"A frisky, campy paranormal joyride." - USA Today bestselling author Timothy Janovsky
"My all-time favorite kind of surprisingly soft, adorably grumpy, and sizzling hot." - S.A. MacLean
Lucy Lehane writes love stories about terrible people. Her interests include binge-watching, cheese, and game nights with friends. Exactly no one in her life was surprised to learn that she had written a romance novel. By day she is an attorney, and by night, after her son is asleep, and after otherwise procrastinating for as long as humanly possible, she sometimes writes.
Okay wow — I read this in practically one sitting, and honestly? I had a great time. Sure, it had a few misses here and there, but overall, this was a fun, chaotic, and surprisingly sweet paranormal romance.
Let’s talk characters. I really liked both of our main leads... though I’m still lowkey questioning whether I actually liked them together (ohhh the internal conflict). Lorenzo was my fave from the get go — mysterious, broody, and with just the right amount of sass. Charlie, on the other hand, kinda grated on me at times. He had some “sir please” moments, but I’ll admit, he did grow on me by the end.
Now, about the romance itself — While they call it enemies to lovers, yeah but it’s more like a grudgy start that turns into awkward friendship, then eventually love. The “hate” portion gets resolved pretty early on and doesn’t really carry through the story the way you’d expect. I think I would’ve liked it more if we’d seen that tension develop a bit more gradually, rather than it just poofing into thin air.
The plot pacing felt a bit clunky in parts — some moments really dragged, while others sped by without much impact. I also found myself wishing the story had taken a deeper dive into a few of the themes it introduced. There were some really interesting ideas and moments that felt like they were just brushed past instead of being explored more fully. Just needed a bit more meat on the bones, ya know?
That said, I absolutely loved that the advice columns were actually included throughout the book rather than just being mentioned. Easily one of my favorite touches — fun, clever, and surprisingly heartfelt.
I also really appreciated that it wasn’t just a vampire romance. The variety of supernatural characters added a lot of charm and flavor.
The writing style overall really worked for me — sharp, witty, and stylish — though a few pieces of dialogue missed the mark. Still, it had voice, and that goes a long way.
And yes, like so many romance books, the ending was a little predictable (🙄🙄), but I can’t lie — I still smiled. hea secured, cutesy vibes achieved.
MM Romance Supernatural Advice Column 3.5 Stars ⭐️
So I wasn’t sure what to expect because arcs from Netgalley are so hit or miss but this reeled me in right away and kept my attention. This is about a human named Charlie who writes an advice column and needs to learn about supernatural creatures ASAP. He runs into a vampire, Lorenzo, who he used to know in college but didn’t really get along with and convinces him to teach him all the stuff. In order to get Lorenzo to help, he tells him a bit of a white lie. I’m not really sure why he couldn’t just be honest but whatever 🤷🏻♀️ They start hanging out as Lorenzo takes Charlie to a bunch of Supernatural events and it became such a quirky cozy romance. The author note said she was inspired by the tv show “what we do in the shadows” and since I’ve watched that show, I can tell you that this has that same comedic vibe with fun side characters.
My favorite part of this book was seeing all the letters written to Charlie and how he responded to the ones he chose. I also enjoyed the supernatural events he went to because they were super creative. The roommates were so fun especially the poltergeist character. I would love to read about more characters in this world tbh. I liked the romance between Charlie and Lorenzo but I hated how long it took for Charlie to be honest. That said, I still swooned over their romance. Watching Lorenzo go from grumpy mcgrumperson to a social-able in love vampire got me in the feels.
So I am kind of torn on how to rate this because while I had fun, it’s quite forgettable. After two days I legit forgot their names and for a book that says high heat in the blurb, the sex scenes didn’t really reflect that. I have no idea how to describe them either because while they weren’t fade to black, they lacked descriptive details I’d expect from a book claiming to be high heat. I’d include some quotes but since this is an arc I received 6 months ago, there could have been a lot of changes. Who knows 🤷🏻♀️ Anyway I’m choosing to round this up to 4 stars because it was such a cozy read that made me laugh and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes the show this is based on.
