ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Usually, I love a cosy contemporary romance. However, this was not for me. The entire storyline was extremely confusing and hard to understand at most points. Betty and Miles had the worst dialogue. Every time they talked, it felt like they had no connection and were extremely boring together. The beginning of the plot, with them meeting through Betty’s sister and husband, Miles best friend, was okay. And it was quite funny with how they met. However, it went downhill from there. I really didn’t understand what exactly they were doing or why. Near the beginning, Betty is said to have experienced some kind of trauma with a man and expresses guilt, however it’s never really talked about after that or given context to how it affects her later on.

As for the sister and her husband, they clearly had PROBLEMS, as shown but it was never really fully explained as to how it happened and I feel like that could have been a way better addition to the plot. I get that Miles and Betty were kind of in opposite ends with Miles being the husband, Tates, friend and Scarlet being Betty’s sister, but it was just really off.

Overall, I just couldn’t get into it. It wasn’t for me at all. It felt like there were a lot of holes in the plot that needed to be rectified to make it more readable.

This was not my cup of tea, unfortunately.

In this story we follow Elizabeth as she moves into her sister’s summer home with her pony after losing her apartment. However there lives Miles, one of Tate’s, her brother in law, groomsman who embarrassed her at their wedding. While trying not to make the couple fight it out, who will have to move out?

I enjoyed the first half of this story because it was setting up the story quite well, however the chemistry between the two was nowhere to be seen. Also the protagonist was not it at all, she was trying so hard to be different, like how many outfits do I have to read about just to prove you’re unique? I was actually very excited about this story because it has all the elements I generally love about romcoms but it just did not work here unfortunately.

Thank you NetGalley and One More Chapter for an e-arc copy in exchange for an honest review.

I was so excited about reading a cute and cozy summer romance but in actuality it was a massive let down for me.

The extremely short tldr: Betty (or Betsy, Betty Beth, Betsy B or whatever Miles is calling her today) is in need of a place for her and her pony, Pumpkin, to stay. Betty’s sister offers up her cottage in St. Aidan’s. When Betty arrives, she discovers she’s not alone. Miles, her brother in law’s bestie, is currently residing there with permission from the bro in law. Neither knew the other would be there. There’s history between the two and after the sister and bro in laws marriage goes sideways, Betty and Miles both have to stay in the cottage or risk their parties losing rights to it.

To begin, the title is a bit misleading. The Cozy Croissant Cafe doesn’t really exist in this book. Betty and Miles open a series of shops about 50% through called ‘Betsy and Milo’ that sells an eclectic selection of local artisan handmade goods, postcards made from photos Betty has taken and Miles’ boathouse buns. The store is never referred to as a cozy cafe (at least not that I could recall) so I just feel a bit mislead.

The chemistry between Betty and Miles also felt extremely strained. Betty is not interested in a relationship and has a phobia of being tied down to anything. She’s very much a free spirit. She has a tendency to get railroaded by her older sister and ends up getting railroaded by Miles a lot, too. Miles for his part is a bit of an ass right off the hop. He refuses to compromise and seems like he always wants the last word. For a solid 60% of the book these two are constantly bickering. And not like ‘oh such cute banter!’ bickering. It was more ‘why are you willingly engaging with him when all he does is piss you off?’ bickering. Even when they started working together and becoming close, Miles would still do things relatively impulsively without getting buy in from Betty - such as bringing in a dog who ultimately ate her Vivienne Westwood pumps and wound up being mostly her responsibility. Plus the calling her different names every time they converse thing got old quite quickly for me.

I feel like this book would have benefitted from a dual pov. We only ever see things from Betty’s perspective which means we don’t know what’s going through Miles’ head. I feel like if I knew what he was thinking at any given time I’d probably feel a bit more charitable towards him.

I feel quite guilty leaving such a bad review but I honestly just did not enjoy this book. The only enjoyable things for me were the recipes at the back (even though they did NOT include the recipe for the boathouse buns that were the star of the book!) and the cover is beautiful and cheery.

