HELL TO PAY

Twenty thousand years ago the aliens chased us from the planet Haven, where humans originated. Hidden on Earth, we were forced to start all over, beginning as cave dwellers. And we forgot about the aliens. But they never forgot about us, and what we had stolen from them.

And now they have found us again. In the year 2071, after decades of sporadic attacks, they finally defeat us. Everyone is gone. Killed in mysterious fashion. Only three youngsters survive, and watch their world reduced to rubble. At age ten, they can do little. Of course, they don't stay kids, and four years later they rise up and make a bold play to reverse what the enemy has done. It will come at a price, however. And it will reveal truths that the team leader, Dazette, has a difficult time facing.

If you like post-apocalyptic novels, with ongoing alien battles in the desert of Nevada, you will find it all in HELL TO PAY, the first book in THE DAZETTE TRILOGY. A new adult tale told with humor, bloodshed, emotion, coming-of-age, along with sacrifice and tough choices, all held together by a friendship that is the strongest bond created.

Hello readers,

I'm Don Vodka, author of science fiction, horror, thrillers, and the occasional story that refuses to fit neatly into any category.

Over the years I've written about alien invasions, monsters, heroes, villains, impossible choices, and people trying to find their place in a world that rarely makes sense. Some of my stories are dark. Some are funny. A few are both at the same time. Whatever the genre, I'm always chasing the same thing: characters readers will remember long after they close the book.

One of my favorite projects is the BAT series. BAT began as a horror novel but quickly became something much harder to define. The books follow the life and adventures of a very unusual young woman named Bat. Depending on the day, she may seem like a monster, a mystery, a fairy tale, a tragedy, a comedy, or simply a lonely girl trying to find her place in the world.

The BAT novels can be enjoyed individually, but they are all part of Bat's larger story.
When I'm not writing, I'm usually thinking about writing, talking about writing, watching movies that inspire writing, or convincing myself that I should probably be writing instead of doing whatever I'm currently doing.

I never seem to run out of story ideas, which is fortunate because readers keep asking what comes next.

A friend once suggested that Bat might be a cryptid. I had to Google the word.
