Dead Valentine

St. Valentine's University holds a dark secret.

Apparently, so does my family.

I’ve known since childhood the dark and disturbing things my father was involved in. But it wasn’t until later that I learned about my estranged uncle - a man who inspired my ambitions and led me to St. Valentines University, the prestigious alma mater he shared with my dad.

I’ve heard about the things that take place here. Whispers of sinister events weave through its halls, feeding my obsession with death. There’s so much I want to know, to learn, but I have to tread carefully among the elite who rule the school. I already have enough problems with those who wish they could be them. The bullying I endured at home hasn’t stopped here, at least they don’t touch me like he did.

Lately, I’ve been receiving strange gifts - sketches and tokens of my favorite things. My stalker. My misfit. By all logic, I should be terrified. But I’m not. His presence is unsettling, yes, but it’s also a kind of comfort I’ve never felt before. On Valentine’s Day, he gave me something far more a gift that revealed more secrets about my family.

Is this why I am the way I am? Nature or nurture - it’s the question I can’t escape.

We’re a psychologist’s wet dream, after all.

ARC Reading St. Valentine's series.

Most of this book is a found manuscript a secret admirer gifts. This particular novella is definitely full of triggers that I would highly recommend checking before reading. This one also ends of a cliffy where I crave more!

I ♥️ this one ifykyk 🤣 I have read K. Illers’ books before, so I’m aware of her writing and this one did not disappoint me.

It starts off with Emery and her misfit with a little background before we are sent into the past of her Uncle Corbin Moriarty and his predilection for corpses 💀 That ending…😈

Totally enjoyed this one, love me a bit of deleting and autopsies with a distinctness 🫦🩸🔪

Woah!

This book was a quick and easy read, but her uncle’s manuscript left me shook! I ate this book up and left no crumbs and when it ended I was wishing for more from our main characters!

This was definitely dark and twisty…that being said I loved this story so much. I didn’t expect the story to focus Emrey’s uncle, but it definitely kept me hooked (please check triggers). Such a contrast from the darkness of Corbin to what the sweetness of Misfit and Emrey’s interaction…even if he is a st@lker (it does count if she’s okay with it, right? 🫣). That ending killed me, I hope there is more of these two because otherwise 💀.

This book was so well written with the POV’s but I was not a fan of her uncle’s manuscript. That part of the book had me cringing a lot. It’s a dark read so be prepared!!

This book is the seventh of the St. Valentines series and wow this one started of with Emery and her secret admirer named Misfit. Misfit watch over Emery and provided her with gifts but she still don’t know who he is, she excited to bond with someone because everything thinks she is a freak. Misfit gifts Emery a manuscript of her uncles and then the story talks about the past when her uncle used to go to SVU. Uncle Corbin had a preference when it comes to his sexual needs, be aware TW, read them. I didn’t think ill like this book as much as I did but I enjoyed the darkness of it, even though it was out in the open more done behind closed doors.

I don’t know where to begin with this one. I really don’t! I’m gobsmacked! For me personally it’s a 3 star but the writing is definitely a 4 star so 3.5 stars it is for the seventh book in the St. Valentines interconnected novella series.

It definitely had the dark part of dark romance ticked off. If you can really call it romance 🤔
It was so well written and I loved the parts between Emrey and her misfit, I would have loved more of them but her uncle’s manuscripts were just weird for me. Again so well written but wtf Corbin 😳 I feel like leaving us wfting was k. Iller’s whole plan here and she succeeded.

Dead Valentine is really twisted! Very dark! I liked the family background aspect of this story, but I hope we get more of Emrey and her Misfit!! I need to know who "he" is! (Or maybe I already do? I love how these stories intertwine!!)

Hearts you say! Welcome to the mortuary, Valentine’s! I needed some of Corbin's back story. Bleeding Hearts was just the tip. Dead Valentine makes you learn to swim through the ice. Definitely recommend but I also recommend checking the menu first. This is very dark but soooo worth it! G*g reflex activated with this one!

Wow. Trigger warnings folks! Trigger. Warnings. ⚠️ This has got to be the darkest book of the series so far! Oh. My. Lanta! 🤯

Who is Misfit!? Oh my gosh! I really want to know! It began with introducing Emery and as people called her freak. Nothing like bullying in a dark book. Enters Misfit. I've got ideas on who he is but I'm just trying to wrap my head around what I just read. I absolutely devoured it but kinda got stuck on finishing it. I pushed through it though!

So who wants an all expense paid tuition to St Valentines!?

This is my honest review for the ARC!

St. Valentine's University holds a dark secret...

