The last thing he needs is a cheerful baker as a neighbor. But she might just be able to warm up his icy heart.
This is the worst time possible for my oven to break.
Okay, so maybe it was a bad idea, preparing for a baking competition in a cabin up in the mountains. But now that I'm here, I need my oven to work.
I have no idea how to repair a broken oven, but the hunky neighbor next door might. I head over and knock, and much to my surprise, he grabs his toolbox and gets to work.
In the process, I find there's a lot more to this surly, unfriendly guy than meets the eye.

Sawyer is a hunky, broody, grumpy, ex-military man who lives in the cabin next door. When her oven dies, she goes to Sawyer for help. He is taken with the curvy ray of sunshine. But what happens when she has to leave? These two had great chemistry, and the ending was so happy after some minor angst.

Hailey rented a cabin where she could prepare for the competition that hopefully would start her career as a baker. And the scenery is breathtaking-- especially when he chops wood. Her next-door neighbor is definitely sigh-worthy. Anyway, the contest baking would be on-site, but the rules said they needed to bring sample baked treats for the judges, at least 100 cookies! But when she went to check on her cookies, the oven had gone dark and the cookies were inedible. She had no idea how to fix an oven. Could her neighbor take a look at it? He didn’t really seem very friendly and seemed to ignore her when she waved or said good morning. Maybe the plate of cookies she had already baked would loosen up his attitude? Unfortunately, he just stared at her like she was a fly in his soup. So she asked him outright for help. Telling her she might need an electrician, he grabbed his toolbox to follow her to her oven.
Sawyer normally wouldn’t waste time on a job, but he found himself deliberately going slow on the job to spend more time with his chatterbox neighbor he had been ignoring. When she finally got quiet, he realized she must have asked him a question. Her constant chattering had been background noise that calmed him. He still remembered one of the cookies on the plate that said “I’m yours” and his thoughts had gotten away with him. Had she been flirting? Doubtful! But as she got comfortable with him, she told him more about herself and he wanted to help her with whatever was troubling her. He had endured his own challenges in the military, but he got through it. They stood close and he had expected his usual reaction near a woman he became attracted to -- but instead of the panic, he felt excitement. She insisted he have dinner with her later as a thank you. She again offered him cookies, and he selected “Be Mine” as if sending her a message. But he knew he had to guard his heart… even though with this woman, he didn’t feel that way. Would the two of them end up falling in love? Would each find their dream come true in each other? Or would she have to return home if she lost the competition and had to continue living above her parents’ garage?
Hailey has rented a cabin in the woods outside of Hope Peak to prepare for the national baking contest she's entered. She'd much prefer to watch the sexy next-door neighbor trim trees or chop wood, but she has over a hundred cookies to bake and decorate as samples for the judges.
Sawyer owns the cabin next door to Hailey's rental. After eight years in the Army, he was hit in the hip by friendly fire and was discharged. Right now he's not sure what to do with his life.
When her oven suddenly breaks down, she appeals to Sawyer for help. She'd taken a plate of cookies with her, but maybe cookies decorated with "Be Mine," "Cutie Pie," and."I’m yours" wasn't the best choice. But he does agree to take a look at it, and he's successful at fixing it. As a thank-you, she invites him to dinner.
After a spectacular evening together, everything falls apart the very next day. Both are accustomed to pushing others away before it happens to them. By the time Sawyer goes over to talk to her, she's gone. He realizes that not only doesn't he have her phone number; he doesn't even know her last name! But he remembers the name of the town where the contest is being held. How many Seduction Summit towns can there be?

Hailey is making cookies in between batches she's watching her next door neighbor chop down a tree. When she turns back to the drive she discovered it died. She plates cookies to bribe her neighbor into giving the oven. Sawyer opens his door to the woman next door with a plate of cookies. Then she asks him for help. He goes over. She's heading to Seduction Summit for a baking contest. Sawyer is a very and a grouchy one. He's also a man of few words. He helps her with the oven and gets invited to dinner. He realizes that he feels ok by her which is unusual. They are in Montana and she'll be heading to North Carolina. She's going to win the baking contest with a prize of $50,000. Then she can open her own bakery in Hope Peak. Someone in the night she goes to his cabin. She wants him as her first the next day he heads to town to get lunch supplies and she goes back to her cabin. Unfortunately when he doesn't come over she gets shy and accuses him off being done with her. He pouts and avoids her. When he finally gets his head on straight he goes next door to find she's gone. More he had to find her. Did he remember where she's heading? Will he find her? A cute story centering on a town in NORTH Carolina and the legacy it's making for couples.

I really love a good multi-author series, and "My Brooding Valentine" by Lilah Hart is the eighth book in the Hope Peak Valentine’s Day series. Hailey and Sawyer’s instalove novella is definitely a sweet treat.
Hailey has rented a cabin for the weekend to prepare for a baking competition she wants to win. However, her oven isn't working, so she seeks the help of her grumpy yet very attractive neighbor, Sawyer. After leaving the military, Sawyer moved to the mountains and struggles to trust women due to past heartbreak. But the moment he sees Hailey, he finds himself wanting to sample her cookies in more ways than one. Their night of intense passion leads to questions about how they should move forward in their relationship, especially since Hailey has to leave for the competition the next day.
What I love about instalove short stories is that they’re so well-written and fast-paced, making them perfect for a quick read in one sitting. They always leave you craving more! And I absolutely loved the ending, where Lilah Hart takes us back to the Seduction Summit, which is another fantastic series. Enjoy the read!

