About the author

G.T. Karber grew up in a small town in Arkansas, the son of a judge and a civil rights attorney. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Arkansas with a degree in mathematics and English literature. Then, he moved to Los Angeles, where he received a Masters in Fine Arts from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts.

As the General Secretary of the Hollywood Mystery Society, a theater ensemble and cinematic social club, he has overseen the staging of more than 30 immersive whodunits in the LA area. His first feature film, Killer Party, a horror-comedy-musical-whodunit he co-wrote and directed, is currently in post-production with plans to premiere in festivals in 2023.

W tych czasach pełnych kultury obrazkowej, chodzenia na skróty i sztucznej inteligencji robiącej za nas najprostsze zadania warto jest pomyśleć o swoim mózgu, by nie zestarzał się i nie usnął zbyt szybko, o jego ćwiczeniach.

Ale spokojnie! Żadne karimaty czy ciężarki nie będą Wam potrzebne, nawet z łóżka wstawać nie musicie!

W Bordergrams wcielamy się w agenta rozpracowującego dystrykty tajemniczych państw. Na mapach zobaczymy tereny określone konkretnymi słowami, a naszym zadaniem będzie połączenie pól w czteroelementowe grupy – czasem na podstawie skojarzeń, czasem patrząc na podwójne znaczenie wyrazów, a innym razem na ich zapis czy liczbę liter. Są też podpowiedzi, chociaż nie tak oczywiste, by od razu rozpracować kod 😉

Nasz mózg będzie mógł uruchomić zarówno półkulę odpowiedzialną za myślenie logiczne, jak i tę od kreatywności.

Puzzles were fun, though most not very challenging. Difficulty didn't progress evenly but jumped around a lot: easy, harder. middling, easy, etc. Underlying story was abysmal. I've been a fan of Murdle and enjoy the characters, but this had only 4 named characters (if B and The Director are names) and all but one were horrible. Plot read like an incel's fever dream. Puzzles weren't good enough to make up for the ugliness of the story. Won't continue with this series.

It's a fun puzzle book, not too easy and not too hard. Only drawback is that it can be rather repetitive. Overall, it was a fun puzzle book to do and it was just right in terms of how challenging the puzzles were.

Have you ever done the New York Times' Connections game? This is the same thing. Fun enough, but sometimes makes you want to throw it at the wall. Bordergrams' clues are easier, but there's more plausible overlap in categories. My buddy reader, who does the Connections every day, dropped it and left me to do it alone. 🥲

I got this bc I love G.T. Karber's Murdle logic puzzles—I've done all 6 books! I was expecting the same clever characters, sardonic flavor text, witty humor throughout. Instead I awkwardly flipped back and forth to follow a half-hearted, cliché story and repetitive puzzles.

Spy stories meet the ‘Only Connect’ Wall.
The bonkers mind of J T Karber is back with a twisted tale of spy's and complicated missions. Solve the missions and then turn the page. This time, though, the puzzles take the form of groups of words that have something in common.
This is written with a British and American audience in mind. Whilst some of the clues felt very easy for those who are UK based, one or two had me thoroughly stumped. One about the gameshow Jeopardy felt as though it would be an easy win for a US readership. I'm sure there were some clues which cut the other way which I probably didn't notice, so in the end it all evened out. This book still gets five stars from me though because once I started the puzzles I couldn't stop.
I worked through the whole book in less than a week (fast for me with puzzle books) and had such a great time doing it. I am already looking forward to the next one.

I really enjoy the murdle series so I was looking forwards to more logic puzzles linked by a story, but this was such a disappointment. The puzzles are an irritating mix of formulaic (once you get the pattern, like cryptic, there's not much of a challenge) and also requires a very American pop culture reference (there was often one clue that could not be solved without some cultural reference, such as knowing American air freshener brands).

Autorzy serwują Wam 80 misji, które przypominają przesłuchania prowadzone przez wyjątkowo przebiegłego przeciwnika. Każda zagadka to gra pozorów: nic nie jest oczywiste, a to, co wydaje się rozwiązaniem, często okazuje się jedynie sprytną zasłoną dymną. Tu nie wystarczy wiedzieć — musicie myśleć jak detektywi, którzy czytają między wierszami i dostrzegają to, co ukryte.

