Espen Jetties #4

Breaking Through the Doubt

Rate this book
A goalie whose temper was legendary, Leslie Knoxton showed the world his tough exterior, but not the man he truly was. They saw the hockey star, not the person inside.

Over the years, he’d watched his teammates find their soulmates while he’d been waiting for his shot. On the ice, he knew the joy of winning, yet Leslie was also aware how much heartbreak could hurt. A chance encounter with a tattoo artist left Leslie wondering if it might be his turn.

Corey Mancini noticed the Jetties’ goalie from the moment he stepped through his door. Getting involved with a client was the worst mistake a business owner could make. Corey worked too hard to build his shop into a thriving business to have it go up in flames. Except, he couldn’t look away.

To have a chance at love, they needed to overcome the obstacles and break through the doubt. If they could make it past the hurdles in their way, Corey and Leslie could find a love like no other.

Leslie and Corey ❤️

3 Stars ⭐️

I hope I'm the minority when I say this: I feel so let down by Knox's story...ugh. Let me explain, so much build up from the previous books left me so excited for Knox to find the one. My disappointment came from the majority of this relationship build being off page. I mean there were some sweet moments and some spicy times but it still left me with the feeling that something was missing. No explosive moments, no epic build just two guys that went on a couple of tepid (at best) dates and Knox being all up in his head. I hate to write this because I've loved this series but this one was underwhelming imo. I would still recommend for fans of the series because it was nice to see Knox get his HEA after all of the anticipation.

I’m so glad Leslie found his love with Corey. Both guys deserved so much and finding it in each other is what made it magical. I can’t wait to see who’s next! I love this whole series and I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

Until a few months ago, just before another summer of training and rest, Leslie was an outstanding goalie for the Jetties but he was also a drunk who seemed to revel in fights. That changed over the last summer, he cleaned up his act, banished alcohol from his life and determined he was going to be a new man. In his 30s now he's beginning to feel that there's not much time left in his hockey career and he wants to go out on a high. Avoiding the bars after one of the first games of the season Leslie passes a tattoo parlour and, entirely on a whim, decides he wants something to remind him of the strength of his family.

Corey has worked hard to make it to where he is today. His childhood was a mixed experience, his drug addict mother left he and his father when he was only days old, reappearing in their lives every few years until disappearing entirely when he was 14. he and his father have a close bond, his father supporting him in getting his business set up and business is going very well. He is the owner of a tattoo parlour, one that is building such a good customer base he may well need a new tattoo artist. And then Leslie walks in. Any news of a celebrity using the parlour is sure to bring in more customers but what Corey sees is a man, a man he is very attracted to, a man he would like to get to know better.

Neither Leslie or Corey have dated for a long time, Corey dating mostly women having not met a man to tempt him, until Leslie. They begin on a slightly rocky footing as a result but, once the air is cleared they discover how much they love one another's company, how well they get along. if only Leslie didn't have such long stretches away from home, if only he could control his instinct to fight. And for Corey, well he needs to learn to let go of the past, to open up to Leslie, reveal all his truths, not just the ones he thinks will be enough. Both men have pasts that they want to put behind them, they each see something in the other that they want, need. They are important to one another, they have been bought together for a reason, now if only they would listen to the advice of their friends and their loved ones!

The Espen Jetties stories have all been fantastic and this one is no different. Whilst each book focuses on a different player, or players, they all feature heavily in each book. These men are more than a hockey team, they are best friends, they are family and they would do anything for one another, including always being there. Yet another fantastic MM hockey romance with one of the best fictional teams out there!.

4.25 Stars - We have been waiting for Espen Jetties goalie, Leslie Knoxton, aka Knox’s, story for a while now while he sits back and watches his teammates all find their significant others, falling in love and finding happiness. Knox has a bit of a reputation with his anger getting him into trouble but he’s been trying to turn that around. He decides to get a tattoo one day, and that’s when it all seems to change for him.

