MATTRESS TESTERS WANTED by Marie Reynard - 4.25 stars

Honestly, it’s always a freaking pleasure to (re)visit the MateHub universe. Loved this.

Don’t know yet if I will pick up this antho for another story. Has someone discovered any other good ones in there?

pre-read note:

Bahahahaha, there seems to be a new trend in the writing/reading community... REVERSE TROPES.
I'm super excited to see what these authors will come up with when they reverse the "Only One Bed" trope in this one.

Can't wait for Marie Reynard's entry. The blurb in the Mate-Hub universe already sounds hilarious.

I hope authors are going to join this bandwagon and bring us some epic and fresh entertainment with this trend. 🪅🎊🎉

⇢ And hey! I'm dying for someone to write a "Divorce of Convenience" romance.

Too Many Beds - 10 Stories - Overall rating: 4
I really enjoyed this reverse trope anthology! It was really fun seeing everyone's interpretations of too many beds, but my favourite by far was Marie Reynard - I cannot get enough of the MateHub world and this was the perfect addition to it! A lot of these authors were first time reads for me also, and I'm now curious to see what other books they've written - always a good sign for an anthology!

Mattress Testers Wanted - Marie Reynard (5)
Absolutely loved the chemistry between Storm and Ryder and I felt edged when it ended before they officially mate!!! I really hope these guys appear again in the MateHub series. The humour is so perfect too - I was laughing so hard at all the cheesy lines and the forum did not disappoint!

Killers Like Us - L Eveland (4)
This made me feel like I was in a black and white film in the middle of a rainstorm and I really, really enjoyed that feeling. Definitely an interesting take on too many beds, and I hope they made it to Canada!

Relentless - Adelaide Blaike (4)
Really enjoyed this! The chemistry between Xem and Asher was really good and I loved how Xem made Asher really work for his affection, even though they were fated soulmates. This author was new to me and I'm keen to read more.

Pillow Biting - BL Jones (4)
Another new to me author that I loved! The chemistry was amazing, the humour was perfect and it's British which instantly puts me at ease because I don't have to struggle to picture the setting or hear accents 😂 I do feel a little edged again though and I need to know what happens next!

Sleepwalk of Shame - Ashlynn Mills (3.5)
Pure smut!!! Honestly, it's hard to appreciate when you're Ace and prefer plot and building connections over spicy content. I prefer getting to know a character, not how many orgasms they can have / loads they can take 😂 If you like bikers and all smut no plot then you'll probably really like this.

Bedchambers and Broomsticks - Amy Campbell (DNF)
This just wasn't for me. I do struggle with 3rd person POV when the characters names keep getting repeated - I don't see the need to use their given name every single time they're mentioned rather than using 'he' for example, and my brain just kinda itches, which then makes an unpleasant reading experience 😬

Vastpink Fever - Jem Zero (3.5)
Space orgy - that's all I have to say 😂

Too Many Beds at Crofton Hall - Rebecca Cohen (3.5)
Very interesting seeing Crofton in a different light! I liked the scavenger hunt to find the right bed.

Below The Beds - FA Lantern (3)
I don't think this writing style was for me, but I loved the idea of the monster under the bed growing up alongside the kid into adulthood.

The Last Bed - Jessica A McMinn (4)
I felt so sorry for Eden! I actually would have liked to see more of him with Heron, that felt like it was building up to something more like what Eden deserved from a partner. I do wish we'd seen Tarrant get some kind of comeuppance though, what an absolute bellend.

A trope subversive Gay anthology

We all know and love the classic ‘only one bed’ trope, so the idea of there being too many beds is a fun one, and I’m glad some authors decided to explore it in this creative & diverse anthology.
The stories are short and easy to go through, and I love the array of genres they displayed. From monsters under the bed to superheroes fighting mattresses, there really is a story for all tastes in here.
While I would love to say I enjoyed every one of them (and I was soooo fucking close), I still had the most fun I’ve ever had with an anthology and I hope more authors explore the magic of trope flipping.

// SPOILERS AHEAD //

🐺Mattress Testers Wanted by Marie Reynard 4.5 🌟 📸

Two pornstars test a lot of beds…too many beds.

I love the MateHub universe, so although this was very short it was still hot and fun. Even if we don’t get to know them all that much, you can still feel the passion between Storm & Ryder. Hot spice and a fun scenario.

“You want my knot?” he asked. “Yes,” Ryder breathed out. That wasn’t his line, but it got the point across. “You want me to bite you, bond you, knot you?”
“Fuck yes.”

Tropes:
- Pornstar MCs
- Wolf shifter vs mage
- Rimming

🏨 Killers Like Us by L Eveland 4 🌟🛏️

Two former mafia men on the run have an entire motel to themselves.

“I can’t sleep. There are too many beds in my room.”

These short stories are such a tease. Jasper & Lee seem to have so much more to tell, but this was still a sexy short.

“It’s lonely as hell over here and I don’t want to be alone no more.”

Tropes:
- References to murder
- Homophobia
- Mafia themes
- Touch aversion except for MC
- Mentions of parental abuse
- Rimming

🪄Relentless by Adelaide Blaike 3.5 🌟

Novice mage Asher has to win some duels if he wants to earn the bed next to his soulmate.

“You want that bed, Asher?” He leaned in until cinnamon became all Asher could smell, taste, feel, somehow see. “Then earn it.”

This as a full-length novel would be amazing — a straight-forward magic system, academia vibes, a hate to love relationship. It definitely doesn’t shine as much as it could in just 100 pages. Still, fun and cute but could be sooo much more.

“It occurred to me that there were too many beds in here, Asher.”

Tropes:
- Mage MCs
- Fated mates
- Coming untouched
- Unexpected role reversal

🦸🏻‍♂️Pillow Biting by BL Jones 3.5 🌟 ☁️

A day of bed shopping turns into two superheroes fighting against biting monster pillows and attacking mattresses

What do I see when I look at Caleb Moon?

Oh, I was so upset when this one ended, ‘cause it ends on this unsatisfactory cliffhanger/happy for now note and I neeeeeed their full story. Superheroes, found family, a possible friends to lovers, with lots of pining and broken boys??!!

“The best thing, Cal,” I tell him. “Just the very best thing.”

Tropes:
- Superhero MCs
- Pining
- Friends to lovers
- No spice

💤Sleepwalk Of Shame by Ashlynn Mills 5 🌟 🏍️

I went from wanting one unattainable man, to lusting after three. But this is just a job for them. Not the time to reenact my favorite porno.

….Oakley says. And then proceeds to fuck all three, even in his sleep.

This was just a sexy story, so of course I loved it. Hot biker dudes who bang each other + sleepwalker with sexsomnia = deliciousness.

“Whatever princess needs, princess gets”

Tropes:
- MMMM
- Biker MCs
- Tattoos
- Dub-con
- Sexsomnia
- Somnophilia
- Frotting
- Rimming
- Felching

🛏️Bedchambers & Broomsticks by Amy Campbell 3.5 🌟🧹

A bed-making competition leads to two opposing men trying out their creations.

“Forget the competition,” he rumbled. “Right now, all that matters is you and me.”

This was ridiculous, but still pretty fun. It needed just like a handful of pages to really finish up their story and not leave me hanging.
‘Cause that ending? Such a tease.

