Dragon Bonds #4

Surge of Storms

Rate this book
A strange thing happens when you think you’ve lost the person you love…

Granger falling from the sky, and me not being able to save him, was one of the worst feelings in the world. But all that changes when I meet the storm dragon at last.

Now, my harem is complete.

Life could be perfect, if not for the pack of dangerous dragons who still want me for their own.

In this new world, I could be a queen or a prisoner. But I’ll be damned if I don’t end up as the alpha dragon female to rule over them all.

SURGE OF STORMS is the fourth and final book in a very steamy paranormal reverse harem romance. This book has so much yummy goodness, but I don’t want to spoil it.

As I am catching up on my reviews, I thought that it would be for the best if I leave a review for the entire series.
I really liked the premise, science majors all hand picked to participate in one of a kind summer programme with well renowned professors and field researchers, hoping to impress and eventually land their dream job. The discovery of dragons and having the different types as well their designations - alphas and betas was interesting for sure though a bit more information on the matter would have been appreciated. It just felt like there was quite a bit of history there, but for some reason there was no further elaboration on it, which really was a shame. I think it could have given the story more depth.

Despite the promising start things started to go downhill a bit for me as there was a too much focus on the intimate scenes and a tad less on the plot. I got a bit irritated with two of the MMCs, but eventually they did come to terms with the situation. My real struggle was the FMC as she did start as this independent young woman, who had such a drive for field work and then as a dragon she just basically submitted to her natural urges. Despite the fated mates trope and that she has been reincarnated numerous times to reunite with her chosen partners, the relationships felt unrealistic to me.

The first book was definitely the strongest and by the middle of the second one, I did consider whether I should continue, but as the books are rather short, I did want to see what happens after all. Glad I finished the series though.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

The ending of book 3 was heartbreaking and that continued into the beginning of this final book. I loved Granger from the very first book. His quiet and compassionate nature was the perfect balance to the other guys. It was great to see his character grow more to fit in to the dynamic of the others. I genuinely wanted to hug him because he had so many anxieties about himself and where he stood with Sam. It was endearing to read. This was a cracking ending to a brilliant series.

The fourth and final book of the Dragon Bonds series is finally here and LCA did not disappoint!if you love paranormal RH dragon shifting romances then this is a series you definitely need to take a dive in! Picking up right were the third one left us dangling on a cliff I'm happy to report Lacey delivered everything we could ever want and need and Sam and Granger are finally together--along with all her other oh so delicious mates. Filled with all the stuff Lacey is known for this final story gave us the conclusion we so desperately needed and of course all the angst, drama and hear to make it an amazing journey. I can't wait to see what she brings us next!

Okay ending

I dunno. The story and plot was good but I feel it fell flat and unbelievable. There was missing elements to the story that would have made it flow more natural, more believable. It kinda felt rushed. I did finish the series. I’m glad I did. I had a suspicion that Dahlia would be one too. Although, the dragon tracker thing didn’t work on her so who knows if that dragon tracker thing actually works.

Surge of Storms by Lacey Carter Andersen is the fourth in the Dragon Bonds Series. I didn't realize this was the last in this series - but what a great finale. Sam is such a strong, smart FMC. The group finds their final mate. Such a great series. I've enjoyed this series and group of characters.

Surge of Storms

Samantha finally has all her dragons with her. Will they be enough to keep the others away? This is the perfect ending for them. Loved it

One sentence: I need Zane and Granger in my life! And how cute was Aydan in embracing Granger? Before the end of the last book, I figured that Granger would be the final dragon. As a fellow geek, I love that he was the alpha.
A great conclusion to a great series. I can't wait to see what this author releases next.
I highly recommend.

Oh God, this book was freaking amazing! I cannot get enough of these characters. I’m so sad to see the series be over but it is probably my favorite LCA series so far. I absolutely adore every single MMC all for different reasons. I would not be sad to see a story about the best friend… I was so happy to see this HEA. This entire series had me sitting at the edge of my seat and I lost sleep on every single book, but I am not mad about it. I cannot wait to see what the author comes up with next because everything that I have read from her so far instantly becomes a favorite of mine… But I think it’s gonna be a while before I see another set of MMC’s that stole my heart as quickly as Granger and the guys did.