Corey is the shop owner and artist who takes Knox on as a client, and after some reluctance on mixing business with pleasure, Knox convinces him to take a chance on getting to know each other better. Both have some background “secrets” that eventually must be dealt with, but I loved how these two took their time initially in an attempt to achieve a more meaningful relationship. They really did seem perfect for each other. Corey was easily able to handle the aspects of Leslie’s job, although the road trips do get a bit difficult at times. However, Leslie is reaching the end of his career and this seems like perfect timing for him to try and figure out some future plans.

There are a few twists that take place concerning those previously-mentioned background “secrets,” but nothing is overly drawn out. These guys have a pretty decent record for communication aside from their separation causing issues at times. Needless to say, things don’t ever go on for very long before they are hashed out, and it never really seems as though their relationship is in jeopardy. I truly loved seeing Knox find happiness that he was longing for and his friend circle remains solid. I’m always up for a good hockey story/series, and this one has been really enjoyable. I’m not sure where this will go next, or if it will go in another direction entirely. Either way, Ms. Hadley has become an auto read for me, and I’ll be on the lookout for the next one whatever that may be.

So this is actually my first book by this author and this book is book 4 in a series which I'll definitely have to read the rest of. Reading about Leslie and Corey meeting and navigating getting to know each other while Leslie is a famous hockey goalie and Corey is a respected business owner and tattoo artist was a great ride. This was a quick read and for the length it is the author did a pretty good job packing a good amount of story in this book. Leslie has had a front row seat to all his friends meeting the loves of their lives and he's starting to want the same. He's had issues with drinking and anger in the past but this season of hockey he's determined to put that behind him and be the best player and person he can be. It doesn't come without it's challenges but he's determined but also he's starting to want more out of life. He loves hockey but it may be time to think about what comes after. And what comes after is many possibilities as well as the possibility at love with the right person. And in comes Corey. Corey is more focused on his career than dating or even hooking up. He wants to make his tattoo shop as successful as he can and puts his whole self into it. But when the gorgeous Leslie walks into his shop and wants a tattoo he starts to think there could be something there. Everyone sees the fame and the attractiveness that Leslie has yet Corey sees past that and past the media talking about his constant fights. Instead he sees a different man. A man worth getting to know even with the obstacles and the pasts they both have. I loved how they both stuck together in the hard times even in the beginning while they were barely starting and with Leslie traveling all the time for hockey. It wasn't an easy road but they believed in the love they had for each other and I'm so happy they were able to see beyond the doubt to the beautiful future they could have together.

First let me say I got this book from gay romance reviews and this is me leaving my honest review.
I’ve got to say, I really enjoyed this read. Leslie is the goalkeeper for Essen Jetties. He is very happy for his teammates as they find love and it makes him realise that he really needs to work on finding somebody to share his life with. One day as he’s walking he sees a tattoo shop and there’s a picture in the window that really draws him in. This is how he meets Corey who is the owner of the shop and agrees to do a tattoo for him. There is an obvious chemistry between these two from the start but Leslie still has doubts.
Corey has worked really hard to get his tattoo shop up and running and Made it a huge success. So when Leslie comes through the door, he recognises him straight away. As they talk about the tattoo that he wants, Corey realises he is really drawn to him. They chat all the way through the tattoo and Corey really has to talk himself Into not acting on the attraction as he is a client. When Leslie comes back a few days later explain that he lost his tattoo care letter. Corey asked him out for a drink but Leslie says no and leaves. Because what Corey doesn’t know is that Leslie suffers with alcohol problems and wasn’t sure going for a drink would be a good idea. Leslie talks to his friends about this and he goes back once again to see Corey to ask him who did he invite out Leslie the guy who got the tattoo or Leslie Knox the goalie for the jetties?? Corey gives his answer and then Leslie replies making out they would be going out on a date or just as mates hanging out ???
This was a great read about how these two make their relationship work . A magical read.

Knox’s story was so worth the wait.

In Breaking Through the Doubt, Haven Hadley finally gives us the much-anticipated romance for Jetties goalie Leslie “Knox” Knoxton—and it absolutely delivers. While his teammates have been finding love, Knox has been quietly struggling with anger issues, sobriety, and the fear that maybe love just isn’t in the cards for him. That all changes when he wanders into a tattoo shop and meets Corey.