Tropes:
- Woodworker vs mage
- Rivals to lovers

🚀Vastpink Fever by Jem Zero 3.5 🌟 💎

Crystal dust turns out to be a potent aphrodisiac. Thankfully, the crew has plenty of beds.

“Always said this room has too many beds in it,” Poe says, looking around. “Split them up and we’d get more privacy.” “More privacy means fewer impromptu gang bangs.”

This was a smutty & short gangbang erotica piece. Fun times, but not the best.
Loved the trans rep, so bonus points for that.

Tropes:
- MM+ gangbang
- Trans MC
- Aphrodisiac (no dub-con)
- Overstimulation
- Forced orgasm

🎩Too Many Beds at Crofton Hall by Rebecca Cohen 3 🌟🐊

A treasure hunt, and the prize is a night in Lord Crofton’s bed.

“You want to spend a night in my bed, all you have to do is find it.”

Again, a bit of a tease. Way too short, not enough sexiness to be erotica. A couple more pages, a bit more of the sexy Lord, and I might’ve enjoyed this a tad more.

Tropes:
- Victorian-era
- MM+

😈Below The Beds by F.A. Lantern 5 🌟🕯️

The monster under your bed might just be the man of your dreams.

I loved Ben & Luce’s story. Angsty but sweet, packed a punch of feels and had a dash of spiciness that hit just right. I loved the role reversal, the demon being the small & cute one and the human taller and dominant.
I could read about these two for hours.

Luce is warm and small and smells like a freshly extinguished candle, sweet and smoky. Impossible or not, dream or not, it doesn’t matter. Ben never wants to let him out of his sight.

Tropes:
- Monster vs human
- Domestic violence
- Child abuse
- Size difference
- Virgin MC

⛓️‍💥 The Last Bed by Jessica A. McMinn 2.5 🌟💊

Blinded by love, Eden will do anything for Tarrant. Even go to prison.

I want it so badly I got myself arrested—locked up just to be here with him.

This one was the darkest of them all. It was too angsty for such a short story, didn’t really fit the light-hearted theme of the anthology for me. I’m glad that Eden got a sort of happy-for-now moment there at the end, but his story was just a tad too much on the dark side.
Thought I was gonna finally get a queen sweep in an anthology for once and enjoy all the stories, but this one was a no for me.

Tropes:
- Sexual assault
- Violence
- Emotional & physical abuse
- Prison setting

✨ARC REVIEW✨

I love anthologies! It's like an assortment of snacks, some you already know you like and some are totally new to you. This one had the subversion of the only one bed trope and I thoroughly enjoyed all the take on it. I'm going to highlight a few of my favourites, though I liked all of the stories:

Mattress testers wanted by Marie Renard: I've had Matehub in my tbr forever, and after reading this short I know I'm going to love it. There's humour and fun sexy times, so 10/10 would recommend.

Killers Like Us by L. Eveland: two mobster of very different personalities are on the run and even though they aren't sharing bed or even room, they end up together. It was quite raw and I loved it.

Relentless by Adelaide Blake: loved the magic academia setting and the idea of a soulmate making you prove yourself.

Pillow Biting by BL Jones: duo of superheros fight their antagonist at a bed shop. Fanged mattresses aren't fun.

Sleepwalk of Shame: because one horny lil twink can have 3 horny big bikers, even if he has to sleep walk to do it.

Bedchambers and Broomsticks by Amy Campbell: a competition to make the best bed for a royal marriage ends up uniting a mage and a woodworker in unexpected ways.

Vastpink Fever by Jem Z: give me all the aphrodisiac fuelled orgies, please and thank you. Especially if there is a trans MC.

Too Many Beds at Crofton Hall: it gave Victorian debauchery via treasure hunt and I loved it.

Below the Beds by L. A. Lantern: the beginning of this story broke my heart, but who wouldn't want to fall in love with the monster under their bed, right?

Super fun read. It took me a while because I wanted to savour the stories.

I picked this up for Marie Reynard’s Mattress Testers Wanted and it did not disappoint. I cannot wait until Matehub King releases because I forgot how much I missed the Matehub community boards, the bad porn dialogues and the absolute chemistry the “actors” have when filming and beyond. I think I was annoyed as these two because the director kept edging them and me by continually saying “CUT” and moving to the next scene. I’d gladly take an expanded novella of this couple.

However, I also read Adelaide Blaike’s story and thought the take on the too many beds was well done. I might read more but as of now I don’t have the attention span for it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I would love to see more books or anthologies with the reverse trope theme. Had this one had more than just the one trope, I think I would have stayed in engaged for longer but I still enjoyed what I read.

Ratings for the stories I read. I may come back to the others but these are the ones that jumped out to me.

1. Mattress Testers Wanted - Marie Reynard *5/5 stars*

I mean what’s not to love? Marie is an expert at juggling humor, smut, and gooey feelings and this short story was no exception. The MateHub producers are truly ridiculous and the premise of this shoot is no exception.

Storm and Ryder’s chemistry was FIRE and by the end I was desperately hoping for a mating bite. Like there is nothing that hits quite like two adult actors that literally forget where they are because they are completely wrapped up in each other 👌 And the ending? So damn adorable honestly.

2. Killers Like Us - L Eveland * 3/5 stars*

This was okay. It would have benefitted from being a longer story for sure. It had all the elements there but just fell a bit flat for me. I want to know more about their history that led them to where they are, and I want to know if they make it to Canada and does Lee wife up Jasper? 👀

3. Sleepwalk of Shame - Ashlynn Mills *4/5 stars *

Smutty smut smut. It was hot and I can’t complain. The son of a MC club president is holed up for safety reasons with 3 hot bikers. And he sleep ✨fucks✨ so yeah.

Oh my GOSH this was so much damn fun.

Thank you for the ARC opportunity! I loved it.

I am going to review my favorite 4 stories within the anthology- I tend to be wordy and am unable to write quick little reviews, so I thought this would be the best way to do it versus trying to review them all! SUCH a fun take on the "only one bed" trope-- mix it right up, flip it upside down and turn into the reverse trope of "too many beds--" genius!!

My favorite four:

"Mattress Testers Wanted" by Marie Reynard

"Relentless" by Adelaide Blaike

"Below the Beds" by F.A. Lantern

"The Last Bed" by Jessica A. McMinn

***Mattress Testers Wanted by Marie Reynard***

It came as no surprise to me that I LOVED this one-- I am a HUGE fan of Marie Reynard and the Matehub world never fails to deliver a damn good time. This story made me even more feral than I already was for a book starring Tristan, our cranky mage who is too cool for all of the Matehub BS and puts up with all of these crazy shifters because he MUST- for the SAKE OF HIS JOB- but who is really a softie at heart, as we saw in Matehub: Legend.

My mouth dropped open when I read this.....

"Yellow tattoos unfurling over a muscular chest, the whir of an espresso machine, the soft brush of fur against his skin."

YESYESYYESYESYESYEYS! Tristan baby you have FURRRRR in your future!! CUE HAPPY DANCE. I CANNOT WAIT, MARIE!!!!

Fangirl time over... because this story is actually about shifter Storm, and mage Ryder, cast together by those ever-so-talented Matehub writers to act out a scene where they have to test ALLLLL the mattresses in a warehouse, so they can narrow the options down to ones that can handle a thorough shifter banging, but also be soft enough for post-knotting cuddling. *SNORT.* I love it.