I honestly think I hated this series but I couldn’t stop reading it. Here are a list of my pros and cons.

Pros:
- why choose
- dragon shifters
- smut
- easy to read?
- ‘fierce’ female (see cons for more)

Cons:
- her boyfriends hated each other at first
- the editing was horrible but improved with each book
- subpar plot
- ‘fierce’ female in which she says she’s independent and does what she wants, but in fact, does not
- smut that felt unrealistic and rushed
- unoriginal and predictable
- did I mention awful plot? (She’s a female dragon, the only one. Oh no, more male dragons wake up and want to tear her wings off, thank god she’s got 4 alpha dragons. You heard me, alpha dragons. They protect her from some bad dragons blah blah blah you get it)
- what happened to that training program? wtf is happening. What are the earthquakes about
- one of her dragons hibernates every time she dies and awaits until she’s reincarnated to wake up again??? Just rushed through that explanation

So you see, I was in the mood for literal trash, and this delivered. Given two starts instead of one because I actually finished it. I wasted brain space on it but oh well, it was only 200 ish pages per book.

This series was okay. It wasn't the most exciting but it was fun. The books were very simple, short, easy to read. The plot was basic and the characters meh (except maybe Granger). But dragons!

The things that really bothered me were the inconsistencies and the fact that everything was very predictable. For characters that were supposed to be scientists and science majors they weren't very smart when things were right in front of them.

Obvious things that were obvious, were not apparently.

I felt like I was playing Dora the Explorer here. "Do you see the Storm Dragon?" "Yes!" "No, that's not right."

I wished these characters were more proactive instead of sitting around banging all the time. If you were in danger you would try everything to keep yourself and others you love safe. I get that sex was a big part in that, but the fact it took them so long to figure out, "Hey, maybe we should train our dragons more so we could understand and learn how to be a dragon just in case something were to happen." Wow! Would've been smart from the beginning instead of waiting for someone to mention it half way in the series.

Another thing that bothered me (probably the most) was Granger and his character. In the beginning I felt like his character was just there, almost like the comic relief. I felt as if the authour didn't know what to do with him but have him be there. But of course, halfway through the series he suddenly became important.

The unimportant character suddenly had purpose!

But because of that purpose his character changed completely. He wasn't the comic relief that was just there but suddenly one of the main guys with no preamble, no chapter POC until this book (book 4). I hated that his character seemed to had made a 180 change. I felt it in the story and his fears of being the odd man out were valid because that was what it was made to seem until the last book where he suddenly mattered to everyone. Granger deserved way better from the beginning instead of the main focus being on two men bickering and fighting and for Granger to only be a shoulder Sam to cry on.

I felt the whole some dragons being awake vs sleeping was weird when it came to finding mates. I get that for awake dragons they don't know that they are dragons and that they've lived many past lives. But for sleeping dragons having to look for their mate and finding them in different people over countless lifetimes is strange. How could you find someone, claim them to be your mate and that you've had lifetimes together and had kids and everything? Is it just me or am I the problem? Just because you might've have many lives together doesn't me this lifetime will be the same. Sam is her own person with different expectations and dreams, she knows nothing of her past. How could you love a new person every time?

And can someone please keep the fragile humans away from the big scary dragons???

If you’ve been waiting for the perfect series finale that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat, Surge of Storm is the book you’ve been dying for. Seriously—if you haven’t started this series yet, what are you waiting for? And if you’ve been following along, brace yourself, because this is a conclusion you won’t forget.

Granger’s transformation in this book is everything. He’s not just another member of Sam’s harem—he’s one of the strongest dragons, and watching him become her rock is nothing short of epic. The connection between them? Mind-blowing. Granger gets Sam like no one else, and it’s that chemistry that makes him stand out from the rest. He’s the glue that holds everything together—without him, the harem just wouldn’t work.