Hailey & Sawyer, neighbors out in cabins in the woods of Montana. Hailey, a want to be Baker getting away from her normal routine to practice for a baking competition in Seduction Summit North Carolina. The cabin is really nice and simple and sweet and she’s enjoying it until the oven stops working loses power and she doesn’t know what to do. She’s been watching her neighbor from the window chopping wood outside his cabin and decides she’s going to ask him for help since they’re out in the middle of nowhere and she’s not sure how long I’ll take for the landlord of the current cabin she’s in would take to help. The first meeting is tense but he agrees to help her even though he’s a loner and doesn’t want to be around people. He is super quiet never saying anything while he’s helping her, he fixes the oven and she wants to pay him back so she invites in for dinner and the attraction is even more noticeable between the two of them can keep their minds off the other. Baking competition and Sawyer story has a happy ending for both.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day! The city of Hope Peak is the focus of this Valentine’s Day series featuring the work of fourteen different authors, including My Brooding Valentine, by the talented Lilah Hart.
Hailey was the all-American girl that decided to get away and rent a cabin before the big baking competition in Seduction Summit. Hailey was in the middle of baking cookies for the contest when the oven died. Desperate to have the oven fixed, Hailey went next door, cookies in hand, to ask the hunky guy chopping wood for help. My favorite line in the book was “I could stand here all day and watch him chop tree limbs with those giant scissors.”
I can’t help but like the work of Lilah Hart and the worlds she creates. This book includes the Seduction Summit Lodge and the baking contest of another series, and it is nice to see something familiar. Hart writes steamy plots between virgin heroines and older mountain men, told in a lighthearted manner and sprinkled with funny moments. This delightful, short, spicy story will help you get into the Valentine’s Day spirit.

Lilah Hart delivers a sweet and steamy escape in "My Brooding Valentine", a perfect read for fans of short, over-the-top romantic novellas. The story follows a determined baker stranded in the mountains with a broken oven and an icy neighbor who reluctantly comes to her rescue. What begins as a simple act of neighborly kindness soon turns into a heartwarming tale of unexpected love, complete with a charming age-gap dynamic and plenty of chemistry.
The heroine’s cheerful resilience contrasts beautifully with the grumpy, guarded hero, creating a dynamic that’s both endearing and fiery. Hart packs a lot of emotion and steam into this quick 90-minute read, making it ideal for a cozy evening.
If you’re looking for a light, feel-good Valentine's story with a dash of heat, "My Brooding Valentine" is sure to satisfy.

I always get a good laugh and a heart strings tug when I read Lilah's books. She knows how to pull you in and want to ask for like WAYYYY more pages!!!
Hailey is in the local baking competition and needed a quiet place to chill and bake. She didn't expect to get thoroughly distracted from the grumpy mountain man next door, OR to end up needing his help when her oven dies.
I like how Hailey truly comes across at the sunshine, while Sawyer is about as closed off as you can get, trying to be......gentlemanly. Hailey shows him maybe with the right person he can be the lighter, happier man he never thought he could be.
Yes it does happen insta-fast, but its insta-rewarding too!!! These two yin and yang really compliment each other, and sometimes we need that. We need someone who will support us, and make us push ourselves to be better.
Its the hot, spicy. heart melting vibes we all want for Valentine's Day.
Hailey had rented a cabin in Hope Peak so she could bake and prepare for the baking competition in Seduction Summit. But she was in the middle of a batch of cookies when the oven stopped working! What was she going to do? Well, ask her hot neighbor for help, of course! She can't stop looking at him out the window, anyway. The last thing Sawyer wanted to do was listen to his neighbor talk nonstop while he looked at her oven, but it seemed to calm him. And she was pretty cute. Not to mention all sorts of curvy. When she offered to make him dinner as a thank you, he couldn't say no. And he couldn't get her off of his mind. She said she was going to Seduction Summit for a baking competition. What if she never came back? This was a cute little instalove story, with a talkative baker and the broody mountain man who would follow her anywhere.