The edging in this story was so HOT- as these two, who were very unexpectedly drawn to one another, had to test bed after bed before being allowed to finally finish. I love when these idiots realize they are screwed- that this person they were dreading working with actually smells and feels right- gives me the happy zappies every time.

"He'd never understood when mages said shifter energy was appealing, but now he absolutely did. It sang to him, luring him in with its sweet siren song."

The ending was perfect-- the promise of MORE between them felt right for the wrapping up of this short story. I hope we get to see more in future shorts or in a full-length version! And of course, it wouldn't be a Matehub book without the forum-- I cannot get enough of how Marie writes the forum guys (in this case, "Storm Swell's Chasers.") LOL. I love those horny idiots gossiping about how hot "StormRyder" is and how claws were popping and magical tattoos were lighting up... what I wouldn't give to be a fly on the actual Matehub wall!

Thank you, Marie-- I loved it!!

***Relentless*** by Adelaide Blaike
Ahhh I really loved this one. It hit a lot of buttons that are normally hits for me- magical school, competition, fated mates, TENSION.

Asher is a first year mage-in-training at a magical school- I was getting Hogwarts vibes in a really good way. Upon arrival, he is hit square in the face with the realization that his fated mate was somewhere on campus- his entire body and soul were lighting up to be close to him- he could smell him and feel him.

Unfortunately, Xem-- a third-year mage-- is very powerful, very conceited, and completely uninterested in Asher, although Asher cannot believe for one second that Xem doesn't also feel the pull between them. Class competitions were so much fun to read- LET ME TELL YOU- there was one scene in a classroom involving a MAGICAL VINE that just.... IT WAS HOT. When Asher antagonizes Xem, needing to just be near him, needs his attention, even if it is negative attention-- Xem proceeds to tie him up with a magical vine, back him hard against the wall as the class watched... and TURN HIM THE F*CK ON-- publicly. This is the stuff, yall- it was SO GOOD.

"You blush so prettily," Xem murmured, twisting his wrist so that his long fingers could stroke against Asher's. "And I could feel how you fought against my magic even as you surrendered to it. Did you like being at my mercy?"
Asher could only stare at him.
F*ck me. No seriously, do.

Asher tries so hard to get closer... all the poor kid wants is proximity. But there were so many rooms... so many roommates.. so many beds between his room and Xem's. The only way to earn a spot in Xem's room as his roommate would be to rise above all of the students at the school to beat everyone but Xem in a magical duel- and so Asher sets out like a man possessed to earn that spot.

The ending was FREAKING PERFECTION- there was a little twist, very hot spice and above all, my favorite thing- fated mates securing a bonded connection. *Chef's kiss!*

This one had me rushing to look up this author's backlist- I loved this magical story and can't wait to read more of hers!

***Below the Beds*** by F.A. Lantern

This story was giving me HUGE "Little Monsters" vibes- which is a big compliment, considering that was one of my favorite movies as a kid-- but make it gay, make it emotional, and make it HOT. Winner!

Ben is a kiddo in trouble- he exists inside the foster system, and struggles to remain on the straight and narrow. His biggest hurdle is that he is too kind-- he cannot seem to bring himself to sit idly by while bullies hurt and target younger, smaller boys- and so he always finds himself in fights, defending others smaller than him.

In one awful foster home, something magical happens right before his foster father is about to hurt him-- a monster appears from underneath his bed, and kills the foster father before he can hurt Ben. And Ben ... well, Ben is never able to forget about the monster- for more reasons than simply the fact that acted as his protector.

As years go by, the monster- beautiful, ethereal Luce-- enters in and out of Ben's life, at times existing for months beside him and at other times disappearing for long stretches of time. As an adult, when it has been years since Ben has seen Luce, his therapist assures him Luce was a trauma-induced hallucination, an image his mind created in order to feel safe.

What was real and what wasn't?

This is the story of Ben and Luce once Luce re-enters Ben's life, for good.

This one was emotional!! I got a LOT of the same vibes as the recent movie release "If--" about adults also needing their childhood friends, whether they be imaginary or otherwise. This is a story about being brave enough to believe in the supernatural... and being brave enough to fall in love, even if you fall in love with a creature that is not human.

It struck me right in the feels. It was also hot, with just the right amount of spice to tag along with the emotions.

Magical and romantic!

***The Last Bed*** by Jessica McMinn

This story was riveting from start to finish. I feel like this one could have easily bordered into "too dark," but the author did such a great job toeing that line and keeping the content real enough to be intense and suspenseful, but not so dark that it was depressing to read.

This is the story of Eden, who exists in a bleak dystopian society. He commits a crime willingly, knowing he will be sent to prison, where his lover is currently incarcerated- all he wants is to be reunited with Tarrant again, even if it means they are locked up together.

Tarrant is a drug runner, at the top of his ring with connections both in and outside of prison. He is a top dog- and a total asshole- and wastes no time using sweet Eden as a sexual tool to earn him favors. My heart broke for Eden as he was sold over and over to criminals, who used his body in exchange for things Tarrant wanted.

Eden is close to his breaking point when Heron Kim- the one man with more pull than Tarrant could ever imagine- returns to their cell block. Let's just say that Tarrant makes the biggest mistake of his life when he sends Eden to Kim as a "welcome gift."

DEAR GOD, where can I find me a HERON KIM.... I only knew him for a short time, but if this author ends up making a longer novel out of this story, you better believe I would read it! The way he was undeterred in his confidence- his ability to recognize immediately what was happening and protect Eden at all costs- swooonyyy.

"Why do you..." I moisten my dry throat. "Why do you care what happens to a drug runner's whore?"
Kim smooths his thumb across my cheek, across my lip. For a second, I think he might kiss me. F*ck, I wish he would.
"Because I can't bear any more beauty being stolen from this world."

Yesssss I just ate that right up. The ending was abrupt, but appropriate considering it was a short. I need more!

This fun spin on the "only one bed" trope was such a blast to read- thank you for the ARC opportunity! I highly recommend this one for something unique and fun!

3.5/5 stars (rounded up)

Look, I’ll admit that I was more than a little sceptical about the idea of anyone messing with my beloved ‘only one bed’ trope by turning it into a ‘too many beds’ trope, but these ten authors truly surprised me in all the best ways. Whether you want something dark, funny, filthy, spicy, smutty, heartwarming, or brutally bittersweet, this uniquely diverse gay romance anthology will drag you across the entire spectrum of emotions and satisfy cravings you didn’t even know you had.

Now, I am still very much a newbie when it comes to trying out all the different spices of the romance genre, so this anthology proved to be a really fun little experiment to see what tickled my fancy. The only thing I really knew for certain about my tastes before going in was that I personally prefer my romances to be very slow-burn and driven by an emotional connection rather than a physical attraction (guess that’s my ace heart speaking), so the fact that any of these short stories worked as well as they did for me was already a huge miracle if I am honest.

As expected, there were some exceptionally smutty and explicit stories that I personally bounced off of, but I actually really liked that Too Many Beds has so much to offer for so many different types of readers. We’ve got shifter porn star shenanigans, mafia madness, fated mates fantasy academia, superhero sci-fi, badass biker wet dreams, cozy competition fantasy, space adventure gangbangs, mysterious historical fantasy, emotional paranormal monster romance, and dystopian sci-fi in a prison of hell; what more could you ask for?

