Tripped Up: Head Over Heels for the Brooding Brawler

Rate this book
Wyatt Whitney is an asshole of epic proportions, and not just because I slept with him a decade ago.

I’ve come to Austin for a fresh start after an epically awful breakup. The last thing I want is for my best friend to ask her hockey superstar brother to look out for me. It’s made worse by the fact that she has no idea we hooked up, or that he clearly doesn’t remember me. Whenever we’ve been in the same room, he acts like he has no idea who I am. Guess what my ex said must be true: I’m boring and bad in bed.

The brooding brawler is angry and hurt since being traded days after winning the Cup last season. The last thing he wants is to babysit me, and he’s not shy about keeping it a secret.

When I need a date for the symphony’s fall fundraising gala, I’m surprised when he sweeps in to rescue me, showing off to all of my coworkers. And he doesn’t even make any snarky comments!

Could the Wyatt Whitney I’ve hated all these years actually be a decent human being? Worse — could I actually be falling for him, all over again?

Yes Yes Yes, give me 5 more please !!! I never downloaded a bonus chapter so quickly! And what do you mean I have to wait until spring of 2026 to find out how Bex and Nick know each other? 😭😭😭.

This was my first Allie book, but I already know I am about to dive in in all of her other series 😇.

This is book 4 on the Austin Aces Hockey series and follows Elsy and Wyatt story.

I was hooked since page one. It was well written, was sweet, the banter between all the characters was great, and it actually makes you feel apart from their little friends group.

Highly recommend 👌.

Tripped Up is a fantastic second chance romance. Elsy and Wyatt hooked up 13 years ago when they were 19, he was a hotshot rookie hockey player trying to fit in, so he didn't defend her or hai feelings when his teammates were rude to her the next day. She's gated him since, especially when years later, she becomes best friends with his sister and he acts like her doesn't remember her. Only he's been upset with himself and wished he could take it back all this time. When fate puts them both in Austin, he does all he can to prove he's not that dumb kid anymore. They grow closer as friends and eventually to more. She still has trust issues but he doesn't push. Can he prove himself?

3'5⭐

ARC Reader here 🌸
First of all: thank you to the author for the opportunity!
And now, let's review 👀

I finished this book some days ago, I always like to wait to review a book because that way only the important remains sooo...

Tripped up it's a sports romance. I liked the story, kinda second chance but not. It was original I think I never read a book with that kind of history (and that says a lot 😂). I liked the FMC a lot, she is a badass who fights for what is important for her but it's not afraid to ask for help. I liked the relationship she has with her closest friends, and how it is written.

I liked a the MMC too, he is a big good guy, who is not afraid of showing vulnerability and recognize he was and as**ole and that's good. totally a green flag.

The book talks about anxiety and some mental issues and the representations of that It's good.

So why 3'5⭐?

In the begging the pace was correct but in some point I lost it. For me it was super hurried, some times I didn't know the situation changed after some lines, and one of the situations didn't make sense to me.

But I enjoyed, it was a good read. This wasn't my favorite book but it has potential and maybe it's your favorite, so give it a try! 💖

Wyatt and Elsy’s story is your not so typical one night stand. Wyatt made a mistake and now years later he is trying to make up for it. Elsy has moved from Boston down to Austin to start her new life. Her friends are back in Boston and the only person she knows she disposes, Wyatt.

Wyatt & Elsy’s dislike for one another turns into a friendship to a situation ship where communication could be better.

If you’re looking for a quick sports romance with a MMC pining for a woman who he let down years ago, a great cast of supporting characters & found family this book is for you.

When I started to write my review I honestly didn't know where to start. I usually paraphrase the book in my own words and then add my thoughts but right now all I can think about is how real these characters were written. I feel like they could be sitting next to me in a coffee shop or in stadium seats because the way Allie wrote them made them so believable.