Thanks very much to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

-ARC provided in exchange for an honest review-

I’m sorry, I really wanted to like this book but I just couldn’t.

Aside from the story itself, the biggest issue for me was the editing or lack thereof. The phrase ‘he pulls a face’ was used so many times I’ve lost count. There were missing comas, way too many exclamation points, weirdly built sentences… this needs a serious review before getting published.

As for the story, to start with it’s obvious you step in a ‘series’ world type but it isn’t outwardly explained, so you feel sorta confused during the whole book because characters pop up you’re supposed to know but don’t.

The FMC is supposed to be ditzy charming and innocent - but reads annoying childish and incompetent. Her job literally makes 0 sense. She has a traumatic relationship that gets discussed… once. She hates the MMC because? No clue.

The MMC is hot, maybe? That’s pretty much all we know. He’s got 0 personality, pulls a face constantly then disappears.

I see what this book tried to achieve, but unfortunately this really didn’t hit anywhere close to the mark for a cosy read.

It was an easy, cozy read and I really enjoyed the descriptions about St Aidan. Pumpkin the pony was definitely the highlight of it. The storyline and short chapters did keep me interested but overall I did find it to be a typical cringey romance where of course she didn’t like the guy at the start but grew to like him. And the ending was really corny especially when Betsy realises she loves Miles and then proceeds to run away from him due to being overwhelmed and then is forced to meet up with him a few days later and all is fine again… just a tad cringey and over the top reaction from her 😂. Overall though it was a fun read and it took me into a cozy feel good place so I would definitely read another book in this series when I fancy an easy read!

This is a very sweet story that shows the strong bond of family, which does not include only people but also our beloved animals! It vividly describes the new beginning after a loss, the strength and courage as well as the love that appears in people and moments when you least expect it!

So, if you are looking for a feel-good story to read this summer then this is your book! It is a family story, with a lot of humor and of course there is no lack of romance! You will surely have a great time reading it! Lie down on the beach, enjoy your favorite soft drink and of course have some crispy croissants with you!

Fun, summery read! An enemies to lovers with loads of sweet treats and a pony too. Miles and Betty's love/hate relationship was filled with banter, snarky comments and flirting! St. Aidan is the perfect location, with friends, a beach and cute little shops galore. I've read other books in this series and this one was just as good!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Then I discovered it was the latest in a series of books about a little seaside town in Cornwall and was sorry I had not read the others, but delighted to read at the end that the author says she has written them all to be read as standalone books although there is some continuity between them if read as a series. Phew. Now I shall start from the first one and look forward to rereading this one when I get to it!!

I loved The Cosy Croissant Café by Jane Linfoot. It took me to the picturesque and beautiful seaside village of St Aidans, following Betty and her adorable Shetland pony, Pumpkin. Pumpkin is Betty's loyal friend, who belonged to her late Mum, and their bond is so very special and unique.

Betty moves into Boathouse Cottage, looking for a peaceful retreat. Boathouse Cottage belongs to Betty's sister, Scarlett. However, things don’t quite go to plan because Scarlett's husband has been allowing their friend, Miles Appleton, a charming pastry chef, to stay there. Miles has let Betty down in the past so this is the last thing she needs and she certainly does not want to be living under the same roof together. Even so, there is a spark between Betty and Miles that Betty does her very best to ignore. Nevertheless, Betty is determined to move forward and try and leave the past behind.

The village of St Aidans sounds such a wonderful place to live. The community is amazing. Friendly neighbours will say hello to you and look out for you. You can walk along the beach, and then head for coffee and croissants at Miles's café! A perfect day! Made me want to go straight away! Everyone in the village seems to love Miles’ croissants and cannot walk past the café without purchasing some!

I loved the characters of Betty and Miles. They have fantastic chemistry which neither of them could ignore, and I love their interactions together. And you can't help but root for their romance. I was cheering for them both from start to finish.