Thank you Netgalley and St Martin’s for the arc. This is my honest review.
Thirsty is a paranormal (maybe) MM rom-com that follows a journalist and a vampire. I rate this book 4/4.25 stars because I enjoyed the supernatural building and explanations in the book. It wasn't just about Lorenzo, the vampire; we got to explore a lot of different creatures. The slow-burn romance was well-done, and you could really feel the friendship developing between Charlie and Lorenzo before things turned romantic.
Speaking of Charlie and Lorenzo, I loved them (and that first kiss scene). There however was a few moments where their relationship felt a little flat mostly because their seemed to be a lot of off scene conversations we didn’t see, but overall, I was invested in their relationship and enjoyed the dynamic with the side characters.
A huge thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press | St. Martin’s Griffin and author Lucy Lehane for providing me with the eARC of “Thirsty”, in exchange for my honest review! Publication date: October 14th, 2025
Is it possible to give this book 6 stars? I wish it was, because it definitely deserves it.
“Thirsty” is an adult, paranormal, MM romance, following the relationship between Lorenzo: a vampire, and Charlie: a human. Charlie is a struggling writer for an advice column. Most of the questions he gets are about paranormal relationships and challenges, but as a human, he doesn’t know how to answer them. This is, until he meets Lorenzo. A vampire that could be Charlie’s key to solving his dilemma. The problem? They have met before. Charlie has wronged Lorenzo in the past, and Lorenzo hates him for it. He agrees to work with Charlie, with the secret intent of getting back at him for his past wrong doings. However, the two get closer and closer as they work together. Things heat up and tensions rise, but Charlie is keeping a secret that could ruin everything.
This story was EVERYTHING. I freaking love Charlie and Lorenzo together. They work so well. Their romance is cute, steamy and just incredible. I spent the whole time itching for them to be together.
Lorenzo is such a well-developed character. A slightly awkward and socially anxious vampire from the 1800’s who tries so hard (and sometimes fails) to connect with people in modern times? Stop. He seriously deserved a hug. Charlie keeping secrets from him made me want to cry very real tears.
I also need to mention the sheer variety of paranormal characters and species that are in this book. Vampires, werewolves, witches, trolls, druids, poltergeists and the list go on. This really was paranormal, but not in a scary, horror novel kind of way. It was in a “paranormal support group where various species support and help each other” way. So. Entertaining. I ate it up.
Note: An in-book reference to Chappell Roan? You have my heart.
Overall, fantastic!! Fabulous work Lucy Lehane. I can really tell how much effort when into creating this.
This book grabbed me from the start because Lorenzo was such a ridiculous vampire (I say with fondness). Sort of awkward and out of touch. But in a way that was endearing. The flashback that introduced his POV made me feel for him. And half the premise of this book is that he has this big plan to get revenge on Charlie, except he has no plan. Terrible at coming up with plans. Just, “To do: Get revenge.” That’s it. And as I said, I liked him already, but getting to know his sweetness, his depth, and his struggles as a hundreds-year-old vampire only made me like him more.
I liked Charlie too. He had his own more immediate, human struggles. He was friendly and curious and took a genuine interest in the people he met. He wasn’t always perfect, especially in the flashback when he was a bit younger, but who is? It was also interesting seeing him through Lorenzo’s eyes, not just Charlie’s POV, because Lorenzo noticed different things and started seeing things in different ways throughout the story.
The author did a great job of showing the build up of the relationship, showing them getting to know each other, spending time together, falling for each other. Their interactions were delightful. Lorenzo was trying so hard to be a hardass, but he just couldn’t do it and kept caving. And Charlie was using Lorenzo for info at first, but he was clearly becoming genuinely interested in Lorenzo and enjoying spending time with him. It was a fun dynamic. I squee-ed inside when they first kissed. I melted when Charlie realized he loved Lorenzo. I really enjoyed this romance, it was very sweet and believable, and it made me smile. Also, I do love me a good sexy vampire bite scene 😉
I liked the side characters too. Lorenzo had some unique, sometimes frustrating, but mostly lovable roommates. All of them supernaturals. A few other characters had small parts too. And there was a nice subplot/theme in the book about finding friendship and community.