Elsy struggles with her body image, anxiety, self doubt, self-confidence, and has been hurt by those she has had relationships with including the one night stand thirteen years ago. She uses her snark and humor to diffuse the tension of situations and make herself more comfortable in awkward settings. She has high profile friends but struggles to make new friends in new places. Wyatt was one of the first to hurt her the morning after and even thirteen years later the pain lingers and she hates him fir his past mistakes. For her, having him near as her best friend's brother was was a constant reminder of his hurtful words.

Wyatt might seem like a hotshot Hockey player to the outside world but he has his own internal struggles. He also suffers from anxiety and has severe panic attacks that he sees a private and a sports therapist to help with strategies to cope with and without medication. He struggles with his self worth after years of neglect from his parents after choosing hockey over his education because they value degrees more than happiness. He also has lots of self hate over what he said thirteen years ago when he was an insecure teenager trying to fit in with the cool kids. For years, Wyatt tried to be close to Elsy using nicknames and secretly yearned for more but he could tell that Elsy hated him.

These two main characters started off as enemies with Bex as their mediator but once alone in the same city Wyatt was determined to get into Elsy's good graces by getting her to hang out with him and his teammates and supporting the symphony she plays with. He sent her her favorite lunches, remembered her drink and food orders when they were out. Offered her tickets to his games and supported her when needed. Slowly, Wyatt gained her trust even though it was slow and he assured her that he thought she was the most gorgeous person in every room to him. Once Elsy felt comfortable that Wyatt wasn't playing games she let him in and they started dating.

Wyatt was very obvious to all his teammates when he fell in love with Elsy even though at first he denied it until his rival and her best guy friend called him out. He admitted his love and that he wanted forever even though he hadn't told her yet. Wyatt was so nervous and so full of self doubt that he had a bad panic attack while having lunch with Henry, Mitch, and Elsy. Once Wyatt accidentally blurt out his feelings to Elsy and his teammates, Elsy realized that even though she fought it she loved Wyatt too and they decided on forever and marriage whenever they were both ready with no pressure just love.

I love the supporting characters as well. Henry is the flirt who I can't wait to find out who tames him. Riley is the golden retreiver puppy who is protective of his found Family. Viggy from Unleased also plays a part of tis story too. Mitch is the protective brother who punched Wyatt in Elsy's name thirteen years ago but unwillingly accepts Wyatt and Elsy's relationship as long as Wyatt treats her like a queen. With the exception of Viggy the supporting characters have become part of Wyatt and Elsy's family along with Bex, who is important to both.

I love the inclusiveness of this book and the character development. For a hockey girl, I was riveted to the story for the characters not just for the game. The found Family vibes are very strong and this so far my favorite out of the Austin Aces series even though I have loved all the ones I have read so far. Wyatt and Elsy's love was hard fought and because of that I believe will withstand any adversity sent their way.

I was given the opportunity to review this book with an ARC. I thank Allie Lasky and all the Aces authors for the opportunity. I was lucky to meet Allie at SRC2025 and I am so grateful for the privilege to voluntarily review these books.

Let’s talk about Tripped Up, a standout entry in Allie Lasky’s Austin Aces series. This isn't just another hockey romance; it's a heartfelt exploration of second chances, personal growth, and the complexities of mental health.
What I Loved:
- Authentic Characters: Elsy and Wyatt are portrayed with remarkable depth. Elsy's struggles with body image and anxiety, coupled with her sharp wit, make her incredibly relatable. Wyatt, beneath his hockey star persona, battles his own demons, including panic attacks and self-doubt. Their journey from past hurt to healing is both poignant and inspiring.
- Mental Health Representation: The novel doesn't shy away from depicting anxiety and its impact on relationships. Both protagonists experience anxiety attacks, and their mutual support is portrayed with sensitivity and realism.
- Slow-Burn Romance: The transition from animosity to affection between Elsy and Wyatt is gradual and believable. Wyatt's persistent efforts to win back Elsy's trust—remembering her favorite meals, supporting her symphony performances, and being there during her vulnerable moments—are endearing and heartfelt.
- Strong Supporting Cast: The secondary characters, including teammates and friends, add richness to the story. Their interactions provide both comic relief and emotional support, enhancing the found-family theme.
Writing Style:
Allie Lasky's writing is engaging and emotionally resonant. She balances humor and heartache, creating a narrative that is both entertaining and deeply moving. The dual POV format allows readers to fully understand both Elsy and Wyatt's perspectives, adding depth to their evolving relationship.
Overall Verdict:
Tripped Up is a beautifully crafted romance that delves into serious issues without losing its charm. It's a testament to the power of forgiveness, the importance of mental health awareness, and the enduring strength of love. Whether you're a fan of sports romances or stories about personal redemption, this book is a must-read.

