The In Death Cookbook by Author Theresa Carle-Sanders is a collection of recipes inspired by the critically acclaimed, futuristic In Death Series written by Author JD Robb aka Nora Roberts featuring Lt. Eve Dallas and her wealthy spouse, Roarke. Cookbook enthusiasts are in for a delectable treat as they browse this collection of recipes with vivid, colorful photographs and easy to follow recipes. Fans of the series get a bonus with story excerpts connecting the novel to the recipe included on the page above each recipe. As an avid fan of the In Death series, I couldn't stop myself from reading and reminiscing over each passage as I savored the cookbook page by page. And as a person who loves to cook and bake, I am thrilled with the selection of recipes included and look forward to sharing them with family and friends.

Fans of the In Death series are aware food is referenced often in the novels be it a tasty meal from the magical autochef we all fantasize over including Eve's favorite spaghetti & meatballs, Peabody's glide cart soy burgers, dogs, or fries, Summerset's to-die-for cherry pie, or Feeney's famous candied nuts. Photographer Al Douglas’s vivid photographs are stunning and colorful - so real you can almost smell each fragrant dish baking as you're browsing through the pages. I enjoyed Author Theresa Carle-Sanders Drinks & Cocktails section including "The Roarke", a cocktail that's "smooth, rich, and Irish, just like the man himself" from a passage between Roarke & Eve in the first book, Naked In Death, and Dennis Mira's comforting Hot Chocolate from Brotherhood in Death. The list goes on and on.

Author Theresa Carle-Sanders' love of reading and her expertise as a cook and recipe writer guarantees cookbook enthusiasts a tried-and-true book of recipes that have been tested, tweaked, and tested again with the bonus of having recipes tied to one of readers’ favorite fictional worlds. Having previously published cookbooks based on fictional work, including the Outlander world and the world of Stephen King, Carle-Sanders shares her criteria for choosing series as a basis for cookbooks which include: a long running series with books and characters she enjoys reading about and draws inspiration from, a series with a large, passionate fan base, and an author who writes food into their stories often and is conducive to having a cookbook inspired by their work. Fortunately, she struck gold with the In Death series. Carle-Sanders says she was grateful to receive Robb's blessing and encouragement to move forward with the project, and includes a Foreword written by JD Robb.

The In Death Cookbook: To-Die-For Recipes from the World of JD Robb is a vivid, culinary delight for anyone interested in entertaining friends and family with a scrumptious meal, snacks, or drinks. Author Theresa Carle-Sanders includes seventy-four out of this world, delectable recipes ranging from breakfast, lunch, and dinner entrees to sides to desserts to drinks and cocktails. Fans are sure to find mention of one of their favorites from the series in The In Death Cookbook. The holidays are coming and what an amazing gift this cookbook will make for fans of the series as well as anyone who enjoys an excellent, top of the line cookbook. Highly recommended!

I loved the idea of a cookbook inspired by the "In Death" series and this book is fantastic! The main character, Eve Dallas, is not known for her cooking skills and is often so busy catching criminals, she doesn't want to take the time to eat. However, food and meals play a big part in the books and Sanders explains in the cookbook's introduction her process for selecting what dishes to include. The book has gorgeous photos of the completed dishes and of NYC.

The cookbook is organized by type of meal and has sections for Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks and Appetizers, Pizza and Pasta, Dinner, Side Dishes, Baking and Sweets, and Drinks and Cocktails. Each recipe includes a color photo and a short excerpt from the "In Death" book that mentions the featured dish. There is a handy index at the back of the book.

My cooking skills aren't that much better than Eve's, but I love looking at cookbooks and this one is fun. There are so many delicious sounding dishes in this book! Some of the recipes are way beyond what I could prepare, but there are some less complex recipes I'd like to try. I highly recommend this book to fans of J.D. Robb and if you're also a cook, you will love it even more.

I received a copy of this book from St. Martin's Press for review consideration. My review is voluntary and unbiased.

