A merchant girl with a life of freedom. A young man who just wants to settle down. A journey through three enchanted kingdoms.
As a roving merchant—or peddler, as many call her—Avery lives a life of freedom that few ever experience. She can navigate the enchanted landscapes of six kingdoms, and she’s an expert at finding unique items and matching them with the right customer. If her traveling lifestyle means she doesn’t have any close friends, at least she can help communities in need. And it’s worth it not to be tied down. She might be alone, but that doesn’t mean she’s lonely.
Elliot would love to be tied to his birth kingdom like most people. Such a restriction might be limiting, but it would be better than being bound to a candelabra—especially once that candelabra gets stolen. With his life on the line, Elliot has to find it—or whatever is left of it.
The last thing Avery wants is a pesky stowaway on her cross-kingdom rescue mission—especially not one who claims he’s bound to one of the items in her cart. Elliot is equally unhappy to be trailing her through the kingdoms—he’s sick of traveling and ready to put down roots. But Avery has promised to help free him from the ties binding him, and he’s willing to make a final journey if it means being free of the candelabra. He’ll just have to make sure his heart doesn’t form its own tie with his beautiful traveling companion. Should be easy, right?
Ties of Legacy is book one in Tethered Hearts, a multi-author series of no spice fantasy romances. Each standalone story features a magical bond that forces the couple to discover how much they’re willing to sacrifice for the sake of love.
This standalone story is set in the world of Melanie Cellier’s Kingdoms of Legacy series.
Melanie Cellier grew up on a staple diet of books, books and more books. And although she got older, she never stopped loving children’s and young adult novels. She always wanted to write one herself, but it took three careers and three different continents before she actually managed it.
She now feels incredibly fortunate to spend her time writing from her home in Adelaide, Australia where she keeps an eye out for koalas in her backyard. Her staple diet hasn’t changed much, although she’s added choc mint Rooibos tea and Chicken Crimpies to the list.
She writes young adult fantasy including her Spoken Mage series, and her Four Kingdoms and Beyond the Four Kingdoms series which are made up of linked stand-alone stories that retell classic fairy tales.
I was so incredibly excited for this book after reading “Legacy of Roses” and adoring that book! We briefly hear about and see Avery in that book, so I’ve been super curious about her story! I haven’t read many of Melanie Cellier’s non-fairytale retellings, but because this one is connected to a fairytale world, it felt similar to one. I would personally suggest reading “Legacy of Roses” first as it explains more about the world/setting of this series. You could read this one first, but you might get bogged down with trying to keep all the places/kingdoms and their Legacies straight.
This rarely happens, but I was so into this book that I forgot to make notes as I read on different parts 😅😂 Usually I’ll pause and make notes and comments, but I barely did with this book because I didn’t want to put it down! 😁
I really liked both Avery and Elliot! They had their quirks and perhaps a few flaws as well, but I greatly enjoyed them and seeing their thought processes. They both felt like very fleshed out characters because of this and I really loved how the ending went!! (I was smiling and kicking my feet in the air while reading if that gives you any idea 😂) The fact they were friends first before any romantic feels started was icing on the cake for me. Okay, to be fair, she thinks he’s a thief at first (second and third) meeting(s), but it was a very natural thought and natural progression.
I was grinning like a absolute ninny towards the end that my cheeks were hurting as I read the final page! 😂 I ordered my physical copy before I even finished the book and am now stalking the mailbox. 👀
As a note, I almost feel like you could call this a non-magical fantasy? Magic is never said or used in the way of spells or casting or such elements. The Legacies are the echoes of the curse from the original fairytale of the kingdom and are trying to recreate the original tale. For example, in one kingdom, roses are the only flower that grows and tries to protect beasts in a forest (nods to Beauty and the Beast), another has mirrors that are able to reflect a person’s true emotions (nod to The Snow Queen), and a third one has unnervingly large mice and enormous pumpkins (Cinderella). Perhaps that is magic, but it’s not the usual broad form of it that you see often in fairytale retellings. I like this more—even though it takes a bit to wrap your brain around—because it’s unique and gives a reason for everything besides saying “oh, it’s because of ✨ magic ✨”. I can’t wait for May and the next book in the series to be released!
