Sara Knightly is the author of The Everlight Series: Secrets Ever Green, Castle Ever Dark, and Forest Ever White. Her books have been selected by Barnes & Noble as a Top Indie Favorite.
Sara lives in Idaho with her husband and two daughters. When they're not exploring, Sara spends her days dreaming up the next story idea, searching for the perfect coffee shop, or planning another trip to the Redwood Forest.
This series gets more and more intriguing. Book 3 has absolutely been my favorite! I did wish we would get another book after this, not a full novel maybe just a shorter novella or like a short story collection to kinda tie all the loose ends and give more of a final story ARC for some characters. With that said it is still a good conclusion. It's VERY engaging and fast paced. Something is always happening so it's easy to read this in a whole sitting cause you will want to know what happens next.
I do really love our characters, I think that's where this series really shines. That and the world building. It would be a fantastic starter Fantasy series since it's really easy to get into the story and easy to understand.
Thank you Netgalley and Portal Publishing LLC for the copy of the audiobook! *All opinions are my own*
It feels rare to find a series that just gets better with every single installment, but Sara does that with these books. I loved each one more than the last, I loved watching the growth of these characters, I loved all the twists and turns and magic this world holds. I also loved how this beautiful trilogy accomplished so much, but still kept the books at a reasonable length. I feel like I lived the same amount of adventure and magic as I do in some other series that take 700 pages per book to explain things. But Sara's writing is just that good, she pulls you in and takes you on a journey in a way few other authors can.
If you're a fan of Emily Wilde, The Concealed, or you just believe in the magic of nature - you will want to read this series. And if you're one of those people that prefers to wait until all the books in a series have come out... then it's time to get to it! You won't regret a stroll through this world.
And Sara girl, if you ever want to take us on another adventure with Ivy - I'll be the first in line! <3
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest thoughts! And thank you to Sara, for a wonderful ride.
Forest Ever White is nothing short of breathtaking. There is a perfect balance of friendship and love, adventure and personal journeys, unanswered questions and unexpected revelations. The addition of new characters throughout brought a new depth to Ivy’s adventure which in turn brought the series on a path to a beautiful conclusion.
There are very few words that could accurately convey the feelings that Sara Knightly’s beautiful writing brings to life. She has a magical way with words that connected me to The Everlight Series in more ways than one - these three books will always have their own special place on my bookshelves among my other favourites and comfort reads.
Something I really love about Knightly’s storytelling is her ability to create the perfect balance of everything needed for a gripping story. There’s the perfect amount of bells and whistles, and I know that I can always reach for a comforting series of a magical girl who goes on a marvellous adventure and discovers wonderful things along the way.
Sara - thank you for creating such an incredible series, for reigniting my imagination and for giving me an ethereal world to escape to.
(I received an advance review copy of Forest Ever White via BookSirens, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.)
Okay… this book owned my heart from the first snow dusted page. ❄️ I went in expecting pretty prose and instead got an achy, poetic forest fairytale that swallowed me whole. It’s soft and haunting, full of grief and longing, and so beautifully written I kept rereading lines just to feel them again.
The atmosphere?? Ethereal and moody in the best way. Think candlelight flickering in a foggy forest, slow burn glances, and two lost souls colliding under a spell of silence and sorrow. 🌙🕯️
I felt everything in this book the ache, the tension, the stillness between two people who see each other. The kind of love that doesn’t scream, but settles deep in your bones.
“I think people are capable of anything to protect those they love. Or those who can’t defend themselves.”
“Forest Ever White,” by Sara Knightly
So, this book is on brand for the first two books in the series, a good YA fantasy mystery book without the major romance aspect a lot of books have recently. I thought this book was more adventurous than the first two in the series and it was nice to see what kind of fantasy was in the world since the magic aspect was so hidden in the other books. I would say there was a little more romance in this book than the first two, but it was still pretty light. 4 out of 5 stars.
