Interesting story about Rachel and her whorish friend. They are out at a bar having a little fun when things go horribly wrong. They are attacked by a group of men and Rachel's friend gets raped right in front of her. They are then rescued by two sexy vampires, Cole and Nathan, only to witness the death of their rapists.
Rachel, Pure Druid witch, and Pawn
Cole and Nathan discover that Rachel is a breeder. Basically a witch that is able to bear children for vampires. They immediately abduct her to take her back to their clan. Nathan wants to have his way with her, but Cole's protective instincts kick in and he is determined that she not be violated.
Nathan
Rachel is brought to the vampire clan and is determined to be a rare, pure blood, Druid Witch. She meets their leader, Alexander, and Alexander becomes obsessed with Rachel and can't keep his paws off of her. The plan is to mate Rachel publicly with four vampires of Alexander's choosing. Against her will. Cole keeps having to rescue her from being raped by Alexander and most of the other vampires.
The Evil Alexander, Vampire ruler
I'm all for a little forced seduction, but there was never anything sexy about these vamps and their behavior with Rachel. It was gratuitous and never added anything to the story. If anything, I got annoyed with it. If Rachel was supposed to be so precious, why were the vamps treating her like a vagina to be plundered against her will.
Rachel escapes her tormentors only to be abducted by the Rogue vampires. This was actually a good thing. The rogues believe that Druids should not be force mated, but should have the right to choose a mate. They also believe in mating one vampire per Druid, not three or four.
Zach, Leader of the Rogues
Zach is the leader of the Rogue Vampires and he has abducted Rachel. He's intent on seducing her into accepting him as her mate. The scenes between Rachel and Zach were pretty hot!! I really liked Zach a lot. Ironically, more so than Cole. Zach was compassionate and had personally experienced the pain of losing a loved one to violent rape from at the hands of a vampire.
Holly
A new Druid witch is found and it is obvious that she is Rachel's sister. They look that much alike. Upon meeting Zach, the connection is immediate. Holly is his true mate. But she is kidnapped by a group of vampires before they can consummate their relationship. I was beyond frustrated by this point because Zach had been with Holly for over 3 weeks by this point. Why would a "true mated" couple not have consummated their relationship yet? When they originally met, Holly was in his arms kissing him and about to take him publicly, yet I am to believe that they traveled together for 3 weeks and never did the deed? Unbelievable!!
And that was the trend of this book. I actually got tired of all of the abductions. There were so many abductions that I lost count. And why couldn't the good guys protect their women? They were always out numbered by other vamps that wanted to "breed" their women. This could have been prevented if Cole and Zach had just had sex with Rachel and Holly. That action alone would have made the women useless to other male vamps.
This series had potential but fell short of being great. The hottest sex scenes were in a shared dream between Rachel and her kidnappers, and Holly and her kidnappers. The author missed the mark here. The hottest sex should have been between the girls and their mates. I can't even recall their love scenes.
Now, even though I have complaints, I was unable to put these books down. I had to know what would happen next. That makes this a solid 3 star series from start to finish.
WHOA!! Honestly, I really don't know what I just read, but for some reason I just could not look away.
Okay, on the one hand I can see why so many are outraged by this 3 book volume set. But in all honesty, there are warning labels galore on Amazon & GR in the blurb, letting you know that if Rape, forced sex etc.. is not your forte when it comes to a PNR novel, then DON'T READ THIS! That being said, the way these things are presented weren't really that dark to me. I've read some things that would make this seem like some YA/PNR, but I can't say that there were moments here that didn't shock the heck out of me.
I think that this story/stories has a great premise. It was refreshing, the author's take here. The plot was interesting. It kept me intrigued. And I totally fell in love with Cole & Zach
But For the whole of the 3 books, the chicks kept getting kidnapped. I was beginning to believe that our Anti-Hero Vamps, truly suck in the "Rescuing & keeping my woman safe" department.
But finally in book 3 all was worked out. For the time being. It kept me curious enough to want to return for book 4, but book 3 does not end on a cliffy.