Corey, a successful tattoo artist and shop owner, isn’t looking to blur the line between work and romance—but the spark between him and Knox is impossible to ignore. What begins as a client appointment quickly becomes something deeper, despite both men carrying personal baggage. Their chemistry is immediate, but it’s the emotional connection that makes their relationship shine.

I loved the slow build—two men trying to take things seriously, working through miscommunications and insecurities, yet never veering into unnecessary drama. Knox’s struggle to be seen as more than a hockey player, and Corey’s fear of letting someone in, felt honest and earned. Their quiet understanding, the way they supported each other, and the soft vulnerability underneath it all made this story so rewarding.

Add in the continued found-family feel with Knox’s teammates, a few emotional twists, and some beautifully handled personal growth, and this became one of my favourite books in the series.

Sweet, steamy, and heartfelt—Breaking Through the Doubt is a story about second chances, self-worth, and finding love when you finally believe you deserve it. Haven Hadley remains an auto-buy, and I can’t wait to see where the series goes next.

I have really enjoyed this book and so happy that Jensen got his happy ending! He is the one player that needed someone good in his life that is there for him and not because he's a hockey player and has money. I am so happy he found Corey when he did and the whole outcome of this book

Jensen is known for getting into fights and drinking. But, over the summer, he changed the way his lifestyle reflected on him. No longer drinking, he decides that there is something missing in his life. After seeing his friends and teammates finding their someone or someone's, he realizes that that's what he is missing. Someone to share his life and heart with. Cue in Corey, a tattoo artist that owns his own shop. As soon as Jensen sets his eyes on Corey, he knew he wanted this man to be in his life.

Corey is the local tattoo artist that wants someone in his life. Who would have thought a hockey player, a goalie to be exact, was that someone. After doing Jensen's tattoo, he starts liking this man sitting at his station and wants nothing more but to get to know him better. He already knows about his lifestyle but he sees a different Jensen..a kind and loving Jensen. After a horrible first date that started out with dinner, it ends with a sweet kiss. It's all Cory thinks about. But will telling him about his mother change things or will it solidify their bond?

This is such a sweet book that shows the trials and tribulations of Jensen and Corey's relationship. I have really enjoyed it!.

Through this series Leslie Knox had always got himself into trouble, liking more than a few drink and letting his fists do the talking. Seeing all his friends settle down. he is tired, tired of the travelling, tired of aching and tired of being alone.
Taking the summer to heal himself, he is ready to start the season a new man, and a spur of the moment decision finds himself on a tattooist chair. Corey whose shop he walked into is slowly building up his clients, knowing have his name out there as the man who tattooed the Jetties' goalie will be big, but there is something about Leslie that makes him want to spend more time with him and not with a tattoo gun in his hand.
Whilst there was an instant attraction between Leslie and Corey, it wasn't rushed and I liked seeing their relationship grow. Family was important to both and I enjoyed reading how close-knit Leslie was with his family, I do enjoy a large family and even though he is famous they still give him grief. Whilst theirs is a sad history Corey and his dad were as close and I liked that his dad was supportive with Corey's decisions.
When things didn't go to plan Leslie could count on his friends and whilst Devon was still the supportive one and King and Hayes provided the comedy elements, but I was really surprised at Jensen and all I can say is living with Stephen is so good for him.
One of my favourite Hockey series

4.5 stars!

This is book four in the author’s Espen Jetties series and features Leslie, the Jetties’ goalie.

Leslie broke my heart. With everyone from his team’s closest friend group pairing up and finding their One (or two), Leslie was feeling alone and lonely and struggling with doubts about if the travel and everything associated with hockey was even something he wanted to do anymore. As a result, he was drinking too much and getting into fights, making him a target for reporters’ criticism. When he decided to get a tattoo at the spur of the moment and met Corey, his tattooist, it sparked a desire in him for more than his usual one night stands, hoping for what his friends had found…with Corey.

I loved both of our MCs, they were sweet and caring and so adorable together. One thing that I absolutely loved (and this makes every book I read like that just a little more perfect) is that it’s completely angst and drama free. No third act breakup, no one trying to make the other jealous, neither was mean or mistreated the other…it was just a sweet romance with plenty of steam and a lot of joking around from Leslie’s teammates and Corey’s coworkers. Basically a fun, sweet, smexy read. 4.5 stars!!