This is the 3rd installment of the Everlight series and the conclusion of the adventures for Ivy and her companions. I enjoyed reading about the interactions between Ivy, Ember, Jack, Cora, York and the other individuals they meet along their travels to the White Forest. There is a budding romance continuing between Ivy and Jack that makes their interactions relatable. The magic Ivy holds is key to where the author is taking you with this story and there are a couple of surprises that affect Ivy as well in a positive way. The book focuses on the reliance of friends, their adventures into new lands and the battle against destructive force. I didn't give the book a 5 star rating because it wasn't one of those books where you can't put it down but it was a good book to read. Sometimes, I think a book resolves itself very nicely and I really enjoyed the last chapters of this story. Once I got Ivy’s mission, I stayed with the story until it finished (the epilogue was very well done as well IMO). I don’t regret purchasing the first book in the series after having a chance to read an advance reader copy of the second installment, Castle Ever Dark. You need to have read all the books in order (again, my opinion) so the story makes complete sense and for a reader to have the best reading experience with the story. Go back and enjoy Secrets Ever Green and then end the story with Forest Ever White. You won’t regret the magic within the story.

This is the third book in the Everlight series, and I chose to read it, as I read the first two books in the series prior to this, and I really liked them. In hindsight, I wish I'd revisited the previous two books before coming to this one, but I was still captivated by the author's storytelling as they brought this world and its characters to life. I felt connected to Ivy and her journey, and this third instalment was beautifully written. If you are a fantasy reader, you'll probably really like this, but I would recommend reading the previous two books as well.
Thank you to Booksirens and the author for a free copy to review.
Forest Ever White is a powerful finale to the Everlight series, filled with magic, emotion, and adventure. Ivy Rune’s journey to stop the Count is both thrilling and heartfelt, as she uncovers secrets, embraces her powers, and learns the true strength of love and friendship.
Sara Knightly’s vivid writing brings the world to life, and her characters feel real and deeply relatable. This is a satisfying and emotional end to a beloved series—perfect for fans who enjoy fantasy with heart!
I absolutely love this 5 star series. This is a series I could easily re-read and share with my niece. I do feel this is a book for all ages. Quite possibly the series could be one book, but even better would be a continuous adventure with more books. I did enjoy the narrator and already want to start the series over and I really do hope it will continue on with more adventures. Thank you NetGalley, Sara Knightly, and Portal Publishing for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.
WOW! I stayed up and finished this book in one sitting- just under 3 hours. Sleep was calling me, but the pages kept turning… what would happen next? The final installment to The Everlight Series does not disappoint. Plot twists and turns the reader never foresees. Spellbinding to the last page. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The overall series is great, but this book was my favorite. The world building is well written and fascinating. It is clear that the author’s writing is purposeful and intentional. Such a fun, lighthearted read with a sweet and complete ending to the series.
Forest Ever White is the final book in the Everlight series, and it wraps up the story perfectly. Ivy and her friends have escaped the Count’s castle, and must reach her father and get to the forest in time to stop the Count. Even though Ivy has discovered the reasons behind her father’s disappearance, there are still many secrets to be revealed. Ivy must navigate her new magic, a buried fate, friend and family relationships, and find a way to save the White Forest.
I have really enjoyed the Everlight series and Forest Ever White brings a great ending to the story. I enjoyed following the characters on their journey from the Count’s castle to the White Forest, and seeing the places they stop at along the way. Each character is dealing with their own struggles, as well as struggling with complicated friend, family, and romantic relationships.
Some new characters are introduced in the book, and I love that Knightly kept the characters in the series to a smaller scale. Fantasy books tend to bring in too many characters, and I felt like the Everlight series had just the right amount of core group characters, while bringing in a small number of side characters to support the story.
I found Airlend to be the most complex character throughout the series. She protects the forest, but the danger it is in, is because of one of her own mistakes from the past. Her relationship with Ember is strained, because of her overprotective nature to keep Ember’s magic subdued and keep her within the confines of the White Forest. She also doesn’t make things easy for the friends to work together to protect the White Forest, because of the many secrets she keeps.