If you can handle dark, HIGHLY intense sexual situations; consensual and forced, if you can handle that or get through it in order to enjoy or remain focused on the plot, then I would recommend this read. Get this bundle set, cos the 3 novels aren't that long.
For fans of Black Dagger Brotherhood. That's what the book description said! A controversial adult tale of alpha vampire warriors who do not sparkle, claiming what is theirs for the survival of their species.
Can you blame me for loving the sound of that? Me! A huge Black Dagger Brotherhood fan?!
Well fuck a duck on a fucked up truck. Black Dagger Brotherhood my ass!
More like The Awful Rape Hood if you ask me!
Please excuse my English but I'm more than a bit tired and my filter is apparently broken. Not that I give a shit about it today. Especially not for this book here.
If I could rate it a -5 stars I would. Unfortunately however, GoodReads allows only for a minimum of 1. So that's what this book gets from me.
Because it is hands down the worst book I've read this year. Possibly in the last decade. And I've had my fair share of shitty reads I assure you.
It's rape erotica of the worst kind. And I'm not saying this just because of the rape. There are many books in which rape serves a purpose in the advancement of the plot. But this author dishes it here like candies at trick or treat. And not only that. The plot is badly set up, the dialogue cringeworthy and the wordbuilding sketchy to say the least. There's not even a single likable character among the cast and the chemistry is zilch. Quite possibly because 99% of the smut revolves around rape. Either getting raped or trying to escape rape. A lot of the sentences are absolutely illogical, just as the characters' behaviour and train of thought. And to say the book could do with a good edit is the understatement of the year.
Which brings me to the question. in the name of all that's holy! Why is this a bestseller?! With so many 5 star ratings?!
This review is based on Reapers, the first book of the series. Because I threw in the towel and called it quits half way into that. This one really sucks!
I am not going to do a lengthy review of this one. It was a freebie boxed set and it was ok. There are vampires running around in this one who are searching for Druids to help them breed. Apparently they can only have children with women of druid descent. They can smell it on them. When a druid gets close to a vampire, she acts like a cat in heat.
This one was a bit out there. The vamps can "wipe" minds clean and women are eager to be gang raped because of their biological imperative to reproduce. Not my favorite but not tragic either. I liked the writing style and I liked the characters but the books were short so there wasn't time for much character development.
If you're into rape, non-consensual gangbanging, and female subjection then these are the books for you.
I have soaked up paranormal romance and erotica for years and love how the male lead(s) cherish, care for, and empower the heroine of the story. These books do none of that. From practically the get-go the woman is kidnapped, frightened and sexually assaulted multiple times and that's just by the supposed "hero." The "villains" are even worse. No male in the story listens when a woman says No. They don't bargain or negotiate with her No, they simply ignore both it and everything else she has to say.
Then comes the sub-par writing. Run on sentences, awkward thesaurus adjectives, and missing information. Every other chapter or so there would be a run-on sentence that quite literally made no sense and I had to backtrack and piece together what the author meant to say. The book attempts to be written through a first-person perspective of the main characters but frequently dropped into third person and randomly had a paragraph from an alternate character's first person thrown in for good measure.
I, for one, feel dirty after reading this - and not in a good way. I’m pretty sure my stomach has shriveled into a raisin. If I had balls I’m sure they would have crawled back up inside my body and never want to come out again. All I want to do is either run down the streets shouting anti-male propaganda or write a scathing review. I think you can see which of those options I choose.
This just didn't work for me. The whole story revolved around debasing women. The WHOLE story. Even in the end, three jackholes who mentally raped and blood raped one of the characters get to have a go at her. Not cool...
Gah I haven't been on goodreads for a few months and when I finally do I realize which series I am to begin reviewing... The Druid series.. I have no words to describe this series... I have been staring at this screen for what would seem like an eternity (five minutes or so) and cannot find the words to describe my feelings for this book. Let me explain something though, when I have no words to describe my feelings.. Its not a good sign. This series to me is the equivalent of a 70s porn film complete with cheesy lines and music. Now don't get me wrong, I like a steamy novel but this, No words as I said before.
