one, and his heart has to hurt a little while longer before he (and we!) get some relief.

One of the biggest themes of this book is definitely family. Alfie has really been enveloped in the family of Finn and Liam and the others, and he's finally feeling like he's found his *place*. And West refuses to get in the way of that. Which, good. Alfie deserves to feel good in his skin and like he belongs.

In book one, Alfie went through a lot of growth, recognizing where he was to blame in their divorce, and the multiple personalities he's been flipping through for the past few years. In book two, it's West's turn to have some revelations. He does a lot of reflecting when it comes to his morals and his high horses. Start of book one West would probably be horrified by end of book two West. But I'm glad for it.

I'm not sure I really liked what drove those changes though. The storyline with Alfie's mom wasn't my favorite. It just felt...off. I don't know, but it didn't feel like it fit the rest of the story. This could be because splitting the book into two parts already makes it feel disjointed to me so maybe this added storyline just made it more so.

I loved when Alfie and West finally got together. They battled hard this whole duet to get past their issues, and I really felt like they earned their HEA.

Overall, I think I liked book one more than this second book though. Mostly because of the storyline around Alfie's mom.

Alfie: Part II was everything I wanted and more. Cara Dee delivers a stunning conclusion to Alfie and West’s story, packed with emotion, intense family bonds, and the perfect balance of heartache and healing.

After the devastation at the end of Part I, this book picks up right where we left off, and the emotional weight is real. Alfie and West are both struggling, but it’s clear they still love each other deeply. The push and pull between them, the unspoken feelings, and the undeniable chemistry had me completely hooked. Watching them work through their pain and finally find their way back to each other was so rewarding.

One thing I absolutely loved about this book was its strong focus on family. The Sons of Munster aren’t just a mafia, they’re Alfie’s home, his people, and they’ll do whatever it takes to protect their own.

West’s character development really shines in Part II. If book one was about Alfie’s growth, this one is about West finally coming to terms with his own fears and learning to fight for what he truly wants. Seeing him drop his walls and accept the love and chaos that comes with Alfie and his world was everything.

This was the perfect conclusion to Alfie and West’s journey. Their love story is raw, emotional, and beautifully messy in all the best ways. If you love second chances, found family, and a little bit of mafia grit mixed in with your romance, this duet is a must read.

Once again, Cara doesn’t disappoint! This book picks up right where Book One left off, so I highly recommend reading the first book before diving into this one.

I fell in love with Alfie and West's story. Their love for each other is undeniable, but they are still figuring out how to navigate their relationship, especially as West learns that not everything is simply black and white. Their passion is off the charts, and with the help of Finn and Shan, they devise a plan to help them find their way back to each other. Never underestimate the power of found family!

The story takes an emotional turn when Alfie’s mother is assaulted, adding a new layer of depth and showing how fiercely the family protects its own. This moment also plays a crucial role in shifting West's perspective. I especially loved the friendship between West and Shan—they are total besties!

This book delivers chemistry, passion, found family, trust, honesty, second chances, and absolute love. Everything that unfolded from Book One through Book Two built up to a genuinely satisfying HEA (Happily Ever After).

Cara Dee has done it again! I love mafia stories and this author constantly manages to surprise me. Itt held me breathless on the edge of my seat, desperately needing more. I finished the book in one sitting and am not ready to let these characters go at all.

Alfie and West. There are no words for how much I fell for them. They truly embody what it’s like to come from opposite worlds, and yet find a place together. It was more than the insane chemistry between them, but the depth of feelings. Watching them rediscover each other—and in the process find themselves as well—was beautiful.

As always, the family aspect is extremely well done. There is so much to go into here. I love the kids. I adore how Cara Dee gives contrasting, realistic pictures of what families means—the negatives and positives of what a biological family can be and the joy of a found family.

It held me hostage and I devoured it from the first word to the last. The plot was fast paced with plenty of twists. The author layered so many emotions in one book that it was perfect. I can’t wait for more in the series. The Sons of Munster definitely have my heart!

5 stars for an amazingly passionate read!