Letting go of the past is never easy, but by embracing change and moving forward, you may just open the door to a brighter future filled with endless possibilities.

The story beautifully blends romance and humour, making it a cosy and delightful read. The characters are so brilliantly well-crafted and relatable. Their unique traits make them feel like real people you can relate to.

The book made me smile and laugh so much! The Cosy Croissant Café is such a heartwarming story about love, friendship, and enjoying life's simple pleasures. Enjoying these simple pleasures can bring great happiness and fulfillment. It’s often the little things that make all the difference.

If you are looking to escape to a charming seaside village, then this book is for you! Such a lovely lovely read. Make sure you have some croissants to eat while reading this lovely book!

I really wanted to love this one. It had all the ingredients I usually adore in a romcom—forced proximity, a summer house setting, unresolved tension from a wedding mishap—but unfortunately, it just didn’t quite hit the mark for me.

We follow Elizabeth, who moves into her sister’s summer home (with her pony in tow) after losing her home. The catch? Miles—one of her brother-in-law’s groomsmen who majorly embarrassed her at the wedding—is already living there. Cue awkward tension and a silent battle over who gets to stay without alerting the Scarlet and Tate to the drama.

What Didn’t Work for Me

➖ The setup felt forced – I struggled with the basic premise from the get-go. The whole “let’s not tell Scarlet and Tate about this mix-up” just didn’t make sense. Like… just text them? Call? It felt like the entire conflict was based on miscommunication that could’ve been solved in five seconds, and that’s a tough foundation to build a story on.

➖ Where was the chemistry? – I kept waiting for some spark to kick in between Elizabeth and Miles, and it just… never really showed up. They had moments that should’ve been swoony, but they didn’t land for me emotionally.

➖ Elizabeth tried too hard to be quirky – I love a unique FMC, but this felt like trying to prove she’s “not like other girls” through a constant stream of unironed outfits and offbeat behavior. It didn’t feel authentic—it felt performative.

What I Did Like

✔ The first half had promise – The setup, despite my confusion over the logic, was actually enjoyable at first. There was a cozy, summer-read vibe I could get behind.

✔ Cute romcom elements were there – The potential was strong. I could see what this book was trying to be, and if it had landed with more believable tension and stronger characters, I probably would’ve been all in.

Final Thoughts

This one had the bones of a great romcom, but it just didn’t come together for me. I think readers who love low-stakes, small-town romantic setups might still enjoy it, especially if you’re more forgiving of light miscommunication tropes.

Thank you to NetGalley and One More Chapter for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Cosy Croissant Café follows the classic enemies-to-lovers trope with Betty and Miles at the heart of the story, told entirely from Betty’s perspective. After losing her home to developers, Betty moves into her sister’s cottage—with her trusty pony Pumpkin in tow—only to discover it’s already been promised to someone else: Miles, her sister’s husband’s best friend and someone she’s been harboring a serious grudge against since her sister’s wedding.

Betty is dealing with an event in her past that clearly affects how she interacts with the world—and with Miles, who ends up taking the brunt of her emotional defenses. While the premise had great potential for sparks to fly, I found that the chemistry between the two fell flat. The dry humor between them was fun at times, but their eventual connection felt more abrupt than believable. One moment they’re arguing, the next they’re kissing, and I couldn’t help but feel like something was missing in between.

Betty is quirky and bold, while Miles is buttoned-up and goal-focused—great ingredients for a dynamic pairing, but for me, the slow burn was too slow, and when things finally did heat up, it felt sudden and a little unearned. Honestly, I spent most of the book feeling more sympathy for Miles than for Betty.

I also struggled a bit with the supporting cast. There are clearly returning characters from previous books, and while I’m sure longtime fans will enjoy seeing them again, I found myself confused by who was who and what business they were tied to. Nicknames like “the mermaids” weren’t really explained, which left me feeling a little out of the loop.