But don’t think the other guys fall short. Each one of them brings something to Sam’s life that she desperately needs—whether it’s strength, humor, or the deep bond they share. Together, they’re fighting an all-out battle against dragons hell-bent on ruling through tyranny and taking Sam away. The stakes couldn’t be higher, and the action? It’s pulse-pounding, heart-racing, and will leave you gasping for air.

What really makes Surge of Storm a must-read is how it ties everything together. This isn’t just a satisfying ending—it’s a revelation. The dragons get the kind of hope they thought was lost forever. It’s emotional, it’s powerful, and it gives you that sense of finality you crave, while still leaving you breathless for more. The way everything wraps up is nothing short of genius—Sam’s journey is one you’ll want to experience from beginning to end.

If you’re a fan of high stakes, fiery romance, and a cast of characters who feel like they’re right there with you, then Surge of Storm is your next read. This is the kind of book that grabs you from page one and doesn’t let go. The twists, the turns, the battles—you won’t see half of them coming, and the payoff? Completely worth it.

As always, my book reviews are totally voluntary. No monetary compensation was received in the opinions that I’ve expressed completely my own.

The final book in the Dragon Bonds series is here, and I’m feeling all the emotions! Surge of Storms brings everything together in a way that feels both satisfying and bittersweet—I didn’t want to say goodbye to these characters, but LCA delivered an ending that was well worth the wait.

After the shocking cliffhanger in Surge of Ice, I was dying to know what happened to Granger. And wow—his journey in this book was everything. He’s always been one of my favorites, but this book cemented it. Watching him step into his power while still holding onto the parts of himself that made him so unique? Absolute perfection. His insecurities, his growth, and the way Sam and the guys supported him had me completely hooked. And of course, Zane remains a scene-stealer with his puppy-like enthusiasm and complete disregard for outdated ideas of masculinity. Every moment with him was gold.

Aydan and Evander took a bit of a step back in this one, which honestly worked. Their rivalry has settled into a solid camaraderie, and the dynamic between all the guys has never felt stronger. Sam has also fully embraced her role—not just as their mate, but as a force to be reckoned with. Seeing her confidence grow throughout the series has been such a highlight.

The action, the romance, the humor—it all came together beautifully. The stakes were high, the battles intense, and the final resolution left me feeling completely satisfied. I especially loved the glimpses of what’s to come, leaving just enough open-ended possibilities for a potential spin-off (fingers crossed!).

LCA has truly outdone herself with this series, blending spice, action, and heart in a way that kept me hooked from book one to the very end. If you love dragon shifters, unique harem dynamics, and a storyline that delivers all the feels, this series is an absolute must-read!

*internal screaming and ugly crying.* I never knew how much a needed an epilogue of a year or 2 later, til I tried to turn the page and had run out of pages. I don’t want it to end. I loved this world and series so much. And this final book had me completely engulfed from the start. My heart broke for Sam so many times because of what the bad dragons were doing to her and to get to her.
The men all have my heart but Granger is my be all, end all. He’s so sweet and supportive throughout the entire series and that never once changes or wavers. He and Ayden are so protective of her from the gate, and also have that background to know her so well, and not need words to see that somethings wrong or comfort her.
I feel like we saw less of Evander in this book, which actually seemed like a good thing, not because I didn’t like him, or he was a terrible character, but because it definitely made it seem like he had major growth and acceptance of the things he initially was acting like a spoiled child about. Both he and Ayden showed major growth in that area.
Zane is definitely showing how adorable and pure he is. He has this child like wonder for almost everything. You can’t help but let him grow on you, and adore him.

Now this next segment is for the author; I love you, I love your books SO much. Easily top 3 author. But The ending. Ma’am. Ma’am! I need more. I need to know one thing. I have questions that require more than just my imagination and need a confirmation of Zane’s speculation. You have epilogues more often than not. Why couldn’t this be one. I’m so invested in this series and world. This can’t be the end. You’ve put an arrow through my heart.