Dee's characters always feel so real that I'm half convinced I could hop in my car, drive a few hours north to the Philly area, and actually find Alfie and West. These ex-husbands were so close to reconciling at the end of the previous book, but Dee left us on a non-cliffhanger that, while frustrating, made perfect sense for the development of the characters so far in their journey. All bets are off now, though, because sinking (again) to such a dark moment in their relationship finally shows them the work they need to do to reconcile their authentic lives. Dee walks a fine line in her mafia books between glorifying that world and employing the traditional role of fiction to criticize current reality, especially in the United States. Alfie and West's personal arcs are almost more satisfying in this book than their inevitable happily ever after, with an amazing, unexpected (yet utterly perfect in retrospect) twist that made me yell loud enough to scare the cats. (Alfie and West probably heard me in Philadelphia.)

DNF’d at 73%

Book 1 was a heart wrenching story of 2 people navigating divorce when they still loved each other and had to be in each other’s lives for the sake of their 2 children. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 purely because mafia storylines are always a little cringey for me, but the rest was so well written I had no problem rereading this before jumping into book 2.

Book 2 - this book was a struggle. At the end of book 1 we still have West and Alfie separated, although admittedly they still love each other West cannot come to terms with Alfie’s mafia status.

So why, 5 minutes into book 2 are they back together?!?!

Shan’s apparent manipulation went right over my head as it just seemed like any other conversation and I failed to see how this was enough reasoning to change his mind, and not just on the relationship but the whole idea of organised crime.

The story deteriorates rapidly from here as the story feels lacklustre, the MCs relationship struggles swept over and the storyline with both parents just felt shoe horned in to take the story in a certain direction, by 73% I had lost all interest in these characters.

Second in duet (Alfie & West), must be read in order. Second chance. Mature characters. Hurt/comfort. Age gap. Found family. Dual POV.

Picking up right as the first book ended, Alfie and West still remain conflicted about how to reconcile. Luckily, they both refuse to give up on each other and they are willing to sacrifice everything and anything to be together.

I really enjoyed the fact that West finally realizes that he is unable to live without Alfie and nothing matters besides having him in his life, their relationship and family is his number one priority. Also, the honest communication in this book, West especially reassures Alfie how much he treasures him, how important he is, and how he doesn’t want him to change. There is plenty of steam as Alfie and West rebuild, and it was really enjoyable to see their found family expand easily from embracing Alfie, extending that to West as well (I especially like Colby as an addition to their family). It is still clear from page one that Alfie and West have a deeply held love and commitment, with a sweet HEA. 4.5 rounded up

This was a perfect ending to Alfie and West’s story. I have to confess that I knew Part one ended in a cliffhanger of which I’m not a fan. I tend to loose my mind waiting for the rest of the story.

Well Part 1 of Alfie and West’s story was really good, but Part 2 was great. Cara did not disappoint. This book had everything you could want in a true mafia love story. You get the Hurt/Comfort from their relationship. The heart stopping action you hope for and the laughter and some very emotional moments that had me in tears.

I really enjoyed the side characters as well. Alfie’s mom was a handful but a a catholic mom through and through. I read both books back to back and Loved every minute. I highly recommend reading the previous books about the Irish of Philly universe. It gives you a really good understanding of the other characters/members of this family and how they met the loves of their lives. This is a must read because it has everything you could want in a mafia story and more.

Cara Dee has basically written a story that is too big for one book and split it into two parts. I liked the story overall, but I didn’t like this second half quite as much as the first part. I’m not a huge fan of second chance novels, but I love everything that Ms. Dee writes and she did her usual great job of playing with my emotions. She is such a seasoned writer at this point that I don’t think she could write a terrible book even if she tried to.
Alfie and West are characters that I think that anyone who has had a long term relationship can relate to. They just weren’t giving enough time to each other and treasuring their relationship. I liked that she started the book where she did with the two guys having been apart for a while, but still needing to communicate with each other because of the kids and then brought up the past using memories etc. This worked well to keep both the tension and reconciliation going throughout the story. Taken as a whole the two books were a 4.5 for me.

**I am a member of Cara Dee's review team and received an early copy through BookSprout- thank you!**

Cara Dee returns to the Sons of Munster with the continuation of Alfie and West's story with Alfie Part II. Everything in this sequel picks up precisely where we left off in Alfie Part I, which makes it a little harder to discuss.