Main Content- This book is connected to and apart of the “Kingdoms of Legacy” series and world by this author; In this world, there are six kingdoms that are all connected to an original fairytale and because of the remains of the curse or enchantment, the force of it (called “the Legacy”) is always trying to recreate the original story (but the people involved are not guaranteed a happy ending); It’s noted that the Legacy is not a person and is a “force that works to run each kingdom according to that kingdom’s history”; Those who leave their birth kingdoms usually have a side effect or burden by doing so (such as falling asleep standing up which is connected to the Sleeping Beauty Legacy); Avery and her family are able to be roving merchants because they have no tie to any kingdom because of an ancestor.
While usually everyone is tied to a kingdom, because of special circumstances, Elliot is tied to a candelabra and if it is away from him, he is in pain instantly and gets worse the father away he is (including dizziness, nausea, a splitting headache, weak legs, and it gets so strong it’s noted he could probably die); *Spoilers* .
Pain (up to a handful of sentences); Being abducted & drugged (up to a few sentences); Holding someone at knife-point (and being held) & threatening someone (and being threatened); Being pushed into a river & saving a child from drowning (up to a few sentences); A fire, smoke, & helping others (up to a handful of sentences); *Spoiler* .
Elliot plans to steal back his candelabra (as it was stolen from him and feels guilt about it, but plans to leave plenty of coin to cover the item).
Both Avery & Elliot have grief over the deaths of their parent/parents; Avery has a few moments of grief and sadness over the thought of not having a sibling or a group of childhood friends; Elliot’s mother is very selfish and manipulative and he has anger towards her and the decisions she made that affected him (it’s said and implied they have an antagonistic relationship; He says she’s an expert at guilt and manipulation; He doesn’t know where she is and has no desire to know).
No major language, instead words like “blast/blasted” and “drat” are used and a few mentions of curses (which are said, but not written out); Some eye rolling.
Many mentions of pain, injuries, blood/bleeding, & possible death; Many mentions of thieves, thefts, stealing, & planning to steal; Mentions of deaths (including of parents) & grief; Mentions of a fire, it almost causing major harm, & possible deaths; Mentions of an abduction, kidnappers, being tied-up, & being held at knife-point; Mentions of a beast/creature that is killing people; Mentions of bullies & fights (including a young Elliot getting picked on and fighting); Mentions of lies, lying, & liars; A few mentions of throwing up; A few mentions of nightmares; A couple mentions of a child-eating dragon (used to scare children, not real); A mention of a wife walking away from her marriage; A mention of jealousy; A mention of a taproom.
2 kisses with no details, 1 kiss lasting a sentence, 2 kisses lasting a few sentences; Remembering a kiss (up to a couple sentences); Wanting to kiss (a sentence); A bit of staring at lips (up to a sentence).
Touches, Embraces, Hand holding, a bit of snuggling (under a sleeping herb’s influence), Warmth, Shivers/Sparks, & Nearness (up to a few sentences); Remembering touches & embraces (up to a few sentences); A few blushes & winks; Noticing (including muscles, up to a couple sentences).
Due to circumstances with the candelabra/lamp, Elliot sleeps in the same room as Avery, but nothing happens (they take turns sharing the bed); A little girl follows Elliot around with stars in her eyes (which Avery finds assuming at first and Elliot feels awkward about).
Mentions of kisses & kissing; A couple mentions of Avery having dreams where Elliot appears; A mention of jealousy.
Fairytale vibes, romance, adventure, mystery, secrets....I had a great time with this book!
The two MCs are great, quirky characters--that you fully get to appreciate due to the dual POVs. The concept of the Legacy tying the MMC to a candelabra (so much so that he weakens without it) was so interesting and unique. One of my favorite characters was Frank for comedic relief.