[“You’re pretty confident for a guy on thin ice.” ….. “Good thing I skate for a living”]

I enjoyed my first read from Allie Lasky and I look forward to reading her backlist and what she has coming. I met this author earlier this year and she was absolutely lovely.

Tripped Up is a book in the Austin Aces Hockey Club series where eight authors have come together each writing a book in the series.

This story was a HEA, second chance/redemption story. The MCs met 13 years prior and enjoyed a night of O’s. The next morning, the FMC, a curvy firecracker, overhears not so nice things from the MMC who was trying to be super cool. You know how it is when you say things you don’t mean because you’re young, stupid and just so badly want to fit in – well, this is the case. Fast forward, the FMC ends up being the MMC’s sister’s BFF, and for years since learning this, the FMC has not been a fan, for obvious reasons.

Anyways, like I said, there’s a happily ever after, and the MMC redeems himself.
If you’re into a story that focuses on holding onto words from others about your weight for years and years and years, and trusting someone to help you overcome the damage words can do, then this is for you.

What to expect:
Sports romance
Second chance romance
Redemption story
Mental health rep
He falls first
Best friend’s brother

I voluntarily read an Advance Reader Copy of Levi, and I am providing my honest review. Thank you, Allie Lasky, for the opportunity

Tropes: enemies to lovers, second chance, best friends brother, found family, he falls first, mental health rep, plus sized FMC

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️🌶️

Ok I’m hooked on this series! I absolutely LOVED this book! The fact that Elsy is a plus sized girlie who struggles with panic attacks made me love her even more because I relate SO much! I think that she is my favorite FMC out of the whole series so far! AND WYATT?! HES THE PERFECT GOLDEN RETRIEVER BOOK BOYFRIEND. I think this might be the second hockey jersey I’m requesting from this series? If we could possibly make that happen? 👀 As the series continues, I’m seeing more and more of my favorite characters from previous books and I’m LIVING FOR IT.
Before I started this series, it had been a hot minute since I’d read anything that wasn’t dark romance related and as much as I love dark romance, sometimes its good for my mental health to take short breaks. This series was definitely the right way to go! All of the books I have read so far have been the sweetest, most wholesome books that I have ever read, with the perfect amount of spice of course. If you love yourself a good spicy hockey romance and need a short break from your dark romance reads, then this series is definitely the way to go, my loves! 🖤

An enemies to lovers story that will melt your heart.
Wyatt and Elsy met at seventeen and spent a night together. What started as an amazing night ended up in a disaster after Wyatt stupidly brags about it to his friends.
13 years later, Elsy is a successful musician for the Boston Orchestra, but is suddenly forced to leave her job, her friends and home to move to another city and start over.
She ends up in the same city as Wyatt, a now famous hockey player and her best friend’s brother.
Wyatt is well aware of Elsy’s hate for the last 13 years, but he is determined to show her that he is a good person, who made a mistake and that he has changed. He also never forgot about their night together.
Elsy is a very insecure woman when it comes to her body image and also struggles with anxiety.
Wyatt does everything he can to help her see how beautiful she truly is and how he sees her – as just perfect.
The attraction between them never faded.
Their relationship isn’t an easy and fast one, because it faces some challenges and sacrifices.
Allie Lasky writes perfectly about self-image problems and how society can worsen them, about anxiety and how to overcome it and about pure love that even tough it can take time it also prevails.
Thank you for the ARC.