If I had to pick favourites, I’d say that Pillow Biting by B.L. Jones, Relentless by Adelaide Blaike, Bedchambers and Broomsticks by Amy Campbell, and The Last BedBelow the Beds by F.A. Lantern; I loved the intimately vulnerable psychological and emotional journey we went on here, and this story just pulled on my heartstrings in all the most unexpected ways.

Even with some hits and misses, Too Many Beds was an absolute delight to read, and I am already excited to dive into the backlists of some of these authors. The quality of storytelling and the level of wild imagination on display in each of these short stories is honestly beyond impressive, and I highly recommend Too Many Beds if you are looking for a diverse and excitingly unpredictable romp of an anthology full of complex and vibrant characters, immersive settings, simmering tension, hysterical banter, delicious emotional turmoil, and all the steam.

Thank you to the authors for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. Too Many Beds is a limited-run anthology that will be available on December 10th 2024 for 6 months only.

I, like many romance readers, love the one bed trope. What better way to up the tension and get your MCs together than forcing them to share a bed? But y'all, what happens when instead of one bed there are... TOO MANY BEDS?! This hilarious prompt is highlighted in this delightful anthology full of short stories that subvert the one bed trope in various creative ways.

My primary motivation for snatching up this read the moment I had the opportunity was to check out Marie Reynard's contribution, Mattress Testers Wanted. If you've been around for a minute you might know that I am OBSESSED with her books, and this short story is set in the MateHub universe with two performers from the site. I literally dropped everything to read it, and it was EVERYTHING I was hoping for. Storm and Ryder are p0rn stars acting out an absolutely ridiculous scenario the MateHub writers dreamed up (testing mattresses in multiple creative ways), and of course things escalate quickly when the guys are WAY more into each other than they should be. It's less reluctant mates than it is idi0ts to lovers, but it's still absolutely delightful.

The anthology has all kinds of different stories in a variety of genres. Relentless by Adelaide Blake, about fated mates at a magic academy, is a ton of fun, and I absolutely swooned over all the pining and sweetness in Below the Beds by F.A. Lantern, about a boy who falls in love with the monster under his bed. Lots of fun reading! And regardless, the entire anthology is worth buying just for the MateHub story - it's amazing AND it has some hints about things to come in future books! Be sure to check it out, HIGHLY recommend.

I often find anthologies a bit hit and miss, but this one was an absolute vibe and every single short story had me enraptured! They also all work perfectly as standalones (which is my biggest bugbear with anthologies - where the stories are simply teasers for future books; definitely not the case here!)

All these stories are based on the humorous ‘too many beds’ trope, a sub switch up of the ‘only one bed trope. There was paranormal, fantasy, contemporary, scifi and historical - something for fans of every genre! And these stories were HOT people, I’m talking scorching levels of heat!

I absolutely recommend picking up this anthology when it releases on 10th December 2024 - I’ll certainly be getting a physical copy!

It’s not a secret that I will inhale everything that Marie Reynard writes and this novella was no different. Set in the MateHub universe (an adult entertainment site for supernatural beings), as the title suggests, two supernaturals are doing a scene as ‘mattress testers’ and end up getting edged out for their minds by their director, all whilst desperate to just get down and dirty (and maybe form a mating bond…)

Killers like us - 5⭐️
Two men on the run from the mafia end up in a motel for the night and end up stealing keys for all the rooms to throw pursuers off their trail. But Jasper has never killed anyone before tonight and he doesn’t want to sleep alone… and Lee might be the only man who can comfort him.

Relentless - 5⭐️
Who doesn’t love a good magical school rivals-to-lovers duelling story? This one was amazing - add in magical soulmates, sexy magical vines and having to magically battle the other students to gain a place in your soulmate’s dormitory? HECK YEAH.

Pillow Biting - 3⭐️
This one was a fun tale about superheroes just trying to buy a (not) racing car themed bed when a baddie breaks in and animates all the pillows and mattresses, having them attack the civilians! Cue the super suits, because it’s Crescent and Barricade to the rescue!

Sleepwalk of shame - 4⭐️
A spicy MMMM novella about the son of a MC president and 3 tatted bikers? Whewww 🥵 Our MC has sexomnia, where he gets aroused whilst he sleeps… of course, the 3 bikers who are protecting him from an unnamed threat are more than happy to step in and help him out with his nighttime escapades (and in the daylight too!)

Bedchambers and broomsticks - 4⭐️
A royal competition to build the perfect bed for the princess’s wedding. Has the ‘so I bet you’re wondering how we ended up here?’ trope which was hilariously executed. Rivals to lovers romance between a woodworker and a furniture-building mage… but can they out their differences aside to build the perfect bed?

Vastpink fever - 4⭐️
This was an orgy in space and dang, it was hot. Fearing a transman main character, intergalactic space captain Lucas Collingwood hears a distress call from a stranded mining ship. He and his engineer go to help, but Lucas ends up getting Vastpink fever which makes the sufferer endlessly horny. Theo only way to fix it? Loads of orgasms of course 💁🏻‍♀️

Too many beds at crofton hall - 4⭐️
A historical sexy scavenger hunt at a masquerade ball at a lavish Manor House complete with hot butlers, knights tied up in silk ribbons and a Lord of the manor with varied and exciting tastes… this was an absolute riot!

Below the beds - 5⭐️
Perfect of fans of monster romance a la Lily Mayne and Nik Knight, this features a boy called Ben and his not-so-imaginary monster under the bed. When his foster father attacks him, Ben’s monster friend Luce kills the foster father… landing Ben in prison. As Ben ages, Luce follows him from bed to bed and their friendship grows. As an adult, Ben is afraid that Luce was imaginary after all… but maybe the monster under the bed was just trying to keep him safe?

The last bed - 5⭐️
Eden got himself arrested on purpose to be with his crime lord boyfriend in an intergalactic prison. But when he gets into the prison and his boyfriend starts to use him to gain favours with other inmates, Eden starts to regret his choices. However his saviour might yet be found in the form of anarchist Heron… that is if Eden can live long enough.

Thanks to the wonderful gang at Gay Romance Reviews for an eARC of this absolute banger of an anthology!

Too Many Beds is a trope-subversive anthology, applying a twist to the ‘only one bed’ trope that is common within romance. As someone who loves seeing new twists applied to tropes, I was excited to dive into this story. Add in the fact that I have previously enjoyed some of the authors with stories in this collection and I was extra eager to dive in.

Mattress Testers Wanted by Marie Reynard was a three-point-five-star rating that I rounded up. This story is linked with the author’s MateHub series, and I adored the first book and am eagerly awaiting the second. Obviously, I went into this story with high expectations. While this had the same humour that had me unable to put down the first book in the MateHub series, I do wish there had been a bit more toward the end of the story. I know the way it ended was intentional, but there were some elements I would have liked to see the outcome of. Thus, this was not quite a full four-star rating, but I decided to round up.

Killers Like Us by L Eveland was a four-star rating. This story had much lighter vibes than the dark romances I have previously enjoyed from the author, yet it had the same dark undertones. While the story was light, it was set in a dark world, and I adored watching the characters come together. I do wish there had been a bit more exploration of the wider events, but that was not enough to lessen my enjoyment of this story. I had fun with the characters and could not get enough, easily devouring the story in no time.

Relentless by Adelaide Blaike was a four-star rating. This was such a fun idea for a story, and I could not get enough of the way things unfolded. While a part of me would have liked to see this as a longer story – there were elements I wish had been explored a little more as they felt very easy – it did make for a fun read. It easily pulled me in and had me intrigued by the world, leaving me desperate to see how everything would come together.