I wish a few things could have been explained better or given more detail. For example, Nutmeg is not an ordinary horse but we don't get an explanation why.
Note: Although this is in the Teathered Hearts series, read Legacy of Roses first to get a better understanding of the world building. There's also a cross-over scene that will make a lot more sense.
I especially enjoyed the adventure and traveling aspects so that we see multiple Kingdoms and get glimpses of possible future story lines.
Content: grief from parental deaths, kidnapping/threatening
Christian faith rating: 0/3 clean with no language
This was so cute! The plot drew me in from the beginning. I enjoyed the adventures the characters found themselves in, and the sweet romance. Avery and Eliot were adorable! I look forward to reading more in the series.
This entire story was absolutely ADORABLE! I loved everything about it! It was cozy and fun and just an absolute delight to read! The characters were so sweet and lovable. I'm definitely convinced to read the rest of the series featuring these characters. I just absolutely adored this entire book!
The kingdoms with each of their legacies fascinated me. I love the concept of aspects of specific fairytales being woven into each kingdom, like a kingdom where extra large pumpkins grow and the mice are exceedingly large.
There were a lot of secrets between Avery and Elliot, but I loved watching them come to light and seeing these two work together to create a lasting tie. I recommend this book to all fairytale lovers. You’ll enjoy all of the various fairytale references throughout the adventure.
Content: clean (appropriate for all ages, mild violence-kidnapping, manipulative mother child relationship)
Content Rating: 4.9/5 Content Notes:Part of the book is a man and woman traveling alone, but both they and the horse are concerned about propriety. XD It's all kept very clean. Light kissing. And there is some fairy-tale-like magic with Legacies that try to recreate the original fairytales. Theme Rating: 4/5 Theme Notes:It's only a four because it wasn't super prevalent :-) Age Rating: 12+
I'd say it's officially summer, now that I've binge-read an entire Melanie Cellier book. I absolutely adored this one, lemme tell you, and I don't know that I'll be able to wait the eleven days until the next one comes out. XP The main couple was absolutely adorable, and I shipped them so hard. I loved how much the story used all the different Legacies and gave us an idea of some of the other Kingdoms. The little Easter egg from Legacy of Roses was pretty fun, too.
I loved Avery, especially because she was fierce and independent but she also cared and completely broke that stereotype. She was so sweet and reckless and one of my favorite types of characters. Elliot was awesome too, and I felt so bad for what he had gone through but loved watching his growth. And Mattie was hilarious, lemme tell you. I hope I see more of her. I hope I see more of everyone, if we're being honest.
Overall, this was an amazing story that I absolutely loved! It had a beautiful theme, lots of unique elements, and a really sweet romance! I would recommend reading Legacy of Roses first, but you won't super spoil it for yourself if you read this one first. I cannot wait for the next book in the series, though!!!
First of all, this was the first book I have ever read by Melanie Cellier, and it was an absolutely wonderful start. The concept of being tied to Kingdoms (or a candelabra) by magic was fascinating, and the side effects of each Legacy was too. I loved that both Olivia and Rosalie made an appearance in the book, and I'm excited to read the next books in the series. Avery and Elliot were absolutely adorable, and Frank was hilarious when he finally made his appearance. I loved all the travelling and seeing so many places, and I certainly didn't see the end twist coming. I had kind of hoped to see some closure about Elliots mother, but maybe she will appear later on down the road. Overall, it was a wonderful story, and I will definitely be reading many many more Melanie Cellier books!
I received this book as an ARC, however as soon as I found out about the Tethered Hearts series, I knew I’d be reading this series no matter what!
I’m a huge fan of Melanie’s books, so I always start her books with high expectations, and as usual, this one did not disappoint. If you’ve enjoyed any of her books, I definently recommend you read this one!