Ok

This last book was probably the best in the series. I haven't really enjoyed the series, but this book at least was more tolerable. While, I guess, we get a happily ever after, it still sucks to know that nothing is actually changed for their future reincarnations. I also still have huge issues with the fact that Sam is forced to get pregnant in order to be left alone by other male dragons. That's a horrible existence, especially since she goes through it every reincarnation. I didn't find this story to be romantic. I loved Granger and Zane because they were genuinely sweet. The other guys left a lot to be desired, unless you're into men who boss you around and are possessive to a fault.
The whole plot was just to complete the harem and get Sam pregnant so other males didn't steal her. How is that romantic? Sam literally had no control over her life. It was to choose the alphas or risk getting kidnapped and raped by the betas.
One question I had was, why couldn't the humans use guns to shoot the bad dragons? The bad ones fly around destroying everything and killing people, but humans don't try to take them out? Sure, I think the humans tried once and it didn't go well. But why didn't they try something different? I thought it was just weird.
I really didn't like this series. I know that I'm one of the few people who didn't give this series 4-5 stars, but I genuinely don't understand what people thought was so great about the woman not having a say in her life. I guess to each their own. I can't recommend the series, but suit yourself because I seem to be alone in my opinion.

I am so happy -a certain character- finally came into their own and got a POV! 👏 🙌
I've been waiting for it since Book 1 and I'm thrilled it finally happened! The scenes with this character were so sweet and perfect 👌
That being said, this one didn't speak to me as much as the rest of the series, so it didn't get the full 5 star (just 4). 🌟 There's a trope that happens in the last chapter/ epilogue that I'm not a fan of, so that spoiled the ending for me a bit.

Lacey as always has some great quotes on misogyny and the lives of women, such as:

"𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯’𝘵 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘮𝘦𝘯 𝘐’𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺’𝘳𝘦… 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘬, 𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘯, 𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘢𝘯𝘨, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺’𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦. 𝘐𝘵’𝘴 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨." and

This was such a satisfying ending to the Dragon Bonds series! I absolutely loved it from start to finish. I believe the best thing about this series, is how unique some of these harem members are. We might have started off with the typical young, handsome and ripped guys but the addition of Zane and Granger are absolutely everything! I need more of these type of characters in the future: a shy and uncertain man who doesn't believe he's handsome enough for the woman he loves. And a man who embraces some characteristics that make him more feminine, without feeling the need to be put inside of a box. I even enjoyed his reference to how men who are certain of their masculinity shouldn't be bothered with touching other men in any way. It makes this a true reverse harem, but with a touch.

So yeah, it's a little bittersweet to say goodbye to these characters. I loved so much about this series: it's massively spicy, has some interesting worldbuilding, awesome characters and such lovely connections between characters I just couldn't get enough. This might be my favorite series by this author, but I love how she keeps on reinventing herself and I can't wait to see what she'll be writing next.

As Samantha sees the green dragon Balor grab Granger and drop him from a great height into the ocean, as he disappears she realizes that she in love with Granger and she does not know how she can live without him. The green dragon attacks her the pain is so intense she wants to give up but she knows Granger would not want her to keep trying to protect herself. Is this the end of Sam? Balor continues to shred Sam’s wings she tries to reason with Balor about if this truly the way he wants a mate. Balor says he does not care he wants her. Suddenly there thunder booms overhead and a huge storm is starting it feels so powerful, Sam keeps trying to get free as Zane taught her to but Balor has his claws in her back. As Balor is flying away with her, he tells her she is his now. When suddenly out of the water a massive black dragon comes, and he roars into Balor and Sam’s minds that Sam is his. Granger is alive and he is the storm dragon that will now complete her harem. Granger, Aydan, Evander, and Zane are her men. Oh however, this is not the end of story. You need to see what happens to Sam, her friend, and they have to catch Malikay and his group to stop them from killing and doing destructive things to the humans. There is lot of exciting pages to read.

