The explanatory title of ‘Parties & Passions: Classic short stories from around the world’ is a bit deceiving. The 20 stories represent but 10 of the 195 countries in the world. Half of the writers originate from the US and but two of the total are people of colour. The collection is also somewhat unbalanced in terms of gender representation, with 13 stories written by men and only 7 by women.
Though the selection of writers was not very diverse, the stories were very entertaining and fascinating. I especially liked the one written by Edith Wharton.
