When Jacob Travis first settled in Bonebooth, Texas in 1901, he realized the land was named appropriately. Dry as bones and covered in dust and disappointment, Jacob is set on making this land a place for himself and his fortune. All he needs is a helping hand... in the form of a mail-order bride.
When Laoise comes to America from Ireland to marry a rancher she's never met, their initial meeting is rockier than the terrain. Laoise brings along a faith in God that Jacob would rather ignore, but an alluring beauty and strength that draws him in more than he'd like.
He needs a working hand, not a wife.
However, when a tornado powers through the ranch, it leaves Jacob critically injured, possibly even crippled in one leg, and on bed rest for months. He's left with no choice but to let Laoise and her God take care of himself and the ranch. When desperate times call for desperate measures, will Laoise and Jacob ever be able to build a life on the ranch...and possibly with each other? Or will they wither away just like the land of Bonebooth, Texas?

I’ve been following this author’s career and this is, by far, my favorite book. She has done an amazing job in creating a story that will envelope you in the lives of her main characters, Jacob and Laoise.
Her descriptions are lively and detailed and you will feel the frustration that Jacob and Laoise have as they get to know one another and understand their unusual situation.
In the storyline Laoise has a firm faith in God and her prayers read beautifully. It is clear the author, herself, has a faith. They were thought provoking and realistic. Scripture is sprinkled through the book as the store unfolds.
This book will make you cry, laugh and ponder your own life and choices.
I’m excited that this the beginning of a series because there are many characters I would like to see developed.
I am so proud of my sister for this book. Many times I was staring at her in wonder and sympathetic joy for the work of art she has produced. I do not read romance books and I do not read westerns so imagine my surprise when I read a book that was delightfully both. Her talent as an author has grown so much and I legit forgot many times that she wrote this book. She is a wonder and a talent and anyone who knows me, knows I do not speak falsehoods. I adored this book and it was wonderful to see it come to fruition and read the journey that she has known all along.
