Wesleigh has spent her life haunted by two the scars left by her mother’s abuse and the mystery of her baby sister’s disappearance.
Fourteen years ago, Wesleigh’s mother was arrested, leaving behind nothing but trauma—and a heart-wrenching mystery. Her baby sister had vanished without a trace. Since that day, Wesleigh has tried to uncover the truth about her sister’s disappearance.
But answers don’t come easy. As Wesleigh fights to keep her excruciating past at bay, she accidentally reunites with her childhood best friend, Carmiya, and her twin brother, Carmelo—her first and only love. Through their love, Wesleigh begins to heal and finds strength in the family she thought she’d never have.
Wesleigh’s journey reminds readers that, even in the worst circumstances, love can be found in the most unexpected places.
Ma'am, you warned us! However, being a fan of your many reads, I jumped right in anyway. After the first chapter, I was already angry, scared, and heartbroken for Wesleigh and all that she suffered. How could a mother hate her child this much? Just hurt her recklessly with no remorse! 🤬 Caring for her baby sister Hayleigh, her friendship with Carmiya and the brewing relationship with Carmiya's twin, Carmelo, was the only saving grace in her life. At the Barlowe home she experienced love and compassion, things that she never had in her own home. Then in the blink of an eye, her life is changed forever. Her evil mother is arrested for all the heinous things she did to her, but where is Hayleigh?
Wesleigh will stop at nothing to find her sister, as she spends years looking for her to no avail. She continues to hear her sister's cries years after her disappearance. My sister needs me. Why won't anyone believe me? Help me? 💔 At this point, I am just a mess. This poor young woman has gone through so much alone, and I wonder how much more she can take. Then she literally bumps into her old friend Carmiya, and she becomes the lifeline she didn't know she needed.
While Wesleigh is in therapy, we learn more of the abuse she suffered. I am in tears and wanting to find Marleigh (her egg donor) myself!! 😤 As Wesleigh peels back the layers of her trauma, and repressed memories return to her, the pieces begin to fall into place. She is gutted as realization comes to her. Me too! 🥹😢 Thank God she had Dr. Lance and the Barlowe family to help her with continued healing. She is doing better; however, she needs to speak to her mother in jail, for the closure to move on with her life.
That one chapter flipped this whole story on its head, you hear me! Nothing could have prepared me for the things that Marleigh divulged to Wesleigh. Like what?? 🤯 Marleigh's behaviors made sense to me now, but I still had not an ounce of empathy for her ass! 🤬 That heifer was still evil and needed to be handled! 😤 Then to find out that she...... and Wesleigh...... I am done!! 👀 This was an amazing read that dragged my poor little emotions to hell and back! Whew!! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I think it did Wesleigh a great disservice the way the ending played out. I'm glad she had Carmelo and his family. The person who gave birth to her was such a raggedy piece of shit. It would of been nice if she had got shanked in prison. And if the truth was really found out.
The way this story addressed trauma and mental illness was sad but beautiful at the same time! Mental illness is so real at this time.
Dealing with childhood trauma, mental illness and not being accepted by the person who birth you is what Wesleigh experienced! I don’t wish that on NO one. Wesleigh mother Marleigh had me HOT! Like shouldn’t no child go through what Wes went through. She went through so much drama to where she had an imaginary friend name Hayleigh (so they say)! Wes only had 2 friends Camriya and Carmelo (twins) and their mother Mrs. Barlowe! The Barlowe loved Wes like no other, but because is trauma she couldn’t accept their love as she didn’t know what love is! Wes went through a lot as a child that NO child should endure!
Let’s talk about the love she received from the Carmelo!Babe, when I say Melo loved him some Wes, that man loved him some her. Regardless of the time apart and him having a child but someone, this man couldn’t ever be in love with someone of it wasn’t Wesleigh! He spent his life being in love with her and not knowing of he’ll ever see her again! But when he does, he tells her and shows her that he going to be there for her and love her for the test of their lives and he does just that!
Miya, she didn’t have friends or made new friends after what happened with Wes. To her, her only friend was Wes. The mental issues both Miya went through after the truth came out about Wes was painful. She and Melo lost apart of themselves after losing contact. Oh but a freak accidents reunited the friends back together and provided them with the love they both needed in different ways!
The love that the Barlowe family, all the way down to the kids showed Wes was like no other and I loved that for her!
Marleigh, the unfit mother of Wes. It’s didn’t bother her the hurt and pain she placed on her daughter! Due to her own childhood trauma is the reasoning for what she did to her own! Even after being arrested for the abuse she did care and felt it was all justified! She found happiness in knowing she’s the cause for Wes pain! But when she learns that Wes is becoming stronger, living a good life and most importantly being loved, she tried to hit below the belt and my girl Wes didn’t allow it to take her down. Oh but to learn the truth about was Marleigh did had me beyond mad!
This story will tug at all your heart strings and your mental but the ending will definitely leave you smiling and happy for Wes!! Enjoyed this read regardless of the emotions!!!