Even though this book is set in the same world as the Kingdoms of Legacy series, it was still easy to follow along and understand the world, even though I haven’t read Legacy of Roses yet.
If you’re looking for a fun, romantic read, with forced proximity, fairy tale easter-eggs, banter and a trip through the forest - this is the read for you!
Cellier is an amazing author and can craft a story so perfectly. I was pulled in to this one from the first and kept guessing on so many things basically the entire book. It wasn’t an angsty sort of not knowing, but rather I loved the cozier feel of the story. It made me smile repeatedly and was lovely. The wrap up was incredibly satisfying, and I am excited to dive into more of this world in the author’s continuing Legacy series.
Romance: very mild. A couple of kisses. The plot is definitely at the forefront, not the romance, though we do get a beautiful HEA.
Violence: I’d mention the things, but that would spoil some surprises. It wasn’t terrible, I didn’t think. I’d rate it PG. We do not see any on screen unaliving from the violence areas, though you do hear of a couple that happened in the past.
I've only read a couple of Melanie's books but I have loved every one, and this was no exception. I havent read the first book of the Kingdoms of Legacy series, but this worked perfectly as a standalone and I've put Legacy of Roses on my TBR. Elliot's story took me by surprise a couple times and I absolutely loved Avery and her impulsiveness. I hope both of them reoccur in other books in the series.
- Opposites attack - Dual POV - Tries to rob her - A horse companion like Maximus from Rapunzel Disney movies - Forced Proximity - He's tied to a candelabra? - Free Spirit FMC - Looking to settle down MMC - Both making fools of themselves in front of the other - One bed
Avery and Elliot are so cute! I absolutely love this story! Elliots being ties to the legacy is so interesting!
I do think to fully understand the legacies you should read the first book Legacy of Roses first before this one just because you learn about them along with Dimitri (our MMC in that book) But I think this book does a good enough job that you should be able to read it without reading the first, but definitely suggest checking that one out before this one if you want a more in depth understanding of the world this story takes place in.
I was so stoked to find out that this story was going to be about Avery. I loved meeting her in the previous book and then the tie in, in this book is absolutely perfect! Love knowing the timeline of these two stories are basically happening simultaneously. I love that there were so many nods to so many different fairy tells. I was trying to figure out which kingdom was tied to which fairytale/Legacy. I feel like I need to get a chart or something!
Anyways into this amazing story! Avery is on a mission to help a town in desperate need who have commissioned her to procure an item for them. Elliot is looking to recover his candelabra which was snatched from his camp sight. When they have an interesting first meeting and bit miscommunications at first which then leads them to be reluctant travel companions. This leads to lots of adjustments as they are both quite accustomed to being alone, but as the journey continues and they come other know and trust each other their feelings begin to grow. They have very different goals but can't fight those growing feelings and the comfort of no longer being alone.
Avery and Elliots grow together is so sweet. If you love a great story with nods to different fairytales, characters that you love, meddling extended family trying to matchmake, difficulties that grow each character's, and all the feels from hand brushing, and longing this book is for you!
I can not wait for the rest of this awesome Kingdom of Legacy Series!
First release in the multi-author “Tethered Hearts” collection, Melanie Cellier has cleverly tied this to her own series Kingdoms of Legacy, making this book 1.5 in her universe storyline.
Avery is a traveling merchant. Pulling her cart is Nutmeg, her horse and together they ferry unusual but necessary goods as they roam the six kingdoms that make up the land of Legacy. As a young woman unaccompanied, Avery has years of experience with life on the road and a kind heart not jaded by life.
When her trip to the kingdom of Sovar to collect a custom item, Avery crosses paths with Elliot, a young man keeping a close eye on the local blacksmith. When the item he’s hoping to claim is purchased by Avery and tucked into her cart he now has no choice but to chase after her and hope to buy it off of her.
Misunderstandings ensue and when a twist of fate leaves them with no other choice, this unlikely duo are forced to travel together… but can they trust the other or will suspicion keep them from the realization that it is never too late to make a second or third impression.