This is book four of this amazing series and I think it might be my favorite. There’s one that I missed that I need to go and read so they can all connect for me. Every book that Haven writes always impresses me. I was expecting more from Knox’s story but I loved what we did get.

Leslie and Corey were everything. I loved they they both were not perfect and they were so adorable together. The way that the two of them met was perfect. The attraction was there from the moment that Leslie was walked into Corey’s tattoo shop.

Their first date was so cute because it was so awkward but towards the end, it got better. That first kiss at the end was everything and more.

The found family was so adorable and I loved the bond the guys had with one another. It only got better with each story. Also, the relationship that Corey had with his father was so sweet because of the not so great relationship he didn’t have with his mother. This was definitely one of the cutest sport romances I’ve read and it made me want so much more.

I was so much looking forward to Knox’s story, the Jetties goalie … In the previous books we got glimpses of an angry with the whole world Leslie, tired, ready for a change. One day, he walks into Corey’s tattoo shop and this is where it all begins.
It’s a sweet story of two men who despite having almost everything in their lives, the good and the bad, there’s one thing missing. Love.

“Our eyes locked and I knew in that moment there was no going back. I was gone for him. Probably way faster and way deeper than I should have been, however, I didn’t care. Nothing else mattered right now except the two of us.”

There are a couple of awkward first dates and trying to balance work and personal life. I really loved seeing them both grow, page after page, learning to share and talk, reaching a well-deserved HEA.

“Words. Tell me what you want.”
“You. Everything you’re willing to give me.”
“All of me. I’m giving you everything.”

“Breaking Through the Doubt” is book 4 in the “Espen Jetties” series. There are mentions of drug abuse (off page), assault and homophobia.

Thank you Haven Hadley for trusting me with an ARC of Leslie and Corey’s book. It’s an honor.

This is book 4 of the Espen Jetties series. While it can be enjoyed as a standalone read I think that you will get much more out of it if you read the series in order. This is the story of Leslie Knoxton and Corey Mancini. Leslie is the goaltender for the Espen Jetties. He has returned after the summer break eager to play hockey. He has faced his demons and is not drinking anymore. He is also reducing the unnecessary fights that he had off the ice by no longer drinking. The first win back, Leslie goes out and decides to get a tattoo. He walks into Corey's shop. Corey has worked hard to achieve his goal of being a tattoo artist and owning his own shop. There are sparks between them from the start. Leslie is tired of all his friends finding their forever friend. So he goes back and asks Corey is he is interested is Leslie or the Espen goaltender. Corey admits that he likes the goaltender but he is interested in learning more about Leslie. This is their story. Both of these characters has a fair bit of baggage that they had to deal with before they could truly invest in each other. The book is written well and is easy to read. I really enjoyed the book.

The best hugs, Yuengling, arm needle tracks, matching sticks & pucks tats, PR classes, police officers, tall white oak, Thai food

The ravages of drug addiction is shown in stark detail. Descriptive violence is also present. So if it triggers you, it's best to think twice before reading this book. Though I must say the deft writing conjures vivid and graphic imagery. Other than those two topics, it's a great MM romance with some humor sprinkled in. You'll see characters from the previous books in supporting roles. To get their stories, it's in Books 1 - 3 which are just as amazing as this story.

Corey is a tattoo artist and shop owner. Leslie is an Espen Jetties goalie. When they first meet, it's instant mutual attraction. Corey's tattoo shop is growing and it's getting hectic. The hockey season is about to begin and that includes long away game road trips. It's challenging for Leslie and Corey find days to go on dates. Even more challenging is the media attention Leslie constantly gets. As usual, both MCs have baggage that is difficult to unpack.

I enjoyed reading this very much and look forward to seeing future installments in the series. Recommended!

When Jetties goalie Leslie meets tattooist Corey, sparks fly, but both are slow to do much about it. Between practice, games, and being on the road, Leslie is very busy, and Corey’s tattoo business has more customers than he knows what to do with. As they reach out and try to spend time together, the attraction grows and feelings develop until both are all in. When Corey’s past interferes and Leslie’s past intersects with Corey’s, both fear their connection may be lost. Will the relationship withstand the present or will the past tear it apart?