I absolutely loved this story and cannot wait to dive in to more of Allie Lasky’s work!

Thirteen years ago, Wyatt made a huge mistake when he made a hurtful comment after his night with Elsy. Unfortunately, Elsy was there to witness it so he has felt guilty and she has hated him ever since. But when Elsy has to move to Austin unexpectedly, her best friend, Bex, asks her brother to look out for her and that brother happens to be Wyatt. They have to figure out how to coexist in the same city especially when they find themselves drawn to each other. But can Elsy forgive Wyatt and give him another chance or will the past keep them apart?

This story was so good. Elsy was such a relatable character. I could really empathize with her struggles with anxiety and making friends as an adult. I also really appreciated the plus size representation. Her struggles with body image and the way people treated her were so real. And I loved Wyatt’s absolute obsession with her and how he adored her body just as it was. I also liked that they each struggled with anxiety but it could look different for them. The mental health and therapy focus was a really great aspect. I can’t wait to find out how Bex and Nick know each other!

A second chance romance for Elsy and Wyatt after a one-night stand years before had come to nothing even though Elsy had hoped it could have been the start of something. Now, after a bad break up Elsy had relocated to Austin where her best friend had asked her brother to look out for her not knowing of the history between them.

I loved the banter between Elsy and Wyatt even though as a character he took a while to warm up to. Initially, he just wasn’t very likeable, but he grew on me especially when I realised his actions after that night was him being stupid rather than mean, something that could easily be attributed to his youth at the time. But as it turned out his actions had long term implications in Elsy’s issues with anxiety and how she saw herself and Wyatt had to work hard to show her just how beautiful he thought she was, both inside and out. Their story was a bit of a slow burner to start but did gather pace as it went on and with a strong group of secondary characters, Tripped Up was a great addition to the Austin Aces Hockey Club series.

I love Allie Lasky books and so getting to read this as an ARC was so fun!

I really love how Allie writes her characters- they are always very genuine and their personalities realistic and well rounded. She really knows her way around a sports romance, giving enough information on hockey for it to be enjoyable if you like hockey but not alienating if you don't, and we get loads of cameos from all the other fantastic characters she's written (although I would like a series of family trees, I keep forgetting who knows who and how!)

I felt like in Tripped Up, Elsy and Wyatt really belonged together and you really get the sense that Wyatt knows he's done wrong and wants to atone for his sins! I love a good second chance romance and this really stood out to me as an excellently done one, with a rapid engaging plot and gorgeously tender spice. My only loss of star was when I felt like Elsy flip-flopped between forgiving Wyatt too easily then bringing up her issues with him again then forgiving him... without him actually apologising.

Elsy moves to Austin for a job playing violin with the Austin symphony. Wyatt is a hockey player who was traded to Austin a few weeks before. Elsy is best friends with Wyatt’s sister and is not happy to be living near him. Elsy and Wyatt had a one-night stand years ago and Elsy overheard mean things that Wyatt and his friends said about her. She also thinks he doesn’t remember the night, but he does and he regrets what he said.

When Elsy has a plus one to the symphony gala, she asks Wyatt to go with her, even after she tells him they are enemies. The two of them start spending time together as friends. The two of them go out after one of Wyatt’s games and Elsy kisses him. Feelings are there and Elsy has to figure out if he is what she wants.

This is a great enemies to lovers story. There is love underneath all the teasing and banter which is fun to read. I finished this book in less than a day and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. I’m a big hockey fan but even if you aren’t, there’s still something to love in the story.

Allie has become one of my favorite sports romance writers. I love how she writes about a wide range of sports instead of just one or two of the major ones.