Avery is what I believe most girls secretly want to be- resourceful and capable of taking their lives into their own hands, but still kind enough to notice the little things that make life worth living. She is also smart enough to recognize that things are often changing around us.
Elliot, our reluctant companion on the road wants nothing more than to forget his troubles and just settle down. He hates wandering and just wants the adventure of a home, the same neighbors every day and quiet. Bummer he has no choice but to tag along if he ever wants to accomplish that dream. Funny how what we thought we wanted may not really be what we wanted once we have that dream finally within reach.
So come along for the ride as our duo become reluctant companions for an adventure neither could suspect lies before them. Plenty of humor, sweet romance and suspense… and a family member or two!
Legacies, magic that is tied to the land and controls how residents react to it, keep people usually within their kingdoms. When someone travels past their native borders there is usually a consequence and most don't want to experience that. But there are always exceptions. Avery comes from a family of traveling merchants and is able to cross borders without consequence. Traveling merchants are highly respected and coveted for the goods they bring and opportunity to help spread business. Avery agreed to pick up a commission from a famous blacksmith for a village facing a crisis. What she didn't expect was the young man who seems to be trying to steal from her. He claims to not be a thief and has an interesting tale if he is to be believed. Elliot is tired of traveling, he wants stability, consistency, and people who can truly get to know him. Unfortunately his plans went astray when he was robbed. And they took the candelabra his Legacy was tied to. Not able to go anywhere without it, he is stuck until he can get it back. Luckily for him, someone was able to buy it from the smithy where he tracked it to. He can easily buy it from the merchant and be on his way. However, his good luck stopped there for the merchant isn't willing to part with what he needs. Now forced to travel with her, he discovers that maybe he doesn't need roots and that traveling can be home too.
The opening book to a multi-author series that sets the tone for clean romance, coziness, and fantasy. It took me a moment to really see some of the Genie and Aladdin bits we are familiar with but once I saw them I could see a few of the plot pieces and where the story was heading. Not a retelling per se but the elements were there in a fun way, I think Frank was an amazing element and loved him. A fun way to be introduced to this world and the series that is tied to it where you can guess some of the Legacy founding stories/retellings. I look forward to more.
Avery loves her life on the road. Not being bound to one of the six kingdoms offers her a freedom few get to enjoy. And though she travels alone, she’s made friends in every community she helps. But what would it be like to have someone share in her adventures? Elliot is desperate to find a place to settle and call home. Unlike most, he’s not tied to a kingdom — he’s tied to a candelabra. But when that candelabra is stolen, he risks dying if he can’t get it back. Does a travelling merchant hold the key to his health or to his heart? Avery and Elliot are convinced they are seeking different things and can never give up the life they seek. But what happens when the secrets between them come crashing down?
“Elliot didn’t want to be bound to anyone but Avery.”
This was soooo cute and sweet! I loved the banter between Avery and Elliot! Avery is such a delightful heroine — self-sufficient without being abrasive about her abilities. Elliot. Oh dear Elliot. He’s so busy being nice and helpful that he doesn’t stop to think of the long term. Watching these two grow closer and learn to trust each other was so satisfying, especially with their inner battles of their own needs versus protecting the other. And that reveal!! Cellier did an incredible job teasing something we could only guess at, then layered on MORE on top of it! I love how the theme of “Tethered Hearts” was played out here. If you’re looking for a book with the sweetest romance, light humor, and an epic adventure, then read Ties of Legacy!
5 Roses A couple of sweet kisses No swears Minimal violence — nothing descriptive (Battling a beast; drugging via a sleeping potion; kidnapping)
Can I just say, Melanie Cellier’s novels make me so happy! There is such a whimsical and romantic appeal that draws me in. Even when the stakes are high, there is still a joyful ring to her stories. Ties of Legacy is no different. Not only is it part of the Tethered Hearts series but it is also part of her series Kingdom of Legacies. A lovely tie-in!
