This sweet story is the start of a new "next generation" series to the Good Hope series (which I highly recommend). Brynn and Callum are both happily established in their chosen adult lives, but then Callum discovers he has a 6 year old son. Of course, that upends his life. Since Brynn is willing to help them, it forever changes her life as well. I enjoyed reading how this whole situation is navigated, seeing old friends from the original series, and watching the growing relationships. I especially liked Parker, who is Callum's son.
I was so happy when I saw that Ms. Kirk was giving readers more of Good Hope. Good Hope is the town that started it all for me. I don't think I will ever be ready to let this town go. Flash forward ten years from the last Good Hope book and we get the next generation. These books will be about the kids that came out the many relationships in this small town. The kids are picking up were the parents left off. Still making sure neighbors are helping neighbors. Brynn Chapin always knew what she wanted to do and where she wanted to do it. She always planned to come back home to be a clinical psychologist. Brynn did the only thing she could do when her friend, Callum Brody showed up at her doorstep. She let him and his new found son, Parker, stay because that is the Good Hope way.
Brynn and Callum were never together when growing up, but they always had each other's back. Callum knew that Brynn would help him with this. Parker was thrust upon Callum unexpectedly, and Callum needed to process this sudden change in his life. One minute, he is running around the world hopping from adventure to adventure; the next minute, he is a single father. He needed someone he could lean on. Brynn became both Callum and Parker's person. She gave them the time and ability to get to know each other. Readers are going to fall in love with Parker. His abandonment issues will tug at reader's heart strings.
While all of this is going on, something more is developing between Brynn and Callum. They both realize they enjoy spending time together. Feelings begin to surface and things are starting to progress. Brynn is trying to keep her heart out of the equation. Callum doesn't live in Good Hope, and has said he doesn't plan on living there. How can Brynn watch Callum and Parker walk away after she has fallen in love with both of them? I loved watching the budding relationship. Readers will see the writing on the wall and brace themselves for the eventual possibility of Callum leaving. Ms. Kirk has got me hooked again. Any and all things Good Hope will be devoured as soon as possible.
The start of a New Year and the start of a new series; The Next Generations which is going to take characters from the Good Hope series, primarily the kids, who are now adults.
Book One of this new series is Connections; Callum & Brynn. After going off to college, Brynn is now back at Good Hope as a Psychologist and involved in building a practice with a couple of partners. She is also building a life with a new home and living in a town she feels is the best place to be.
Who though, is knocking on her door in the middle of the night with a small child looking for a place to stay? Not much of a surprise that Callum would go to Brynn as these two were childhood friends that had somewhat of an attraction too each other.
Always an athlete, Callum has been away from Good Hope, living in Boston with the job of his dreams being involved in extreme sports. A job that involves lots of traveling and not a lot of responsibilities away from work.
As surprised as Brynn was to have Callum at her front door, he explained to her his surprise when an older lady tracked him down stating that her grandchild was his son (her daughter and Callum had been acquaintances and had dated for a short time) and she needed him to take responsibility as she was ill and her daughter had taken off without the boy.
Brynn is there for Callum to help him go through the 1st few weeks of fatherhood as he attempts to figure out how he can manage to have the life as a dad and whether it could be done with them living in Boston. But in the meantime, him and Brynn have gotten very close. She has hopes that they can be a happy family there in Good Hope.
There are questions that are answered as you read through the book. Is Callum even ready to be a full-time dad and realize his job has to take a backseat to what his priority needs to be. Is Boston where they need to be and if so, does this mean there is not a place in his life with Brynn? Can Brynn truly open her heart without the fear of being hurt.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the publisher and am voluntarily reviewing it.
I am so glad that Cindy Kirk still wants us to visit Good Hope, WI and see what the next generation of residents are up to!! I’ve reached the age where I can look back and remember the times when my children, my friends’ children, my nieces and nephews were young and remember fondly the things they did in grade school, middle school, and high school; their attitudes about certain things, and how they treated each other! As I look back and remember, I marvel at how they have all grown up to be decent, caring human beings, using what they learned to make the lives of those around them better! Connections, and the books to follow in this series, will give us the same glimpse into the lives of the children of Good Hope with one bonus: we get to see inside their minds to discover their fears and insecurities as well as some mistakes they’ve made along the way and how they overcome and make things right. Callum Brody and Brynn Chapin have been good friends since their childhood. Brynn would have loved to take things deeper when they were in high school, but Callum just wanted to pursue his adventures away from Good Hope! Fast forward several years, and we find that Callum’s adventures produced a son he didn’t know existed. Callum knows deep down that Good Hope is a great place to grow up, but can he really come back? What will his parents say? What will his twin brother think? What will the people of Good Hope do? Brynn knows that Good Hope is the best place to be. That’s why she decided to return and make it her grown-up home. As a clinical psychologist, she can help the people of her childhood home live better lives! When Callum returns to Good Hope with his son in tow, Brynn steps up and provides a place to stay until his parents return. That’s the start of renewing an old friendship. Will Callum finally see what he was missing, not only in Good Hope, but in Brynn? Good Hope continues to work its magic on the next generation. I can’t wait to see who we learn about next!