This one is hard to rate. It's decent. Yes there is a lot of sex, which I personally have no problem with, but it was so much sex, it completely overwhelmed the story. There is rape, which could be a trigger, so just a forewarning. After the sex, there wasn't much story left. Pretty boring really, which is so unlike this author. Her death series is superb. Each story was also really short. I read all three of these in an afternoon. I'm not sure if I will finish this series. If she was KU, I would, but don't think these short not very fulfilling books are worth the almost $5 she is asking for them.
I felt so many emotions as I read this book: happiness, sadness, fear, ecstasy, etc. Cole was a spectacular vampire. I liked him better than Zack. They each came from different places it had a different role. There was minimal gore. I was happy about that too. I did not understand the bonus book at the back. But I thoroughly enjoyed this story 🔥🔥🔥.5/5
Book 1: Reapers 2 stars Quick reading and interesting world building. There are a couple of rapes but they don't involve main characters. They are not romanticized nor are they (in my opinion) overly graphic. There is molestation of the main character & threat of rape; however between Rachel and the Hero Cole it is more along the lines of forced seduction (but not really because she's a Druid and he's a vampire so he is like sex on a stick with a side of crack to her).
Book 2: Bled 1 1/2 stars Rinse and repeat with another hero/main character Zach, although Rachel feels guilty because she has decided that Cole's the one for her - although I have absolutely no idea why. Not that there's anything wrong with Cole; simply that all the characters seem fairly undeveloped - so I have no idea why Cole would be a better choice than Zach. I also have no idea why Cole is so attracted to Rachel and determined to have her as his mate; beyond the obvious attraction to her Druid blood. A new heroine (Holly) is introduced who turns out to be Zach's "fated mate" so their attraction is instantaneous. The characters remain fairly one dimensional and undeveloped, so it doesn't feel like there is any connection between Zach and Holly aside from the one the reader is told they have. The stories seem to have a higher percentage of narrative as opposed to dialogue and the dialogue that is present isn't really "interactive" which does not help the lack of character development.
Book 3: Harvest 1 star Book 3 is the first in the series that reads like erotica. That isn't why I didn't like it; I just started to burn out on the series which revolved around an interesting premise that didn't quite pan out in execution due to lack of character development and didactic story telling ( we went here and we did this and then this happened and then that happened and then we prepared for the next thing to happen). The erotica did involve allot of sex between allot of vampires and our 2 Druid heroines but it was couched within the context of " unbelievably orgasmic dream sharing, mind rape"; so it didn't REALLY happen.
I just don't care enough about any of the characters to continue and the story isn't that compelling.
Ok, but really weird... Definitely not my cup of tea... Not only is it written poorly (bad grammar and punctuation, weird language and awkward dialogue...) but the plot itself is ridiculous!
Everyone wants to rape everyone - everyone is getting raped... It's not even that it's dark erotica, it's just silly and over the top !!!
No punches played whatsoever in this book. Out of the frying pan and into the fire; right from the beginning. I have no love for either of these species. What happened to choice? Free will? Anything in the way of equal rights. I'm not sure of my stance yet with this series. We shall see where it goes from here.
"Bled "
Holy utter malicious violence. For a superior species, these vampires act like heathens without discipline. Yet, they demand discipline at every turn. This story is utter stress and strain in living color. This is so unnerving at times I want to pull my hair out.
These Druid women should just be put behind bars and used as breeding hefers. Seriously, the Vampire feel completely entitled. I'm actually appalled at the continuous kidnapping, violence, sexual assault, and rape. Then there is the murdering which seems to be "OK"!
Ok, I'm not really appalled, just frustrated that these women aren't doing anything they know they should be doing to get out of this situation. Suicide seems like a very likely option.
If I were a Druid female in this situation, death would be my cowardly/logical way out. I certainly wouldn't be sitting around awaiting rescuing.
"Harvest"
Well alright then! This reminds me of another book. Stockholm Syndrome at its finest. I can honestly say I would never lay down my life at the hands of my kidnappers like this. I'd find some way to escape or die. My life is mine and not someone else's for any reason. Then these vampires, man what arrogant jerks! So "entitled", I think not!