This is not super vampirey in terms of blood and biting, but it is vampirey in the sense that one of the main characters is a vampire, and his thoughts and feelings are very much shaped by that. You get to understand why it’s hard for him. It also shapes how he connects with others and even how he’s ended up with the friends and acquaintances he has. And you do get a small taste of his speed/strength, and that one bite scene I mentioned. But it’s not glamorous or gritty or overly angsty. It’s a mundane portrayal of vampires, in a good way. I enjoyed the balance this book struck between human and fantastical.
And the book was fun! There were some silly antics and lots of supernaturals and little lighthearted moments between characters. But all pretty believable. Yes, there are supernaturals and magic, but within that context, the things the characters got up to, the way they acted, it was pretty grounded. And as the book's official description promises, it's low stakes, no big action or saving the world, just people living their lives. (Ok, wait, I just understood the stakes joke 😅)
I enjoyed the audiobook narration by Michael Crouch. It was easy to tell Charlie and Lorenzo apart, especially since they had different accents. Other characters sounded different enough as well. And it sounded natural with the right emotions and all that.
Overall, this was a fun and sweet romance with a chill plot, lovable characters, and lots of supernaturals!
Recommended For: Anyone who likes fun, sweet, slow-building m/m romance, low stakes plots, vampires, a variety of other supernaturals, and endearing characters.
Okay, first things first — this was fun. Like, proper chaos-fueled, slightly absurd, caffeinated-at-3AM kind of fun. Thirsty is what happens when you throw a romance, a vampire comedy, and a supernatural advice column into a blender and hit purée. It’s witty, weird, and full of heart in a way that I didn’t quite expect.
Charlie is a struggling writer whose love life is non-existent and whose career is circling the drain faster than a vampire avoiding daylight. He’s supposed to give advice to people dating the undead — small problem: he’s very, very human and knows absolutely nothing about vampires except what he’s seen in bad movies. Enter Lorenzo, the centuries-old vampire with a grudge the size of Transylvania, who just so happens to have history with Charlie. Their first meeting after years apart? Equal parts awkward, hilarious, and filled with tension so sharp you could slice garlic bread with it.
The dynamic between Charlie and Lorenzo is peak enemies-to-lovers meets “wait, are we actually flirting?”. Lorenzo’s got that dramatic, brooding ancient vibe (complete with revenge plan and great hair), while Charlie is sarcastic, self-deprecating, and basically a walking disaster. Their banter had me cackling — equal parts bite and charm — and there’s a refreshing lack of unnecessary angst. This isn’t your usual vampire melodrama. It’s a rom-com… with fangs.
What I really loved, though, was the narration. It’s snappy, smart, and self-aware in the best way. You can tell Lucy Lehane had fun writing this, and the humor lands without trying too hard. There’s a chaotic supernatural friend group (because of course there is), some truly ridiculous scenarios (demons, portals, questionable life choices), and somehow, amidst all that chaos, a surprisingly tender love story.
But — and here’s where the half star dropped — sometimes it felt a little too chaotic. Like someone turned the volume up to eleven and forgot to lower it again. The pacing was uneven in spots, and I found myself wishing for more emotional depth between all the jokes and supernatural hijinks. Still, it’s a debut, and an impressive one at that — the voice is there, the charm is there, and honestly, the concept is just so delightfully offbeat that I couldn’t stop reading.
If you’re looking for something fresh, fast-paced, and a little unhinged (in the best way), Thirsty delivers. It’s a vampire rom-com where the blood isn’t the only thing that’s hot, the monsters need therapy, and the humans might just be the messiest of all.