Alfie and West remain inevitable, of course, and the way that their ultimate re-convening was orchestrated was something that I hadn't expected, but really appreciated. I loved watching West find his footing in Alfie's world and building a home for their entire family together.

More conflict in this installment comes from external sources, whereas more conflict was internal or interpersonal between Alfie and West in part I. The external conflict kept things moving forward while strengthening the bonds of family that were already forming.

Glad, as always, to read this story early and eager for whatever is next from Cara.

Alfie and West are back together. Not without reservations on West’s part though. He is struggling to accept that Alfie has aligned himself with the Sons but he also trusts that Alfie understands there are things he won’t forgive. Alfie has made his peace with what his found family does. Now he needs to integrate both sides of his life into a workable solution for everyone involved.

I really like Shan and Alfie’s bonding. Their chemistry is undeniable, almost sweet. I thought the interactions between the Sons was funny, especially the group chat. I thought the Sons insistence on attending church kind of unusual. Kill somebody on Saturday and go to church on Sunday to ask forgiveness.

Something I really wasn’t expecting, oddly enough, gave the book a rightness and cemented Alfie and West’s reunion.

I liked the characters and the author once again gave the reader a book to remember.

I was disappointed with Alfie Part 2. While I was hoping for a deeper, more suspenseful continuation, the story felt mostly superficial and lacked the tension I expected. One of my biggest issues was West; his character just didn’t feel believable. He had such a strong aversion to Alfie being a Son and forbade him from , and he did it effortlessly, without a hint of panic.

I expected this to have major consequences for their relationship, but instead, they both seemed completely unbothered by it. That lack of emotional depth made the story fall flat for me. By the time I got to the last chapter and the epilogues, I had lost interest and didn’t even bother reading them. Told in dual POV, 1st person, it should be read in order. All in all, it didn’t live up to my expectations but I hope you enjoy it more than me!

A fantastic follow up book to part one. After a tumultuous reunion in the first part this is a little less rocky as West and Alfie find their footing navigating Alfie’s role in the Sons of Munster. The slow acceptance and figuring out life isn’t all black and white was very realistic and relatable. Cara expertly handles the rougher and grittier side of the life without it becoming an all out bloodbath. I think that, romance aside, it goes ask the reader where the line of your morality is. How far would you go for family? The very same question that the character haggle and struggle throughout part two. Though the story is gently cushioned with enough romance to smooth out any rough edges. This was an excellent addition to the Sons of Munster series. And I am very much looking forward to the next book in the series.

Alfie part 2 is the second book in this duology. It starts where the first book ended and can't be read as a standalone. I'm not going to spoil anything in this review.
This series was such an emotional roller-coaster. My heart melted every time there was a sweet scene between West and Alfie, I smiled when they had family moments with their kids, I cried when sth bad happened, I got frustrated when they acted reckless and I loved every single minute. I love it when a book makes me feel so many things, when I get so invested in the story that I worry like the characters are real people. And Alfie and West were real to me and I cared deeply for both of them and their family.
This was the perfect conclusion to Alfie and West's story. I highly recommend this duology.

You need to have ready Part 1 before you read Part 2.

This continues from where Cara left us. I love the dynamic between these 2 guys, and in this book you will be taken on a roller coaster of emotions. Not really with the interaction between West & Alfie but with other characters and how the guys handle it. Of Course we will see a lot of the making up and how they deal with combining their lives again.
There is a scene towards the end of the book that is totally shocking, and will have you shouting "WHAT" just happened.
I can't wait to see glimpse of West & Alfie in future books, just like I love seeing glimpses of the rest of the "Philly" crew.

I still can’t believe how this is my first full length Cara Dee story.
Her characters are so utterly captivating.

I’ve always avoided reading a story with an established couple cos I always assumed watching two people fall in love for the first is where it’s at.

But Alfie and West falling in love again had me in an absolute chokehold.
They are absolute fire together.

Their little family was so beautiful.

I can’t remember ever reading a story before where I didn’t have to say to myself, I wish he’d said this, or I wish he’d done that.

This author creates characters and conversations so real that sometimes I wondered if she’s hiding in my closet, eavesdropping.

This right here, is an absolute must-read.
