Art's Garage: Love at Racing Speed!

Rate this book
Tony Sebrino is a struggling Southern California racecar driver when he meets pretty Susan Lane. This story begins in the 1960s and is primarily about how Tony and Susan steer their way through the era's limiting social climate. There are glorious victories and tragic losses. Whether the pair can live through all of that is open to question.

DeeDee Baker is Susan's staunch friend and is the victim of a gruesome crime. How the two women help each other get through some of life's harsh realities is what friendship is all about. Susan learns to carry a large wrench in her purse in order to ward off the rude behavior of men. DeeDee turns inward to protect herself emotionally.

Through the lens offered in Art's Garage, author Lee Elder looks back on life during the 1960s, '70s and '80s. In this tale, automobile racing matures as a sport and American society matures with it. There are casualties along the way. How the survivors make sense of it all is the guts of this book.

A love story that had high speeds, dangerous curves and a checked flag finish. All kidding aside, it was a nice romance novel that any car race fan would enjoy.