A new generation in Good Hope. It was so good to escape to Good Hope once again where this small community supports and cares for one another. This is a very good book with an interesting and engaging storyline by Cindy Kirk.
Brynn Chapin, who is now 29 years old, is content with her life. She has moved back home and is a successful Clinical Psychologist. She has no love interest which seems to bother other people more than it does her. She has her family and friends and a career that she is happy with. Her long-time friend, Callum Brody, is her complete opposite. He is always looking for his next thrill and has no plans of returning to Good Hope. They have both supported one another in their career goals. Callum shows up one night at Brynn’s home with a 6-year-old son that he just found out that he has. His parents are out of town and they know nothing about the fact that they have a grandson. Brynn offers to let them stay at her home as Callum sorts through how he should move forward. Parker is an endearing child who has suffered so much loss in his short 6 years. He doesn’t know his dad and is suffering with nightmares. I loved how Brynn guided Callum in how to care and communicate with his son. Callum feels like he cannot be the dad Parker needs. He has a job that has him traveling a lot
As Brynn, Callum and Parker spend so much time together, they become a family that Parker is embracing and becoming very attached to. The sparks are flying between Brynn and Callum. Brynn’s parents are afraid their daughter will get hurt as they know how different they both are. Will Callum be able to fall into the father roll and be the man that Brynn deserves?
I highly recommend this heartwarming love story. It is a story guaranteed to pull on your heart strings.
If you read the Good Hope Series you watched Brynn and Callum grow up. If you are new to Good Hope you meet two amazing and wonderful young adults. Brynn goes off to college and comes back to start a life in the town she loves. Callum was never happy sitting still and finds a place where he is happy. One faithful night Brynn gets a knock at her door and finds Callum with a small boy. Callum explains the boy is his and he just found out he is a father. Callum learns about being a father and Brynn gets to really reconnect with her friend. While Brynn and Callum had always just been friends there was always something more underneath the surface. Spending time together, sharing a home and raising a child makes each of them realize that there is more to their friendship than they both thought. Brynn can see them starting a life together, but can Callum come home? Can he stay put and be happy in one place? It's lovely to see characters from Good Hope growing up and moving on, but the character of Good Hope is still there and growing with them. I was sad when Good Hope ended, but this is a wonderful new chapter and I am excited to go back to to Good Hope over and over again. Once again as must as this involves characters from the original Good Hope series it can also be the start of your Good Hope journey. This is also a wonderful stand alone story with well written characters and a nice story line with a happy ending.
This return to Good Hope's second generation started with a sad moment. I wondered if it would change the feel of the story. Although that specific element was missing, the heartwarming, small-town family appeal of Good Hope was not significantly altered.
Callum knew he could depend on Brynn. Neither person was aware of their connection and chemistry until they reconnected as friends. When Callum showed up at Brynn's door, my heart went out to Parker. There were so many different emotions involved in the situation with Callum, Parker, and Brynn. I did love the way Callum's family embraced Parker along with the rest of the town. I'm sure we will get periodic updates about these three as the Next Generation series moves forward.
This would have been a 5-star read for me, but I felt there was one gaping omission that I was expecting and even searched for after completing the book. Callum made a point of visiting Beck. There were very specific things Beck was going to investigate. The story provided no closure to those elements of Callum and Parker's situation. No further information about it at all.
A fair number of chapters and an epilogue occurred after the last mentions of people involved in Parker's life. Not resolving the outcome of Callum's visit to Beck left me feeling both disappointed and frustrated. Other than that, this was another heartwarming HEA Good Hope read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Connections is a great story about Cullum & Brynn. Cindy Kirk did a fantastic job bringing the children of her first books to adults in this book. She also began with updating us about members of Good Hope from their younger years.
