She needs a hero. He needs a break. A four-leaf clover, a leprechaun with a mission, and a matchmaker may have other plans for them.
What do you do when everything goes wrong? Make a wish to a four-leaf clover, right? There’s no other logical way out of it! A bitter end to her engagement turned novelist Kate Carnahan’s hero into a snarky disaster. With a deadline looming, Kate’s willing to try anything to find a new hero even wishing on a four-leaf clover But a clover wish is a heart wish. Everyone knows that! When part leprechaun, Bradley Flynn, is charged with finding Kate’s true love for her, he calls on Essie O’Callaghan, the Hereditary Matchmaker of Cluhalaugh who happens to have a mission of her own. Dr. Michael Walshe had a ring in his pocket when he walked in on his girlfriend sleeping with her costar. He wants no part of Essie’s plan to find him a wife. Fate – or something more leprechaun shaped – has Kate and the doctor bumping into each other wherever they go in Ireland. Will Kate realize that Michael could be far more to her than the cure to her writer’s block?
Susan writes second chance romances with a touch of magic as Susan B. James and children's books as Susan J. Berger. She writes older heroines because she is chronologically gifted and enjoys creating characters who remember that change is only on the outside. Inside our older shells is a much younger psyche. In her debut romance, Time and Forever, two women in their sixties inadvertently travel back to London in 1969. Maybe This Time, the companion book, won UnCaged Books’ 2019 Raven Award for contemporary romance, the 2019 Reader's Favorite Gold Medal for Time Travel, and was runner-up in the Audiobook –General category. The third book in the trilogy is Irish Magic. No time travel involved but there is a leprechaun. She’s currently pitching Lord Byron’s Daughter which tied for second in the 2021 Hearts Through History contest,(Victorian/time travel/WWII), and revising The Witches Garden. (Older heroine, magic, a snarky cat.) Susan's other career is acting. You can search her on IMDB as Susan Berger.
A sweet, fun romance that finds one bitter author discovering the magic of a four leaf clover, a leprechaun, a matchmaker and love itself are too much for her broken heart to resist when she travels to the Emerald Isle in search of a hero for her latest romance and finds a hero for her heart.
IRISH MAGIC by Susan B. James is a quirky tale of love where and when you least expect it, but exactly when you need it most.
Kate’s love life has left her with writer’s block. Part leprechaun, Bradley Flynn’s job is to find her a love match, so who else could he turn to, but the matchmaker of Cluhalaugh who knows exactly who she needs.
Michael was about to pop the question to his girlfriend when he walked in on her in the arms of another. There is no way he wants to ever face that pain again, yet or some strange reason, Kate and Michael keep “bumping” into each other, in more ways than one!
Pretty sure this romance could make anyone believe in the magic of love! A quick, light read that shows great character changes and growth throughout!
I received a complimentary ARC edition from Susan B. James! This is my honest and voluntary review!
Kindle Edition, 270 pages Expected publication: August 14th 2019 by Soul Mate Publishing For Reviews, Giveaways, Fabulous Book News, follow: http://tometender.blogspot.com
Every person should have an Essie and a Bradley in their life! Those two characters brought a sense of joy and lightness to the story in several places.
Kate and Michael both had a hard time with love and are afraid of trying again, so when a matchmaker puts them in each other sights they resist the feelings they are having for each other. Will they let go of their fears and see they are perfect for each other? A sweet and touching romantic comedy that will make you smile in all the cute moments. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
What do you get when to take a doctor, an author, a leprechaun/human and put them in Ireland? What first caught my attention was simply the title. I am part Irish. I believe that the idea of magic (to some degree) appeals to a lot of people.
I was hooked by the end of the first chapter. First of all, any book that mentions a possibility of a character going to Ireland already earns a star. When Kate makes a wish it’s just a question of how literal that wish will be taken. I was able to complete the book in two days.
“I based my hero on my fiancé, and when he broke our engagement, Lord Rotherham turned ugly.” — This quote from the heroine’s book got me wondering if authors base characters off of real people. Obviously, this would make the characters seem real and even relatable, just like they are in this book.
I have read other books where a character is also an author. This is the first one I read with quotes from that character’s writing. It was almost as if I was reading two books at once and I really liked it.
This is the first book by Susan B. James that I read, and I’m so glad I did. She got me believing in “Irish Magic”.