If you’re looking for an enjoyable Young Adult series filled with magic, mystery, adventure, and coming of age characters, then I would highly recommend Forest Ever White.
Thank you to Portal Publishing, LLC and NetGalley for providing me with an ebook copy of Forest Ever White, in return for my honest review.
This was a fitting conclusion for Ivy's story. When we left off, our intrepid heroine was fleeing the Count's castle in order to make it to the White Forest and find her parents. Accompanying her are Jack, her maybe boyfriend, Cora, who can destroy things with magic, Ember, her friend with a mysterious connection to the Forest, and York, her childhood friend reluctantly imbued with magic. Ivy will have to contend with a whole new world (Undersong), a very rude prince, and more magic than she knows how to handle in order to complete her quest and get her happily ever after. Readers of fantasy will love the lush worldbuilding and descriptions of magic, and the ending is both heartwarming and satisfying. I would definitely recommend this book!
Sara Knightly's Forest Ever White is a mesmerizing fantasy novel that masterfully blends enchantment, peril, and profound character evolution. This tale follows Ivy Rune, a determined and resourceful heroine, whose journey out of the dark confines of the Count's castle leads her into the luminescent yet fraught expanses of the White Forest. Knightly weaves a narrative rich with magical realism and the poignant struggles of destiny, making it a standout addition to the genre.
From the outset, Ivy's character is compellingly drawn—her escape from the Count not only symbolizes her physical freedom but also the start of a deeper exploration into her own mysterious past and her father's disappearance. The quest that Ivy undertakes is laden with risks and revelations, each more gripping than the last. Knightly excels in pacing the story's revelations, maintaining suspense and intrigue throughout the narrative.
The setting of the White Forest is vividly described, serving as a character in its own right. It's a place of magic, guarded by Airlend Frost—Ember’s mother and the forest's keeper. The forest's ethereal beauty contrasts starkly with the dangers it conceals, mirroring the dualities that Ivy faces within herself and her journey. The lore of the forest and its mystical properties are intricately detailed, enriching the world Knightly has created.
The relationships between characters are another highlight of Forest Ever White. Ivy's friendship with Ember and the complex ties to Airlend Frost add depth to the story, weaving themes of trust, betrayal, and allegiance seamlessly into the action. The dynamics evolve naturally, with emotional stakes that mirror the physical perils the characters face.
Knightly's narrative shines in its exploration of fate and free will. Ivy's struggle against a destiny that seems predetermined challenges the traditional fantasy trope of the destined hero. Her decisions, fraught with moral complexities, drive the story forward and invite readers to ponder their own beliefs about fate and personal agency.
As Ivy embarks on her mission to retrieve a powerful object, the tension escalates, culminating in a series of climactic encounters that test her resolve and her loyalty to those she loves. The final revelation of Ivy's connection to the White Forest is a masterstroke of plotting, tying her personal arc to the larger fate of the world Knightly has crafted.
The prose is lyrical yet accessible, with a narrative voice that captivates from the first page to the last. The dialogue is sharp, revealing character nuances and propelling the plot without sacrificing the story’s poetic rhythm.
Forest Ever White is a five-star triumph, a novel that not only entertains but also resonates on a deeper emotional level. Sara Knightly delivers a tale that is both a thrilling adventure and a thoughtful exploration of identity and power. It is an essential read for fans of fantasy looking for stories that challenge as much as they enchant.
After finding out her father is still alive, and close by the Count's castle, Ivy knows that they have to find him before setting off to the White Forest with Ember. When they find him, he's become laun after an experimental punishment from Dr. Ply. The golden glow to his skin, and the lack of feeling and interest on his part can be explained away. Even so, it still hurts when he barely glances at Ivy, who struggles with how she feels being united with him after so long.
But they don't have time to stop moving. Ember's magic is building within her to painful levels, and they need to get back to Airlend and the White Forest. They're only welcomed to visit if they agree to take a potion that takes away their magic, and Ivy doesn't handle its loss well.
