Inheritance is the first in The Lost Bride Trilogy by #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts--a tale of tragedies, loves found and lost, and a family haunted for generations.
1806: Astrid Poole sits in her bridal clothes, overwhelmed with happiness. But before her marriage can be consummated, she is murdered, and the circle of gold torn from her finger. Her last words are a promise to Collin never to leave him...
Graphic designer Sonya MacTavish is stunned to learn that her late father had a twin he never knew about--and that her newly discovered uncle, Collin Poole, has left her almost everything he owned, including a majestic Victorian house on the Maine coast, which the will stipulates she must live in it for at least three years. Her engagement recently broken, she sets off to find out why the boys were separated at birth--and why it was all kept secret until a genealogy website brought it to light.
Trey, the young lawyer who greets her at the sprawling clifftop manor, notes Sonya's unease--and acknowledges that yes, the place is haunted...but just a little. Sure enough, Sonya finds objects moved and music playing out of nowhere. She sees a painting by her father inexplicably hanging in her deceased uncle's office, and a portrait of a woman named Astrid, whom the lawyer refers to as "the first lost bride." It's becoming clear that Sonya has inherited far more than a house. She has inherited a centuries-old curse, and a puzzle to be solved if there is any hope of breaking it...

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts continues the hauntingly spectacular Lost Bride Trilogy with book two, The Mirror.
When Sonya MacTavish inherits the huge Victorian mansion on the coast of Maine, she has no idea that the house is haunted. The footsteps she hears at night, the doors slamming, the music playing, are not figments of her imagination. In her dreams she sees glimpses of the past. In the present she finds portraits of brides. And when she has visions of an antique mirror, she is drawn to it, sensing it holds dark family secrets.
Then one night the mirror appears and Sonya glides through this looking glass, into the past--and sees a bride murdered on her wedding day, the circle of gold torn from her finger. It is a scene that will play out again and again--a centuries-old curse that must be broken--and a puzzle she must solve if there is any hope of breaking the curse.

I've been reading Nora Roberts for decades. This is the first time I've found a book almost too boring to finish. For nearly two-thirds of the book nothing happened, It was the same, page after page...Get up, feed the dog, let out the dog, have coffee, let the dog in, do some work, have lunch, let out the dog...blah, blah, blah. It read like an eight-year-old's diary, someone who doesn't have anything to write about!
The dialog, as well, was frustrating. I've long thought Nora Roberts was one of the best when it came to natural-sounding dialog. In this book, it's so often nothing but cringe-worthy. It's as if she's trying to sound cool, but can't quite pull it off. And each character speaks the same way, with ridiculously short phrases, so much so, that it was often difficult to know which character was speaking.

This is the second in the series, a vehicle to get from the start to the finish, but it should have had more substance. The entire story could have been told in a fraction of the page count. Better yet, it could have been part of the second in a two-book series.

Disappointing that there is no end. It’s really just one book cut into three release dates.

I FINALLY finished. This isn’t exactly the worst book I’ve ever read, but probably the most long drawn out story that could have been wrapped up a lot quicker. It was like reading the same thing page after page after page. Really going to think twice if I ever want to read the 3rd In the series.

I received these book from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

The Inheritance

I have always loved the authors books, but must confess I hadn’t read one in awhile, so the opportunity to ready this book was a real treat.

The story starts like many do, girl comes home unexpectedly and find fiancé in bed with someone else. Then things get interesting, she ends up leaving her job, but gets a visit from a lawyer. Then things get lawyer represents a relative she never knew about. As the title suggests, she was left an inheritance. Like all good inheritances, there are strings attached and she has to go to see what she inherited.

Now the story really starts, interesting characters, strange situations, a wicked witch and a whole collection of past and present inhabitants. I would love a Molly and Clover in my life.

The Mirror

This is the second book of a three book set. I was up till 6 am yesterday reading this book, which ends on a cliffhanger that had me scrambling looking for the third book. Horrors, it doesn’t come out till November.

The mansion that was inherited came with a whole set of characters, in which many mysterious things happen. Strange noises, things that suddenly appear, romance, lost loves, a secret that needs to be solved, and a mirror that materializes as a portal. A mystery to be solved so peace is restored and lost loves can be reunited.

It’s going to be a long time till November and I can’t wait to see how things work out.

The author has written a mystery, it’s also paranormal, romantic, suspenseful novel. There are ghosts and spirits. It was a hypnotic and compelling book for me to read. It’s ends on a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to read the next book.

Disclaimer: I received an arc of this book from the author/publisher from Netgalley. I wasn’t obligated to write a favorable review. The opinions expressed are strictly my own.

I have always enjoyed Nora Roberts work, however, these two books fall short of her normal level of writing. First of all, they should never have been made into two books. One would have been quite enough. Instead, she drew the story line out too far in order to create the pages. It became tiresome to read. Next, the editing was terrible. The love interest's name was "Trey". Several times it appeared as "tray". Conversations were run on and it was uncertain who was speaking and who was responding. Finally, the heroine is a strong, professional, competent ghost fighting woman who is referred to throughout both books as "cutie" by her boyfriend. This became one of those books I wanted to finish so I could move on to another. Decent story line but just not up to par.