The story begins when Cullum finds out that he has become a father of a 6 year old boy that he didn't know existed. The boy, Parker was living with his grandmother and she was sick and could no longer care for him. Not knowing what to do, he returns to Good Hope and to the one person he knows can help him, Brynn. Brynn is quite surprised when she see Cullum after so many years. He's not alone, he has with him his son. She opens her house to them and makes sure Cullum knows she will help him with whatever he needs for help. When Brynn looks at Cullum she still feels that spark, but with so much going on in his life and him being unsure if he wants to not only raise his son but stay in Good Hope she doesn't know what she wants to do about her feelings. Cullum's feelings for Brynn are growing, but his job is in Boston. Should he stay in Good Hope and raise his son, should he take Parker back to Boston with him and leave Brynn behind or ask her to go with him? Read to find out what decisions are made. Enjoy! I did!
Connections: Brynn & Callum is the start of a new series based in Good Hope. This is the Next Generation if you will – sons & daughters of characters already established in the original Good Hope series.
When Ms Kirk announced that she was continuing the stories in Good Hope but with the next generation, it got me excited. I couldn’t wait to see whose story would be first & she certainly didn’t disappoint.
Brynn Chapin & Callum Brody were friends growing up but never together. Both went their separate ways - Brynn became a clinical psychologist & Callum fueled his passion for all things adrenaline. Brynn came home to Good Hope as this is where she wanted to practice whereas Callum was off touring the world; until one night he rocks up on Brynn’s doorstep with his son Parker. Brynn takes them both in as this is the Good Hope way.
Throughout the book, Brynn becomes Callum’s person – someone to work things out with after his life changes dramatically. Feelings develop between the two, but both are reluctant to act on them. Brynn lives in Good Hope whereas Callum is only passing through.
I love the way that Ms Kirk reels you into the book & you get so invested that you can’t stop reading. This book is no exception & I look forward to reading more in the series. I highly recommend reading this book if you’re a fan of the Good Hope series & all things Cindy Kirk!
Brynn Chapin is living her best life. She lives in Good Hope, built a thriving psychology practice, and bought her first home. The way Brynn sees it, she has everything she could want, or so she thought. Callum Brody lives for the thrill, but the latest surprise might be more than even he can handle. Callum has a son. Since he has no idea how to care for a child, he turns to his old friend, Brynn. When Brynn and Callum see each other again, sparks fly, but can their newfound affection last? This is a beautifully written contemporary romance filled with wonderful characters from the greatest romantic series ever written. Cindy Kirk's work is a timeless look into the best things of humanity, and the tribulations and trials that can affect us all. We only hope to be like the characters in her books. In my opinion, the themes of this book showcase the true connections of love between a father and son, and two people who have known subconsciously that they were linked from an early age. Every time I read one of Cindy Kirk's stories, I always leave with my heart a little lighter and my outlook on life a little sweeter. I recommend her stories to anyone who feels down on life and needs a little pick me up.
Welcome to the next generation of our Good Hope family.
As the book opens, we learn that the town matriachs and matchmakers have passed away. There is a bronze statue and wishing fountain to make sure that no one forgets them. We are also introduced to the adult versions of the children we met in the original Good Hope series. Brynn Chapin is back living in Good Hope working as a therapist when a knock on her door has her seeing Callum Brody and his six year old son, Parker. He just found out that he had a son whose mother had left Parker with his grandmother and an unloving grandfather. When the grandmother gets sick, she has no other option than to contact Callum and give him custody of Parker.
Callum, Brynn and Parker get to know each other and are starting to live as a family. Callum also needs to help Parker get rid of his phobia of being left and Parker and Callum start to see a therapist together. But Callum needs to go back to his job in Boston, but he needs to decide if family and Brynn are worth staying in Good Hope.
It was great to go back to Good Hope and see the adult characters we knew as children and to read about the other characters and how they have "aged" through the years.
I devoured this book, the first in a brand new series of three. If you have read Good Hope series you will already be acquainted with some of the characters in this book, with new ones being introduced too. I loved reconnecting with the characters, becoming fully immersed in their lives. Don’t worry if you haven’t read the Good Hope series, you will enjoy this new book, primarily about Callum and Brynn, immensely. The children in Good Hope are now grown up, navigating adult life and all that comes with it.
Brynn Chapin loves living in the beautiful village of Good Hope, surrounded by amazing family and friends, who all help each other in times of need, a real community spirit. A knock at her door late at night changes the trajectory of her life. Her childhood best friend, Callum Brody, has turned up with an unexpected surprise. This a a beautiful and uplifting story, one that you will devour. It’s a tale of many life lessons. After reading this book I re-read Summer in Good Hope, the moment where Callum and Brynn first met as children. I highly recommend reading this book, I cannot wait for the heat instalment if this series.