Literally sickened me to read this series. If you want your main male characters to be the good guys, don't let them let other people rape the unwilling so they can get away from a situation. Gross. The only reason I finished is because I can't not finish a series once I start, no matter how shitty it is.
I feel like i lost a few brains cells reading this one. I understand its an adult book with adult content but its like reading a book that a twelve year old wrote. In all honesty its like the worst porno ever but in book form.
Originally read in 2013. Oh dear. This is 3 novellas in one collection.
CW: explicit on page rape - very unnecessary.
Poor writing, very poor work building, and why did it take til book 3 to really get to the plot?
Reapers (first novella): Why does Michelle have to get raped - twice - on page? Rachel needs to be fucked by “5 reapers” then mate with at least 2. Druid biology means they get wet and horny for vampires (basically body betrayal). Nothing makes sense. Cole wants Rachel just for himself. She is incredibly stupid and falls into a trap, is saved by Cole... until she isn’t. Side note: she’s so special but manages to sneak away so easily, no one guarding her?? (Consensual) Sex was light in this one, Cole/Nathan finger her/play with her nipples.
Bled (novella 2): Zach one of the rogues is actually a good guy (monogamous vamp), she’s bonding with him now too while still wanting Cole. Meanwhile Nathan stumbles across another Druid Holly who is Rachel’s younger sister and she’s Zach’s true mate. Why is there so much rape again? Or threat of it? Ugh it’s just distasteful as it doesn’t add anything! Sex was again light and mainly the (sort of) compelled Rachel enjoying Zach fingering and eating her out.
Harvest (novella 3): Alexander vamp leader is killed by his own guys cus he’s wacko. His ex-men want to win over the girls. Then it turns out Holly is the prophesied Queen - she will have 1 mate then breed with 3 to have daywalker vamp kids. Both Zach/Holly and Cole/Rachel mate. Sex is a bit heavier in this one (and not just the constant threat of rape): 4 of the vampire captives fuck Rachel one after another, each one’s cum in there for the next one... until Rachel wakes up embarrassed. Girls walk into vamp blood orgy (inc anal). Holly can’t resist Elias so he eats her out and fucks her until he reaches her virginity then pulls out (still cums in her). The other 3 then fuck her the same way aside from one who fucks her ass. Elias then eats all the cum from everyone out of her pussy... except this was also a dream! This is a side effect of drinking their blood. Now the prophesy is brought into play, things kinda fall into place. Don’t know why it took until the end of novella 3. The couples pair off and mate and have sex inc Fingering, eating her out, nipple play, cum eating, until right at the end where Holly is ready for her foursome with Josiah, Elias, and Andrew for breeding - that’s where it ends.
Essentially: non-monogamy is the order of the day for breeding! So not really that different where it started... got this a freebie but honestly don’t bother - and not just because it’s so rapey.
This book does need a trigger warning of rape. So if you have a problem with it I would suggest not reading. I thoroughly enjoyed it was totally different than any other vampire book I have read! To me technically it is not reverse harem. As the female main character it's only with multiple males one different time none of them have a mate but the one. The only time she has sex with multiples is actually in a dream which trust me freaked me out LOL because it was basically a form of rape. It's hard to explain without you reading the book though.
In the book women of druid blood can actually bear children to vampires. Vampire females are sterile. So basically reapers go out and for lack of a better word kidnap the females and then they are in a roundabout way forced to take multiple mates. Normally the males do not force themselves on the women it has something to do with her blood that makes them drawn to the vampires. However because of the two main females in the book being pure blood druid that causes vampires, but only certain vampires can breed with druids, to I have issues controlling themselves so basically it skirts rape.
The book to me has three sub books in it. The first one you meet your female main character Rachel and the male main character Cole. Her friend being raped her almost being raped and then kidnapped by the main character and his best friend. The head of the vampire kiss/coven having an obsession with her. Her escaping being re-captured by the male character and he decides to run away with her. Then meeting the rogues who is to me your third main character Zach.
The second sub book is time spent with Zach and Rachel. The rogues believe in one druid for one vampire. Which is basically what Cole being an alpha wanted. Cole in the middle of rescuing her Ends up with a fight with his head ex-coven leader with his best friend who found Rachel's sister Holly since they were both adopted neither knew about the other. Holly to me as your fourth main character and she is actually sex true mate. This causes all four of them to flee towards Seattle.