This particular story's characters are a hockey player and a symphony musician. The many coincidences of these two coming back into each other's lives should have been a clue that they needed to talk it all out. I loved both Wyatt and Elsy, apart and together. Wyatt's family? Besides his sister they were... eh. Made me feel a lot more compassion for Wyatt though.

One thing that bothered me was the lead up to an upcoming Allie book... If both Nick and Bex were best friends with Elsy, how did Elsy not know about their {still unknown} connection? No girl talk between Bex and Elsy? Maybe it'll all make sense in the book when it's released.

Otherwise, I loved the found family aspect of this book. Family isn't always blood relations and sometimes the best families are those we make ourselves. I was also a fan of how the topic of panic attacks was handled. It wasn't too clinical and it wasn't too out there. When the people around you can accept you just as you are, then yes, those are your people.

Oh how I love hockey romance! Tripped Up was such a fun and quick read for me. I immediately connected with musician Elsy, and I loved seeing her hatred for Wyatt slowly go from hatred to friendship to realizing there was something more there. The hockey itself was woven in so nicely and I adored the community that Elsy and Wyatt have.

I really loved having a FMC in Elsy who was honest about her body image struggles and the role they play in her relationships! And to see Wyatt not even bat an eye and support her through it was amazing. Body image is such a struggle for so many of us, and the realism here hit home for me.

The absolute SHRIEK I let out upon realizing the next book is about Bex and her man!! I am absolutely SAT for the next Austin Aces book by Allie Lasky, Game Misconduct! Considering I flew through this book, I am more than ready for more of Allie’s hockey books and am so excited to devour them all!

I voluntarily reviewed a free advance copy of this book provided by the author. The opinions expressed are my own.

Elsy and Wyatt spent one night together thirteen years ago but they never talk about it. Not even when they are reintroduced by her best friend, who also happens to be his sister. Now they are living in the same city and Wyatt is determined to finally make things right.

Read if you like:
-Dislike to Lovers (but he never hated her)
-He Falls First
-Owning up to Teenage Insecurities
-Redemption Arc
-Caretaker MMC

I adore Elsy and Wyatt! Tripped Up is such a good book. I really enjoyed the teenage to adult redemption arc for Wyatt. Who hasn't done something they regret because of teenage insecurities? It was so satisfying to see him learn from that mistake, grow up, and let Elsy take the lead. There was such great emotional maturity, particularly around the teasing nicknames. I love how that was handled. And that jersey scene. Phew! That was the hottest one ever.

I highly recommend this one!

Enemies to lovers, best friends brother , second chance and hockey romance with all the feels . Omg guys !!!!! I just adored Wyatt and Elsy’s story so freaking much. The way these two just hooked me from the very first page , the degree to which I found myself 100% invested and falling in love with both characters, no words can even start to express . I mean I was smiling, laughing out loud, even crying like a baby , sometimes actually yelling outta pure frustration and without a doubt cheering so so hard from start to ending . Elsy and Wyatt definitely had some obstacles and struggles to work through. And this story was anything but hearts and flowers , but in the end everything turned out just as it was meant to . This really was such a beautiful and emotional journey about falling in love , about suffering through heartbreak, about overcoming insecurities and learning to love yourself and it’s definitely about getting a second chance at love and a happy ending.

Tripped Up is a second chance, hockey romance that is the perfect score.

Lasky introduces us to Elsy and Wyatt who had one night 13 years earlier that ended in disaster.

Elsy is a plus sized FMC who is sassy in the best ways. She also struggles with anxiety and has self esteem issues that contribute to her need for control. Wyatt is a golden retriever MMC that wants to make up for his mistake and make Elsy realize how special she is.

With some fun and emotional times, Elsy and Wyatt’s story is the best combination of giggles and tears. Along with a group of side characters that will also steal your heart, they navigate the new ways they are discovering each other while both learning to deal with their trauma. When I say Elsy is one of my new favorite FMCs from this year, I am not exaggerating.

