Another amazing story by the talented Joanne Wadsworth in her Highlander Heat series! "Highlander's Charm" is book three and the fourth book I have read and 5 star reviewed, as this series is incredible and always a pleasure to read one of Ms. Wadsworth's books.
In this story it starts very mystical and magical which sucked me in like a whorl wind right away. As it was about child born under a falling star in 1569 a portal open, a fortune teller, and two displaced souls. It's also revolved around this child and her Grandmother both born under the falling star with the silver eyes as proof of their special birth. This Grandmother knew she would loose this child as she had lost her mother in child birth if she didn't move quickly. So she made this special wish as which the portal opened yet deep in the forest there is a lad of seven with no silver in his eyes felt their presence whispering the newborns name Lila as she was gone from his world. He felt she was taken so strongly it caused much emotion and grief though he did not understand why. This fortune teller had two pieces inscribed one with the name Calum and one with the name Lila as they were two souls bound to each other and would again once to set everything back as it should be. Even if both were from enemy clans.
It's starts off with Lila in present time Scotland 2014 searching for her Grandmother for near a month a no one have seen or heard of her. Lila MacIan will not give up even though some feel some evil occupancy such as murder and mayhem might have reach the poor Grandmother. Lila will never give up as that is her only family and she feel a bit out of her area being from Australia. At twenty one her Grandmother and Lila had decided to go on holiday and check out her family roots then everything goes haywire when her Grandmother turns missing. Lila and a friend decide to go snorkeling she always has her special charm on her that has the name Callum on it no matter where she is even zipped up in her wet suit.
Then as she and a friend are snorkeling in Scotland an earthquake hits and boom she is pulled out of the water and by a a braw highlander by the name of Callum MacLean. They both have the charms, visions even before they actually meet and instant chemistry and magic unknown to them. At first Lila won't even believe she is in the past in 1590 Scotland. Callim thinks this wee lass might be a bit off her rocker herself. So to say they both need a bit of convincing is to say the least. Ones they realize the magic that is between them and see each other's charms as well, but cannot share the magic with many as there are many who would have Lila burned at the stake with rumors of witchery!
Lila realizes the hate Callum and his clan have for her people so decides to keep that to herself as she knows he won't take it lightly when he does. They can't seem to be able to be with out each other yet Lila figures her grandmother must be here and wants to continue her search. Of course an in dependent 21st century woman and 16th century warrior are going to have some differences to say the least. When he does find out who she really is it's a bit of a shock and he says some awful things and she runs to her ancestral clan but she has a tendency to have problems around water and Calum is always there to rescue her. Of course they still argue she continues her search a bit on the stubborn side and then she see Callum is on peril unless she wishes herself away as if she had never been.
What is the saying I love you so much to let you go? So are they to love without each other centuries and worlds apart? Or will they some how figure a way for the clans to unite in peace and stop the warring and treachery. Does Lila every find her lost Grandmother? Will these two enemy clans ever be at peace? You will have to read this wonderful book about these two charmed individuals whom are bound to each other in this lovely, magical and enchanting story called Highlander's Charm!

Another enchanting time travel adventure from Joanne Wadsworth
She’s done it again. Joanne Wadsworth didn’t just transport her heroine, Lila MacIan, into the past. The strength of her writing ad the story took me right along with her. And I was as happy as Lila to meet Calum MacLean while there. Their love story transcended time, and overcame the warring factions common to the time.
After wishing on a 16th century charm obtained from a fortuneteller, Lila is sent back in time in search of her grandmother. Unfortunately, she lands in in water and must be rescued by Calum. While Lila searches for her grandmother, Calum must take steps to protect his clan from the Lila’s ancestors. What should be a tumbled mess ends up a delightful love story.
I would highly recommend this book, or any of the Highlander Heat series to anyone.
This is by far my favorite book of Joanne Wadsworth's Highlander Series. I just loved the bond formed before Lila and Calum even met and then when going back in time Lila had the strongest urge to be with Calum. And of course the gorgeous Highlander. Sigh. Where can I get one?
Less than one star. The dialogue was absolutely terrible, the plot so rushed, there couldn’t possibly have been a believable romance between the two main characters. And then for her to suddenly jump through time for a second to the future, only to go back again, and he for some reason loses his memory of her temporarily? None of it makes sense. Don’t read this.
The myth of a child born under a falling star having magical abilities put a neat twist on this story. Lila and Callum both have the same charm but don’t know it’s significance. Once again, time travel resulting in changing things is key to this story. I enjoyed the history and the magical twists that allowed plot details to resolve and a HEA to be realized.
Time travel, a prophecy, a fortune teller, hunky Scottish warrior and a love story that defies time. What more can you ask from a romantic read? Yes very enjoyable and entertaining read.
I wish these books would come together. They could still be stand alone novels. Also I still am having a problem with everything just accepting time travel and openly talking about it.
5+++ Stars!! Another amazing time-traveling Scottish romance from Joanne Wadsworth! I absolutely loved Highlander's Charm. I was swept away into modern day Scotland, then into the 1500's. Lila is a strong, stubborn and feisty woman who is unsure what to make of everything that life has just thrown at her and determined to find her Nanna. She clings to the last thing her Nanna gave her, a charm inscribed with her name and the name of another. Calum is your strong, rugged, sexy Highlander who is currently leading his clan in the absence of their laird. Calum was visited by a fortune teller who gifts him with a charm that is inscribed the same way that Lila's charm is. Highlander's Charm is filled with it all, time travel, love, heartache and romance. It is a sexy Highland read and you will not be disappointed! As always, Joanne puts her heart and soul into her writing and she makes you feel as if you are truly apart of her books and characters. You will not be disappointed in Highlander's Charm. Thank you, Ms Wadsworth for another amazing book!
This is a typical time travel romance, but with a twist.... The woman in question was originally from the past & returned to where she belonged......to her soul mate & family. Finding love & peace is no easy matter in the middle of feuding. Excellent story… I am going to download & read the next one ASAP!
A well told blend of history, romance, and suspense.
I love time travel stories with both historical and futuristic settings. I am especially drawn to medieval settings involving modern heros and heroines who time travel to the past. The Highlander's Charm meets all the benchmarks for a satisfying read with both the romance and the setting.