All in all, this was a cozy, easy read with charming touches and light humor—but if you’re picking it up for a swoony romance, you might find it a bit underwhelming.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher, One More Chapter, for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

The Cosy Croissant Café
by Jane Linfoot

When Betty's sister graciously offers her cottage in the picturesque village of St. Aidan’s, it seems like the perfect retreat for Betty and her beloved pony, Pumpkin. However, upon her arrival, Betty discovers she is not the only occupant of the quaint one-bedroom cottage. Miles, her brother-in-law's best friend, has also made himself at home.

Despite its charming setting, Betty struggles to maintain her focus for several reasons. Miles, with an almost playful inconsistency, insists on changing Betty's name, calling her everything from "Betsy" to "Betty Beth" and even "Betsy B." This constant alteration feels disconcerting as a reader. As a freelance writer, she is usually brimming with creative ideas, yet she finds herself inexplicably fixated on securing this one particular job and publication for her story—a task that seems to grow increasingly daunting.

The dynamic between Betty and Miles is notably dull; their conversations often drift into mundane territory, leaving little room for excitement or flirtation. The absence of chemistry is palpable, making their interactions feel more like an awkward arrangement than a blossoming romance. In this seemingly idyllic setting, Betty grapples with her aspirations and the unexpected presence of a companion who adds an air of tension rather than the anticipated warmth.

This book was exactly what I needed - cozy, comforting, and full of charm. If you're looking for a feel-good escape with a sprinkle of romance and a whole lot of baked goods, this one’s for you.

I really loved Betty as a main character. She’s got this quiet strength and vulnerability that made her so easy to root for. Her connection with her rescue Shetland pony, Pumpkin, was adorable and gave the story a wholesome, heartwarming touch. And let’s talk about Miles—the pastry chef with a knack for making irresistible croissants and getting under Betty’s skin. Their banter was delightful and the slow-burn tension between them had me smiling like a fool.

The St Aidan setting was beautifully described. It made me want to pack up and move to a little seaside town immediately. And while the storyline had its emotional beats (family drama, grief, healing), it was never heavy-handed. It balanced the sweet and the serious really well.

The only reason it’s not a full 5 stars for me is because there were a few moments that dragged just a touch, but honestly? I didn’t mind lingering in this world a bit longer. Between the cozy cottage, the mouthwatering pastries, and the blossoming romance, I felt like I was wrapped up in a warm blanket with a cup of tea in hand.

After Betty and her Shetland pony Pumpkin have to move out of the rescue centre where she had been staying and working she moves to her sister and husband 's holiday cottage. The only problem is that, unknown to her sister, her brother in law had already left his friend Miles stay there and they already had history. Things don't start well and go downhill from there.
This is part of a series set in St Aiden, Cornwall, although it can be read as a standalone book. It has an enemies to (hopefully) lovers theme, both Betty and Miles have totally different characters, she is impulsive, good hearted, he comes across as very organised and stuffy. Both of them have issues which are only very gradually revealed, which makes some of their interactions difficult to understand at first. They almost by accident start a joint business, which forces them to work closely together which has both highs and lows. Set in my favourite part of the world, Cornwall, the star of the show is definitely Pumpkin.
4.5* stars rounded up to 5*this will be enjoyed by those such as myself who appreciate slower, more thoughtful, books.

I truly wanted to enjoy this book—the premise had promise, and I can see what the author was going for with a cozy, light-hearted romance. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite land for me.

One of the biggest challenges was the editing. The phrase “he pulls a face” appeared quite frequently,

The story also seems to take place within a larger universe, which could be interesting, but it wasn’t clearly established. That made it a bit confusing at times, as characters were introduced as if the reader should already know them.

The FMC appears to be intended as endearingly quirky and innocent, but she came off to me as a bit too naïve and inconsistent. Her profession was hard to grasp, and her past trauma was touched on briefly but not fully explored. Similarly, her dynamic with the MMC felt underdeveloped—I wasn’t quite sure why there was tension between them.

As for the MMC, he had potential but remained pretty one-dimensional. Other than being described as attractive, we didn’t get much insight into his personality or motivations.