First off, I read this book with some trepidation as Romance novels are usually not my thing. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. The book is also a travel log of Ireland which the author does a great job of describing. There is magic in this book but just enough to make it interesting. My favorite character was Bradley Flynn who is part leprechaun. He is charged with finding Kate her true love but is not allowed to use magic to fulfill her wish. Part of me hoped it was Bradley that won her heart. All in all a very great read.
Put a little magic in your life. Susan B. James has written a charming love story brought to you from the Emerald Isles. Kate and Michael may not know what’s good for them, but a bit of a mischief-maker leprechaun named Bradley Flynn is going to turn their lives upside down. Make a wish on a four-leaf clover and you might just get what you asked for or maybe more. A lovely story that will go down as smooth as Irish whiskey and have you wishing you’d meet a leprechaun or a small-town doctor.
Perfect romance read for St Patrick's Day A beautiful, well written and well narrated love story - perfect for this time of year when the luck of the Irish is in the air. But is is luck or magic for Kate and Michael. Both have had a hard time of it when it comes to love but a leprechaun named Bradly is assigned Kate's heart wish - after wishing on a four leaf clover but his hands are tied so he calls in re-enforcements in the name of matchmaker Essie O’Callaghan. The four meet and continue to intermingle their way thru Ireland where Michael is open to his love match and Kate is scared to admit her secret want of a true and forever love.
I loved these characters, all the main characters as well as supporting. Lots of character growth throughout. Bradly kept me on my toes and you'll find yourself at times going back and forth between team Bradly and team Michael for Kate - but in the end the matchmaker knows...
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. *this review is based on the audio version of this read
Kate and Michael’s story is sweet. Both characters have bad luck when it comes to relationships but that quickly changes with a wee bit of help. I easily got swept up in their magical adventure. It’s was exciting and captivating. I look forward to listening to more from this author.
Sweet- lovely romance with a bit of second lead syndrome. The matchmaking was so fun to read about, I almost wish I got to witness one happen in real life.
I was in the mood for a little travel to Ireland BEFORE this whole COVID-19 business, and this little tale of Kate, a plucky lass who is afraid to believe in true love, or magick (aren't they the same thing?) is really charming. Along with two hunky guys, Bradley and Michael, one of whom may or may not be part leprechaun.
Disclaimer: I'm acquainted with the author on social media and IRL.
There's also some charming children and exploration of some of Ireland's hot spots, plus a few ghosts and lots of sexual tension. Great happily ever after. I enjoyed this very much.
Light and funny, Irish Magic is a feel good romance sprinkled with a bit of magic. The story follows Kate, a romance novelist whose muse (and boyfriend) turned out to be a dud. She’s feeling a little jaded about love and now finds herself struggling to finish her latest book. Michael is a sexy and newly single doctor whose girlfriend cheated. Neither one is in a good place emotionally, but as they travel to Ireland separately and continue bumping into each other, they have to question whether there is more than luck on their side. Throw in a part-leprechaun and some good old Irish magic, and this couple finds themselves fated to be together.
The writing is so light that it’s easy to read quickly, and the characters are all likeable. I was definitely rooting for Michael and Kate to get together, though I will admit that I would’ve liked a shorter journey to getting there. The magic subplot, though interesting, took away from time spent with the couple and overshadowed the romance at times. I think that if it had been pared down a bit, I would’ve enjoyed the book more but it’s certainly not a bad read. If you’re looking for a feel good book and don’t mind subplots about Ireland thrown in, then this might be the book for you. I received a free copy via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Kate and Michael have both been burned by love and don’t want anything to do with it but fate has a different plan for them. With a little help from a matchmaker, a leprechaun and a touch of the fae Kate and Michael soon find themselves bumping in to each other on their trip to Ireland. This book made me laugh, cry a little, and made me want to smack both Michael and Kate upside the head. I mean who doesn’t roll their eyes at characters making silly mistakes, of course these silly mistakes are what give the book a realistic, human element. These are every day people making every day decisions and sometimes they mess up. Susan James is very good at writing a story that pulls you in and keeps you entertained every step of the way. I found myself not wanting to put this book down and read it in to the wee hours of the morning. This book is a lovely cross of contemporary with a touch of fantasy. I’d definitely pick up more books like this one from Ms. James. I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review
This is the first book by this Author that I have read, and I will be looking for more by her. Dr. Michael Walshe and Kate Carnahan's story has magic that Bradley Flynn, CEO of Abbey Public Relations and retired matchmaker Essie O’Callaghan will have to nudge to get these two together. Once I started this book I was not putting it down, a well written story with a very good storyline and pages that flowed smoothly from page to page. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Kate's newest novel is in revision, but she's stuck. The love interest in her novel was based on her ex-boyfriend and the love interest suffered from their break up. In hopes of finding new muse, she travels to Ireland where she meet Michael, a man who just might help her muse.
