I've read some bad books but this was one of the worst. Incomprehensible plot, unbelievable characters, confused timeline and more twists than a candy cane.
In brief don't bother.

2021 bad? Things could be worse. They could be a lot worse!
Stanley Gallon has taken his insiders eye of Washington and imagined a scenario whereby unconscionable men take any and all measures to take control of the USA and build a world empire. Extreme lengths!
Yellowstone is exploded, the Congo invaded, the Middle Easy nuked! Death tolls surpass 40 million and keeps climbing. Endless winter, labour camps, resource appropriation and control on a global scale. All civil and government norms overthrown, right wing bigots invade and execute all of Congress!
The President is on drugs, the coup progresses, Homeland Security is at war with the Army, nukes are used as artillery, starving populations on the move, liver transplants! One is reminded of how an advanced industrial nation succumbed to the Nazis and the horrors that follows.
At the eleventh hour, honourable Army Generals ensure that the Constitution is resurrected.
What fun there is to be had in some much devastation, such wickedness. Bit it could never happen right? Not even in our Darkest Days?

O totalitaria.
Lettura importante.

Darkest Days is a science fiction text that follows the path of President Nathan Greely, immediately following the worst disaster in the History of the United States. What Nathan comes upon is a country overrun with fear and panic. This chaotic social climate eventually paves the way for shortened food supplies, outrageous political policies, war, and the terrifying declaration of a full-fledged dictatorship. Yes, a dictatorship in the United States- the supposed democratic beacon that serves as an example for the rest of the world. This is a phenomenal book that simultaneously sends chills up your spine and keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire book. In this text, twists and turns lie around every corner. Although a phrase which is hackneyed and overused: "Nothing is as it seems." Aside from the thrilling nature of this book, this text is actually a serious political critique. Throughout the book, author Stan Gallon is constantly demonstrating the weaknesses of the United States governments. One blatant issue that he stresses is the omnipotent nature of the Executive Branch in the United States. To think that our current political system could pave the way for a dictatorship is terrifying. With all of this in mind, Darkest Days is a great book that I would recommend to anyone interested in political systems, dictatorships, or just science fiction texts in general.

Darkest Days is a relatively unknown book by a relatively small author it is however very much worth checking out.

It's a bit of a cross genre novel set in post terrorist disaster America, yet focused on political manoeuvring, clock and dagger spying and overseas wars running concurrently with several conspiracies by greedy politicians who want ultimate power.

Well paced with a great ending it's a book that's one a permanent place in my library.