Pillow Biting by BL Jones was a three-point-five-star rating that I rounded up. This story is linked to the author’s Liquid Onyx series, which is a series I have been curious about for a while, and I feel I would have enjoyed it more if I already had knowledge about the world. That is not to say I did not enjoy it – I did, and I am certainly going to be going and reading more in the world – but it did feel like I was thrown into the middle of a story and was missing details. Due to this, I found the story fun, but there were elements missing that stopped me from falling quite as deep for it as I had hoped. Through this, I found myself picking up on small things (such as the overuse of adverbs, which made some elements feel overwritten and repetitive in style. Nevertheless, it was a fun story. The ending was left open, and it seems this is because the characters are getting their own story, which just adds to the fact that I need to dive into this world to get more. Overall, a fun read that has me curious about the bigger world.

Sleepwalk of Shame by Ashlynn Mills was a three-star rating. This is a story that I was eager to enjoy as it has many elements that usually hook me, yet I found I was never as fully invested in it as I had hoped. I think a part of my problem with this one was that the intensity was so abstract with the story. While the characters were thrown together in an interesting way, I wanted to better understand everything. While I can see this fast action working for many, it did mean it was missing those extra details to make me truly love it in the way the prior books in the anthology hooked me.

Bedchambers and Broomsticks by Amy Campbell was a three-star rating. This was a story that had a nice message to it, but it was not quite the high fantasy adventure that I thought I would be getting. Although an interesting fantasy world, it did feel a bit too simplistic. I feel this is because only a snippet of the world was shown, but I had been expecting a little bit more. This is another story when I enjoyed it, but I can see it working better for others.

Vastpink Fever by Jem Zero was a three-point-five-star rating that I rounded down. This was a fun story that hooked me from the start, and certainly had me entertained. It packed plenty into the story, ensuring I was hooked throughout, but it felt a little soft considering what took place. With what took place, I expected things to be much more graphic, and I wanted the dynamic of the event to be explored a little more. While I did enjoy this one a lot, it was missing the extra bit of magic to have me rounding my rating up.

Too Many Beds at Crofton Hall by Rebecca Cohen was a three-star rating. I will be honest and say that I did spend a little too much time trying to work out the exact point in history when this story took place, as there were elements that had me arching an eyebrow in terms of historical accuracy. Of course, this story is not to be read for that reason, but when some elements require me to stop and do a bit too much thinking, it does have an impact upon my enjoyment. That is not to say I did not enjoy it – it was an over-the-top read that kept me entertained – but it did not wow me enough to overpower those small details that caught the wrong aspects of my attention.

Bellow the Beds by F.A. Lantern was a three-point-five-star rating that I rounded down. I had hoped to round my rating of this story up, as I adored the unique element at the start of the story. Unfortunately, for me, the way things developed toward the end of the story was too easy for me. I enjoyed it, yet there were elements I wanted to understand better. Thus, while I had fun with this story, my need for more when the characters reached adulthood had me feeling a little underwhelmed with the conclusion.

The Last Bed by Jessica A. McMinn was a three-point-five-star rating that I rounded up. I will be honest and say that I was unsure about whether I would round my rating of this story up or down. It had me hooked at the start, then it handled some aspects that I am not a fan of when they are not fully explored, yet the way things concluded had me hooked. This is certainly something I could see being a part of a much bigger world, and I loved the potential for something more that was clear within the pages. It was certainly an addictive read, and it kept me invested and feeling strong emotions throughout.

All in all, this was a wonderful anthology. For me, I often find anthologies to be a mixed bag. I enjoyed all the stories within these pages – although I did have clear favourites – and it has left me wanting to read more from the authors. For those looking for a fun twist on a beloved trope, this collection is certainly worth the read.

Overall rating: 4 stars - was a really cool concept for too many beds. Some stories fit more than others and some were amazing and some were not but can’t win them all! Overall I’m really glad I buddy read this anthology with a friend and definitely recommend! Love that I found a few new authors as well!

Mattress Testers Needed by Marie Renard
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Part of MateHub series but can be read as standalone. Fun, sexy, easy read. Great chemistry. Absolutely would read a full-length story about these two!

Killers Like Us by L Eveland
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Potentially a standalone. Lots of character names, seemed like we should have known who they were. Enjoyed the first part of the story. And freaking melted at the “too many beds” part. But unfortunately I didn’t feel any chemistry between the MCs so it was just ok for me.

Relentless by Adelaide Blaike
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is a single POV and definitely one of my favs of the anthology. Even as a short story it was totally captivating, I didn’t feel like anything was missing and I loved both MCs. The concept for too many beds was really creative in this one! Will definitely want to read more by this author!

Pillow Biting by BL Jones
DNF

Sleepwalk of Shame by Ashlynn Mills
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I loved this story. Super hot, not too much plot but still a great read. It absolutely could have used some more fleshing out and a longer story but overall I quite enjoyed it and would read more by the author for sure. Didn’t quite fit the “too many beds” theme though.

Bedchambers and Broomsticks by Amy Campbell
DNF

Vastpink Fevet by Jem Zero
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Fun, sexy, sci-fi MMMMM erotica with a trans male MC, single POV, not a romance at all. Liked the little world building we did get. Was an enjoyable story, first time reading this author. Would read again.

Too Many Beds at Crofton Hall by Rebecca Cohen
⭐️⭐️
Part of the Crofton Hall series but can be read as a standalone. I liked the concept but didn’t like how it was executed. Felt it was a bit bland and then their time together went way too quick for the build up. But if you enjoy the author still worth reading.

Below the Beds by F.A. Lantern
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is the first story I’ve read by this author but I am absolutely going to read more! I loved this short story! Didn’t feel like anything was missing. It was a cute story and actually had a lot more to it than I was expecting! Definitely recommend and can’t wait to read more by this author!

The Last Bed by Jessica A. McMinn
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So I almost didn’t even read this story because of the content warnings for sexual assault and physical and emotional abuse. I asked for spoilers from a friend and I’m glad I did because I was able to read it and I’m glad the warnings were there but it wasn’t between the MC and the love interest so it ended up being ok for me to read. This is a single POV story and it made sense that way. And I absolutely loved this short story!Definitely will read more by this author in the future!

It was okay. Marie Reynard’s was a shining star of course that convinced me read most of the rest. I don’t think I’ll read an anthology again though, short stories aren’t for me.

Here are my quick notes after reading each one!

1. Mattress Testers Wanted by Marie Reynard. Shockingly perfect - this author is so good at building chemistry and I wish I’d gotten a full book of these two

2. Killers Like Us - L Eveland. “Did he know how irresistible he looked with his slicked back hair and his perfectly styled goatee?” Nope I’m out

3. Relentless - Adelaide Blaike. Not a huge fan of public humiliation or boners that come with it. Not a fan of that much of a jerk MC. He’s never redeemed.

4. Pillow Biting - BL Jones. Pretty silly and they don’t get together on screen at all

5. Sleepwalk of Shame - Ashlynn Mills. Literally just smut

6. Bedchambers and Broomsticks - Amy Campbell. Quite fun and clever. I would definitely read more from this author. Would’ve loved a more fleshed out book from this couple.

