BRITANNICA ALL NEW KIDS' ENCYCLOPEDIA is a thrilling collection of knowledge. The encyclopedia is organized into different sections, starting with the universe, going into Earth, matter, life, humans, human history, and traveling into today and tomorrow. It is fully illustrated throughout.
What I loved: This is such an incredible collection of information for curious kids! The book covers an amazing breadth of topics and information, all written in an approachable way and fully illustrated with a great use of color, photographs, and art. Each page includes at least one, but usually several, images to help support the topic, along with interesting facts, pull-outs, and engaging paragraphs. Information is displayed in a variety of ways, including timelines, facts, and boxes with plenty of color and images along the way.
The knowledge check quizzes at the end of each section added to the fun, allowing children to test what they've learned with multiple choice (answers at the bottom). Backmatter of a glossary and index is very helpful in furthering understanding and finding what you are looking for.
The future section was a particular favorite, inviting children to explore and consider what things may look like as the world continues to grow and change. Curious readers will love thinking about the ways that they may contribute or be part of the expanding knowledge of the future. The book really encourages readers to think critically and consider what we don't yet know along the way.
Final verdict: BRITANNICA ALL NEW KIDS' ENCYCLOPEDIA is a thrilling collection of knowledge that engages curious readers in exploring the world around them, while also considering all the things left to learn! This would make a great gift for children who love to learn.
Please note that I received an ARC. All opinions are my own.
The Britannica All New Kids’ Encyclopedia is the book of the curious child’s dreams. Reminiscent of Weird But True books with the fun graphics and photographs, this book is a must for kids who enjoy fact books. The sheer vastness of topics and categories is fascinating. The book is large and thick, though not intimidating, with an enticing cover featuring a lively mix of fonts, photographs and cartoon drawings. The book is divided into sections, so kids with specific interests will easily find their categories. Each section also features a quiz at the end. Perhaps the most exciting section is Chapter 8, “Today & Tomorrow”, which contains many topics buzzing in curious minds currently: artificial intelligence, renewable energy and the mega-rich. The book is color-coded by section, with page numbers matching the chapter designation, which will help readers find content when using the index. There is a robust mix of photographs (Stonehenge, animals, rocks and minerals) and graphs, and illustrations. The font is clear and consistent throughout, so while the book evokes a feeling of fun, it is well formatted and not distracting. The book contains a glossary, source notes, and an index for easy searching as well. All of the material is presented in a way that is simple, yet engaging, making this book accessible for the youngest readers to older kids.