This was great fun and also a very decent cookbook as the author explores the In Death world and its infusion of food that adds to the Tone and detail of each novel. The author was quite creative with some—taking a reference of not-very-appetizing food and making it very much so, using the Robb humor that pervades the novels, and covering all the CHs, with lots of Dallas’s favorites. Each recipe is introduced by a paragraph from the book it is referred to, and they are well-formulated with easy to understand directions, and almost every one has a good photo. Gorgeous photography of NYC also is in dispersed throughout the chapters which are broken down into meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks & Appetizers, Pizza (of course) & Pasta, Dinner, Side Dishes, Baking & Sweets, and Drinks—mostly alcoholic and very seductive. My favorite recipe was for Feeney’s Candied Nuts which must appear in every single book in the series (like pizza). There is a good Index by Recipe and a lovely introduction by J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts). Readalikes may be literary-themed cookbooks like Chelsea Monroe-Cassel’s The Official Game of Thrones Cookbook for fans, but also compilations by Milk Street’s Christopher Kimball and Snacking Dinners by Georgia Freeman.

I was intrigued by this one when I read about it. The In Death series is one of my favorites, so I wanted to check it out, requested that my library purchase it, because while I though I would enjoy it, I didn't think it would be worth spending my money on it. After checking it out, I made the right choice. I did like it, really liked how with each recipe there was a blurb related to the specific item calling it out. The author did a great job of finding things that matched well and that you could instantly recall the characters talking about. For me the recipes were a bit fussy or things I don't eat because I'm a picky eater, but this was one of the better collaborations I've seen of this kind. If you are a fan of the series, it's worth checking this one out, especially if you go the library route.

I love the concept of this cookbook and the recipes look fantastic. I made the Flourless Fudge Btownies for Morris. They’re gluten free (not even a flour substitute) and decadently rich and delicious.

The In Death series is a futuristic mystery series by JD Robb (Nora Roberts). The 62nd one is coming out in February. There are typically two published a year- the main character is Lt. Eve Dallas and there are a number of recurring characters that feel like family as they solve mysteries that typically take place in NYC. Found family, connection, humor- the books are comfort reads for me- I know what to expect and look forward to it.

There are often mentions of food. This cookbook takes passages from the books that mention food and the author created recipes to go along with the descriptions. It’s genius. The brownies are wonderful.

It’s a solid cookbook regardless of your familiarity with the series. There’s a nice variety of recipes.

Thanks to the publisher for a gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

THE IN DEATH COOKBOOK by Theresa Carle-Sanders is out now! It has seventy-four to-die-for recipes inspired by the world of J.D. Robb's #1 best-selling series, and includes a Foreword by J.D. Robb.

This is a stunning book divided by meal type! Each recipe has a colorful picture of the finished product, a quote from the In Death Series, and an easy to follow recipe. I felt e each recipe had ingredients you could precure easily at any grocery store.

My husband graciously made the Dublin Fish and Chips recipe. It was delicious. They fish and chips reminded me of the ones we tasted in London at a pub. The directions are very detailed and help you walk through each step. I highly recommend The In Death Cookbook by Theresa Carle-Sanders.

I was gifted a copy and not required to write a positive review.

It's not often that I sit down to read a cookbook cover to cover. I was thrilled to find this on my step on its release date. I had forgotten that I entered a contest for it and was quite excited that I won.

I need to go back and re-read the recipes that particularly interest me and see how to adapt them to a vegan diet.

A huge thank you to St Martin's Publishing for sending me this treasure.

For a gimmicky cookbook, this isn’t half bad. There are a variety of recipes ranging from breakfast, lunch, and snacks to sweets and drinks. Most recipes are simple enough for most cooks to make them with readily available ingredients. A major drawback is that a lot of recipes do not have an accompanying photo and the layout could of been better.

This cookbook is packed with recipes worth trying. The first one I made was the spaghetti sauce, and it was absolutely delicious. The rest are on my list, and I’m excited for each of them. The added snippets from the world of J.D. Robb and the In Death series made it even more engaging. I can’t wait to whip up the next recipe—I borrowed this gem from the library on Libby.

11/9/2025 A lot of solid recipes, and very little of the objectionable behavior from Roarke that can make it hard for me to enjoy the series otherwise. Full review tk at CriminalElement.com.

when looking at cookbooks, I really like it when there is an example of what is being made; I do judge food by what it could look like. only half the receipes have accompanying pictures, some sounded really good too.

This was such a neat idea! I got a free copy through Goodreads and I was so excited because I am a huge fan of the In Death series by JD Robb. I am not much of a cook, but as a fan of the series I truly enjoyed looking through the cookbook to see all of the great content from the books and the recipes definitely looked good. Now I almost want to start the series over and do some cooking so I have stuff to eat while I read!