Lots of hockey action and great world building on the ice and off, same for the tattoo parlor, great main and side characters with lots of chemistry whether friends, teammates or partners, two totally different past events that impact the present and intersect, and two lonely men who find the love and connection they want and need. A satisfying read with a few emotional places that made my heart catch and a story that kept me interested and engaged.

Espen Jetties goalie Leslie Knoxton has a reputation for fighting, especially when he’s been drinking. After a summer away from Espen, he returns determined to turn over a new leaf. He’s stopped drinking. Leslie gets into one fight, and knows he needs to work on not just his sobriety. After one game, he decides he wants a tattoo, and ends up in Corey’s tattoo shop.

Corey has created a successful business with two other artists and an apprentice. He has built a reputation as a solid artist, and works with Leslie to create a unique and personal design for his first tattoo. The scenes in Corey’s tattoo shop between him and Leslie are intense and sweet.

This is a nice slow-burn romance, with some great character development. Other Jetties players appear in the story, but this can definitely be read as a standalone.

it's so good to have Leslie's story, especially with how much trouble he was getting into. Corey is a great fit for him but also stands as a good character by himself.
There are elements of hurt/comfort, especially for Corey when it comes to his mother. The two men offer comfort and understanding to each other throughout the story. Leslie hasn't been magically cured of his temper but it's easy to see the changes he has made to be better/less reactive.
The found family vibe of the team is also hugely important. You can tell how much they mean to each other, both on and off of the ice. Each guy is invested in Leslie's happiness, with hockey and with the possibility of something with Corey. Him having to see all of his closest friends so happy and in love has been hard, but finding Corey and the chance at something for himself, no matter how scary when he often sees himself as not enough, changes things for him.
Another great read in this series. It has a good balance of the MC's relationship as well as friendships and hockey content.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

To say I've been waiting on Knox's story is an understatement. The teasers of him in past books had me so ready. Knox has a history of heavy drinking and getting into public fights that could be avoided. He had cleaned up his act however in the last book. He's determined to stay on the right path.

Knox is struggling because everyone around him is happy and falling in love. He desperately wants to find his own person and be loved. In walks Corey. These two were drawn to each other from the beginning. There was a tad bit of miscommunication however this is quickly cleared up and these men start their journey together.

This story isn't completely smooth sailing for our MCs but these issues tend to be outside of the relationship instead of between our two MCs. Despite these issues our two men are determined to remain by each other's side.

I received an advance review copy, and this is my honest review.

This book is a standout in an already amazing series. Breaking Through the Doubt gives us everything we love about MM sports romance—grit, heart, and heat—with an irresistible pairing: a fiery hockey goalie and a steady, grounded tattoo artist.

Leslie has always been a favorite background character with his tough exterior, so getting inside his head was a treat. Watching him soften for Corey while still staying fiercely protective was pure magic. Corey is equally compelling—a hardworking artist with a quiet strength that balances Leslie’s intensity perfectly.

Their chemistry crackles from the start, and while they face real emotional and social challenges, the payoff is deeply satisfying. Haven Hadley never shies away from complex themes, but she handles them with grace and honesty.

A five-star read for fans of slow burns, found family, and hockey heat. Loved every minute.

This is the 4th book in Espen Jetties series featuring Leslie and Corey's emotional hockey slow-burn romance. Leslie is a hockey goalie who's known for having a HOT temper however all the outside world sees is the tough exterior that goes with being a hockey star not the man he really is. As Leslie watched his teammates find their soul mates he's been waiting for his turn which finally comes with a chance encounter with tattoo artist Corey. Corey noticed the hockey goalie as soon as he walked in but business owners aren't supposed to date clients yet Corey couldn't look away from Leslie. Can they overcome the obstacles and make it through the hurdles in their path to find a love like no other? You really need to read this emotional hockey slow-burn romance to see what happens. I would recommend reading this book.