3.5 stars from me — a strong debut with tons of personality, sharp humor, and enough charm to make you forget you stayed up way too late finishing it.
Unfortunately I am putting this down at 70%. But as usual, what I am not enjoying about this book may be the reason another picks it up.
I had expected this to be a silly goofy shenanigan-filled good time. And while most of that was correct, it didn't have much in the way of shenanigans. I enjoyed getting to meet and learn about all the supernatural beings, but there wasn't any overarching plot outside of the romance. I kept waiting for something to happen but at 70%, I was still waiting. I am sure the third act conflict will occur soon, but since it is quite predictable (and also my least favorite variety), I didn't feel the need to continue. I listened to this book straight through until 70% and knew that if I put it down, I wouldn't pick it back up again.
That said, if you're looking for a silly goofy MM paranormal romance with low stakes and low tension, this might be a exactly what you need!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for a digital advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was very cute and cozy and was positive towards the Ford Focus which seems mildly like Lucy Lehane (aka Liz Bowery, author of Love Hate and Clickbait) is apologizing to me for insulting Old Navy in her previous book.
(Warning for potential spoilers but it's a silly book about a vampire and an advice columnist we're not revealing state secrets here) I only gave this 4 stars because the amount of em dashes and ellipses in the dialogue was distracting and it wasn't as unrealistic and high stakes as Love Hate and Clickbait (something I'd never thought I'd say about a book about a vampire) and it all kind of went nowhere so the coziness felt cloying rather than sweet at times. I suppose this is the gay version of the witchy romcom genre of which a million books are published every October. I still kept it 4 stars because their first kiss/sex scene involved them making out on top of the aforementioned Ford Focus (that they had just fell on as they escaped a pack of werewolves and turned it into a smoldering pile of rubble) and if we can't enjoy the truly romantic stuff like that then why even bother reading ya know?
Thanks to the publisher for sending me this book extra early most likely due to my increasingly unhinged review of her first book which I still stand by. Who knows maybe when I re-read Thirsty I will also increase the star rating as my third eye is opened to the truth
Please market this appropriately. This should be in the LGBTQ+ section. Whether this was done intentionally to attract more viewers or on accident without thinking twice- Most readers have specific preferences. By not labeling it correctly, you're not only misleading readers, but dropping your own ratings by not attracting the proper audience.
i am not the biggest fan of low stakes/cozy books, i like to have at least a lil something going on to keep my attention so this is just a case of not the right book for me
Gah so stinking adorable. An advice columnist for the supernatural meets a vampire. It’s like pride and prejudice with a vampire Mr Darcy and it’s perfect.
A sexy and soft romcom to really sink your teeth into! Readers won’t be able to resist Charlie and Lorenzo’s charm, quirks, and oh-so-delicious chemistry. I will read anything Lucy Lehane writes!
I usually keep most of my DNFs off Goodreads but I'm so surprised that I can't find other reviews that covered some of the things that bugged me right from the beginning of this book so I'm sharing them here.
My main concern about this book has to do with the setup: very early on we learn that paranormal beings just "came out" a few years ago and no one seemed to care and now they are trendy? I'm sorry, but in this particularly bleak and polarized day and age, I simply cannot fathom a scenario where vampires, werewolves and other paranormal beings collectively come out and it's a non-issue.
But, even if I could suspend my disbelief around the idea that everyone just passively accepts newly outed paranormal beings, then why are they still so othered that Charlie needs to basically study them like specimens in a lab? To be fair, I didn't get very far in the book but I did check with a friend who read the whole thing who confirmed for me that although Charlie genuinely befriends some paranormal people, none of this gets talked about much past the surface level. At best, it sounds like "some of my best friends are paranormal."
Look, I don't need every book I read to examine how most social structures pit groups against one another to allow a small group to hoard and preserve power. But . . . I guess if you're creating a world with this type of significant social disparity then yes, I do need it to be examined.