In My Brooding Valentine, we first meet Hailey, a budding baker hoping to own her own shop and be successful in the culinary world one day. She rents a cabin in the mountains to have a quiet and focused space for baking and preparing for a cooking challenge. Not just any challenge-THE cookie challenge that could change the course of her life, IF she wins. She soon discovers this may not have been the best of plans when she realizes that her oven is broken. Miles away from town and desperate, she seeks the help of her grumpy yet sexy next door neighbor, Sawyer. Not only does he prove to be more than capable of fixing her oven, but he’s also capable of taking care of her too. In more ways than one. This novella is standalone, spicy, and includes a HEA. I recommend for mature audiences only due to sexual content. I received this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Hailey (h) came to a remote Montana cabin for one reason—to perfect her cookies for a high-stakes baking competition. But when Hailey needs some heat, she’s forced to ask her brooding, ex-military neighbor, Sawyer (H), for help. He’s gruff, distant, and completely uninterested in small talk… but he’s also impossibly attractive. Sparks fly, cookies are exchanged, and one unexpected night changes everything. But when fear and misunderstandings get in the way, Hailey is unsure where she stands with a man who doesn’t do relationships. Sawyer has to convince Hailey that their connection is more than just a half-baked winter fling. Steamy instalove, age gap, grumpy sunshine, mountain man romance, exploring second chances, trusting your heart, and finding love in unexpected places.
He's reclusive, grumpy and brooding but he's not stupid...he knows the second he sees Hailey that life as he knows it has ended. She's his opposite chatty, sweet, innocent and hopeful but his heart doesn't care, she is his perfect woman and even when his head takes control and messes up, his heart tells him to fight for her. For them. For the future he didn't know he was looking for, but now can't live without. Sawyer may be a little grumpy but he is still a really great guy, he goes out of his way to help, takes the time to worship Hailey and ensure both body and mind are ready for more. And he admits when he is wrong too - a unicorn of a guy! A sweet read on Kindle Unlimited.
I loved My Brooding Valentine Hope Peak Valentine's Day. Hailey was trying to get her cookies done in time for the cooking competition when her oven died. She asks her neighbor Sawyer if he can help, he’s been kinda grumpy since she’s been here but maybe a cookie will help. Sawyer doesn’t like to talk much and he barely tolerates people but he likes Hailey. He doesn’t even mind that she talks a lot, it smooths him. When she wants to be with him he needs it to be more than a one time thing and she’s all for that. I loved the story and the characters. A little grumpy and a little sunshine. I would definitely recommend this book and the series.

This story is related to those in the Seduction Summit series, and it is a complete stand alone. The main characters are realistic and relateable, complimenting the sweet and steamy storyline. Hailey determined, and desperate. She has her dreams set on having her own bakery, but first she has to get to baking!! Sawyer, her temporary neighbor, loves his solitude and isn't prepared for his new temporary neighbor. Finding himself doing things he wouldn't normally entertain, they end up spending time getting to know eachother. The chemistry and attraction between them is more than intense, and it leaves them both reeling. Will overthrowing and misunderstandings stand in the way of a possible HEA?
I voluntarily reviewed a gift copy of this book. Happy Reading Y'all 📚
Hailey is in Hope Peak preparing for a baking competition in Seduction Summit Lodge, but her oven stops working and desperate, she asks the hot next door neighbor for help. Thankfully Sawyer is quite the handyman and manages to resurrect the oven, and to thank him Hailey makes him lasagne.
I really enjoyed this insta-love story. It was short and entertaining, and well-written so it flows very easily. The characters, as with many of the author's books, are very likeable and also all had a lot of chemistry.
This story is set in the author's Seduction Summit world, which I have already read a few stories from and loved them. So if you enjoyed this story do read the others too!.

This was a sweet Mountain man romance with a younger virgin baker and a slightly older ex military grumpy mountain man. A broken oven in her mountain retreat cabin while Hailey is trying to prep cookies for a big competition has Hailey running next door to try to tempt her hot grumpy mountain man neighbor into fixing her oven for her. A little lasagna later and sparks are flying🥰. Spice was mild. Story was sweet. Minimal angst. Very well written and edited. Good short read.

This is part of the multi author “Hope Peak Valentine’s Day” series but can be read as a standalone. Hailey needs help when the oven she needs to prepare for a baking competition breaks, and the only person nearby is the guy in the cabin next door, Sawyer. Can they creates sparks for more than just the oven? Recommended for readers looking for a short, steamy instalove story about taking a chance, vulnerability and going after what you want.

Hailey was staying at a cabin to do her cooking prep before her baking competition at Seduction Summit Lodge. She was isolated except for the one other cabin on this road and that was owned by a strong guy who she figured could fix the stupid stove in hers. Having been in the military he knew a bunch of things. Sawyer felt that Hailey was really hot and he helped her out so she made him lasagna. They talk a lot while they eat and then some. But sometime while she is there she starts hoping that she would find her future there at Hope Peak because of Sawyer. There are some misunderstandings, but everything works out surprisingly and romantically at Seduction Summit Lodge. It is totally steamy and a really fun read.

My Brooding Valentine by Lilah Hart is an insta-love delight. This over the top, age-gap, short read romance is just the right reading break during your day. Hailey (the aspiring baker) and Sawyer (the Mountain man, retired military) have an instant connection from the start. I love this short read and that is packed with entertaining characters, romance, steam, and HEA. My Brooding Valentine is part of the Hope Peak Valentine’s Day series but can be read as a standalone.

This is another great addition to the series but I love how the author tied it into one of her existing series, Seduction Summit, making this super fun for me ;) Hailey and Sawyer meet and while they hit it off, they're both so used to pushing people away before they get pushed that they axed their relationship before it could gain any real momentum. Thankfully, despite the lack of info Sawyer has about Hailey, he did remember where she was going for her baking contest and managed to get his HEA. I loved the humour and heat in this one and look forward to what's next by this author :D
