Rate this book
"HeBrews A Better Blend" is all about better things...with faith in Jesus being the focal point of all things better. HeBrews: A Better Blend by Leah Adams is a most exceptional Bible study. Why? It is so because it stays true to the concept of Bible study. What I mean by that is that it utilizes key strategies to get the student into the Word of God. Additionally, it encourages the student to study not only for herself and to come to a point of realization based on the Scriptures, but it also encourages her [the student] to study in a group format so as to engage in healthy Bible discussions.

What I Loved About This Study:
- the author's voice and writing style were conversational and personal
- the presented vignettes were easy to relate to
- the use of Scripture was thorough and detailed
- the Old Testament and New Testament relationship was discussed
- the word studies were relevant
- the illustrations were helpful and useful
- the simplicity of language per section was effectively communicated
- the posed questions were applicable for any stage of life or season of experience
- the weekly prayers were inspiring
- the designated spaces for responses, Scripture reflection, and notations were plentiful
- the use of related commentary and resources was appreciated; it served to influence further study
- the author did not push her point of view or lead the student to her [Leah's] beliefs
- the Gospel was revealed
- the study showed students how to dig deeper
- the recipes were a delightful addition that should hold an appeal for many
- the study invited me to want to know more(this is why I study the Bible and encourage others to do so as well)

While I did very much love this study, there was one point that I had a little trouble with. I cannot say that I totally agreed with the way the information was presented, although I am familiar with it. I felt that the author could have flushed this particular point a bit more.

I would adore sitting down with Leah Adams and having Bible study with her. She writes in a voice that sounds like my own. Her considerate questions, her expressed thoughts and her gentle encouragement were wonderful.

Lastly, this is the type of Bible study that I think would be received well and draw many out into a discussion about the things that God would have us know.

Last fall I started a personal study of the book of Hebrews - mostly because it was a book I just didn't really understand. And wouldn't you know, I saw that a study called HeBrews: a Better Blend by Leah Adams was up for review! It was perfect.

I really enjoyed this study. Adams has split this study up into eight weeks, and she opens each chapter with a recipe and coffee recommendation, which I love! I appreciated all of her illustrations and the way she uses Scripture to interpret Scripture. She references many other places in the Bible for clarification of difficult concepts in Hebrews, and I really liked that. She also had a really good variety in the types of exercises in this study, and it kept each section interesting!

She did jump around Hebrews a bit, instead of going chapter by chapter, and though I can see how she was trying to address each topic in Hebrews, I still found it a little confusing. I am also not sure why the publisher did this, but there were two places where an "Editor's Note" was included, and it felt weird to me - like whoever the editor was, they were trying to insert their opinion into a study they didn't write. I think the intent might have been to add a different perspective so all sides were understood, but it was awkward to me.

The one point I did not agree with the author was when she said that the passage in Romans 8 that talks about nothing being able to separate us from God's love does not include us - that we can separate ourselves from the love of God. Her point was that we need to cling to the Lord and spend time in Bible study and prayer, but I totally disagree with her thought on that passage - "nor any other created thing" (Romans 8:39) would include us! We are part of creation, no? That bugged me.

Overall, Adams has a great, conversational style to her writing, and she has a way of making difficult concepts easy to understand. Aside from the point mentioned above, I think this study is sound, and I can recommend checking it out.

Note: I received this ebook for free from Netgalley in exchange for this review. This is my honest opinion.

As I was reading Hebrews: A Better Blend (because of course I would be doing a coffee themed Bible study!), author Leah C. Adams’ challenge at the chapter’s conclusion ended with an invitation: Please join me in praying for the hearts of the Jewish people to be opened to the truth of the gospel. I thought, “Nope! This does not apply to me! I’m heading to Morocco!” But the more I thought about, the more the Holy Spirit impressed Bethlehem on my heart and increased my desire to go. I emailed my international workers organization and expressed, my heart is open to wherever you think the need is greatest and the fit is best! I look forward to my next steps wherever they may lead.

As God would have it, those next steps led me to the birthplace of our Risen Lord and King! I believe that many are waiting in their towns for a lamp burning with a holy flame to be brought to them, and Bethlehem is no exception! “But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, ‘How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!’” (Romans 10:14-15).

I believe that the Father sends us to march in the procession of beautiful feet, heralding the arrival of Truth! We are the light of the world, and we have been called to distribute the flame of the Gospel among the awaiting candles, which every member of the crowd is holding! We are being sent to let our light shine before men, that they may see our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven! Even now, I know His hand is at work preparing a place--making room--for the divine encounters and rich relationships that He has in store for us! I share the prayer that Leah C. Adams writes in A Better Blend:

Dear God, Your people, Israel, did not recognize their Jewish Messiah. I ask You to soften their hearts and open their eyes to the truth of Who Jesus is. You command us to pray for peace. My plea is that the Jews come to know Jesus as Savior and Lord. Do whatever it takes, Lord, to open their eyes to the reality of Jesus as the Messiah. In the strong name of Jesus. Amen.

Our Bible study group of mixed ages and genders went through this 8 week study on the book of Hebrews. It’s laid out well for group study and weekly discussion and breaks down the book of Hebrews one chapter at a time. This study produced good conversation and individual study and growth. She covers ground in both Old and New Testaments and will leave the reader with a deeper understanding of the book. I would recommend for small group study!

Our Women’s Ministry leadership team is always on the lookout for studies that will draw our ladies into an abiding love relationship with our Savior. While searching for a bible study that was not DVD driven I stumbled upon HeBrews: A Better Blend from Warner Press. One prerequisite that our team has for new material is that it must equip our small group leaders with all that they need to lead their class into a deeper understanding of the scriptures. Leah Adams meets and exceeds our expectations with her newest study HeBrews: A Better Blend.
Attracted by the cover (I know I shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, but...) I thought that the coffeehouse theme of this study would appeal to millennials which compose a large portion of our congregation. Beyond the cover, this study provides wonderful insights sure to spark small group conversations. Riddled with personal stories and lessons learned from a woman seeking hard after God, Leah Adams immediately connects with her students in a rich and ongoing dialog.
Full of “ah-ha” moments, HeBrews connects the dots between old and new using a compare and contrast method of study. While completing the five days of homework each week, participants will enjoy spending time in the Old Testament, seeing how Jesus is the completion of all God began in the Old Testament. Readers will dig deeper and discover how God exchanged Law for Grace, how the OT High Priest was a forerunner of Jesus, the construction and symbolism of the tabernacles, and the benefits/necessity of putting our faith into action. Homework is comprised of reading, comparing scriptures, fill in the blank questions, and opportunities for personal summation of lessons learned. Perfect for sharing in a small group setting. No study would be complete without the opportunity to do a little heart-work and Adams’ provides a prompt through her “Meditation Moments” at the end of each day.

I have completed this study and I can wholeheartedly recommend it to our Women’s Ministry and yours. The author’s style of writing, the pace of the study, and depth of material covered make this study one that will appeal to all - whether new to the faith or a seasoned believer. It would be impossible to do this study and not fall head over heals in love again with our Savior. Grab a cup of joe and a sweet treat from the recipes included in this study and enjoy your time in the Word.

I give HeBrews: A Better Blend by Leah Adams 5 out of 5 stars.
