Watson Falls: A Small Town with a Deadly Secret

Rate this book
Mack Peters enjoys the good life now, but it always wasn’t that way. Twelve years before tragedy struck on a lovely Sunday morning as Mack and his father, Beverly Hills Police Chief Bill Watson, finished their breakfast on the patio of a Beverly Hills restaurant. At the time Mack was a member of the LAPD. In his quest for peace of mind he resigned from the LAPD and backpacked through Europe for an extended time.

After Mack returned to the States, the former LA cop struck it rich when he came up with an ingenuous idea that gave him a lot of free time and produced millions of dollars. If asked what he does for a living, he says with a smile, “I go to my mailbox and collect checks.”

With a thriving business that practically runs itself, he has the luxury of being able to take off on trips when the spirit moves him. His friends Marcie and Kurt Conklin suggested that he visit a quaint town in Washington State called Leavenworth, and it wasn’t hard to persuade him. But they had an ulterior motive—a motive that resulted him agreeing to help one of their friends track down her missing sister. That led him to the remote small town of Watson Falls and a situation and people more deadly than he could have ever imagined.

Max left the police force after his father was murdered and went to Europe for a while. While there he found tee shirts in every city with the same saying. When he returned to the United States he obtained a patten on that saying and several others and became very successful and had plenty of time to do whatever he wanted.
His friends suggested he visit a small town in Washington and he decided that it would be a good road trip. When he gets to the town he is approached by a waitress whose sister has gone missing and asks for his help. As it turns out the waitress was friends with Mac’s friend in LA and the suggested trip was so he would help her

I received a copy of this book from the Author: Morgan St. James. Thank you very much, I'm happy to give my honest review.

This is book 1 of 3 so far, and I will definitely read the other 2.
Max was an LAPD officer, and his father a Beverly Hills Officer. His father was gunned down before his eyes, causing him to reevaluate his life and leave the force.
While doing some soul searching on a yearlong trip throughout Europe, he began to notice every place he went, sold T-shirts that said the same thing, "XYZ the best little town" or something like that. When he returned to the states, he did some digging and discovered that the phrase wasn't patented, and he patented it. Suddenly he is getting royalties from every shirt sold and is now wealthy. While enjoying his wealth and slowly recovering the loss of his father, he realizes he needs something more. When his friends suggest he go on a road trip stopping Leavenworth, WA, he figures why not. When he gets there, he soon realizes his friends set him up. They had hoped he'd go there and help out their friend whose sister is missing. He's more than happy to do that, because he's been craving that kind of action, and he's free to do it. That starts the adventure. It is not a simple, look for clues or follow leads. Greta, the missing woman is an investigative reporter, and it's possible she's been poking in dangerous territory. He sets out to find her, and more mysteries unravel. In addition to the interesting storyline, the story adds some other points of view, with it all coming to a very fast paced tense climax.
This is a good read, and I will definitely read the others in this series and by this author.

I chose to listen to this book after receiving a free audio copy from the author through Librarything. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

Mack Peters goes to Watson Falls to find a friend’s sister, Greta, who is a reporter. Greta went to look for her godson, Tony, and it turns out that she was undercover. She and Mack meet a couple of times while they both try to figure out what’s going on in Watson Falls. What they find is more shocking than they imagined.

The characters could have been more developed which would have made the story more suspenseful. There was a surprise at the end about two people who were interested in each other, but I had no clue. If they had shown interest in each other during the story, that would have made it more interesting.

The narrator was great. His timing and pace were perfect, and his voice is an enjoyable one to listen to.

I did like ending, and I would listen to Watson Falls again or read another Mack Peters book even though I think this could have been an outstanding book with some tweaking.

Morgan St. James brings us another engaging mystery with Watson Falls. The story follows Mack Peters, a former cop turned millionaire who’s enjoying a peaceful life—until a visit to Washington State pulls him into a dangerous search for a missing woman. What starts as a simple favor quickly unravels into something much darker in the quiet town of Watson Falls.

The book blends suspense with personal growth, and Mack is a likable character with a complicated past. The twists kept me guessing, and the small-town setting adds to the tension. Knowing Morgan from our book club, it’s always exciting to see her storytelling come to life. This is a solid, entertaining read for fans of mystery with heart.