St. Valentine's isn't the only place where secrets are held. Her own family holds some very deep and dark secrets.

Her father has been involved in dark, shady, and even disturbing things, and she's known about it since she was a child, and she's known what he was involved in. She was able to avoid learning about her estranged uncle though till she was older. When she met him, he almost took her under his wing, leading her to St. Valentine's University, his prestigious Alma Mater, one he actually shared with her dad.

She knows all about the things that happens at St. Valentine's University, she's heard all about the prestigious university. She hasn't been deaf to the whispers that swirl around her. The sinister events float through the halls, feeding her obsession with death. She wants to know so much more, but she knows that she has to be careful among all the elite students who think they rule the school.

She knew she already had enough problems. There were so many students who wanted to be one of the elite students wishing they were on the top. She had been bullied at home, enduring it with quiet strength, and she now faces it here at St. Valentine's. The only thing she's thankful for is that they don't touch her like he did.

Strange things, small gifts have started to appear, and she knows without a doubt that they are for her, sketches and tokens of her favorite things, and she soon realizes that she has a stalker. Her own misfit.

She knows that she should be terrified by all logic. For reasons she can't explain, she's not terrified. Yes, his presence is unsettling, but at the same time, she feels comforted by it, one that she's never felt before. And then, on Valentine's Day, he gives her a gift that she never saw coming. A gift that revealed secrets she never knew about her family, secrets she never imagined were hidden.

Is she the way she is because of nature or nurture? It's the question she can't escape.

Together and separate, they are a psychologist's wet dream.
Dead Valentine is an MF story that takes place in St. Valentine's University, a shared world. This story is only intended for readers 18+. Please read the trigger and content warnings prior to reading as there are triggering events that can trigger some readers.

Please note that Dead Valentine is book 7 in the St. Valentine's University Series.

This novella is so very dark and twisted, but it's still really very interesting with spice that is very enjoyable. K.ller spent a lot of time paying attention to descriptions and to details that were important to the story and the overall plot.

The multi POV's gave you so much more insight to the inner thoughts, feels, and explanations to their actions, and they were so well written, making it so well written.

What honestly really surprised me about this book was that the majority of this book was about the past and was from her uncle's POV. It didn't really focus on our FMC and her stalker which I found to be an interesting take on the book. But, despite this, I still found this to be a great read. No matter how dark it was, the plot just brings you in and keeps you reeled in. You get this great balance between the sweet moments between Emery and her stalker and then the darker chapters from her uncle's POV. It was just a great read and a great addition to this series.

Emery is not your typical FMC, and I haven't read a lot of books with an FMC like her, but I loved her character. She doesn't back down when she puts her mind to what she wants and where she wants to study when her father tries to push back. She is a strong, intelligent, curious, strong-willed FMC, and I think all of that is what leads her to her friend of study. And she had to be strong to have endured everything she did at home and then what she had to endure at St. Valentine's.

I found it amazing that her stalker was able to figure out exactly who she was and what she loved. And I loved the small gifts that he left for her. The exchanges they had were so sweet, in my opinion. Their connection was just sweet, and it built up, and they accepted each other, and more than that, they understood one another. And that ending, I want more of their story. I really hope we get more of it in future books. Even if they are just side characters.

Uncle Corbin is sick, dark, and has this twisted mind that makes me shudder at moments. In reading his chapters, you get this look into how he feels and really thinks. His chapters are so well described and explained, and this lets you understand how he really feels and thinks. I actually found his relationship with his brother rather interesting, and in reading his chapters, you actually get the chance to see how different these two men really are. Again, make sure you read those trigger warnings as the gore in his chapters can be rather triggering for some readers.

Emery's Stalker/Misfit is just such a sweetheart, and in reading their chapters, you can tell that he really knows Emery and really cares about her, and he cares about her for who she is. I was left wanting to know so much more about him and who he really was. The small gifts and notes left me wondering about the relationship that he has with Corbin and how they know each other, and how deep they are in with each other. I want to know about his character and where his story with Emery is going to go, especially with the cliffhanger that we are left with. I was left breathless after the last page, I just wanted to know more.

Again, I wish that this had been a full-length novel as there were so many unanswered questions.

Be warned this novella is so very dark, gory, and really very twisted with lots and lots of spice. But, I loved the spice with the descriptions and explanations of all the characters' thoughts and their feelings.

I would recommend this book and this entire series. It is such a great read and is very entertaining. You will not regret reading this series.