Początek jest zwodniczo łagodny. Kilka poprawnych dedukcji, szybkie zwycięstwa, poczucie kontroli. A potem… coś się zacina. Trop prowadzi donikąd. Słowa zaczynają znaczyć zbyt wiele albo zbyt mało. I nagle orientujecie się, że zostaliście wciągnięci w intelektualną rozgrywkę, w której każdy błąd kosztuje czas, a każda poprawna odpowiedź daje satysfakcję porównywalną z rozwiązaniem zagadki zamkniętego pokoju.

Największą siłą tej książki jest jej przewrotność. To nie tylko zbiór łamigłówek — to misternie skonstruowana sieć pułapek, w której autorzy z premedytacją igrają z Waszymi przyzwyczajeniami. Raz wykorzystacie wiedzę o świecie, innym razem językowe niuanse, a czasem jedynie przeczucie, że coś „tu nie gra”.

I choć bywa frustrująco — bo bywa — to właśnie ten moment, gdy wszystko nagle wskakuje na swoje miejsce, uzależnia najbardziej. To uczucie, gdy z chaosu wyłania się sens, a Wy wiecie, że wygraliście kolejny pojedynek.

„Bordergrams” to nie książka do biernego czytania. To sprawa do rozwiązania. Najlepiej w duecie lub grupie — bo wtedy śledztwo nabiera rumieńców, a różnice zdań potrafią być równie gorące jak finałowe odkrycia.

Jeśli lubicie kryminały, które wymagają myślenia, a nie tylko przewracania stron — tu znajdziecie ich esencję. Tyle że zamiast śledzić detektywa, sami nim zostajecie 🔍

Dawno nie było jakiejś recenzji… I kiedy piszę tę, czuję, że za tym tęskniłam, jednak nic nie poradzę na to, że ostatnio miałam bardzo dużo na głowie i kompletnie nie miałam czasu.
Przechodząc do recenzji - „Bordergrams” to nie jest typowe „Murdle”. Ta książka łączy logikę, zagadki, słowa, a nawet życie codzienne. By je rozwiązywać, musisz głęboko zagłębić się w wyrazy, znaleźć sens i odkryć tajemnice regionów.

Powiem szczerze, że świetnie się bawiłam. Szukanie kontekstu zdań, który jest głęboko ukryty, daje dużo satysfakcji. Czasami chciałam się już poddać, a po chwili odkrywałam ukryte znaczenie, na które ciężko było wpaść.

Jak zawsze doceniam wydanie. Gramatura papieru, zadruki stron i oprawa graficzna zagadek są naprawdę świetne. Uważam, że w szczególności dużego uroku całej historii dodają dialogi między bohaterami. G.T. Carber (wraz z innymi autorami) znowu udowodnił, że jego zagadki niesamowicie wciągają i zachęcają do dalszego rozwiązywania.

Kończąc tę krótką, lecz treściwą recenzję, chcę Wam z całego serca polecić ten tytuł i zachęcić do treningu mózgu!

„Bordergrams. Rozwiąż 80 ściśle tajnych zagadek słownych i wygraj pojedynek szpiegów” to świetna zabawa i coś zupełnie innego niż klasyczna książka.

To taka pozycja, przy której naprawdę można się wciągnąć i dobrze bawić, szczególnie w większym gronie. U mnie sprawdziła się idealnie na święta, grałam razem z rodzeństwem i było naprawdę super, chociaż oczywiście nie obyło się bez małych kłótni 😅

Zagadki są ciekawe i czasami trzeba się przy nich trochę pogłowić, co jest dużym plusem. Nie są oczywiste, więc daje to satysfakcję, kiedy w końcu uda się znaleźć rozwiązanie.

Fajnie, że można do tego podejść na luzie albo zrobić z tego małą rywalizację, kto szybciej odgadnie. W kilka osób robi się jeszcze ciekawiej, bo każdy ma inne pomysły i spojrzenie.

To jedna z tych książek, do których można wracać i które świetnie sprawdzają się jako forma wspólnego spędzania czasu, nie tylko do czytania w pojedynkę.

Na pewno będę chciała sprawdzić inne tego typu pozycje, bo taka forma spędzania wolnego czasu naprawdę mi się spodobała.

Each puzzle invites you to solve a small mission before moving on, with this collection focusing on discovering the common thread between groups of words.

The variety of clues makes it clear the book was crafted for both British and American audiences. Some of the UK references felt approachable, while a few left me stumped. Conversely, a clue tied to Jeopardy! struck me as something U.S. readers would find effortless. I suspect there were instances leaning the other way as well, which created a well-balanced overall experience.