And maybe if this felt really light and hopeful from the start, or I felt a connection to the characters, I wouldn't have noticed so much. But what I did read was kind of a downer and wasn't really engaging me.
I received a digital Advance Reader Copy from NetGalley and St. Martin's Press in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you St. Martin's Press for the free ARC. Thirsty by Lucy Lehane 3 stars ⭐️ Charlie writes an advice column under the pseudonym Wise Old Crone. He keeps getting people wanting advice having to do with supernatural beings, such as werewolves or vampires, but he isn't very knowledgeable about them. So when he runs into Lorenzo, a vampire his college friend used to date, he asks for help to learn more about supernaturals. Lorenzo isn't enthused to help until Charlie says it's for a research paper that almost no one will read.
There were so many parts of Thirsty that were so funny. Especially the emails asking for advice. Those were the best part of the book. I didn't quite understand why Charlie lied about having a column. I don't think it would have been a very big deal. The first half of the book was great, but I did get a bit bored around the 50% mark. Also! The back of the ARC says that this is a fake dating book, and it 100% is not! That's not a bad thing, but I was confused about where the fake dating was. Something that I loved about the book was that the advice column giving advice about supernaturals wasn't that different than advice about regular people. That we're not that different. Which I think is a nice metaphor.
cute!! the writing was nice! i really liked the initial premise of the romance and the two main characters! the idea of a world where every supernatural creature "came out" but most humans didn't even notice it because they had their problems is fun and innovative! and i loved the column parts of the book!! carrie bradshaw vibes that was fun! that being said, i do think the switch lorenzo did from hating charlie bc of what he did in the past to being in love with him felt way too quick for me, and it kind of happened off-page.
(also, weirdest first sex scene i've read in a romance book, why did they have sex for the first time on top of the broken windshield of a car??? there is broken glass beneath the two of you!!!)
I love a good vampire romcom. A MM vampire romcom?! I’m sat.
Charlie was quirky, smart, and cute, though may not be a very memorable character for me. Lorenzo was your typical broody, reserved vampire and we love those 🤤
The plot of this story was good, had some tension for about 50% of it, and some angst towards the end! The advice column was wicked, I was giggling at some of the entries.
Some paragraphs had me a little lost as to which POV we were in, knowing it was 3rd person but from whose perspective. Jumbled me a few times!
During some of the more intimate scenes, they were very glanced over, which is fine, except some parts were explained and others were just… implied? If that makes sense? Kind of like read between the lines. As in, at one point, apparently a h@ndjob was already happening and I didn’t even realize the pants were down and it was out, or that his hand was even on it🤣 It was missing some steps - if you read, you’d understand! I feel like a fade to black would’ve been better ? The last scene was more in depth though! Wasn’t missing any crucial moments lol.
Overall, 2.5 ⭐️, 1 🌶️!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for allowing me to read an advanced copy of Thirsty!
Thank you to the author, their publisher, and NetGalley for an electronic ARC in exchange for an honest review.
3.75/5 ⭐️ 1/5 🌶️ - some descriptions, but most is implied/behind closed doors
I (unlike some of the other reviewers, lol) saw two men in the cover and the title of “Thirsty” and I was like - this sounds so gay, COUNT ME IN.
This book follows a human relationship advice columnist (Charlie) and one of his college friend’s exes, a 200+ year old vampire, Lorenzo. This was an enemies to reluctant friends to lovers. The slow burn slowwwwww burned hard but in a good way.
Lorenzo reluctantly (and unknowingly) is helping Charlie with his advice column that is now geared toward supernatural relationships and not just human relationships. There is lots of campy, supernatural fun along the way. Of course, this same advice column will lead to problems…
Way too much telling-not-showing right away - the first chapter was pretty great, but the second went downhill fast, telling us all everyone's reasons and feelings and whatnot instead of putting them on the actual page. The tone's light and easy, some quirks of the worldbuilding are refreshingly unexpected (trolls! consensual hauntings!) but nothing was making the book stand out. If anything, quite a lot felt tired - especially the fact that Charlie lies about to Lorenzo about why he wants to learn about supernatural culture. I hate that trope, getting close under false pretences, lying for NO REASON: it can die in a fire. Absolutely not for me.