As always, the characters in Ties of Legacy are sweet and slightly quirky. Avery is fiercely independent (and not at all lonely). I loved the aspect of her being a peddler/trader which is not something we see a lot in fantasy novels. Elliot is a gentleman in a bind (literally). His situation was both concerning and amusing. I could really feel his desperation throughout the story. The background characters are great. I am Team Frank all the way!
The storyline allowed for a little mystery to unfold as the adventure continued on. I love learning things with the characters and this was one of those times. Also, a couple of little plot twists kept me on my toes.
The world building in Cellier’s Legacy novels is very unique and shaping up to be one of my favorite fairytale worlds. So much thought went into each Kingdom. I’m excited to dive deeper into her world and the rest of the Tethered Hearts series! Thank you to @melaniecellierauthor for an ARC of Tie of Legacy. All opinions are my own.
This book was so fascinating! The Legacy and the kingdoms are so intriguing and I love learning about them! I almost skipped this book, but I’m so glad I didn’t! It was so good! Avery was a delightful character! I absolutely loved her! Elliot was awesome! He was funny, charming, brave and handsome! I loved how they were brought together and stuck together! It was so interesting and delightful to watch them fall in love! This book was absolutely delightful and I loved it! It kept getting better and better as I read on! There was a lot of great humor that I enjoyed so much! I loved being back in this world and I can’t wait to read the next one! I highly recommend! 5 stars! ⭐️️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Quotes that I liked:
🌻 "I noticed," he said dryly. "You must have been a delight for your parents." She grinned. "Every traveler's dream child."
🌻 "I'm all yours now, Avery."
🌻 The old ties that had bound them were gone, but new ones wove around them as their lips joined, the new ones weaving through their hearts.
🌻 Elliot shook his head. "No, what I wanted was a nome. And I've finally realized that what I want isn't to wake up every morning in the same place. That was just the consolation prize because I didn't have what my heart actually craved—a person who truly knows and loves me. Bolivere isn't my home any longer, Avery, you are. And wherever my home goes, that's where I want to be."
🌻 "Wedding?" Corbett's brows rose. "That moved quickly." “Quickly? Ha! You wouldn't say that if you were in my shoes."
This book. This series. On both parts. Tethered Hearts is starting with a bang in this cozy fairy-tale feeling story, that occurs during the events of Cellier's Legacy of Roses. Kingdoms of Legacy is quickly shaping to be my favorite by Cellier and Ties of Legacy delivers all the fun, cozy, different fairytale feelings I found in Legacy of Roses. I loved the cameo of a moment from Legacy of Roses. The humor and sass of this story was spot on, something I've grown to love from Cellier's female characters. Avery is an amazing character. I love how she is so comfortable and confident in who she is and what she wants in life. Even weaknesses she accepts and sees them for what they are, while also using them to work for her to be more like strengths. For example, her desire to help anyone in any way she can, which can really be a weakness and at times is for Avery, but overall she turns it into a strength because she helps others, even at her own peril. Elliot is such a sweet, dear boy that deserves all the love and care in the world. At first, I didn't like him. I don't think you're meant to. But as his story unfolds, you can see he was just dealt a bad hand and is trying to make the best of it. The side characters, especially animal sidekicks truly help make this story what it is but I love it for the swoony romance of two characters finding their way in a difficult world and their dreams align to fight for their own love story.
Avery is a traveling merchant in a place where citizens are tethered to the kingdom they’re born in. Each kingdom has its own unique characteristics, or “Legacies”. One kingdom is renounced for massive rodents and pumpkins. Another for its herbs that cause instant sleep. If citizens stray from their homeland, they suffer physical pain. Traveling merchants, however, are descended from a line that has no tether. Avery travels between all the kingdoms, specializing in finding exactly what people need and bringing it back to them.