What truly stood out was how engaging and addictive the puzzles were. Once I began, I found it nearly impossible to stop. I completed the entire book in under a week—remarkably quick for me when it comes to puzzle collections—and thoroughly enjoyed the process. This is an easy five-star recommendation, and I’m already looking forward to the next release.

Rozwiązywanie zagadek słownych, poszukiwanie powiązań między wyrazami, wyłapywanie wskazówek i analizowanie dopasowań - brzmi banalnie i dla niektórych pewnie trochę nudno, ale sprawia mi ogromną radochę!

Całkiem serio - zaczęłam rozwiązywać jedną zagadkę, ale wciągnęłam się tak, że spędziłam przy BORDERGRAMS ponad godzinę. Oczywiście miałam ochotę bawić się dalej, ale uznałam, że muszę sobie tę przyjemność dawkować, żeby za szybko się nie skończyła 😅

Wydaje mi się, że łamigłówki z BORDERGRAMS są łatwiejsze niż te z MURDLE - ale z drugiej strony jest to zupełnie inny typ zagadek, więc pewnie ilu „rozwiązywaczy”, tyle opinii na ten temat.

I am enjoying Bordergrams: 80 Secret Spy Connection Puzzles from the Bestselling Author of Murdle by G. T. Karber, Daniel Donohue, Dani Messerschmidt and , Amin Osman published by St. Martin's Griffin.

The format of Bordergrams is just so fun! I enjoyed the becoming a member of The Division, solving puzzles by dividing the region (words) into a group of countries, and stretching my puzzle solving skills. I found Bordergrams: 80 Secret Spy Connection Puzzles unique, challenging, and a great way to stretch my brain. This would be fantastic for anyone thirteen plus to expand their brain power. I also believe this would be helpful for anyone preparing for high school standardized tests as you use synonyms and work with double meanings. I highly recommend!

I was expecting a puzzle book similar to Murdle, by the same author, and this just wasn’t as good. The puzzles were much more repetitive and lacked the charm and silliness that made me forgive the similar issue in Murdle. The characters were not engaging at all to me, and I mostly felt annoyed with them all. I felt like the plot couldn’t make up its mind if it wanted to be serious or silly, and never really hit the right balance.

Maybe I’m being unfair because of how much I enjoy the Murdle series, but those books are the reason I bought this one. I honestly wish I hadn’t, and would not recommend it.

Fun puzzles, except when suddenly they require unexpectedly deep knowledge of some obscure topic. For example, one puzzle relies on the title of a Netflix-only dating show I'd never ever heard of.

With crosswords, at least it's (usually) pretty clear when a clue relies on narrow knowledge I truly don't have, vs. general facts I should know but can't remember.
But with these Bordergrams, it's sometimes unclear whether it's an unfair category, vs. whether I'm missing something that I really ought to know & notice.
The answers are in the back, so when these sticking points come up, I could just check quickly and go on my way... but it's unsatisfying.

If you like the NYT puzzles, especially Connections, you should not hesitate to purchase this unique book. The puzzles seem easy at first but then become more challenging. There is a clever storyline woven around the puzzles along with entertaining clues that will keep you thoroughly engaged as you are a secret agent working for the Division to solve the puzzles. Bordergrams is a must have book for any puzzle lover in your group. Challenge your brain, have fun at the same time and perhaps order a few books for gifts.

Kolejny tytuł autora bestsellerowej serii Murdle - tym razem mamy zagadki słowne, przy których trzeba wykazać się giętkim językiem, znajomością synonimów i polisemii, a także kreatywnością, żeby podzielić słowa na równe kategorie według poleceń - a te same w sobie zapisane są szyfrem 😀.

W skrócie:

Z polecenia musicie wydedukować kategorię słów.

Na diagramie szukacie słów, które pasują do jednej kategorii.

Kombinujecie tak, żeby słowa z jednej kategorii się ze sobą stykały. a ilość słów w każdej grupie była równa.

These are really fun, solo or with a friend. The border aspect is interesting, but I think the explanation at the start is over complicated and therefore more confusing than it needs to be. Some of the categories and/or clues are hit or miss, but in general we have been able to figure them out even in the cases where we don't understand one of the clues, but they still provide the right amount of challenge.

Terrible underlying story. Stopped bothering with that & just did the puzzles. Very American literature, tv & movie focused clues and links. Difficulty was relatively modest and didn’t progress naturally as the puzzles continued. Overall I finished this just to tick it off & dispose of it. There’s much better logic puzzle books around.