The third sub book finds you with the girls being kidnapped by Cole's old coven Reaper brothers. This is where the fringe of rape for your two main characters come in. Eventually Cole and Zach catch up and discover that Holly is no mere druid and her and her sister are the future for the new race of vampires.
Hahhahhaha I don't even know what to rate this. It's my first Omegaverse book and I'm officially into some weird shit. I need a designated day to read these so going forward I will dedicate a Wednesday for weird shit Wednesday. 😅
Honestly though this book was a train wreck of epic proportions... like one of those ones that just keeps going and going almost to the point of comedy, and then when you think the train is done falling it slams right onto a city bus that then falls into a lake and breaks the bridge taking the whole city along with it into the water. 😂 And you just can't stop it watching.
Or those stupid videos on Facebook where you watch it even though you know her spray painting water in a rainbow shape then dipping her hair in it is a fucking bad idea but you have to see how it turns out anyways. And then you watch it for like 8 minutes of your life and you were right it was awful but also not. Because you'll watch then next time it pops up with the dumb hacks.
This is the omegaverse for me. I'm not saying I'm above it. I'm not. I'm literally trash when it comes to my TBR list. I'm The Oscar the Grouch of my friends group. I'll read pretty much anything. This book right here is the prime example.
Idk how to explain this book and I don't know how to rate it because I mean her friend was literally getting raped for like the 3rd time in a night and home girl literally just left her. And then kept bouncing from vamp to vamp and the dreams... I was just as much of a mess as her. So I'm not going to review it but I will continue to read more of this crap because..... who knows?
I read this book from Google Play app. I know now WHY it's free.
If I could give this zero stars, I would. It's as if a horny teenager had a crush/fantasy/obsession for the schoolyard bully with a fascination with rape culture and subjugation of women in general, all wrapped up in a romanticized bow. Of course, that is only my opinion.
But the atrocities don't end there. The grammar. As in run-on and fragmented sentences and the changing of first person point of view to the third person all in ONE PAGE. I've had to reread a page just so I could figure out which character I was reading about (the main female character "speaks" in first person while everyone else is in third but sometimes you don't know right away which character is "talking"). Out of all the characters, only the main female is mostly fleshed out. The other characters, mostly male, are little more than cavemen with fangs with the personalities they've exhibited from this writer. As I've read other stories from this writer, this is a pattern of the way she writes. A lot of detail when it comes to the "sexy" parts, but when it comes to the flow of the story, it is so shortsighted and the characters so dull, I had come close to pouring bleach into my ears and mouth out of frustration and anger.
This book should be a shining example of how NOT to write a story.
no character depth, no romance and the only erotica unfolded rape
Thankfully this was free with kindle unlimited bc it was very disappointing. I’m still trying to figure out what I read and what the plot was. There was no character depth or development. There were soooo many abductions that it was pretty much the entirety of the book…MC gets abducted, manhandled, molested threatened as a ‘breeder’ and then once again abducted and it all happens again with another group of vampires, but just add in a second Druid/breeder and ‘Dream Share’ raped around the 4th or 5th abduction and you have the story. The MC chooses one vampire to be with, but there is so little character development that I have no idea why she chose him over the rest. There is absolutely no romance and the only erotica involves the rape scenes. The MC is vehemently against being passed around as the the ‘breeder’ through the entire book, but in the end when it is her 19yo virgin sister, another Druid/breeder, who is prophesied to be passed around to create the new race, the MC is all for it and encouraging her sister to just go with it. SMH
The idea was good. Vampires looking for ways to populate them self with Druids women. While the women, by their biological instinct, couldn't resist the vampire pull to bond with them.
But the execution was lacking. First thing that gave me cringe was when the supposed to be the main male and his friend let a human woman, the main female character, got rap3. I don't care the paranormal reason the author used, but fact still there. Both of this capable vampires let that woman to be rap3. While they can easily riped the rap1St throat.
Then, it's all about vampires lusting over her Druids purenest. And how she can't do nothing to resist all those wanna be rap1St.