Surge of Storms by Lacey Carter Andersen is book four in the Dragon Bonds Series. After reading the previous books I wanted to know what would happen in this final book. I was unsure of my feelings towards the series after the third one but this one fully brought me back. I finished the book in about a day because I was invested in the outcome of the story and Sam with her mates. Was I surprised who was revealed to be the Storm dragon… no. But did I love the scene… 100% yes. Honestly it was my favorite moment from the whole series. Granger showed that you can be gentle but when the time comes absolutely intense to protect those he loves. The story/plot moved quickly, was filled with action, tension, spicy goodness and of course love. The writing in this book was done well and it wrapped everything up nicely in the end. I was satisfied when I finally put my kindle down. Overall I did enjoy this series even if a few things were hit and miss for me. Ultimately if you enjoy a fantasy world that has dragons, fated mates and a why choose romance these are the books for you.

OMG! Amazing way to end this series!

I was seriously concerned with the ending of the previous book on what would happen to Granger – and thankfully I was RIGHT! I have absolutely loved the journey of Sam and her amazing dragon mates – Zane, Evander, Ayden and Granger. After Granger emerged as the Storm dragon, they thought that they would be able to overcome the beta dragons – Balor, Kek, and Than – but they are being conniving and refuse to give up. When Malikey awakens and joins their group, they must work even harder to keep Sam safe.

At the lab, more and more dragons join the compound looking for a safe place to be. When Evander tells them about how they have 2 sons from previous lives, they are excited to be able to meet them.

The ending, while it made my heart hurt to see Sam hurt, was amazing on how her men took on the others and totally did to them what they wanted to do to Sam – Karma at its finest!! I loved the final chapter with how it all ended up… it definitely made my heart flutter.

Absolutely fantastic book and series. I wholeheartedly recommend reading this!

Finally! The moment I have been waiting for since book one has finally happened. They've found the storm dragon. With Sam's harem complete, things seem to go smoother between the guys. I really enjoyed the group dates, although I don't think they realized that's what they were. They were just hanging out as a family, having a good time. Of course, Zane was just too adorable with his puppy-like energy. It was hard to resist. He's still my favorite, but Granger called out to me in this one. I empathized with Granger when he had his bouts of insecurity. Those were some very emotional moments, but he had Sam and the guys rally around him and talk things out. They were some very touching moments.

I enjoyed the plot. It was quick and wrapped up things very well. I loved the final chapter, it was a nice moment that hinted at a sweet HEA. It also made me curious if there will possibly be a spin-off in the future.

Bring on the storm!

I knew it! So happy and so sad at the same time. Happy to see Sam’s harem complete, but sad that his is the end of the series. This has been my favorite series so far. I could not get enough, and this last book, was full of nonstop awe moments. Each book we met a new member to Sam’s harem. This time, the Storm dragon! The biggest of the dragons (in more than one way) and the sweetest. But so much self doubt. We get to delve into the mind of the Storm dragon and follow along as he finds his worth in himself and his place in the harem.

Each of her men so unique. I loved them all, but my favorite is still Zane. Helping the other awakened dragons learn to be human. Same aversion to clothes. Comment about how strange they are about covering toes and other male item still makes me laugh. Join the adventure and see how Sam will find her happily ever after with her four protective and loving mates! A spicy conclusion to a great series. Just wish it was longer.

This last book was just perfect. Sam has finally found her final dragon to add to her group. The storm dragon has emerged and has given them a fighting chance against the others. Out of her group of guys I still think Zane is my favorite. He has been the sweetest and most easy going of the group and after all the bucket between Ayden and Evander he helps sooth the grumpy that was coming from them. It does seem though that with the addition to Sam’s group and it being complete they have all settled down and have started working with each other. They even started reaching out to the new dragons to try and make allies with them as Zane remembers which dragons tend to be good and which are bad. We do finally get an ending dealing with the bad dragons we have been dealing with the whole series. I had hopes that they could get the two dragons turned to the good side but it sadly was not meant to be. Overall I was happy with the series and enjoyed reading it.

