I received an electronic ARC from Owlkids through Edelweiss+. RJ wants to make two cards - one for each of his dads, for Father's Day. He copes with life by using math to sooth and make sense. Unfortunately, he doesn't have enough time to make two perfect cards in a half hour. His teacher convinces him to start and get one done at least. Fortunately, his classmates surprise him and the story ends on a positive note. Duncan offer a clear look at this coping style using clear language. Younger readers will connect and relate to RJ's feelings.
This is such a fun way to reinforce concepts about time, and address childhood anxiety and worry. The humour is fun and child friendly. The classroom uniting to address the protagonist's anxiety models acceptance for children
This story about a boy racing to finish a Father’s Day card for his two dads is more than a fun story. It’s about anxiety and time management, acceptance and kindness as we see when RJ’s classmates come to the rescue. A great story well told!

Kids will surely relate to RJ who is excited for Father’s Day and feeling overwhelmed about making the perfect cards! With two dads, RJ must work even more quickly to get both cards made. This heartwarming story shows readers the power of teamwork, support, and friendship.
I totally empathized with RJ wanting to make the best cards possible for his dads and stressing as time kept slipping through his fingers. This story is so relatable and ultimately heartwarming. I loved the poem RJ comes up with and no spoilers here, but the ending is SO sweet.
This is such a special book. I love how the class helps out their friend, as well as the connection to math. Plus, it's a wonderful representation of families with two dads!