Overall, I appreciate the intent behind the story and the cozy vibe it was aiming for.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC

The Cosy Croissant Café by Jane Linfoot is a delightful escape into the charming village of St. Aidan, offering a blend of warmth, humour, and romance. The story follows Betty as she navigates unexpected challenges, including a complicated relationship with the talented pastry chef, Miles Appleton .

Linfoot's writing shines in her vivid descriptions of the café's delectable treats and the picturesque setting, creating a cosy atmosphere that invites readers to settle in with a cup of tea. The inclusion of Betty's rescue Shetland pony, Pumpkin, adds a unique and endearing touch to the narrative.

However, while the novel offers comfort and charm, some plot elements feel predictable, and certain character dynamics could have been explored more deeply. The story maintains a light-hearted tone, which, while enjoyable, may leave readers seeking more emotional depth.

Overall, The Cosy Croissant Café is a pleasant read for those looking for a feel-good story set in a quaint village. It's a sweet addition to Linfoot's collection of romantic comedies, perfect for fans of cosy, heartwarming tales.

I didn’t know if I was feeling like a cosy romance before I picked this up, starting reading and very quickly realised this was exactly the book I wanted. I got into it quickly and carrying on listening was no hardship for me on this one.

The audiobook was great and made my gym sessions go infinitely quickly. Well narrated and easy to listen to. The banter and the relationship between Beth/ Betty/ Eliza/ Betty Beth and Miles was so entertaining to read and that, coupled with the cosy atmosphere, made for easy enjoyment.

Also - you won’t make it through the book without INTENSELY craving some sort of pastry/ croissant relation as the sweet confections detailed in this book will leave you dribbling. Or maybe that was just me…! It all sounded so delicious and I would have been happy to reach through the pages and shared one of Miles’s creations. As ever, there’s always the ‘hurry up and see sense’ vibes you get from some romance books but it was a satisfying ending and an enjoyable read!

I was invited by the publisher to review this book. Betty goes to Boathouse Cottage with her pony in order to re-charge, but instead finds herself embroiled in a fight - that is, her sister's fight within her marriage. To make matters worse, Miles, the best friend of Betty's brother-in-law, is in the mix - and that is a history that Betty does not want to re-visit. The problem is, Miles bakes delicious items, and Betty can't stay away from them, or him, even though they are supposed to be on opposite sides of the ending marriage.

This was a sweet, simple read; a good choice for a crisp spring day. Also, I really loved the book cover - it is inviting and definitely cozy! I also loved that the pet in this book was actually a pony - I love dogs and cats, but it was nice to get a different perspective with the pony.

Thank you One More Chapter/HarperCollins Publishers Ltd. for the opportunity to read "The Cosy Croissant Café" in exchange for my honest review.

We meet Betty who is the free spirited younger sister of successful fashion buyer Scarlett. Scarlett and her architect husband live in Manchester but have a lovely Cornish holiday home that Scarlett offers to Betty when she finds herself without a place to stay. Scarlett and Tate are travelling to New York for several months so she would be doing her sister a favour. St. Aidan, Cornwall seems to be the perfect place for Betty to pull herself together. Only problem is - Tate also made arrangements for the house to be looked after. His best man Miles Appleton is already in residence when Betty and her rescue Shetland pony Pumpkin arrive. Miles is a neat freak and totally opposite to Betty's character. She ends up finding possibilities that she never knew she had the strength to go after.

I had really high hopes for this book based off of the description, unfortunately it wasn't quite to the mark.
Betty (or one of the many many nicknames Miles calls her throughout the book), is staying at her sister's cottage with her pony. Miles also happens to be staying at this cottage, as he's friends with Betty's brother-in-law. They have a history from that wedding.
There is a lot of telling that happens, like when Betty is wearing outfits over outfits. Yes, she's unique and there is absolutely nothing wrong with this, but it became a lot.
There is a little catch-all kind of shop that she opens. It has all sorts of things setup, this doesn't happen until about halfway through the book. It hasn't really been called a cafe either.