We first met Callum and Brynn in the book Summer in Good Hope when they were young children. Fast forward years later and they are now adults. Callum has always been a lover of extreme adventures and has gotten a job doing what he enjoys. Brynn has always erred on side of caution. After college she came home and has become a Psychologist. Although Callum and Brynn has stayed in touch with each over the years she never expected him to show up on her doorstep with a son he did not know he had and needing her help. I read this book with a constant smile and with all the feels. I love how Ms. Kirk has found a way to continue writing in the world of Good Hope by aging the children we met in the Good Hope Series. I love that although the characters are from that world she limited their parent interaction and truly focus the storyline on Callum Brynn and his son Parker. I was so happy when Ms. Kirk let her readers know her intention. The fast forward to these two adulthood was done in believable and coercive way. A great start to a new generation of Good Hope.
This book was such a sweet return to one of my favorite series. I was so sad when the Good Hope series ended, but what a fun way to revisit!
Brynn and Callum were so fun to read about and see glimpses of throughout the whole Good Hope series, and I am so glad to see them again as adults. Brynn has always been a planner and knew exactly what she wanted, and she didn’t let anything deter her. Callum was a little more free and wild, never wanting to settle. This was a story of friends, family, and deciding what you are willing to do for those you love, even when it’s scary.
There was 1 plot point that was not closed from what I could tell, and it was a pretty big one that took time out of a chapter to explore, and was then mentioned in passing a couple other times. For that reason, this is more of a 4.5 star.
I would I recommend this book to people looking for a heartwarming story about love in all forms. It is the first in the new series, so you don’t have to read the Good Hope series first, but why wouldn’t you!
Oh my goodness, I was so excited to go back to Good Hope, one of my vary favourite series. Coming back a number of years later we meet a grown up Brynn Chapin, working as a clinical psychologist back in Good Hope. I loved that we got a mention of Gladys, Katherine and Ruby in the opening chapter. Back into town comes Callum Brody with his newly found 6 year old son Parker, asking for Brynn's help. Callum, the adventurer, and one time crush of Brynn's is lost as to how to care for a boy he has only just met. He doesn't believe he can be a good father but Brynn knows he is a good man who just needs some help and guidance.....so that's just what she does. The journey they all go on is heart warming and just delightful. I loved seeing some old characters and also getting to know the children we knew, now as adults. This is a really string start to a new series. I can't wait to read more of the the next generation. This is a big 5 stars from me.
I absolutely love this continuation of the Good Hope Series. This new series starts 10 years after the other Good Hope Series ended. So we are looking at the children of the first series.
Ms. Kirk has done a great job with this book! The characters are sincere and relatable, which is something I like to be able to relate to the characters when I am reading.
Brynn, Callum, and Parker is the basis of this story. They have a few challenges, but are able to work through the issues and making Parker a part of Good Hope!
One thing I like about the Good Hope series is that the town sounds like an ideal place to live and have friends. I always wish I lived in a town the same way.
You will not go wrong reading this new series or picking up the original a good Hope books.
What a great way to begin the next generation in Good Hope near a fountain of the three matchmakers. Leave it to Gladys to plan a wishing well for the town where the three can still give inspiration.
Where else would Callum go to but his supportive home town and friend, Brynn, when he needed to sort out the new curve ball in his life.
It is great to see the next generation and the support of the previous one. I loved how Brynn shared about her grief support group that is not just about people you lose in your life but how your life changes can also cause a grief of what was. Enjoy the journey with Callum and Brynn.
It was a treat being back in Good Hope with dear friends.
This is the next generation of Good Hope stories, and it is off to a good start. Callum comes home to Good Hope to Brynn's house in tow with the 6 year old son, Parker, who he didn't know about. Parker has had a rough childhood, and he tugs on Brynn's heartstrings. Callum does not handle things well at first. Eventually, with Brynn's help and Parker's sweet personality, he begins to change. Until his job is threatened and he has to choose what is most important in life; a life with Brynn and Parker or the extreme sports job he loves in Boston. A heartwarming story that doesn't shy away from showing the good, the bad, and the ugly of relationships.