A sweet easy romance about two men that fight their attraction as long as they can before they give in. Leslie, the famous hockey player, has a public persona, one of being difficult and a fighter, especially when alcohol is involved. Suddenly however he is ready to turn a new leaf, thinking about life post hockey. When he decides to get a tattoo he meets Corey, a successful business man who is only concerned with his job, not relationships or dating. So both me got issues to overcome and in the end their chemistry wins out. This is the first book in this series I have read but for sure will go back and read them all as I suspect some of the fun supporting characters in this one were in earlier books. Reminds us we can start life anew and find happiness. I did receive an ARC and leave this honest review.

Leslie decided no more drinking so no more fighting but he defended a person that ended on the internet but told the owner never again. He stopped in Corey’s tattoo shop and got a tattoo with his family’s names. Corey and Leslie felt a connection but Leslie is gone a lot and is Corey’s client but they give into their feelings. Corey was going to give Leslie another tattoo when Corey’s mother shows up, Corey tells her to leave but later Leslie hears her crying. He goes to help her and gets blackmailed to get a video deleted and later she is found dead. Leslie retires and goes to college to help in the PR department.

Thank you, Haven Hadley, for my copy of Breaking Through The Doubt, book 4 in the Espen Jetties series. I definitely recommend reading the previous books to avoid spoilers. Leslie "Knox" Knoxton finally gets his Redemption and HEA in Breaking Through The Doubt. A lot of his personal growth happened before the start of this book. When avoiding a bar, Leslie is drawn to the art in the tattoo shop window, on a whim he goes in to get his first tattoo. This is the first meeting with Corey, tattoo artist and owner.

Excellent! Leslie, loved hockey. He's come a long way and implemented a program of discipline to control his anger and fighting. Corey, has a tattoo shop and a great crew. When they meet, they each meet a need in each other.Leslie, team mates and family, are amazing. I love the friendships and camaraderie among the team. Corey, is pulling a lot of pain and conflict from his family. He occasionally puts it down, but it doesn't go away. There are a few bad decisions but a lot of support. Great story, I absolutely love most of the characters. Great flow, a bit of adventure excitement. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I have been waiting for Leslie's book and I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed the instant connection and chemistry between Leslie and Corey but also how they were hesitate to take that first step with each other. These two are dealing with there own demons while trying to make a relationship work. Thankfully these two are more than willing to help and be there for each other. I am really looking forward to more from the Jetties and this awesome writing duo.

This was my first time reading a book by this author, and it definitely won’t be the last. The story of Cory and Leslie was engaging from the very start—I couldn’t put it down until I turned the final page. The author delivers a solid, heartfelt narrative filled with strength, trust, and love. It’s a touching journey that kept me invested throughout. If you’re looking for a compelling romance with emotional depth, this one’s worth picking up. I’m looking forward to exploring more from this author!

Thank you for the book, here is my honest opinion:
This series has excellent world building and I love the supportive team vibes on the Jetties. This is goalie Leslie’s story, I liked both MCs and appreciate that they have minimal needless drama in their relationship. Leslie is trying to clean up his more wild off ice behavior, I appreciate that this was for himself and wasn’t just inspired by meeting Corey. I liked the quick chemistry, even if it was a touch slow moving, I always enjoy spending time in this world. I liked the couple, another example Jetties romance!

I would have liked to see more relationship-building in this one. Leslie and Corey went on a few dates and then they were just together. There was very little tension or build-up in their relationship. Leslie felt a bit directionless as well. I liked Corey, though; the story with his mother added some much-needed gravitas and conflict.

Leslie Knoxton’s legendary on-ice temper hid a fiercely guarded heart—until tattoo artist Corey Mancini’s steady hand and daring stare breached his defenses. As their forbidden spark sizzles amid locker-room pressures and looming scandals, they must brave every power play—on and off the ice—to finally break through the doubt and claim their own victory lap.

Thanks to Gay Romance Reviews for providing an ARC

Another book in the Jetties series, and yet another knockout piece of work from this author.

We now get to be told about Knox’s story- the loveable goalie who is ever so lonely and just wants to find love and someone to come home to.

He happens to meet Corey- who runs his own tattoo shop and who has his own demons.

This is a great read and I am hoping for more in the series