If you’re looking for a sweet romance that hits all the right notes, Tripped Up should be a part of your summer reading.

Enemies to lovers with one of them not realizing they were enemies to begin with? Sign me up!

Wyatt and Elsy are hysterical, in their own unique ways. They both are also very much the miscommunication trope but without it being dragged out for too long. I adore the found family aspect of the book as well, between the other hockey players and then Bex and Mitchell, its giving chaotic family but in a hilarious Modern Family way. Their love story is not instant. It builds for most of the book but the reward is well worth it in the end 🔥

I adored reading about these two, the different aspects of real life each had to overcome, and how to have a healthy relationship in the end.

I was lucky enough to receive an arc of this amazing novel and am leaving a review of my own thoughts and feelings.

What a cute but perfect hockey romance! Elsy moves to Austin after a rough break up and job loss only to find out the man who broke her heart 13 years ago was living there. Her feelings towards his are of hate but the physical attraction is still on fire. She never understood why he was such an ass all those years ago but we soon learn he’s not that man and that he’s hates himself for it as well.
Wyatt lives for the game but when his sister bff moves into town he’s confronted with his past but makes the moves to correct how she feels about him.

Through the story Wyatt steps up to show elsy just how much he feels for her step by step till and it’s beyond beautiful but also has the spicy we all love to see. The way it builds really gives u the happy ever after as well but I can’t wait for the next book to see what happens with Bex and Mitch!

Elsy and Wyatt are enemies, or so Elsy thinks. Thirteen years ago, they had a great night, but the next day Elsy overhead Wyatt saying horrible things about her to his teammates. She was devastated and has despised him ever since. Almost a decade later, she becomes best friends with his sister and has to "tolerate" him whenever they have to spend time together. Now she has moved to the same city as him and Wyatt's sister, Bex, has asked Wyatt to look out for Elsy.

Elsy still can't stand him, but oh is she attracted to him! So, they do some things together and realize that there is chemistry. But could it work? What if Wyatt is still an a-hole? What if Elsy doesn't think he is worthy of her?

I loved this story of enemies to lovers! Elsy and Wyatt are raw and real and so relatable! Allie Lasky scores a hat trick with Tripped Up!

Elsy has just moved from Boston to Austin after a bad fall out from her last relationship, looking for a new start. Coincidentally her best friend's brother, a hockey player was just traded to Austin. Unfortunately, she hates him after an interaction years ago when they hooked up and he insulted her to his teammates the next morning. Has he changed over the years or should she not let her guard down with him trying to get into her life?

As the perpetual curvy girl, I loved seeing this narrative play out. It's happened a million times and is so hard to overcome but Wyatt is such a sweetheart. Loved the story and the spice was great! They have such a cute connection, even if she is kinda mean to him. Great representation of anxiety and panic attacks, super relatable and great to see them working on grounding in healthy and supportive ways. I wish there were more books of these two!

I always love a good enemies to lovers romance and overall this was super enjoyable. Our MC's Wyatt and Elsy hooked up as 19 year olds and well, like only a 19 year old can - Wyatt seriously messed up. Several years later they are reconnected via Wyatt's sister - who is Elsy's best friend. First of all the hockey part of this was really well written - I'm not really a hockey fan - but I love when the sports part of a sports romance are well written and represented as part of the story and not just the background. I also apricated the scenes where they discuss their mental health struggles, support each other and actually see their therapists on the regular. There were a few times when the pace of the story changed and it took me out of the story. Can't wait to keep reading about the Austin Aces!

Wyatt Whitney may have started out as Elsy enemy after one night together 13 years ago but now that they are in the same city, will the attraction be too much? Elsy left Boston and her best friends to restart her life in Austin. After a terrible breakup and a need for restart, she accepted a position with the Austin Symphony. Wyatt was just traded to the NHL team in Austin and is getting used to being on a new team after being on his old team for years. Wyatt’s sister, Bex happens to be Elsy best friend and when she helps Elsy move in, she invites Wyatt to help. What Bex doesn’t know if that 13 years ago, after a one night stand, Wyatt said some terrible things about Elsy and do we think she can forgive him and give him a second chance for love?