This book was definitely a fun time. I read this in one sitting. A male male paranormal romance between Charlie who is a journalist and Lorenzo the vampire.
Both of the main leads were great at the start. Lorenzo is amazing. I loved reading him. He was sarcastic and sassy. Chaotic in just the best ways. Charlie, on the other hand felt a little two-dimensional and I wasn't the biggest fan of him. At times he felt very annoying and grating. But he does kind of grow on me in the end.
I would not necessarily call this a hate to love romance because it doesn't last very long. The hating portion is wrapped up pretty early on in the book. It would definitely be classified as a paranormal rom-com, though. There were some absolutely laugh out loud hilarious moments in this book.
Although one thing I absolutely love about this book is hears that there is so many paranormal creatures. The sheer expands and variety is amazing to read. It's not just your basic level paranormal creatures. There are so many more and I loved that.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an arc of this book.
Advice columnist Charlie unexpectedly runs into Lorenzo, a vampire he once convinced his friend to break up with. What begins as a revenge plot turns into a low stakes cozy paranormal romance.
I will say I found this book to be okay. I was unsure whether to take this book seriously or not, as the characters and the world building felt a bit silly, but there were serious moments and emotions that forced the book to ground itself in a bit of reality for better or worse. Sweet romance that I don’t think I bought into 100% due to both of them holding back for 80% of the book. The major lie went on for toooo long and was resolved so fast my head spun. Compelling side characters that kept things light and interesting, but pacing that made for a drawn out beginning, a too quick ending, and a middle that meandered. I wish we got more conflict and characters with a bit more spark, but enjoyed the cozier aspects of this one.
Thank you to the publisher for my gifted copy in exchange for my honest review.
READ FOR - MM Paranormal Romance - Enemies to Lovers - Vampire/Human - Found Family - Spicy Scenes 🌶️
Lorenzo and Charlie's story is a fun and quirky paranormal romp. This book takes place in a universe where paranormal creatures are very much real and live out in the open. Not just werewolves, witches, and vampires, but fae, succubi, unicorns, poltergeists, and much more. The concept was super interesting to me, and I mostly enjoyed myself 98% of the time while reading. My one issue was the pacing and timeline. It felt a little jumpy at times. When I had the impression it had only been a day or two, we are told it had been two weeks. Sometimes, the author seemed to just skip over a bunch of time and gloss over what happened during that. It was mildly confusing. All that said, this is a great read! I had a lot of fun with its quirks and dry humor. In the acknowledgments, the author states that this was inspired by What We Do In The Shadows, and oh do I see it, and I love that. Overall, this is a good and worthwhile read. I will check out this author again in the future for sure.

⭐️ARC REVIEW⭐️ Overall I really enjoyed this novel, the characters were interesting and the urban fantasy of the world was a fun place to explore through them. The advice column snippets were hysterical and made it feel so lived in. I enjoyed all the fun side characters from various paranormal communities along with the intricacies of what was myth and what was truth behind the legends. I think we can all connect to themes of feeling lonely and not part of the collective, that was handled with such care in each characters' stories.
I think what missed the mark a little for me was the pacing and jumps in time/moments. Some scenes felt drug out while others where so quick I wondered how we got from point A to point B. I found myself asking why did we skip this mentioned scene that apparently had so much of an impact it was worth mentioning and instead add in another irrelevant moment that doesn't impact the main storyline? The focus seemed to be lost along the way and that made my attention wonder as well.
I think this is my first successful Goodreads giveaway book, lol. I have a few quibbles that I think are more related to the ARC itself, but I had such a fun time that I'm giving it the full 5 stars. This is exactly what I wanted!