I thought it's going to get good with the plot line. Afterall the editor reviewer claimed every JR Ward's BDB series would love this series 🙄 Yeah I was wrong.
At the end, I should have known when a book mention other book as barometer, it's usually not come close.
I listen book 1 and 2 and couldn't go any further. The story itself had potential, a world where vampires lurks in the shadows, manipulating humans and can only reproduce with druid blooded women, sounds good right? But the execution was really poor, this is more a erotic novel than a romance.
Everyone wants to f*ck Rachel, EVERYONE. She is like a walking v*gina for vampires. So we have almost no story, just she running from one bad vampire to another and desperate to be f*ck by them because it's in her DNA.
Maybe the story will become better, but it didn't hold me enough to continue. Specially because the narration was quite bad. Some pauses in the wrong places, the quality of the audio was not good, her voice was a little monotone. She does different voices for each characters, but they weren't very pleasant, unfortunately.
Repeated rape is not my idea of a story for a romance novel.
This book was listed under paranormal romance and vampire romance .This book instead of " romance" is full of cruel rape, frequently used throughout the story. The victim ends up in a romantic relationship with her abuser(s)? These characters in this book are not heroines and heroes, they are victims and sexual predators. Not for me at all. Violence should never be confused with love .The only reason I gave two stars was that it was well written. Had the description listed this book properly as a Dark Story and had I liked this type of book perhaps I would have gave a higher rating. As it is this story truly upset me. Now I will reading all descriptions of a book more thoroughly.
Loved the novel, but most of the time i was confused reading it. Wondering just who the novel was about? As well as what was going on as it shifted from one person to the another with out mentioning names and places. I also felt it was wrong that the main female character Rachel was pushed aside at one of the most important parts in this novel, for her sister Holly! Even Cole i felt was pushed aside for Zach. Whilst the novel is based on a lot of characters, having two main characters is normally the way to go, but not in this case. Also it felt like a there was a lot of parts to it.. Like three novels in one. The novel just seems out of whack even though its a great plot with characters i loved.
I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title.
Book 1 Reaper A veritable tug of war between vampires, vampire rogues and another group, in pursuit of a young girl, that hadn't known her biological parents, was unaware of her true ancestry.
Book 2 Bled
Rachel and Zack, of the Rogue has a tremulous beginning, Cole feels that there is another Druid that could make his life complete. However, it costs Nathan's life, to find the one Cole immediately bonds to. Alexander isn't happy!
Book 3 Harvest
A case of "out of the frying pan" occurs when the women are hunted, escape, but captured but others that still wish to do them harm. However, a prophecy is brought up, which may help explain what may be cause for enemies to unite.
I don't know how or when I picked this book up. It's just been sitting in my library. I was browsing my library and clicked it and wow, I am so glad I did. This was so freaking hot. Not a lot of us want to admit that noncon does it for us but I cannot deny those feelings from this book. This author pulled it out of that dark secret box so hard and fast they deserve a standing ovation and every word and more of this review and confession. Who even cares it has a great story with a thrill ride attached with hot alpha vamps and you don't have to pick only one!
The plot had an interesting concept and I was looking forward to see how it played out. However, within the first 3 chapters there was an unnecessary gang rape that never factored into the plot ever again. I understand the trigger warnings however, this scene had no consequences on the plot and felt like it was done for pure shock factor. There were later gang rape scenes that were loopholed and felt like a cop out. Why make me read that just to pull the "ha got ya it was fake" card not once but twice? Also, not sure how I feel about the main character not really being the main character. It had all the potential to be a great book but fell rather meh. 3.02 stars
I've read and enjoyed a wide variety of romance genres: unredeemable bad boy, mafia, CNC, captive, enemies to lovers, birth control tampering...a lot. This book, well, this book I found disturbing. This book is nothing but rape after rape after rape. IF, and I do mean IF, you can manage to get past that, the storyline is very underexplained, and there are rapid and unexpected changes in POV. I don't like to leave harsh reviews, so I'll stop here, but it is very unlikely I will read more of this series and it will be a stretch to imagine I might read more from this author.