Being a KU book, I came into this expecting an easy, quick read that might help pull me out of my reading slump. But, I was at least hoping this could be a cute mindless romance. This did end up being mindless for me, but I never really got into the romance.
There was a touch of magic, which is really what kept bring Kate and Michael together, but this was one of things that was on the list of misses for me along with the romance in general. This is a shorter book, so it could have been I didn't get enough time with them to really enjoy what they had, but I just didn't feel the chemistry between them.
In all things, this is something small but it annoyed me. They played Mario Kart on Xbox. As I said, a small thing, but it was really annoying.
This was a quick, easy read, but overall I don't feel like it had enough substance for me to have really enjoyed it.
James’s debut novel, the time travel romance “Time and Forever,” made me a fan. So, I was excited to read “Irish Magic” and enjoyed every minute of it. The heroine’s wish for a real life man to inspire the fictional romance hero she’s writing sets the leprechaun community in motion granting her wish, one even escorting her from New York to ireland to ensure the job gets done. She and her hero have been badly burned by love, but can’t seem to stop running into each other on the Emerald Isle, where fairies and leprechauns definitely exist.
I loved the detail-rich journey to Ireland, which I’ve never had the pleasure of visiting. James’ writing is light and charming, just like the appealing characters and rom com plot. Highly recommend to contemporary romance fans who enjoy a sprinkle of fairy dust on their reading fare.
Is there any such thing as true love? What happens when you wish on a four leaf clover? Maybe it's fate for Kate and Michael after many chance meetings, but just maybe it's the luck of the Irish!
This is a fun rom-com by Susan B. James. I loved all the vivid descriptions of all of the locations in Ireland... they brought back so many fond memories of a trip I had taken many years ago.
Stephanie Rose did an incredible job with the narration. She fluidly switched between male and female characters as well as the different accents. Listening to this story was a very enjoyable experience.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Kate's and Michael's magical journey to Ireland. They both bear the emotional wounds of past relationships that have gone bad and have to decide if they will submit to the strong attraction they harbor for each other. If you ever wondered about what makes Ireland such a special place to visit, this book will provide you with the answers. This is a delightful story filled with charm and whimsy. I highly recommend it to everyone who enjoys a well-crafted love story and who has any curiosity about leprechauns.
A sweet and fun romance with some fantasy elements. Kate makes a wish on a four-leaf-clover and a half leprechaun Brandon is the one who has to make sure the wish comes true. Michael has just experienced a hard break-up and promises to accompany one of his patients to Ireland to get away from the fuss. Kate and Michael keep crossing paths in Ireland, meet a couple of ghosts, a matchmaker and some lively kids while traveling through the country. I enjoyed the Irish atmosphere and the warm humor. A good read.
Everyone needs a little magic and romance in their lives. This story doesn't disappoint. Add in a trip to Ireland and you can't help but have fun.
Kate is a writer who only believes in happily ever after in books. Michael is a doctor with his face on the tabloids with the actress who broke his heart. Neither trusts the other and tempers flare, but beneath the flames burns much more. A quick, joyful read.
Going in to this I knew I would not be taking it too seriously, I thought it would be a wild ride of a read and I was right! I can't say that there was anything I loved about this book, but at the same time I didn't hate anything either. Truthfully I think I will be forgetting most of this as soon as I talk about it with my fellow book club friends. If you are looking for a bonkers book with Leprechaun's, ghost and insta-love this is for you!
This was okay. I was a little disappointed. The synopsis sounded so good and the actual book was just okay. I listened on scribd and I did like they they used irish accented narrators. It was short. Maybe too short to really get me to feel connected to the characters..
Fluff. So much fluff. I love brain candy books like this where there's plot to go along with the squishy love feelings. I liked all of the magic and ghosts throughout and the lovely cast of characters. Highly recommend for those who love a little magic with their love story.
I loved this story. Bradley is a devious leprechaun who has a job to do. He needs Kate & Michael to fall in love. Their paths are twined together but circumstances keep interfering. A story full of magic, friendship & love. The author did a great job with the characters. I loved it. A must read.
Loved the magic and wonder in this book! The characters were delightful, and the descriptions of Ireland sounded amazing. Made me want to hop on a plane and explore.