I also didn't really feel a connection with the characters. With myself to relate or between them.

The Cosy Croissant Café by Jane Linfoot

Rating: 3.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Thank you to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, Netgalley, and the author for access to this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This was such an entertaining, fun read that has absolutely impeccable spring/summer vibes!

Due to unforeseen events, Betty, the FMC, has to be around Miles, the MMC, best friend to her brother-in-law, and she is instantly reminded of everything she dislikes about the pastry chef along how annoyingly gorgeous he is. Boathouse Cottage was supposed to be a safe place for Betty and her rescue Shetland Pony, Pumpkin, but now as her sister's marriage falls apart and the family cottage needs to be protected, Betty and Miles battle for it. However, Betty soon realizes that working with Miles may be more beneficial in the long run than fighting against him.

Overall, this was a sweet, entertaining, and cozy read! Perfect for anyone looking to read a fast paced, lighthearted romance.

I received a free copy of The Cosy Croissant Café from One More Chapter and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Unfortunately, this one didn’t work for me. While the title promises a warm, café-centered romance, the story is something else entirely—and not in a good way. The plot felt scattered and underdeveloped, with moments of confusion that made it hard to stay engaged. Betty and Miles lacked chemistry, and their conversations felt stiff, repetitive, and lacking in depth. I couldn’t connect with Betty, whose quirky, innocent charm read more immature and aimless than endearing. Her past trauma is mentioned but never properly addressed, which felt like a missed opportunity for character development.

The editing also left much to be desired. Phrases like “he pulls a face” were so overused it became distracting, and the inconsistent punctuation made it harder to immerse myself in the narrative. I really wanted to like this book, but it ultimately fell flat for me.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

This was a bit of a mixed read for me.

It was slow going to match the slow burn and I couldn't figure out why it was so hard to get into. Maybe the style just isn't for me.

The story is kinda nice, we have Elizabeth and Miles meet in the Boathouse Cottage and then proceed to tiptoe round each other or annoy the living daylights out of one another. I think more petty behaviour from one or both of them might have elevated this story a bit further.

I loved the sweet treats and the pony aspect. The slow burn was too slow to then go from 0 to 100 and back again. I think the conflict resolution happened far too quickly in both Tate/Scarlett and Miles/Beth. We need more of the longing and the drama.

The title of this book also grinds my gears. Croissants literally features maybe once. They don't even have a cafe?? It should be called The Boathouse Bun shop or something.

It was a nice read but I think needs some work.

It is always good to be back in St Aidan and amongst some familiar faces.

But this can definitely be read as a standalone novel, as Betty, her pony Pumpkin and Miles are all brand new characters.

And thanks to some miscommunication Betty and Miles end up living in the same house temporarily, and given Betty doesn't like him, and is off men generally, this means sparks will fly.

For I loved how different they both are, and although I grew to totally adore Miles, it was Betty who stole my heart first - ok really it was the pony!

But wow that boy can bake, his beach house buns sounded delicious. Between that, his business acumen and Betty's impulsiveness they are in for a wild summer.

There is a lot going on this book and I was loving every single second of it. Another fabulous trip to St Aidan's and I can't wait to return again in the future.

Thank you to One More Chapter and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

The cosy croissant cafe is such a lovely summery read , based in the most gorgeous picturesque Cornwall right on the coast, full of beaches, seaside cottages, and summery vibes!
A read full of family dynamics, friendship, romance and the most adorable pets pumpkin the pony and fudge the dog, not to mention the sumptuous, delicious, flaky bakes that you could almost taste from the descriptions.
I was so fully invested in Miles and Bettys on off relationship and where it was heading as they co existed in Boathouse cottage attempting to keep it as sparse and spotless as the owners Scarlett and Tate, not an easy task with a dog, pony and endless baking!
Would love to read a sequel to this book
Thank you NetGalley for this early read
