Courage Under Fire provides a road map of how to reclaim your life in the face of a life-threatening illness, with ways to cope with constant changing circumstances-from relationships with family and friends to the way you see yourself. Courage Under Fire goes well beyond the author's personal struggle as she fights for her survival when confronted with cancer. The intensely personal story leads us from the cancer diagnosis, through the sometimes painful process of treatment and through to a surprisingly successful outcome-which doesn't have to do with overcoming cancer, but overcoming fear and uncertainty through faith. Yilda Rivera provides ways in conquering our fears, accepting our flaws, and tapping into our potential. Courage Under Fire is not only an open and honest account of someone's life and journey through cancer; it is a compelling story of strength, courage and faith in the face of fear and adversity. This story will help readers discover the confidence they need to stand and prevail in the face of fear and hardship, and to discover that despite uncertainty and chaos, there are still choices we could make. Courage Under Fire is heartwarming, uplifting and yet astonishingly life-affirming. It will take you to the very edge.
This book has served of much inspiration and a lot of personal reflection. This story encourages us to seek God more, to go deeper into God’s word, to see the time with your kids like something sacred, to speak to them about God and to seek more prayer time alone and with your significant other. Courage Under Fire by Yilda Rivera is a great message of hope and will be of great help to those of us who sometimes doubt, stumble, get discouraged or wander away from the path.
I read this book at a moment of my life where I felt I had no choice but to put my faith in God. Glad I read it when I did! This inspired me and made me look at life through the lense of content and gratefulness. It’s not about the end but about the journey and the people we bring along the way.
I received this book free through a Goodreads First Reads giveaway.
The author shares her experience of being diagnosed with breast cancer. Her strong faith is to be admired as it aides her in her journey. It is heavy on use of Bible scripture and includes suggestions at the end of the novel that may aid the reader in their own personal situations.
Having a glossary was helpful as I was unfamiliar with cancer terminology. I wish there was more of a timeline displayed in the author's writing as the book progressed (it eventually is referred to at the end of the book, but not heavily mentioned where it would serve the author more). The journey from diagnosis to treatment to recovery is a long process and referring to it more would have aided more in the storytelling.
