Jason Aaron grew up in a small town in Alabama. His cousin, Gustav Hasford, who wrote the semi-autobiographical novel The Short-Timers, on which the feature film Full Metal Jacket was based, was a large influence on Aaron. Aaron decided he wanted to write comics as a child, and though his father was skeptical when Aaron informed him of this aspiration, his mother took Aaron to drug stores, where he would purchase books from spinner racks, some of which he still owns today.

Aaron's career in comics began in 2001 when he won a Marvel Comics talent search contest with an eight-page Wolverine back-up story script. The story, which was published in Wolverine #175 (June 2002), gave him the opportunity to pitch subsequent ideas to editors.

In 2006, Aaron made a blind submission to DC/Vertigo, who published his first major work, the Vietnam War story The Other Side which was nominated for an Eisner Award for Best Miniseries, and which Aaron regards as the "second time" he broke into the industry.

Following this, Vertigo asked him to pitch other ideas, which led to the series Scalped, a creator-owned series set on the fictional Prairie Rose Indian Reservation and published by DC/Vertigo.

In 2007, Aaron wrote Ripclaw: Pilot Season for Top Cow Productions. Later that year, Marvel editor Axel Alonso, who was impressed by The Other Side and Scalped, hired Aaron to write issues of Wolverine, Black Panther and eventually, an extended run on Ghost Rider that began in April 2008. His continued work on Black Panther also included a tie-in to the company-wide crossover storyline along with a "Secret Invasion" with David Lapham in 2009.

In January 2008, he signed an exclusive contract with Marvel, though it would not affect his work on Scalped. Later that July, he wrote the Penguin issue of The Joker's Asylum.

After a 4-issue stint on Wolverine in 2007, Aaron returned to the character with the ongoing series Wolverine: Weapon X, launched to coincide with the feature film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Aaron commented, "With Wolverine: Weapon X we'll be trying to mix things up like that from arc to arc, so the first arc is a typical sort of black ops story but the second arc will jump right into the middle of a completely different genre," In 2010, the series was relaunched once again as simply Wolverine. He followed this with his current run on Thor: God of Thunder.

Still not love-loving it.

description

Lois is a soldier who ends up cuffed to Kal-El when she tries to arrest him.
He's not Clark because there are no Kents so far other than a panel showing a burned-out farmhouse in the last issue.
And there's an unfunny joke that goes on too long as Kal refers to being "chuffed" to Lois and his AI suit keeps correcting him. Also, the suit is made out of something like nanobots that allow it to turn into dust and seal wounds, along with picking locks and swirling around to do various heroic things.

description

Lois gets an up close and personal look at Kal being heroic and selfless, soft-spoken and commanding, and just basically perfect in every way. This propels her to forgo the Brainiac AI (that acts like AI and gets everything slightly wrong) that usually helps her write her reports, and write her own report on "the incident" with the Super Man.
Ooooh. She likes it.
Who knew? <--kinda cute.

I don't hate it, but I'm still kind of waffling on whether or not this is a cool take on Superman.

Whatever that cape/sentient spaceship/armor is I only got three words to describe it, dope as hell. This is not only creatively one of the coolest but honestly potentially one of the most OP and stoniest unique editions to given to our big blue in a long time and mixed with his glowing arms and John wick hair mixed with literally the most bad*ss and get it done Lois lanes as well I mean this is just stacked on stacked for entertainment and to top it all off to get that’s peacemaker solider while I’m simultaneously watching the show is just sick and fun in its own right. 4.25/5

Wonder Woman and Superman both improved their first issue by focusing on the characters. Lois and Superman get cuffed together and Superman shows just who he is in his heart as Lois keeps trying to take him down yet he fights for the people of this planet. I love that Aaron get's superman down to a tee here and less focus on a corporation and more character focus helps this tremendously.

Absolute Superman #2 builds beautifully on the series’ strong start—Clark’s humanity is front and center as his powers start to take shape, and the Krypton backstory adds real depth and intrigue. One of the standout elements is Lois in a new role within the police force—it’s a bold, refreshing take that adds spark and dimension to the story. Jason Aaron is delivering a thoughtful, exciting reimagining that’s both grounded and epic. This series is really starting to soar.

in some ways, superman is very much still a boy, one who hasn't yet fully deciphered who he is. in other ways, he is every bit a man. with an ethos that seems unshakable.

The characters in this story shine through. Superman is a hero who wants to save everyone, but also just enjoys playing with his dog. Lois is hot headed and take no prisoners, but even she can bend. The action was good, the writing and art were great, but the core of the story was when Superman saved Lois from her own people even though she was shooting him in the head.

Of the three inaugural titles of the Absolute Universe, the first two issues of Absolute Superman represent the best artwork so far, and the worst writing. Insipid, sophmoric narrative exposition sours any sense of excitement or mystery established in the first issue. Likewise, the dialogue is often silly, sometimes atrocious. I think this would be as good as Absolute Batman & Wonder Woman if Jason Aaron was the story's plotter, but someone else had scripted the issues.

This issue is much better than the first. It narrows the field down to Kal and Lois and allows us to get to know these versions of them through both narrative and art. Like in Wonder Woman, they are still themselves at the core despite everything else being drastically different. (And that highlights another issue in Absolute Batman:
Bruce doesn't have this recognizable core piece of himself.)

I hate Peacemaker almost as much as I hate Amanda Waller, and that detracts from this story. The ending certainly doesn't help. We'll see where it goes, but it feels excessive.

I'm really digging his suit. I can envision Mr. Terrific using nanobots to do something similar for Supes in the main continuity. That would be cool.