Dead Valentine was a very, very dark, twisted, but interesting read with spice. There is also a lot of attention to descriptions and details! I enjoyed the two pov’s, and I feel like the character’s inner thoughts, feelings, and explanations of them were very well written. I was surprised that most of the book was about what happened in the past from her uncle’s pov and didn’t particularly focus on the fmc & her stalker themselves, but I still thought it was a great read! Even though this was very dark, it had a plot that reeled you in. The balance between the sweet moments with Emrey & her stalker, and the dark chapters from her uncle’s pov made for a good read 💙

Emrey was a different type of fmc than I’m used to reading about, but I really liked her character! She didn’t back down about what she wanted to study at uni when her father pushed back, and I love a strong fmc who can stand up for herself. Her uncle and his interests piqued her curiosity, and that’s what ended up leading her to the field of study she chose. She is also incredibly strong for what she’s endured in her life and while at school. She has a stalker that knows just what she loves, and their exchanges with one another were really sweet 🖤 He gives her little gifts, notes, and pieces of his artwork, and I really liked their connection and how they built each other up and accepted & understood one another. With the way the last chapter ended, I am really hoping that we will get to see more of their story 💙

Uncle Corbin has a really dark & twisted mind, and reading his chapters gave a really great insight into how he feels and thinks. I thought it was very well described and explained, and you really got a feel for his true feelings and thoughts. His relationship with his brother was also interesting to read about and to get see their differences! There was a lot of gore within his chapters, so make sure to check your triggers!!!🩸

Emrey’s misfit was so sweet and you can tell that he really cares about & truly knows Emrey, and sees her for who she really is. He has me dying to know more about so much. The little clues that he dropped within his note & gift to her has me eager to learn more about his relationship with Corbin in particular. I am also really interested to know more about his character and where his & Emrey’s story is going to go after that major cliffhanger! My jaw was on the floor and I couldn’t believe it was the last page, I wanted more so badly at the end. 🖤

This was a very dark, gory, and twisted read with lots of spice, but it had a really good plot with great descriptions and explanations of the character’s thoughts & feelings. I definitely would recommend this book, however make sure to check your triggers!! I really hope we get to find out more about Emrey & her misfit, because I feel like their story is only just beginning 💙

Where do I begin with *Dead Valentine* by K. Iller? I give this a solid 3.5 stars. As someone who enjoys super dark literature, I found that this book hit the mark in terms of intensity and atmosphere. However, I was left yearning for the romance that is typically a staple in the other books of the joint series. Instead, this installment leans heavily into pure, unadulterated smut, overshadowing what could have been a compelling romantic subplot.

The story takes place at St. Valentine’s University, a setting steeped in mystery and chilling secrets. The protagonist carries the burden of a troubled family history—she knows her father was involved in dark deeds, but it’s the revelations about her estranged uncle that propel her to this elite institution. The blurb sets the tone perfectly: whispers of sinister events echo through the university’s halls, creating an environment that fuels her obsession with death and the macabre.

Iller’s writing captures the claustrophobic tension of the elite social circles and the bullying that persists at the university. The protagonist grapples not only with her past but also with the sinister gifts she receives from her “misfit” stalker, a character who adds an unsettling yet intriguing layer to the narrative. The complexity of her feelings toward him—fear mixed with comfort—provides a captivating emotional conflict that leaves readers questioning the nature of love and obsession.

While I appreciate the depth of the psychological themes present, I couldn’t help but feel that the absence of romance diminished the overall impact of the story. Yes, it’s a deep dive into a world filled with darkness, but a touch of romance could have deepened the emotional stakes and added some much-needed contrast.

Overall, *Dead Valentine* is for those who enjoy dark thrillers interspersed with erotic elements, but readers seeking a balance of romance may come away a bit disappointed. If you're prepared for a gripping exploration of psychological complexity wrapped in smutty intrigue, this book could be worth your time.

so you like unaliving?☠️ mixed with smut hm??

this one shocked me too my core! i read all of the triggers and not going to lie i was FLOORED and didn't think id end up liking this one because so much gore & necrophillia shocked me to no end🤪

that being said this is a first of k.iller's books and i actually really liked it! and i defintely think an author i would go back too for more goodness too!! it's written really well and is a nice change up from the usual 'romance' aspect of this series so far! for this being book 7,we have met a lot of the characters already but corbin by far is the craziest! i loved that we got like a snippet of emersyn & her misfit but then it was primarily focused on corbin as his story,i feel like their is definitely more too him & although crazy he is intriguing! i loved meeting colsen too,but i do fear they hate each other lol🤭

it was such an easy novella to read and it really felt nice to just sit down and just dive in,it doesn't take much thinking or really much like brain power, you can just get lost in it! it's a one you can go like damn😳 most of the way through🥹😂

rates??