Elliot is a citizen of some mysterious kingdom, with a unique tie- his mother made sure he was tied to a brass candelabra at birth. He could go anywhere, so long as he kept that candelabra with him.
So when the candelabra is stolen…and sold to a surly metal smith with a 6 month waiting list…and that candelabra gets loaded into the back of a merchant’s cart…Elliot will do just about anything to get it back. Including following a traveling merchant all over creation until he can get his candelabra back.
This was a sweet love story with a really unique magical system. Part fairy tale re-telling, part romantasy, this is kind of like Aladdin and the genie. Kind of.
Content: romance: clean, sweet kisses violence: some fights but nothing graphic or really scary, a kidnapping scene, a fight with a monster, mentions a manipulative parent magic: magic system where everyone is tied to their birth kingdom and has some sort of side effect if they leave it. language: none

Honestly, I really enjoyed this book. I have read other authors from the Tethered Hearts series before but this is the first time I've read something by Melanie Cellier and now I can't wait to read her other books. Avery and Elliot were both great characters. There wasn't a hint of any toxicity or angst that commonly plague YA romances. They communicated, they worked together, they were kind and understanding to each other (once Avery knew why he was following her around). The relationship was so sweet and the resolution was well earned. The premise of being tied to the candelabra was worked in well into how the magic system worked in the world and I loved following their journey. I really hope they come back in the author's future books set in this world.
Fantasy Romance | Fairytale Vibes | Slow-Burn | Adventure | No Spice | Found Family
“Funny how what we thought we wanted may not really be what we wanted once we have that dream finally within reach.”
Ties of Legacy is the first book in the Tethered Hearts series, and I loved how it connected both to this multi-author project and to Melanie Cellier’s Kingdoms of Legacy series. Even though I was a little confused at first (since this is technically book two in the Legacy series), the world was enchanting once I got my bearings.
Avery is such a fun heroine—resourceful, independent, and kind, with a roving merchant’s heart for freedom and a sharp eye for detail. Elliot, on the other hand, is her opposite—tethered (quite literally!) to a cursed candelabra, he dreams only of settling down and leaving wandering behind. Their reluctant partnership, full of banter, humor, and sweet moments, grew into something tender and heartwarming.
I especially loved how both characters were so fleshed out—quirks, flaws, and all—and how the ending tied their journey together. This isn’t a fast-paced, high-stakes fantasy, but rather a thoughtful and charming romantic adventure with plenty of humor, gentle romance, and just enough suspense to keep the pages turning.
I really enjoyed this book by Melanie in her latest Kingdoms of Legacy series! Even though it isn't based off of a fairy tale like the rest of her books in this series, it does give off some Aladdin vibes (him being tied to a lamp and the whole "master" thing and everything). It was amazing to get immersed in this beautiful world Melanie has created. I loved Avery and Elliot so much. Both of them were very competent, kind, and compassionate and they were such a great match for each other - except that they each wanted a completely different life! I really loved getting to see more of the other kingdoms that we don't see in Legacy of Roses. It was great meeting Olivia and I can't wait for her story to come out soon! I also really liked that we get a small mention of Rosalie (it really helps to know the timeline). The plot, the worldbuilding, and the characters were so great, intricate, and very well done. This book definitely doesn't disappoint and I can't wait for the rest of Melanie's Kingdoms of Legacy!
I started reading Melanie’s books a long time ago so coming back to her felt like I was little again.
I loved how thoughtful Elliot was the whole time. He stayed by her when she was enchanted asleep. He saved her from a river. He made her sleep in a bed even though she’d hoped he wouldn’t wake up for the trade. I loved Avery too. Her care for Elliot even when he seemed to be a thief. It was more realistic with how cautious she was but also not in a way where you couldn’t feel the care there. And her mindlessly running to his aid The homecoming wasn’t what I expected but it’s what I needed. Gah the end too. The strength of releasing all of that. I was sad that he did but it makes a lot of sense in why he would and why he’d feel so much peace about it. The marriage conversation was funny I love how there wasn’t a whole ton of miscommunication and when there was, it was done pretty well and in a not super annoying way.