Surge of Storms is the fourth and final book in this series. Where book 3 ended with Granger, it picks right back up with him and Sam. Yes, things go in the direction that you expect with Granger finally emerging as the awaited storm dragon. He helps save Sam from the green dragon who fully intended to take Sam for himself.
The harem is finally complete. Granger has some mental issues to work through. It was a little eyebrow raising that he had zero experience with other women, but Sam loves it, plus, he's really good regardless...so who cares? LOL! Aydan still shows some jealousy, but thankfully it's more controlled.
Zane is still my favorite of the men, closely followed by Granger. There is a lot of chaos, but the drama make this book a page-turner that you're going to devour. Prepare for a great ending to this series.
It's sad to see them go, but they deserve their happiness and more.

Of course Lacey is amazing when it comes to series ending, at least I think so. Surge of Storms is such an amazing ending to a great series. In fact, even though I say this with every series of hers, it could have just become my favorite. I would highly recommend reading this series if you have not given it a try yet.

I am a sucker for Dragon Stories and Sam and her men deliver on one of the best ones I have read. I really feel that Sam and her guys were made for each other. The chemistry is off the charts, especially between Sam and Granger. I really felt those two click, like he really gets Sam. Don't get me wrong all the guys are great and they are all good together. Maybe he is just my favorite.

Loved how everything tied up in the end and that ending was just so satisfying and amazing.

So if you are looking for a series to get lost in, I found the perfect one for you!!!

Okay.. I thought about DNF-ing this series multiple times but dragons - enough said. This was a quick read but I find that characters will be forgettable. The story telling is quite cut and dry. It is quite factual, it gives us the information about the characters backstory but not in a way that allows us to connect with them. There's not much plot and world building. There is definitely a lot of spice. There's a lot of telling but not showing - like the FMC tries to get to know the other half of her harem but "hormones" and "the dragon thing" just gets in the way. It has potential and I liked the concept of awakened and sleeping dragons, but it fell flat. I still finished it because again - dragons. It also seems to be trying to tackle gender equality but it wasn't successful. The final battle was pretty much nonexistent and the last book read more like an epilogue. It felt like there was a checklist of what needed to happen and the flow was just not there.

What a perfect ending to the series!

I was so unhappy with the cliffhanger in the previous book as I couldn't wait to see what happened to Granger.
Now, we know that Granger is a part of the harem and is one of the strongest dragons there is!

Granger ends up being one of my favorite in Sams harem as he just gets her. He ends up being the glue that keeps them altogether. The other guys are amazing too and all bring something to the harem that Sam needs.

Together they must band and fight against the dragons that want to rule in tyranny and take Sam away.

The way the story ends, wraps up everything and even gives dragons hope for the future, not something they were really able to have in their past lives.

I won't give anything more away or I'll end up spoiling the ending but, I absolutely loved this series and can't wait to see what this author will write next!

The final instalment in the Dragon Bonds series.
And what a conclusion it is!
Samantha finally meets the storm dragon and I must admit, that I was not surprised by the identity. But that does not matter, cause it's perfect.

The action and pace of the book follows the previous ones. They are very fast-paced and the only complaint I have is, that I want the books to be double in length - they are that good!

One of my favorite things about this series is, how different the guys are. Zane especially is amazing, with his "don't give a S..." about what others think a propper male should act like. And gentle Granger, who turns absolutely savage when those he love is in danger.
I'm all here for it!

I can highly recommend this book and now finished series. Lovers of PNR WhyChoose romance, will love this fast-paced tale of love and dragons.

Sam finds her storm dragon and I totally knew who it would be! I am so so happy with that outcome and it makes total sense as it's Granger! :) Her harem is complete and they all are absolutely perfect together. Together the band together to fight against the group of dragons that keep trying to kidnap Sam for themselves. Along the way the gather many of the other dragons and use Specter Inc as a base for them as well and help the awaken dragons adapt to the new world. I won't give all the details but Sam and her guys get their HEA. My only issue is that this book felt a little rushed and I would have loved to learn about the other female dragons. But that was kind of left wide open. Otherwise, great wrap up for this series. :)