Oh my!

This book was such a treat to read. Best friends brother with whom our FMC Elsy had a one night stand with many years ago. Only to hear him say something nasty to his friends the next morning. Gosh what a gut punch!

Wyatt knows he was a jerk for doing and saying what he did. Now they are in the same city and Elsy doesn't really have much choice but to hang out with Wyatt.

I loved the way he called her different names to tease her and when she told him she did not like it he stopped abruptly.

Knowing her food order, the way her tights made him sweat...

Just a great fun read really! Definitely going in the re-read pile for sure!

Many thanks to Author Allie Lasky for the ARC

Another awesome book by Allie Lasky! Wyatt and Elsy were a fun read that deals with a few real health issues (anxiety, panic attacks, self doubt/low confidence) as well as a lack of trust and a broken heart. I love that they had history from 13 years ago and crossed paths years later when Elsy meets her BFFs brother!

It was sad to read that Elsy had low body confidence and has had crummy relationships in the past but I loved how she made Wyatt work for it. I loved Wyatt’s relentless pursuit of getting close to and caring for her whenever he could,

I loved all the banter, the up’s and downs and how these two are not just drawn to each other but deeply care too. This is an awesome book and I hope you check it out.

Elsy and Wyatt’s story is a slow-burn, second-chance romance that blends heat, heart, and just the right amount of sass. They had one night at nineteen, followed by Wyatt saying the exact wrong thing and completely tanking Elsy’s confidence. Thirteen years later, she’s a gifted musician with anxiety and a sharp tongue. He’s a famous hockey player and her best friend’s brother… awkward.

Wyatt knows he messed up and is set on proving he’s not that guy anymore. Elsy? Not so convinced. But the chemistry never died, and neither did the tension.

This book tackles body image, anxiety, and self-worth with care while still giving us hilarious banter, a supportive friend group, and one very determined man who’s not letting her get away again. Tripped Up is funny, heartfelt, and absolutely swoony.

Why are sports stories something that just hits different? And can someone explain to me why having the opposite sex best friend always makes the story better?

In this, Wyatt and Elsy are just perfect for each other, even given their rough past. I mean, I do find it funny how dumb he was and how he didn’t quite know how to get past it. I also loved how she didn’t give into him right away. She could have, but she didn’t. She made him work for that forgiveness and let me tell you, it was amazing and sweet to see. It’s also clear their connection was something that was worked upon, not just something that was WHAM and there you go.

Needless to say, I couldn’t put it down. Now, I need Mitch’s and Bex’s story like stat, please!

Tripped Up is Allie Lasky's contribution to the Austin Aces series. Elsy and Wyatt had a one night stand 13 years ago which Wyatt doesn't remember. And he insulted her when he joked with his teammates the next day. But Wyatt does remember. Now that they both live in Austin, this is his second chance with her. And he has quite a bit of uphill groveling to overcome her antipathy. They do become friends and then friends with benefits.
Despite relationship trust issues, Elsy is a kicka$$FMC. She's loyal to her friends and a quite giving lover. Wyatt has grown up quite a bit from his 19 y.o. callous self. He's sweet and considerate. They work hard to get passed the angst and anger. It was a well earned HEA.
I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my review.

Tripped Up is part of the Austin Aces Hockey Club Series.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. Wyatt makes a big mistake in the past and this ruins anything he could've had with Elsy. Ten years later, they are enemies but try to get along for the sake of her friend/his sister. But now they are in the same city together and develop a tentative friendship. This closeness causes the feelings they had in the past to renew and develop more.

The players on the Austin Aces are the best. They make a great found family group and you can see the genuine friendships which develop naturally between them all. There is a lot of banter which makes the story flow well.