There are so many good parts of it. This is a book I’m sad to finish

This book was absolutely incredible! I was hooked on from the very beginning. I loved Elliot and Avery and I think they make a perfect couple. At first, it seemed very unlikely how it would work out, but there were some incredible twists and turns and epiphanies before they realised how to make them work. I loved seeing more of Avery, especially how she ended up helping Rosalie. Honestly, this book was amazing in plot, character development, emotions, and everything else! I loved all the side characters like Frank, including the more minor side characters like Lorne! I really enjoyed seeing more of the Kingdoms of Legacy as there was a lot of travelling across kingdoms. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy competent female leads, swoony male leads, and a plot that will keep you completely immersed in the story! Great work Melanie!
Ties of Legacy is book by @melaniecellierauthor that gets released on March 7. It's part of the Multi-author series Teathered Hearts. And it is phenomenal!! 📚 Ties of Legacy is a cozy fantasy where a boy who just wants to settle down and build a home. Turns out he is tied to a candelabra, if he gets too far away from it he gets extremely sick. And that candelabra.... Well, it just got bought by a traveling merchant. You can see how that would create problems. 📚 I loved reading this book! Melanie did such a good job creating an engaging story with some twists that I did not see coming. And some fabulous animal companions! 📚 I received an ARC copy from the author, all thoughts and opinions are my own. #teatheredhearts #teatheredheartsseries #TiesofLegacy #melaniecellier #TetheredHearts #cozyfantasy #reluctantallies #hiddenidentity #enemiestolovers #forcedproximity #onlyonebed
Ties of Legacy by Melanie Cellier 🌺 Enchanted kingdoms 🌺 A boy looking for a home 🌺 A stolen candelabra 🌺 A roving merchant girl 🌺 Sweet romance, just kisses (no spice) Genre: Fantasy romance Although not an Aladdin retelling, this one did have some fun Aladdin elements! Including our main male character being tied to a lamp and a very talkative parrot. Avery loves traveling the six kingdoms, and she’s on a speical mission for a unique item, but someone else needs it too... Greatly enjoyed this one! I really like the idea behind this series and it was so fun getting to see how the Legacy manifests in different kingdoms. Some fun animal characters too, Nutmeg the horse and Frank the parrot! Highly, highly recommend! A standalone in the Tethered Hearts series and book 1.5 in the Kingdoms of Legacy series Favorite character: Elliott (our main male character) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is a charming no-spice romantic fantasy about Elliot, whose life is bound to a brass candlestick -- if he gets separated from it, he will weaken and eventually die. By accident, he becomes additionally linked to Avery, a pretty, spunky travelling merchant. Working together, they seek for a solution to Elliot's affliction.
This is part of "Tethered Hearts", a multi-author series of (supposedly) stand-alone novels with a similar theme. Unfortunately, not having read any of Cellier's other books from the "Kingdoms of Legacy" series, I struggled to fully understand this fictional world at first. Once I got it sorted out, and accepted that there were bits I just wasn't going to comprehend fully, I enjoyed the story immensely. I will most likely read more by this author, in particular the series mentioned.
The most interesting derivative of the Genie of the Lamp I have ever read! Also, when I mean derivative, I mean DERIVATIVE, we are so far remove from the Genie of the Lamp that all we have is the Lamp, but at the same time we have the Genie. Confuse? Let me explain using Disney's Aladdin (Robin Williams version). Remember, how Genie talked about how all of his power is related to the lamp and without the lamp he can do nothing on his own? That is at play here, but maybe not how you expected. In the original Legacy series, the Legacies reminded me of Mercedes Lackey's Tradition, but I feel like it has come into its own. I still wish for a definitive glossary on each countries legacies and possible effects, but this volume was good.
Verdict: Overall, it was a good story, but I did skimmed more than usual as we go to the end.