This is a spin-off of the author’s Good Hope series. Set ten years after the conclusion of the first series, it introduces the next generation of Good Hope residents. Callum Body, a wild child, has channeled his adventurous spirit into the extreme sports tourism industry. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when he discovers he has a six-year-old son, Parker. Seeking shelter, Callum arrives at his childhood friend Brynn Chapin’s doorstep with Parker, asking if they can stay until he figures out his next steps.
Brynn and Callum, who have been friends since childhood, share a special connection. As Callum navigates the challenges of fatherhood, he realizes he needs to protect Parker from the fear of abandonment. Amidst these new responsibilities, Brynn and Callum’s feelings for each other deepen, leading to a heartwarming friends-to-lovers romance.
The novel features a delightful cast of characters, including the residents of Good Hope, showcasing their lives and growth. Brynn and Callum are exceptional characters, and Parker steals the show with his charm and innocence. While this is a spin-off of a previous series, it can be enjoyed as a standalone novel. I received an ARC of this book from the author for my honest review.
I read all the Good Hope books and was sad to see the series end. So I was very excited to see that Cindy Kirk was going to continue the Good Hope series with many of the familiar characters along with some new ones!
This book took me back to the early Good Hope books. Cindy is definitely in her element and this was one of her best books.
I loved the interaction between Callum and Brynn. Parker was adorable! The story felt real and moved along at a good pace. I couldn’t wait to finish it! ❤️
Callum Brody returns to Good Hope with a 6 year old son, Parker, he knew nothing about. He goes to his best childhood friend, Brynn Chapin, for help. Callum doesn’t know how he is going to fit a child into his extreme sports lifestyle. Brynn suggests counseling for Parker in case he is dealing with abandonment issues. The more time Brynn spends with Callum and Parker the more feelings she develops for both. Will Callum stay in Good Hope or return to his life in Boston?
I enjoyed visiting the next generation in Good Hope. The chemistry between Callum and Brynn was sizzling though Callum took a minute to get with the program. Becoming a dad and having to adjust to a new reality was difficult for Callum, but he finally saw a future that gave him everything he needed. I found myself missing the town matriarch, but there was solace in tapping into the kids as they grow up.
Good Hope is one of my favorite places to visit and I'm so glad to have stories for the next generation. i love the way Callum and Brynn reconnected, the love they so quickly have for Parker, and how family is still a big part of their story. I laughed at Callum when he kept believing his life was in Boston and cheered when he finally realized where he belonged and why. I think it's great that the fearsome trio from the first series has a statue! A fun read with a very satisfying ending.
I am so excited for this new series and book 1 definitely didn’t disappoint! Callum and Brynn have such a sweet story starting from when they were kids when they became best friends. That connection remains over the years and it comes full circle when Callum needs help. I couldn’t put this book down and was smiling when I finished! This is a must read if you’re looking for something to uplift your spirits.
This is the first book in the continuing family life in the town of Good Hope. I so enjoyed seeing the children, who are now adults, featured in this story. The author, Cindy Kirk, does an amazing job mentioning some of our favorite characters from previous Good Hope Books. It made me smile remembering some of them again. I truly feel anyone who wants a feel good story will enjoy this book. Looking forward to see what she brings next!
This book tackles the age old question love or fulfillment. When Callem discovers he is the father of a six year old he races home to the town of Good Hope and the one person who he is sure will help him navigate what he believes is a disaster waiting to happen. Follow the adventure, discovering what family really means as happiness conquers fears and quiets a restless soul.
Wow, I am so excited to be an ARC reader for this Next Generation Series! Callum and Brynn was a page turning read. Callum and Brynn have always been there for each other. He has arrived home with a son in tow and needs his best friend's help. This book of 1 of the new series did not disappoint! Loved everything about the Good Hope series and can't wait for Book 2 of the Next Generation.
Won this book on Goodreads . Life throws us some curves. Brynn and Call um were Friends growing up in a small town, he wanted adventure and she had her life planned to remain in their hometown. After Callum found out he was a father he needed a friend and a village to help.
Great start of a new series in Good Hope. The Good Hope series was Cindy Kirk‘s best work. It’s so nice to be back and with the next generation. Callum and Brynn have been best friends since childhood but when Callum finds out he’s the father of a six-year-old, he comes back to Good Hope for Brynn’s help. I cannot wait to see who comes back next.
A sweet story with lovable characters. Living in a small town is something I have no experience with, so it always makes me laugh at how fast interesting news travels. I’ve not read the original series so I wasn’t sure what to expect but I had a good time overall and didn’t feel like I was missing a ton of background by not reading them. Quick read that was fun and entertaining.
