I really like Brian Godawa's books, having read probably 10-12 of them so far. This one is well written (though with a few errors in the text) and very interesting and informative. That's what I love about historical fiction, especially biblical historical fiction. The author wants to create an authentic view of what life was like during these ancient times, so to that end, he gets pretty graphic at times. Just be aware of that. The demonic "gods" in the stories as well as their human counterparts are beyond despicable and do absolutely disgusting things. Godawa doesn't hold back, so the sensitive reader beware! ;)

Um... I gotta say, this book is gritty! Brian Godawa does not hold back. I picked it up because it is about the time in between Old and New Testament, and I was interested to see how he would work with that. He incorporates the spiritual world (the Greek, Roman, and Egyptian gods) and boy are they a nasty bunch! He is very clear on the Romans, and their debauchery. If you get squeamish over stuff like that, might want to walk away from this one. There is s*xual content.

Incredible

Another awesome masterpiece from Brian Godawa. I can't stress how well written his books are. So much research and historical and biblical fact woven together with imaginative storytelling to create a masterful tapestry of epic proportions.

What a book!

Brian can't write a bad book! It is so incredible how close he intertwines the bible with his vision of " it could've happened like this". Truly a Wonder to read. I couldn't put the book away. I got my kindle rewards with that one. Now onto #2!

I don't have the words.

I cannot believe how much I enjoyed this book. It hit all the right notes to keep me engaged. It even inspired me to read 1 Maccabees. The story writes a compelling portrait of one of the more mysterious figures of history, who still casts a shadow today.