7. Vastpink Fever - Jem Zero. Just smut. Trans smut!

8. Too Many Beds at Crofton Hall - Rebecca Cohen. Clever, good tension building, with the world’s most basic sex scene.

9. Below the Beds - F.A. Lantern. A bit loose on the theme. Would’ve been very enjoyable if more time could’ve been given to building emotions.

10. The Last Bed - Jessica M. McMinn. Not reading due to TW.

Mattress Testers Wanted by Marie Reynard
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It’s so good to be back in the Matehub universe, if only briefly!

Storm isn’t overly excited to do a scene with a Mage, as he’s not a big fan of the way magic smells, but from the moment he meets Ryder things are different. Their chemistry is instantaneous, and Storm’s wolf is very much interested.

This was short, steamy, and so much fun to read. Would definitely love to see more of Storm and Ryder because the banter and chemistry between them was fantastic!

This anthology was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the way each author interpreted the anti-only-one-bed trope, leading to a varied collection: superheroes, bikers, wizards, contemporary, “classical” fantasy, shifters. There was something for everyone, really.

My favorites were Mattress Testers Wanted by Marie Reynard (look, I adore the MateHub series, okay?), Killers Like Us by L Eveland (I would swear to you these characters are from another book I've read by this author and now I'm compelled to reread everything to find out), and Below the Beds by F.A. Lantern. I’ve definitely been inspired to seek out more work by authors I hadn’t previously been familiar with–my favorite thing about anthologies in general.

Overall this anthology was really fun! I love the concept of too many beds and how each author approached it differently. I only skipped two stories but the ones I loved I really, really loved!

Too Many Beds:
🛏️ Mattress Testers Wanted
by Marie Reynard
- I’m always excited to read anything in the MateHub world and this is no exception! The scene is two adult entertainers pretending to be straight guys showing up for a “mattress testing” gig learn that they won’t be doing any sleeping in these beds! It’s a silly premise made absolutely charming by the context and the fans’ group chat. Absolutely loved it! 5⭐️

🛏️ Killers Like Us
by L Eveland
- On the run from the mafia, Jasper and Lee hide out in a rundown motel with too many beds for two lonely men. When tomorrow isn’t guaranteed, Jasper confesses his long term crush. It was cute. 3.5-4⭐️

🛏️ Relentless
by Adelaide Blake
- Absolutely loved this! Asher shows up to mage school a semester late. Son of a farmer, he already feels like magic is a pipe dream and he maybe doesn’t belong here but then he scents his soulmate! Of course it’s only top student Xem Whitlock who really makes Asher work for his affections. Since the beds are given out by rank, the only thing for Asher to do is study his butt off to be number 2! I love a bitchy love interest and Xem is so snobby and rude I just adored him. He really wanted Asher to prove himself and the journey was super fun! 5⭐️ and I hope it gets expanded into a full book one day!

🛏️ Pillow Biting
by BL Jones
*SKIP* Humour wasn’t for me.

🛏️ Sleepwalk of Shame
by Ashlynn Mills
- Ooh! 🔥🔥🔥 On the run and hiding in a cabin with three hot bikers isn’t great for Oakley’s stress levels and when he’s stressed his condition gets worse. Sleep walking and winding up in a different bed each night isn’t such a bad thing when everyone wants each other though. Super spicy and fun! 5⭐️

🛏️ Bedchambers and Broomsticks
by Amy Campbell
- *SKIP* Wasn’t feeling it but I’ll come back later and try again.

🛏️ Vastpink Fever
by Jem Zero
- Space “sex pollen” romp! Loved Lucas being affected by rock dust and that making him so horny/bold that he propositioned most of the crew! Very spicy and fun! Also, trans rep 👌🏻 4⭐️

🛏️ Too Many Beds at Crofton Hall
by Rebecca Cohen
- If Evan wants to spend the night with Lord Crofton all he has to do if find his bed. A few clues and sexy challenges.. I wanted more but with limited time in short story format this was pretty fun. 3.5⭐️

🛏️ Below the Beds
by F.A. Lantern
- When the “monster” under your bed kills your abuser and becomes your best friend. Thanks to clever storytelling this short felt longer than it was as we follow Ben’s difficult life from 10-25ish. I absolutely loved this! I’d love to see a longer version one day with even more pining and angst 😍 5⭐️

🛏️ The Last Bed
by Jessica A. McMinn
- Sci-fi prison romance where Eden gets himself arrested to be with his lover but things aren’t exactly what he expected. Please expand this! The world building is so interesting and I would love to see more. 5⭐️

I’m always a bit sceptical of anthologies these days because I’ve read some where the quality varied greatly. When I picked this up I had only read from one of the authors before so I was pretty much going in blind. But I’m so glad I did! Although I definitely enjoyed some of the short stories more than others, there wasn’t really any bad ones in the lot. I think this anthology a great option to sample the work of many different authors, and based off the stories I read here I already know I’m going to be checking out the backlists of a few of these “new to me” authors. Plus it has a fun theme!

Mattress Testers Wanted ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love Marie Reynards stories, her name was the reason I picked up this anthology to begin with. This was no exception, another short, sweet and funny instalment in her paranormal universe!

Killers Like Us ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I’m not sure what type of stories I expected in this anthology, but this one surprised me. A dark and angsty mafia-adjacent romance about two killers on the run. I’m surprised at how much I liked it since that’s not usually my cup of tea.

Relentless ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
As soon as I read the description I knew this was going to be a hit, and I loved it! Two rival mages discover they are fates mates - that’s like catnip to me. Not only that but it turned out to be really well written! I’d never read anything by Adelaide Blake before but will definitely be checking out other works.

Pillow Biting ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ok, my number one favourite trope of all time is superhero (or supervillain) romance. And there’s just never enough of it around - so this was a welcome surprise! Oh, and the banter was off the charts, I laughed out loud so many times reading this! So B.L. Jones is another author going on my “want to read more” list.

Sleepwalk of Shame (No rating)
Soo… this one is basically PWP, so not much to comment on.

Bedchambers and Broomsticks ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is a story of two rival bed makers in a fantasy world, competing for a royal prize. An interesting premise but it felt a bit underdeveloped to me, like the author tried to fit too much in the short story.

Vastpink Fever (No rating)
Once again, this one is mostly PWP, so no comment.

Too Many Beds at Crofton Hall ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I think this was the shortest story in the collection and it was fine but understandably not much depth to it.

Below the Beds ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A sweet story about childhood friends to lovers, except one of them is “the monster under the bed”. It was surprisingly sweet despite some dark themes.

The Last Bed ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Even though it was clear from the beginning where this story was going (or rather wasn’t going) it was a harrowing read. I was so worried for Eden, but he got his HEA (or at least a very promising HFN) at the end! Can’t really say more about the plot without spoilers.

This anthology is made on what I'd call the “anti - Only One Bed” trope. I'd seen the original FB post circulated which sparked this idea so I'm excited to see what each of the author's spin on it! Thanks to GRR for the ARC, I'd write & update with reviews as I read.

Mattress Testers Wanted by Marie Reynard

Storm is a wolf Shifter, Ryder is a "Prediction" mage, & they work for the MateHub Adult entertainment. This is their 1st scene together, with many mattresses to test if they'll hold up 😉. Oh the ✨magic✨ & innuendos 🤣. The forum always gets what they want 🤭.

This was a fun, hot story. Loved the chemistry of S+R. Seems like Wolves & Mages don't get along, but these 2 sure do now 😁. No epilogue, but there's hope & future implications! This was in 3rd person, Dual POV. I'd have loved more backstories on 'em (liked the Football-Soccer banter!), but oh well. I haven't read the 1st MateHub book yet, but I gotta soon!