From the Count's actions in stealing laun and refusing to stop his search for Airlend and the White Forest once more, both the White Forest and the Underworld face destruction. One with a special magic is foretold to be able to set things right, but Ivy must decide what she wants most for herself, and her friends, if she's going to be able to save them.
At times I felt like things were happening a bit too fast. With each book, we've been introduced to a different world, moving from the small town of Windermere, to the Count's castle where magic exists. Here we're introduced to two new worlds/planes, the White Forest we've heard so much about, and the Underworld, a wholly new place. There wasn't enough time to explore these latest two locations as much as I would have wished.
However, the plot did move along with good speed. At times I thought things weren't going to have time to get resolved without needing another book, but the ending did come together well. I would have been happy with more time to explore, but overall was satisfied with how the series ended.
I was given an ARC through BookSirens, and I'm leaving this review voluntarily. All opinions are my own.
Forest Ever White delivers a high-stakes, emotionally rich conclusion to The Everlight Series, one that’s both satisfying and left me wanting more. With Ivy Rune at the center of this final chapter, the story pushes forward at a gripping pace, filled with dark magic, deep-rooted secrets, and the kind of character growth that stays with you.
Ivy’s arc was especially rewarding. Watching her evolve throughout the series and especially in this finale was genuinely powerful -she’s become a heroine worth rooting for. The twists and revelations come quickly, and some truly gasp-worthy moments (especially involving her family) gave the book an unputdownable energy. I couldn’t stop reading.
The world-building was clear and immersive, and the magic system maintained its intrigue while still being easy to follow. The supporting cast continues to shine, each one contributing something meaningful to Ivy’s journey and the broader conflict. While I didn’t feel anything was rushed, I did find myself wishing there were a few more pages, just to spend a bit more time with these characters and this world.
If you’re a YA fantasy reader who loves fast-paced plots, powerful magical lore, and heroines who fight for more than themselves, this is a series to check out. I’m sad to see it end, but thrilled with how it wrapped up.

This is the 3rd installment in the Everlight Series. I really enjoyed the entire series and you really need to read these in order to fully understand all that is going on.
This book discusses Ivy's journey to the White Forest and all those she and her entourage meet on the way. She learns once she gets to the White Forest that she is destined to save the White Forest but no one can really tell her how. I got the feeling they knew but it was in Ivy's best interest for her to find her own way. The Count is also following them to the White Forest being guided by laun that was left behind in the castle after Ivy and her crew fled. Ivy finds her father recovering in the White Forest and learns a secret from her past. Airlend Frost sends Ivy on a journey to retrieve The First Seed which should save the White Forest in the event it needs to be defended from an enemy, in this case, the Count. But while Ivy is on her journey she discovers Airlend left out a few details that set somethings in motion that Ivy is not prepared for. I love the ending. I love how determined Ivy is to be with Jack and for Ember to be with Prince Fresian even though it appears the Prince's world has chosen Ivy as their Princess. This is a great story for anyone loving magic and mystery.

I wondered how the author would end this series and Forest Ever White did not disappoint. Author Sara Knightly continued to add new twists and turns to this storyline keeping my interest to the very last word. Readers will get more detail on the Count’s relationship with Airlend when they finally confront each other.
This book continues with some dark moments as well as a prophecy that needs to come to pass. I enjoyed meeting new characters and discovering old ones thought to be dead. Readers will be enthralled with the descriptive scenes and characters creating a fascinating fantasy storyline.
The ending was satisfying but in my opinion I would of liked a little more excitement. I still give it 5 stars.
I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I was instantly curious and drawn into the characters and the mysteries as they unfolded!
This is a #nospiceyafantasy ,that as an almost 40 year old, was very fun, captivating and enjoyable. Every character brought forth mystery and made you want to know more about why they were they way they were and why they did what they did!
As an avid reader, I found the magic in this world to be extremely unique! It was something I had never read about before.
This is a fun 5 star series that I will definitely recommend to others!!