Book 2 continues with Sonya MacTavish seeking to unravel the history of the family mansion. She battles with the evil witch Hester Dobbs who cursed the family for over two centuries. The witch has murdered the seven brides and stolen their wedding rings over the generations. Sonya shows defiance toward the witch and realizes that she must retrieve seven wedding rings before she can break the curse. Nora Roberts is my favorite author and have read many of her novels. I will present my take on this novel to my book club.

This second book in the trilogy is not as good as the first book. It's filled with the spectacular haunted house in Maine with spectacular generational stories of those alive and dead, loved and lost, bitter and sweet, blood, sweat, and tears, joy and laughter, and lots of pets, flowers, food, and art. Of course, the haunting is spectacular, as well. So very repetitive because it's the second book and a cliffhanger. It is absolutely what you expect from Nora Robert, but a bit boring.

This isn’t my favorite Nora Roberts trilogy. Although the third book hasn’t come out yet when I am writing this review, based on the first two books, the whole trilogy would be better compressed into one book. It all feels a bit repetitive. It’s also strange that Nora, or her ghost writers, have strayed from the formula of one complete romance per book, with an overarching theme that runs through the series. I also feel like the whole friendly relationship with ghosts is a bit over the top.

Sonya, Trey, Owen, and Cleo are very brave. Book two begins exactly where book one left off. Sonya and Cleo are not letting the evil ghost scare them out of the mansion and the fact that all of the residents support them is amazing. The audio book is quite different from just reading the book. You get all the atmospheric nuances and that makes the story even more dramatic. I’ve enjoyed this series immensely so far and discovered an author that is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

I was so excited for this book and so disappointed. I hate to say that about a Nora Robert’s book, but there it is. It was boring. Redundant. Too much chatter and too little excitement. I honestly couldn’t wait for it to end. Had to keep taking breaks and read other books in between. Cliffhanger was interesting. Just not sure how she will make an exciting full novel to end the series.

The Mirror by Nora Roberts is the second book in The Lost Bride Trilogy. I loved Inheritance which was the first. In this book, Sonya is making the mansion her home and trying to get rid of the ghost! I enjoyed Sonya and "Dobbs" the ghost. This has a good storyline but I liked the first book better even though this one was good too. (Gerard's review)

LOVED it. The second in a trilogy about a haunted house in Maine and the people who live there. A centuries old curse murders brides that are married in the house and it is up to the newest inhabitant of the house to get rid of the curse. The only thing I dislike is I have to wait an entire year to find out the ending!!!

I actually like this one better than the first one. While it's really hard to believe that any of this could happen, it is fantasy and a bit of horror, but it has romance in nicely and suddenly. There are sometimes a lot of people to follow. It was a bit more exciting and I'm looking forward to book 3 in this series.

I waited to start this one rather than read it when it was first published because I knew number three was still a year away, and so many reviews said it was just a filler so they could make it a trilogy. I didn't think so.

The book gave a lot of detail on the brides as well as the town. I liked it, and now I've only got a short wait until the conclusion.

The books are OK but this didn't need to be a trilogy. The story is being drawn out. It could've been 1 book if you remove all the descriptions of their everyday life. Work, let the pets out, let them in, cook dinner, watch a movie. Less of that and more about the ghosts, the history of the manor and the curse. Book 2 was kinda boring except for when she walked through the mirror.

Read The Inheritance, then The Mirror, now must wait for The Seven Rings to find out if Sonya & Cleo can get the rings back and get rid of that witch! Can't wait for the 3rd of this trilogy to come out in eBook, NOOK. Love the GHOSTS cleaning up, play ball with dogs, and doing other things.

I tried to push through and finish. But it’s just a lot of dialogue about meals and how to deal with the ghosts in the house. Such a boring, hard to get through book. Will not pick it up again to finish. It’s unfortunate because the premise of the story is great. I just hate the delivery.

I like the characters: Sonya, Cleo, Trey and Owen. I am having a little trouble following the seven brides that have died in the Manor. I think the story could pick up its pace a little, but I will read the third book when it comes out.

Very disappointed with the book, I was hoping to read about the elaborate stories of the lost brides, but it's more of taking the cats and dogs for a walk and feeding them. Not looking forward to book 3

The first of bride manor trilogy. Eerie and realistic as far as I know about ghosts. I love the whimsy of clover and the meticulous molly. Jack is a doll. Cleo is beautiful inside and out. Great characters. Lots of good energy to fight the one evil being. Can’t wait to read the next one.

I found it interesting pretty much along the same lines as the first book however, in both books, I’ve never seen so many words that I had to look up in the dictionary so keep your dictionary close if you plan to read these.

Note to self: when reading a trilogy, wait till all books are written before beginning! This is me sticking my toe into mysteries...and so far it's fun. Now I have to wait 11 months for book 3!