Killers Like Us by L Eveland

Jasper is kind & good of heart who helps patch-up mobsters. Lee is a smart, seasoned killer. They've kinda revolved around eachother (crush? 🤭), & are now on the run from the mafia for murder. In a hotel with too many beds, will they make the choice to be closer?

This was a lil dark, interesting & got sexy! I loved the tidbits on both MCs, their past impressions. The realisations & confessions are cute. This was 1st Person, Dual POV with a HFN ending & no epilogue. I want more, there's potential for an action-packed story here omg! Also L's right J, don't feel guilty 😤.

*Both above stories read on 26 Nov 2024 in like 1hr each*

A big thank you to Jessica A. McMinn for letting me read an e-ARC of this anthology, it's been such an engaging read to see how the one bed trope can be subverted!

Before I go any further, please be aware that you *will* need to check the content warnings for the stories within this anthology, as some stories could impact your mental wellbeing. Your mental health comes first, glitterbugs. ♥

Jessica A McMinn's contribution (The Last Bed) is a dark dystopian sci-fi adventure short story, featuring forced proximity, heightened emotions and a desire to achieve love in the most unexpected of places: a prison.

Having deliberately got himself captured and convicted just so he could enter the prison, eager to reunite with a past love and escape the slums, Eden never could've predicted what was to come... Or who he would end up trusting. Because I don't want to give away spoilers, I'll say nothing more specific than that - sorry, not sorry!

But what I *can* add? Is that Jessica has always known how to pack a story with emotion and intrigue, and this short story is no exception! Your heart will break for Eden, but I'm telling you now: trust the process. Jessica always delivers for her readers, even on the darkest of adventures 🩶

I am very bad because I anticipated this anthology and scrambled to read Marie Reynards "Mattress Testers Wanted" and then left it on read and didn't read the rest yet. So really this review is only for her short, not the rest of the book.

"Miserable delight. Or delightful misery"

This quote is how much I loved this and how much I wanted more. More. More. More!!!.

This was fun, hot and sexy and in a similar world and mood to MateHub: Legend, which is pretty much my favourite book ever. I loved the little references to that book and its characters.

Nothing better than two MC's that are drawn to each other like magnets but don't take themselves too seriously.

The only one bed trope is one that has never appealed to me, so I loved the idea of this anthology.
Marie Reynard - Mattress Testers Wanted - 4 stars. A new to me author who I really enjoyed. The existing world building was easy to follow, and the jokes and banter were really amusing.
L Eveland - Killers Like Us - 3.5 stars. An interesting start to a potential strong relationship.
Adelaide Blaike - Relentless - 4.5 stars. Great world building and magic system details for a short story. I'd love to read more about these characters even though the story felt very complete.
BL Jones - Pillow Biting - 3.5 stars. I really liked the bad guy attack, very original. I've read all the books by this author, which in this case makes it a bit difficult to decide if it could be read well as a standalone. It did work well for me.
Ashlynn Mills - Sleepwalk of Shame - 3.5 stars. An unexpected take on multiple occupied beds.
Amy Campbell - Bedchambers and Broomsticks -

Plenty of readers have given a little snippet of each book. I just want to say, this anthology exposed me to some new authors and gave me quite a few hours of entertaining reading. Each author came from a different theme and there is something for everyone, if you aren't too keen on one story there is still plenty of entertainment to be had. So worth reading! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Too Many Beds: Anthology is a collection of stories by these 10 authors. Adelaide Blaike, Amy Campbell, Ashlynn Mills, BL Jones, F.A. Lantern, Jem zero, Jessica A. McMinn, L Eveland,
Marie Reynard, and Rebecca Cohen. This anthology is the opposite of only one bed. What happens when there are lots of beds. All of the stories were fun and imaginative. I really enjoyed this anthology. I would definitely recommend this book.

Sit tight. This is going to be a long one.

Mattress testers wanted #1

Wow wow wow. This short book had me wanting more. The tension between these is topnotch and the loss of control Storm experienced because of Ryder has got to be the hottest thing ever. There was spice and that spice was very nice.

I definitely need a complete book with these two because goodness gracious me were they a force to be reckoned with.

The unrelated conversations had and the bold references were too good. But the scenes though... especially the last one made me dizzy.

Absolutely loved it.

Killers like us Story #2

This just keeps getting better and better. I can't even fathom how quick this ended because MY GOSH was it fire.

Lee is the type of addiction that you say you'll quit the next day but continue in double doses. Dude how intense and dark and stained with red that had me dizzy most of the time.

Jasper is such a cutie pie with his glasses and innocence and should never be given a weapon again. My baby doesn't need any more of that trauma. I loved how bold he was even when uncertain and hesitant.

Heck, I loved how these two were uncertain about each other and how they could possible work out. They are totally opposites that compliment each other. Jasper is Lee's calm to his intensity. The beckon of light that reminds Lee that he is still human and not a monster.

I thoroughly enjoyed this short part and how the author built up the anticipation until it bubbled over was truly amazing.

Relentless book #3

Absolutely Stunning!

The depth that was able to be reached within a short space of time is impressive. Instead of a short story it felt like I was already 100+ pages deep with the ending just near. From the world build to the complex yet well developed characters I had a blast.

The writing too, was amazing and easy to follow especially since there's a transition between one story and the next so you don't feel too out of your depth.

Xem is such an interestingly unpredictable person. I enjoyed how he wants to be in control of all things surrounding his life instead of succumbing to fate. He is full of surprises and is super disciplined. He is the embodiment of I want to you because I simply do.

The at first sight attraction Asher feels for Xem is cute to the point of it excusing his "creepy ways". His main goal is to have his soul mate and is willing to do things in order to make that happen. I have to commend him for his resilience and patience even if it kills him.

I just keep loving more and more couples in this anthology.

Pillow biting book #4

All I have got to say is YOU CANT END IT LIKE THAT.

Oh my goodness. The utter shock this short part left me in has me reeling.

Firstly, I never thought I'd love the whole superhero concept since I've never swerved towards such pieces of literature but I was pleasantly surprised. The banter between these two MCs was exquisite. I utterly adore them.

Secondly, the descriptions in the power play (actual superpower usage) were beautiful and vivid. I enjoyed Tim. Shame man, he is such gem.

And Lastly, I got so engrosed in their story that I wasn't ready for it to end like that. I was in deep and then the author decided, yeah, no, its over.

And by the way, I have to give props to the author for how the second MC's name was not revealed. I was busy guessing and trying to figure out which basically had my nose deep in this short story which was quite clever, in my opinion.

Sleepwalk of Shame book #5

This MMMM mafia/mc type short short was quite intriguing. This was my first time stepping foot in this type of poly relationship as I normally go for MM and that's it.

But I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed it. From the already three established MMM couple finding the missing piece to their puzzle to the last M having sleepwalking adventures, this book has it all.

One thing I like now that I'm 5 books in, is how I get a basic rundown of each character regardless of the story being short.

I loved how they called Oakley princess and basically spoil him. I mean Oakley is living the dream I must say.

Vance the biggest of them all, is so domestic and controlling and ahhh, I'm swooning. And the boldness he has? Uhmm, hello? He has no reason to be that hot.