Thank you @saraknightlybooks for creating this gem and thank you @netgalley for the audiobook ARC of Forest Ever White!
Of course I couldn’t start on book 3, but luckily the first two are on #kindleunlimited
What I love about this series is how pure it is. @saraknightlybooks managed to create a modern-day fairy tale for all audiences and its perfection! It's a story about friendship, growing and learning about yourself, and yes, a little love as well! A true adventure and the world building is phenomenal - I can very vividly picture the forest, and I had real angst about the count. And then the magic! The magic is unique, and as far as I'm concerned, pure. The narration by @kimchurchillvoice was spectacular and created a real immersive experience. This series is a must-read for anyone needing to believe again. Believe in honour, believe in friendship, and believe in love.
Thank you to @netgalley and Portal Publishing for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
It was so nice to come back to this world. The journey this book took was a steady and enjoyable one. I do wish it had a different ending but overall it was a lovely read
Thank you to the author, publisher, and Net Galley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Forest Ever White wrapped up the Everlight series nicely. There were some twists and turns that had me wondering if there was going to be a fourth book, but Knightly tied it all together in the end. This is a great fantasy series with a hint of romance. It's nice to have a fantasy series that doesn't have any spice. The world building is breathtaking, the characters grow and develop, there's action, adventure, friendships and magic. This a great cozy YA trilogy. I will be purchasing this series for our high school library.
“Forest Ever White by Sara Knightly. I loved this story and am sad to see it end.
I devoured this story in one sitting, utterly enthralled by the continuation of Ivy and York’s journey! The story masterfully weaves together themes of friendship, trust, and the unknown, with a dash of mystery and magic that will keep you spellbound. I found myself deeply invested in Ivy's struggles, as her fears and anxieties were portrayed with remarkable realism.
If you're a fan of YA fantasy, do yourself a favor and add this series to your reading list - you won't regret it!"
I requested and received an advance readers copy from Book Sirens. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A nice conclusion that wraps up the major plot points while leaving just a little bit of mystery lingering in the air.
Ivy and crew follow Ember back to the White Forest where they must prepare themselves for a final stand against the Count. However, there are several more secrets to discover as well as some revelations of fate.
This book illustrates the power of love in many forms: friendship, romantic, and familial. Each of the characters are willing to sacrifice for someone they love even when the odds seem against them.
Audiobook: I enjoyed book three as much as the first two books in the series. My imagination was captured from the opening paragraphs until the end of the story. I journeyed with Ivy as she began her quest. I was entertained by all the unfolding secrets and the twists in the plot. I thought the end was magical. I enjoyed Kim Churchill's narration, and I felt that her performance added to my enjoyment of the story. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.
This book is not your typical fantasy, magic wielding book. It’s an escape to a different world, a world where so many conflicts are deep rooted. This series has been a surprising delight. The author really did a great job at making you see it from the main characters eyes. The world building was done from the POV’s perspective and really cemented that connection to the character. Excellent series, if there are more i will gladly continue. If not i think the author could branch out and create more substories from this series.
I am notorious for jumping into a series at the wrong book - & this is no exception. Honestly, I can’t even remember if this one was listed as the last book of the series or not when I signed up for it on NetGalley. But I enjoyed it! I’ll definitely go back & read the first of the series. I can’t speak to the series as a whole, but this particular installment was a great coming of age fantasy. Ivy & Jack lead the main adventure into a parallel world of magic to save their own.
Tropes include: Found Family YA slow burn Family secrets Secret Prophesy Magical Quest Forbidden love
I definitely enjoyed this series listening to it rather than reading. It felt that you were actually in the story more and I feel the voice cast did a very good job!
It is the perfect conclusion to the series and I actually preferred this book over the rest, which is actually quite rare. I loved the character development throughout the series. There is a perfect balance of plot, world building and character development.
It’s such a sweet and lighthearted story and I think it would be the perfect fantasy series to start off with, especially if your new to the genre or getting into reading.