characters?? 4.5⭐️ i love emersyn and she reminded me a lot of myself,a young girl who gets bullied and i also love she isn't like all the others girls! she's different! & corbin although he is INSANE it is actually incredible to read such a gorey, graphic story and not be like sick to my stomach (maybe im fucked up lol)

plot? 5⭐️ such a great detailed plot, with a heavy focus on plot over smut which i loved!! it's super detailed so we get an inside look in all of the details and it adds to the expierence for sure!!!

smut? 🌶️🌶️🌶️ not super smutty but a fair warning and check the tw's... the smut is fucked up,it's weird! it's also v detailed so like could gross you out for sure! didn't for me though lol

overall?? 4⭐️ loved this one! would defintely read more into emersyn, corbin and misfits story if k.iller chooses to write more about these guys!!

This book focuses in on Emery who is at the university studying mortuary since since learning that her uncle who she has never met studied in the same field. She is surrounded by death and is completely fascinated by it, because of that it makes her an easy target by the mean girls. There is one person who understands her and that is her mystery misfit boy who she thinks it is Kieran but hasn’t confirmed it yet. They have talked virtually and they are getting each other little gifts that they know each other will greatly treasure.

The gift she got for Valentines was the manuscript that her uncle was writing before he died. Let’s just say her uncle Corbin has some pretty messed up secrets that should have remained in his head and not written on paper in black and white. We learn that his fascination with death went much further than she would ever go. Corbin took his obsession with dead people to a new level when he decides to get intimate with Cara’s corpse. He hung out with her one time and did some pretty disturbing things and made sure to leave no trace or reason for Cara think something happened when she was unconscious. His half brother is always set out to destroy him but Corbin is always one step ahead, so when he sees Cara with a noose around her neck he is unfazed. Colson kills her which turns Corbin on and thinks he has proof to show he is a sick freak but Corbin takes it and spins it so Corbin tucks tail and leaves. This all we learn about from the manuscript.

Emery is a little unnerved by the manuscript but she knows that she is not as messed up as her uncle. She knows she has dark thought but when it comes to acting on those thoughts during sex she has yet to act on. We end with Emery learning that Kieran is her misfit and something bad has occurred. I would really like to hear about them but I am also curious about Uncle Corbins manuscript, is it finished or is there more to the script?

"Gee, Emrey, why do you think people call you a freak?"

This book is classified as Erotic Horror, and is book seven of a shared world series. It does have a trigger warning list: mentions of pedo, hebe, teleio, stalking, secret admirer, mast, erotic self-mutilation, forced hanging, drooging, drink, voyeruism, exhibitionism, necro, desecration of human remains, unaliving, SA, occult mentioned, somno, infidelity, missing persons, secret society, bullying, blud play, sadism, masochism, piquerism, staged offing onself, incest, self-harm, degradation, gore, NONCON, anxiety, overstimulation, threats, intimidation, violence, trama, unalive play, dark humor.

The book is written in first person. This book has multiple point of views: Emrey and Corbin. Emrey is majoring in Mortuary Science and has a fascination with death. She has an admirer and gets gifted notes from her uncle, Corbin Moriarty. Most of the book follows Corbin, as if you're reading his notes he made.

I gave this book four stars. The reason behind that is due to how it ended. It ended like it will be continued in the future, but it is a part of a series involving multiple other authors. I think the author should have just written the entirety of the book and published it, instead of a snippet and then go with it.

Dead Valentine by K. Iller is the seventh book in the St. Valentines series. While it shares the St. Valentines world, it can also be read as a standalone.

This book holds a unique place within the interconnected series. It follows FMC Emrey, who discovers an old diary belonging to her uncle, Corbin. A large portion of the story is told through this diary. MMC Corbin, like Emrey, is a mortuary student—but he has some rather unconventional desires and an undeniable "fascination" with the dead 😜

The ending remains open. I have a theory about who might be dead, but I’d truly love a continuation of this story—especially to learn more about Emrey and her relationship with the other MMC, her mysterious "misfit."