I enjoyed Mitch's humor. Dude has a dirty mind and I'm all for that. And he is considerate, willing to cater to situations even though it may not be ideal for for him.

Ambrose is such a sap. He is literally a sucker for Oakley but was too scared to be straight up about it. Funny how it takes Oakley going down on him the first time after their friendship extinguished only to have the courage to confess. I mean, you do you, my guy.

Bedchambers and Broomsticks #6

One thing I'm most certain about is that I wish this was a full book. These tastes and teases I'm getting feels sadistic.

This short story was so wholesome. The initial one-sided hate was cute only because we knew how bad Marek wanted Arcanus and the best part is that the feeling are mutual (the wanting feeling not the hating one).

Marek is a literaly textbook carpenter, working with his hands and stuff. He basically enters a competition to make a bed for the princess and meets the temptingly striking Arcanus who is also a carpenter but infuses magic into his craft. Marek initially thinks it cheating but it really isn't.

Moving along, I enjoyed the build up leading to both of them losing control. The tension was thick in the air.

I enjoyed the subtle similarities and vast differences between these two and I absolutely loved who engrossed I get into their story only for it to end so soon (I'm not crying you are). It feels like having ice water poured onto you.

Vastpink Fever #7

This was definitely new for me. I have never in my life read about a trans person so this was quite a discovery.

This is another MMM+ short story with a touch starved MC who stumbles into a spaceship that's off its course. Add in a little the space equivalent to viagra and you have a little banging party.

Lucas is such a cutie. And his enthusiasm and genuine adoration for new discoveries is quite endearing. He is super bold though and I was left stunned because of his advances.

The others are interesting respectively and were a joy to read.

The book is solely in Lucas' POV so it had me wanting to know more of the other men: their thoughts, motives etc.

Anyway, the gang bang warning is not as bad as it seems as there is consent even though non verbal.

Too many beds at Crofton Hall #8

I'm in the mood for tea and scones while wearing a ballgown because this short book had me in a chokhold.

The whole quest that this short story swirled around was intriguing with a lot of tension between the MC and other MCs.

Evan is the illegitimate child of a prince but won't stand for people looking down on him. He is confident and knows his worth. But he also has been lusting over Jeremiah, a man 25 years his senior with multiple lovers which has him yearning to be apart of that list or even join the lovers and Jeremiah altogether.

A quest is created to test Evan and well, I had fun reading all those tension filled, jaw dropping scenes.

This is an MM+ age gap short story set in the historic era.

Below the Beds #9

I absolutely loved this short story. How the author told their version of a monster under my bed was immaculate.

How we were able to see the timeline of Luce and Ben's relationship first as strangers then friends then lovers is so beautiful.

I didn't expect it to end so quickly though. But that's what a short story is. IT'S SHORT. So yes. I am craving a full book with these two.

Ben is adopted into an abusive family and just when his foster father comes in to give him a beating for something that happened at school, Luce kills him. Then disappears.

This friendship skyrockets the next time they meet and continues growing deeper and stronger until they are all the other thinks about.

My heart went out to Ben and how unfortunate things went for him. But am glad that he was able to have something that was his and only his.

Luce is such a sweetheart with his smaller figure and considerate actions. I was able to fall for these two from the moment they met and gosh, how sad it is to have finished this short story.

The Last Bed #10

Wow... This anthology ended with a bang.

This dark, gritty, intense short story was everything and a lot more than I needed. My emotions went up and down and up and down and up and down the entire read. Who knew I'd fancy stories set in prison? Now I'm obsessed.

First of all, the betrayal and manipulation from ex-lover? Shocked. On top of the using him for ex-lover's benefit? I was so shocked and hurt and wow.

Secondly the first interaction between Kim and Eden was... no words can describe how that single interaction had me grinning like an idiot.

Thirdly, I don't think I've ever wanted to punch a character so badly than I did with O'Connor. Like what the actual hell is wrong with him? He got me so mad.

And Lastly, Kim is such a gentleman. I was swooning the entire time and *screams* what I'd do to get a fine man like him. Eden is in good hands *wipes tears away*

All in all I enjoyed every hour, every minute, ever second of this short stroy and gosh how I wish get more of Kim and Eden.

In conclusion, this anthology has a bit of everything for everyone varying from fantasy, mafia, contemporary, poly, trans, knotting, prison, grumpy/sunshine, insta-lust, childhood first love, sleepwalking, superheroes, pinning and so much more.

overall this was a fun anthology with different, colorful & very creative concepts! i'm hoping for more opposite tropes written by more authors in the future (eg. true enemies first kiss - i'd die for that!!!)🤞

my fave among these short stories was definitely the one by Marie Reynard (i might be a tad bit biased🤫🙈) but i was pleasantly surprised by some new-to-me authors! tbf none of the short stories felt like they had a proper, satisfying HEA (which i don't usually like, but with these specifically i didn't mind that too much) so ig authors later may decide to extend these stories..

【 *🛌* next to title indicates i'd be keen on reading an extended, full version (novel/novella) in the future♡ ⬇︎ 】

this was fab, so glad to be back in the MateHub universe!!😭😭🥰🤭 this short little story was so hilarious but also sweet & super hot at the same time - the usual awesomeness that's expected by Marie Reynard, she never disappoints!✨
i loved Storm & Ryder, hope we'll get to meet them in the future again (& maybe get their full story🤞)
also, Tristan keeps serving!!🧂💅✨ i love him so much lolol can't wait for his book!!!😭
[i shameless requested an arc of this anthology bc of marie reynard i'm like an addict who needs their fix her stories keep me alive i need moreeee prettiest pls on my knees begging orz]

wow i'm impressed by this magical world the author created in this short story! i really enjoyed the whole plot & the characters! tho the MCs were acting a bit childish which carried a cringy undertone for me - yet also understandable as they were young(ish) students in a magical academia. the bed ranking system for evaluating students was an interesting twist, very clever of the author!👏✨

i enjoyed the MCs bickering, i got so invested in this (especially bc pining besties is my faveee) & this superhero world seems really interesting & promising, also pillows & beds coming alive with sharp teeth were so ridiculously fun lol, but i ended up being disappointed, as there wasn't even a single kiss😭 it ends on a "happy note" but nothing really develops between the MCs, i need them to have their HEA pls!😭😭

i didn't really care for this story. it wasn't bad per se but i couldn't connect with the characters so after finishing it i was like 'eh, sure ig. thank u, next'. Creek seemed like a promising character tho, & it's always great to see some trans rep🏳️‍⚧️🩵🩷🤍

interesting concept, well executed. it left me unsatisfied as it ended abruptly with a hint of a possible future HEA. normally, that could catch my interest, if the author were to plan an extended version, but i'm just feeling meh.
i might be getting bored of all these shorts which feel like teasers, without any satisfying HEA😭
[i feel like adding that i read a book by this author before & i enjoy their writing style overall👏]

great concept (i mean, no surprise i'd like it as lily mayne is one of my fave authors lol), it could've been executed better imo but for a short story it was an okay read. loved how the human MC was the bigger & taller one instead of the monster MC. their reunion was sweet & it was giving HEA - which i appreciated much!

well this was different than the rest.. it was darkish with possibly triggering stuff for some readers. i was strangely fascinated, but i also cringed(?) idk, something just didn't fully vibe with me in this short story (which also might just be bc of my current mood..)
i'm glad the main character, Eden got a sort of happy ending tho, he deserves only the best after what he had been through!