I thought the characters in this novel were incredibly well fleshed out and three-dimensional. Particularly the description of loneliness and the ache of wondering what to do with your life when you're immortal. The romance was believable and sweet. There was no insta-love. The characters had reasons for wanting to be together. I think the main trope is enemies to lovers. This is a book for people who like their scenes a little spicier as there are several open-bedroom scenes. The variety of paranormal creatures was nice. I didn't like the end. However, there was nothing writing-craft wise to complain about with the ending. It merely didn't match what I was hoping would happen and that's merely a personal preference that other people likely will feel differently about. Thanks to the publisher for the ARC.
Going in to this, I knew it was going to be low stakes but I wasn't quite prepared for the lack of depth of the characters in order to achieve this. That's my only major complaint really. However I did like the romance between Charlie and Lorenzo, they were so sweet I have cavities from it. I also appreciate how the author incorporated the exposition about mythical creatures in a way that didn't come across as info-dumpy or take me out of the story.
Michael Crouch being the audiobook narrator, and my favorite one ever, is also why this is getting a 3 star rating from me. I'd listen to anything he narrates.
"Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ALC in exchange for an honest review"
3.5 🌟 This was so fun and stupid in a good way 😂 The nods to pop culture are always a fave in romance’s. Any book that quotes Schitts Creek is a winner in my eyes. I loved that this version of the world had every variation of supernatural creatures that you could think of and they all had very human problems. Charlie was so relatable in his choices and his own problems and thank you for not making him a twink 😂 I need a Lorenzo in my life, forever yearning for an older man that just so happens to have died hundreds of years ago 🤷🏻♂️ As usual, I love found family and this one didn’t miss in that department. The ending wrapped it up perfectly and I’ll definitely be looking into more of Lucy’s work 🩸
Coming out in October is a fun, fantasy-filled, queer romance and it is so good! Charlie and Lorenzo were so good together and all the background characters are so fun! I hope Lehane plans on writing more stories in this world, maybe about Maggie please!? So good! Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for my digital ARC!!
Thirsty *ARC review* Release date: October 14th 4/5⭐️
Thirsty by Lucy Lehane is a queer human and vampire romance perfect for the season. This book was a cute, cozy fall read. I really enjoyed both MMCs and loved the development of their relationship. I also enjoyed the integration of other supernatural creatures as well. The plot was continuous and kept my interest. This book does include modern day references, which I am not biggest fan of because it can take me out of the book. The spice scenes were well written. Overall this was a quick, good read. Recommend: Yes
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to review this book.
Amazing vampire romance to start off the spooky season! It was well written and very entertaining. I already knew I loved vampire fiction, but this really cemented vampire romance as a… particular interest of mine. I also appreciate the vampire mythology in this book, keeping classic elements but not all the newer cliches. I loved the emails and columns in response as well, but wished for more of it! I’d love to hear all the paranormal gossip and the Crone’s advice. Thank you to my local bookseller for lending me their ARC, prior to release.
Thank you so much to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the ARC!
I would describe this as a cozy paranormal romance, which I didn’t know when I picked up this ARC. Cozy books generally don’t work for me, but if you are a fan of cozy books, you’ll probably enjoy this more than I did.
What I liked the most about this story was actually the worldbuilding. It was interesting to see how different supernatural creatures/communities integrated themselves into the modern world (though I found the reference to A/B/O mpreg Teen Wolf fanfic to be SUPER cringe, sorry).
What didn’t work for me was the romance. I found both Charlie and Lorenzo to be on the bland side as characters, maybe because I couldn’t really suspend disbelief regarding their cozy, low-stakes motivations. (Lorenzo, the over 200-year-old vampire, wants revenge against Charlie…for breaking up a brief relationship he had with a university student? Okay. And why were all these internet strangers seeking out Charlie’s column for advice instead of going on Reddit?) And when their romantic relationship started to develop, it sort of felt like it came out of nowhere; they were annoyed one moment and feeling attracted to each other the next.
But I did like the theme of community, and the found family aspect of the book was pretty good.