Dead Valentine was an intense and gripping short read, and I enjoyed every single page of it. Though I have to say—the smut was deeply disturbing…

Spice Rating: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ /5

Tropes & What to Expect:

• Mortuary student FMC, frequently bullied by her peers
• Mortuary student MMC with particular desires
• Hidden identity of the other MMC
• Necrophilia
• Murder
• Dual POVs

I loved this novella. I really enjoyed the necrophilia aspects (as I have never read something like that before and I found it very interesting) and it was very well written. I was a little confused by the ending and I wish there would have been more present tense scenes. It would have been a five star read but I am dropping a whole star because of my experience with the authors PA or company they use to distribute the ARCs ( I’m not exactly sure who finally got in contact with me). I was supposed to receive this ARC several weeks ago and messaged the provided email to have them send it and did not receive an email from them until today. Nearly three weeks after my first email with another one reiterating the information from the initial email. All I received was a “here you go” and the link, which I found to be very unprofessional. Other than that the ARC was fantastic and I would most definitely read more by this author if I didn’t have to go through the hassle of trying to contact their team.

For me this was the story of the St. Valentine's series (to date) that left the most lasting impact upon me. I should have picked up with the title where this was going to go but also not a kink I have come across before, so curiosity got the best of me. Triggers people just read them! Perhaps too as an Author I have not read other works of, left me curious and a little intrigued to how this was going to pan out. Like the previous titles in this series it is good to understand that they are basically like an introduction to a much bigger plot as there is always more questions that you are left asking but still getting an entertaining read at the same time. My one piece of advice would really never step close to the St. Valentine university grounds full stop if you are sent an invitation to study there but as a reader still take precautions to ensure your own mental health.

I want to warn you now please check your triggers. This book is dark and it definetly crosses some morally grey lines that some people may find extreme or not to their liking. If you have no triggers then buckle up butter cup because this book will take you on a ride. Now the other tidbit of warning is that the story can be a tad bit confusing until you realize what the author was doing. The story starts out with Emery and you hear about her in some of the previous stories. She gets a manuscript left from her uncle. The story shifts to the manuscript so you learn about the uncle. Then it goes back to real time. This is where the confusion kind of comes into play. It is not until after the manuscript that you realize its a story within as story. The author did a great job of keeping you engaged and pushing the envelop on what is morally acceptable.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR TRIGGER WARNINGS BEFORE DIVING INTO THIS BOOK BECAUSE IT IS A VERY DARK BOOK AND MIGHT NOT BE FOR EVERYONE!!!

This Book is about Emery the fmc and her mysterious Misft the mmc they talk online through a chat website or app. Misfit gives Emery a gift and she can't open it to midnight. Then it turns into a manuscript about Emery's uncle that she ends up reading to find out more about him and his fascination with being a mortician as well as why Emery is so fascinated with it.

I am giving it a 4 stars because it did keep a little bit of interest for me I would have loved to see more from Emery and Misfit than more of a manuscript type of reading. This does end on a cliff hanger so we will see what happens next the next book with Emery and Misfit. There is a good plot and the spice is very dark and different so again PLEASE CHECK YOUR TRIGGER WARNINGS!!!

This is the seventh book in the St. Valentines series. Each book is written by a different author and each book has been so amazing! I knew I needed to read this series to the end.
This story was nowhere near morally grey…it was more pitch black or beyond black…I am not sure what is worse than morally grey! I could not get enough of this story!
The FMC was unlike any female character I have ever encountered before. The MMC is such a psycho stalker. And we won’t even touch on some of the characters in this book. The story left me hanging onto a cliff with my fingernails! I need more of this story!
Thank you, K. Iller for a wonderfully depraved and crazy book! This is my first time reading one of your books and I cannot wait to read more! I also cannot wait until the conclusion of this story comes out!

This is the seventh book in the St. Valentine's and this one is DARK! I was actually quite surprised I liked it a lot. Emery likes anything and everything about crimes and death. She finds out her dad had a brother who was a little on the weird side. She gets his manuscript from "her misfit", as she calls him. It's about his time at St. Valentine's and his weird sexual obsession with corpses. It was actually pretty interesting and not something I thought I would be able to stomach. He starts working at the morgue for personal reasons and then his brother figures out what a creep he is. Emery still wants to find out everything that happened and then she bumps into "her misfit"and it seems like it ends on a cliffhanger, but it could be subjective.

Wow was this dark. I found this to be a really entertaining read. I loved that we meet Kieran(who had a brief scene with Maddox from the first book)again. And I really liked Emery as a character too. And while it was very dark and disturbing, I enjoyed the look into Emery's uncles past through his manuscript.

That ending may or may not be considered a cliffhanger depending on how you look at it. I think I know who Kieran was talking about, and I hope there's another book coming out that will expand more on that and explore more of Kieran and Emery's relationship. But all in all, I found this to be a very entertaining read.

Definitely check the trigger warnings for this one. It is very dark and the warnings aren't to be taken lightly.