What is so sad about this comic run is that you’re actively watching as Kal-El’s world falls apart due to the selfish idea that you can equip science and invention at the detriment of others. Even now, he is floundering because Earth is not his home in the way that it was Clark Kent’s home— and that’s an important distinction because this Superman is not Clark Kent.

Like Agent Lane observed, he is lost.

Like the first one like seeing more of this world and history of Superman. New Lois Lane as agent was also interesting to see with her still writing at the end of it.

Such a great development for Kal and Lois meeting and finding out who they are in this world. From the last issue Lois has now handcuffed herself to Kal with a high tech cuff that continually regrows itself as, an already weakened, Kal tries to rip
It off. And to make matters worse Lois keeps blasting him in the face with a taser gun and they are starting to be surrounded by armed Lazarus guards and heli-tanks!! But this leads the way for greatly showing off Kal’s suit and the Sol AI that controls it. As it is able to shift into an awesome fiery mess to disable the cuffs, while shifting his suit around to form a cape of red dust that can be used to block bullets and even pick up Lois so she isn’t ripped apart when Superman flies away.

But even peacemakers attacking Superman with Lois still attached isn’t enough to make her quit her mission. Supermans arguing with her actually leads to him slipping information about h being from an alien world, which Sol doesn’t seem happy about. But what does finally seem to convince her of Superman’s intent is everything else he does. They go from arguing about how precious the world is, to Superman saving civilians and keeping Lois safe within his cape, while the world burns around them.

This interaction left such a lasting impression on Lane, that when she returned to base to debrief to the brainiac system she grew pretty pissed when it twisted her words to recommend a high danger scale and termination being recommended, as she doesn’t believe any of that is required for Superman, and he is truly here to help. Which leads to this world’s version of Lois, known to hate writing reports, sitting down and putting all of her thoughts about Superman into her own words. I’m so excited to see what next issue has in store to show us for krypton, as we got a slight tease in this issue. It seems that all the signs of krypton dying were apparent, but Kal’s parents fear no one is going to listen to people from the lower classes trying to warn them. So at the moment they are foraging sunstone and planning ahead to build ships to save the people they love. But this issue also ends on a pretty terrifying note, as Lois was not the only one to be impacted by Superman. Meet John Smith…peacemaker. He saw the power that Superman had and how powerless they were to deal with it. Then he looks at the innocent civilians that he believes are protecting them and grows with distain…as he tries to teach them a lesson about peace and its price by shooting them all….

While I do enjoy the art style... it's still wrong in a way I can't describe.
This Louis is... kinda off. Soldier for hire, working for the wring guys and that "oh! I like writing" was bad.
IF Absolute Batman totally work around the bat mythos and re-start it all again, this...
They do some nods to the other universe. Not in a good way.
Clark... I mean Kal-el is different.
He's a teenage angster. Such guilt, such edgy.
Like the concept: new scentient uniform, not all powerfull, not fully controlled powers...
But it feels like the Flashpoint Sup on a new adventure.
So... probably will read a few more, see if it gets better.
Otherwise, probably drop.
Also, stop trying to make it work in Brazil.
It's shamefull how you represent it.

The series is a spectacle!! I’m not sure if it was intentional or if I’m reading too much into it, but I picked up on some very subtle cues hinting back to the ‘78 Donner movie.

There are definitely some parallels between Lois and Superman meeting in this book and when they meet in the movie from a first flight to a first interview. The more the more I learn about this universe is krypton the more I love it.

These dystopian versions of earth and krypton are fascinating and oh so politically relevant.

The art is also wonderful! I especially love how his “cape” is made to look!

I can’t wait for the next issue!!

I know the ‘Absolute’ series is meant to be elseworld interpretations of the main heroes we love…but this is NOTHING like Superman.

The only thing this has going for it is the unknown past for Superman. Clearly he must have lived with or been with his parent prior to them dying. In normal iterations, he looks to find his parent’s traditions and values throughout his younger years. This series, he is already fighting against abusive corporations and harmful social constructs. Something we saw his parents doing in the first issue.

Besides that, this is nothing like Superman at all. Just a different character they gave the name Superman.

Now this is what I’m talking about! I was iffy about issue one but this issue brings it home as Clark finds himself dealing with this universe’s Lois lane and trying to save innocents from the Peacemakers. I loved the back and forth here and the inclusion of Sol into the mix.

There’s glimpses of the Superman we’re familiar with, the principles, the change in his demeanor when he locks in, but there’s also a moodiness and distrust of authority that I’m interested to see play out, especially when people start looking up to this version of Clark.

this take on superman is SO GOOD

very excited to see further exploration of clark actually growing up on krypton before arriving to earth and deeper world building of the planet itself. also so curious about his suit and “Sol” and all this kryptonian tech giving a new spin on his abilities

also love this take on a younger clark and lois, their contrasting positions, similar ideals, and dynamic

5/5 stars, i loooooove

Something about this is is hitting me in an impressively visceral way. The combination of the art and this re-imagination of how Lois ends up (literally) bound to Superman is just really striking. I do think it's mostly the images that are impressing me (with the two dramatically tethered to each other in fiery, fantastical fashion), as the story only moved forward or escalated so much.

I quite enjoy Superman's speech about the uniqueness of Lois's planet. It's very... erm... Superman.

I found this issue to be fairly interesting. Some space to think and reflect on the authoritarian background and the parallels of Kal-El as a child but also an adult. The same manifestation of illness from those in power only allowing those who wield to keep it at the expense of those not in the circle. I find the dialogue between Louis and Kal to be somewhat funny even if not intentionally. It’s direct and assertive but in an endearing manner.