Yeah… this one hurt. When My Soul Cries is heavy in a very real way, and I knew early on this wasn’t going to be a casual read. It’s the kind of book that pulls you in quietly and then just keeps stacking emotion on top of emotion.
Wesleigh goes through entirely too much, and it never feels overdone or unrealistic. It just feels sad and unfair, which honestly made it harder to read. I found myself stopping a few times just to sit with what she was dealing with. This story does not rush her trauma or magically fix it, and I appreciated that.
What really got me was the love she eventually receives. The people who show up for her, protect her, and refuse to give up on her felt like a breath of fresh air in such a painful story. The Barlowe family especially had my heart because they gave her the kind of care she should’ve had all along.
This book isn’t an easy read and it’s definitely not light, but it’s meaningful. It’s about pain, healing, and finding people who choose you even when things are messy. I finished it emotionally drained but also weirdly comforted, which feels like a hard balance to pull off. Chapter 19 had me blank staring at the wall. This is a book that I will think about for a long time to come.
Read the trigger warnings, but if you can handle it, this story is absolutely worth the emotional ride. So good!
I don't know how to explain this book other than to say it's heavy, but it has an amazing love story underneath all of the heaviness. Wesleigh's egg donor was hands down one of the worst women I have read about. She really took that girl through it. Once her side of the story was revealed, I felt just a smidgen of sympathy for her, but not much.
I was so glad when she reconnected with the Barlowes. The way they all loved on her as if no time passed was exactly what she needed. Her and Mello finally getting to have their moment made my heart smile. Once Mello got his Leigh Leigh back, he wasn't letting up. The way he affirmed her and was in her corner was exactly what she needed.
I don't know how to feel about the Hayleigh situation. I think how she dealt with it is more than likely the best outcome. I don't know if she would've been able to handle the truth if it was revealed. If you read this one, read the triggers as it may be difficult for some readers.
I cant even get my thoughts together right now. However, i do know that im invested in Cyn’s whole catalog now. This book here is not for the weak. Poor Wesleigh, i just wanna hug her and love on her! All that time Marleigh and Ms. Daphne played in that girl face and literally drove her crazy when all along Wes really did have a sister! Wheeewww chile, i want my one with Daphne cause in my eyes, she is worse than that moma! She knew Hayleigh existed at one point in life then she helped cover it up and aint said not one word but continued to let Wes think she was delusional! Cyn, baby i gotta just sit with this book before i can move on to something else!
First book by this author but I am so happy I picked this one up. Tears will definitely be shed but for so many reasons. Joy, sadness and anger to name a few. Two of the bitches in this book needed to be dealt with urban romance book style if you catch my drift 😒🤬🤷🏾♀️. A unique approach to such a tragic topic. The skill level to tackle abuse, love, mental health and community while developing a story deserves 5 stars. This is definitely a story that will stay with you for days or weeks after but a smile should appear nevertheless.
This was a heart-wrenching story of a woman who is grieving and still dealing with the trauma of her childhood. Wesleigh needs love and she finds it in an untraditional found family, by way of her long lost best friend and her family. Carmelo wasn’t playing about Wesleigh AT ALL. Things moved rather quickly and I wish the book was longer for development but overall, a good read. I love when people have pets in books. Im Glad the need for therapy was addressed. Great plot twist.
There were a lot of flashbacks but they were essential to the story.
Marleigh has to be the worst mother ever. With that being said make sure you read the trigger warnings! For what Wesliegh went through in her life she in my eyes ended up as normal as she could have been through it all. I love the way the Barlowe family loved on her. The book is written well the plot was great. This book is listed as a romance book, and while there is a love story in the midst, this book was really about Marleigh overcoming her trauma and realizing she isn’t alone in the world. If you are looking for a happy romance novel this isn’t it!
This book definitely took me through every emotion known to man. Wesleigh experienced so much trauma emotionally and physically. No child deserves that. The Barlowe family really gave our good sis the love she deserved from all aspects. This book was so well written that ending had me on the mf floor okay!
Never in my life would I have thought that Wesleigh was crazy and I’m glad I was right. I’m glad I had the love a mother who treasured me. I cried a lot reading this book. I would like to say the author a great imagination, but this story is true for so many people.
When I tell you I could have never predicted that ending, I could have never. Very well written. The story amazing. The way the Barlowe family loves on Wesleigh was unmatched. So much more I want to say but don’t want to give up too much. Can’t wait to see whats next
Now this is one heck of a psychological thriller. Whew. Those last three chapters sealed everything that I was thinking. Poor Wes. She endured to too much, and I’m not sure if knowing would have made it better. Still though. Wow
I very moving heart ❤️ wrenching story 💔 my emotions were all over the place beautiful amazing 👏🏾 written I loved how Melo loved her and support her through the trauma she was went through
Prepare for your emotions to be all over the place. This story has me wanting to ask the author-- are you good? I mean, she either has a helluva imagination or a helluva back story or combination of. Either way, READ IT, but be prepared...
